- A quick fun installation of a floating granite shelf using some Brunswick Brackets and backer board. Federal Brace VP of sales, DJ Toal, and Allen Burge take you through the steps using brunswick brackets and backer boards.
This is an excellent illustration of a common granite countertop support application with the important areas to consider when doing a granite countertop extension with support brackets. The Federal Brace countertop support brackets used in this installation are the popular Brunswick Designer Countertop Supports with the curved gusset.

Glad I saw this before I started
Those hitatchi drills are quite impressive! we have them in our traction/electrical cells at work.
Those hitatchi drills are quite impressive! we have them in our traction/electrical cells at work. Plus (im not saying im right) I would have filled the gap in the wood and filled the screws to cover them.
Good work guy's!
exactly same sort of thing happened to me once, when the amount of load made the brackets loose :) . i will try this backer board technique now.
Please provide dimensions (particularly the thickness) and recommended type of the backer board?
I watched while talking a shit great job!
thanks . and that was a prompt reply :)
i am new to woodworking. why did they install a backer wooden board on the wall first. why didn t they use the brackets direct on the wall ??? will any one explain that ???
Please add in the length and diameter of both your wood screws you placed into the back board and stud.
As well as the lag screws you used that only went from the bracket to the back board and did not go into the stud.
Otherwise a really neat and informational video!
What is the purpose of the board? Cant u just drill directly into the wall?
A floating shelf does not have brackets
Floating shelves don’t have brackets that you can see that’s why they are called floating shelves. Change your subject line
