Eventing is usually considered the most complete combined competition discipline and demands of the competitor and horse considerable experience in all branches of equitation. It covers every aspect of horsemanship: the harmony between horse and rider that characterise Dressage; the contact with nature, stamina and extensive experience essential for the Cross Country; the precision, agility and technique involved in Jumping.
At the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games, it was the home team who showed the best combinations of those skills to win the Team Eventing gold medal for the United States, with Joseph Fargis (riding Touch of Class), Conrad Homfeld (Abdullah), Leslie Howard (Albany) and Melanie Smith (Calypso).

I have heard that the Los Angeles Olympics 1984 were like none other. Barb Hughes told me that being in the Coliseum watching the Track and Field was tremendous. There we pin exchanges. I've never experienced an Olympic Games but I would like to experience Los Angeles now through us getting the vote in 2017 and then further getting LA ready.

anyone know how i could get the whole 1984 olympic eventing competition on dvd? It was the first olympics i remember watching eventing and it really got me interested in the sport as a kid. i'd love it if there was a way to watch the whole thing. i remember the cross country course was beautiful.

This course must have had to be ridden very carefully as landing in water on the other side startles horses. Horses also do not take well to quick changes of light as their eyes don't adjust. Just sayin'!!!
