Not to nit pick, please I'm just adding my 2 cents, so-to-speak. You guys make great videos, I have learned so much from this guy. However, I am electrician, by trade and while most of the work is different, a lot crosses over, especially on the industrial side of things. If you didn't need that much length, on the positive cable, I would have cut it, and put a new circle connector, on the end of it, and possibly taped a little bit on the end. You could've wired brush it off. The problem with the shrink wrap, and tape IMO, is it make the wire very rigid. And it usually needs to bend, at least a little, I also, would have put some electrulux, under that eye fitting on the end of the wire. As the wire is copper, and the connector is steel, or aluminum, I will give you mad respect, for using that abrasive wheel, to clean the bare metal down to shiny. But great job altogether, and great video as always.
I had the starter replaced and it just spools but doesn't engage the flywheel I'm thinking bad starter out the box is that possible?? Thanks for any input
@@kevijrmusic5715 It is difficult and I had to use a cheater bar, but I did it. First time I changed anything that wasn't an air filter or windshield wiper for my vehicle as well... The ants had a little mini meal of my arms as well.
Im replacing the starter on my 2002 dakota sport 3.9 now someone else took it off we dont know what to do about the large hole if there is a spacer that goes in place to keep it from sliding now on yours I see your r the same as mine is the large mounting hole for ajusting it to the fly wheel
you can buy them anywhere lighters are sold usually Walmart even has them in their section from $7-$18 bucks for a decent 1, I tried a cheapy, b/c I only needed it once, well it wouldn't even start, so I just bought the $17, it will last me forever as little as I use it. They last a while also unless you have heavy use.
I'm in the middle of switching my starter now and it's not cranking over at all. It just spins but won't turn the motor over. I think the new one is bad but I put the old one back on and it's doing the same thing
Why does my starter bendix spin and not make contact with the flywheel? Flywheel has all the teeth and so does the starter. It sounds like a drill no grinding just it spinning it on my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 magnum
On the 1998 RAM 1500 with the 5.9L v8 that I'm driving here in Alaska: The starter bolt (on top) is 16mm, the bottom nut (uses fine-thread stud there so the starter won't fall on your head during a starter swap like older RAMs) is a 17mm nut, main electrical lead nut to starter post is 13mm and smaller solenoid stud uses an 8mm nut + negative battery terminal is 13mm nut on the post.

You are excellent short to the point

Calm down Hollywood. You make it look too easy. We all don't have lifts. You should mention the awkward location of the top bolt.
Use an extension you'll be fine
@@bigemarin9271 right lol and you can see him using the extension
@@erickessler6709 even with the extension its difficult if youre laying down, genius.

Easy with electric ratchet
Does that smaller wire hook up to the negative terminal?
I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 and I'm trying to find that starter pigtail and I'm having no luck so any help would be great
Okay what is a trigger wire for on a starter is that to help it will that have anything to do with it not engaging
Does the 5.2 engine take the same stater.
+r nowak This starter is listed to fit 5.2L engines. Thanks for watching.
Does this work for a 2004 ram 1500
Haha I bought one of those little gas station torch lighters just like the one you used, for the same reason. Just sits in my electrical box.
You should have tested the starter before securing it in place. It would also have been nice to see the starter work after install.
What are those wires called together because I need to get those
Is this the same thing for a 97 12valve?

I wanted to know do I have to take the driver Tire off to get to the top bolt of the starter?
Did you end up taking the tire off to get it? I’m having trouble feeling any bolt up top
Anybody having trouble with the top bolt? For the life of me I can't break it loose
Thanks
I lock bottom nut always, That will happen to a good starter, If someone over tighten the nuts.
Is it the same for a 2004?
Do you sell the tool/heater for the heat shrink tubing?
+Sid Johnson At this time we do not sell this tool but you may be able to locate it through eBay motors.
Our Dollarrama sells them at the counter for 3 bucks in Ontario Canada. Hope this helps

Does the starter need to be shimmed
Man am I glad your top bolt isn't completely fucking blocked by shitty engineering.

Could be ignition.
You have to make sure the start is making contact with the fly wheel
I need one

Sounds like your bendix is messed up in the starter and not pushing the gear out. Time for a new one!
I clicked the link for the starter and it only shows it's for dodge ram 1500 up to 1998
They used to have a list of necessary tools, what happened 1A?
Hey friend! They're there now! Sorry for the wait!
Wow that's awesome, thanks 1A this is why your videos rule
@@1AAuto Thank you, for the video and list of tools. @slant6guy should have read your comment rather than the video description thanks.
your extension link is not the right one
as you can tell, this bolt is broken, you can tell by the way that it is.
