This is a great video because rhymes so much with my own experience. I am traumatized by running. After running, my feet always felt swollen as if i had been slapping the floor continuously, they always cramped up, and my calves always felt so stiff and achy. Turns out my feet are wide and have a collapsed arch which made my running form horrible. I was also taught to run on my heels, my first language is Spanish, so when i was told to run on the 'balls of my feet' i thought i was doing exactly that because i interpreted 'ball' to mean 'heel'. Not to mention my shoes were not helping at all. Only now that I am working a decent job do i have the insurance and money to fix these problems. Currently working on fixing my brain, specifically, the association of running with pain. One step at a time! Thank you coach!
@juanmejiagomez5514 I use a heavy rope. Intensity can differ! I think the best for boxing would be on-off high to low intensity. 2 min intense 1 min rest and repeat.
Thanks coach = 100%. Been having trouble with me back on left side. Can get a bit of relief when I switch to southpaw for a round or two. But what was really missing is that I haven't kept up with the running and or any type of symmetric reps. Thanks for this great video and reminder that it's the hard things that make us better. Cheers!!!
As a reluctant runner myself, I can't agree more! Thanks for giving me more fuel for the fire... PS: Would love to see a breakdown on Tabatas, thats a new one on me.
@vershunsublet1846 i appreciate you participating in the community! The pirog video is on a long list of video ideas we have yet to make, but we will eventually get to them all
F'n brilliant video. I hate running more than most but damn if it isn't the key to good boxing. More coaches should break down these reasons for running rather than just yelling "run!" all the time 😂. The symmetry and mental toughness reps are gems. Bums who skip this game right here are gonna remain bums.
Awesome video coach! Lots of great info. I got some altra runners too, been using barefoot shoes for running and everyday use for years. Highly recommend them. Just do shorter runs at first if you've never used them, especially if you aren't used to running midfoot. I've sparred in them a few times, but prefer boots for the ankle support. The high tops have saved me from rolling my ankle a few times 😅
@@BTboxing only includes muscle fatigue for the movements you train while being aerobic. So the LISS runs are good for the legs, the tabatas really help with the upper body
Great question, we havent put it up on oir Ko-Fi yet, the end of the video has a sample program however. I'll make sure Coach responds to you as soon as we get it on our Ko-Fi! Thanks for your interest!
Hey coach, I grew up in Florida and I’m wondering how do you adjust to running in the winter? Is there a specific style of running shoe you recommend to reduce the risk of slipping on ice? I like the idea of a minimalist shoe but I worry about losing grip and seeing stars.
l❤ running. I run EVERY SINGLE DAY, whether it's a hot, sunny summer day or a cold winter month. This is simply because there are tons of benefits in running, not just for combat sports. Besides, Road work is fundamental conditioning in boxing. If you don't run, you're missing out on one of the most important tools in boxing.
So, you are giving me green light to kinda warm up with 30min type II Cardio running next to my early morning conditioing and my afternoon boxing? I am sorry if it's to much, I am just wondering if I wouldn't break. It feels unsafe. But maybe I could push me further. I am uncertain. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland ❤
yes, like i said in the video: build to 30 min every other day, then build to 30 min a day, then introduce high intensity work, dont run on days with very important technical work. it all takes time.
I think every human should run. It should be a cultural expectation like brushing your teeth. Humans are naturally supposed to walk and run a LOT. We are actually genetically the species with the most endurance of any species. Yet today even a dog could could run longer than the average American. And they have relatively shitty endurance and cant even sweat.
@@Blkwlf89 1.) If you watched the video you know Coach isnt advocating for long distance running. 3-4 miles isnt long distance. 2.) Fighters dont believe in a lot of things. Thats why they have Coaches and professionals who know more than they do. 3.) So, Muhammed Ali, Tyson, Frazier and about a billion other greats, past and present agree with running for boxing. Whats your point? Also, from Crawfords team: " “It’s very scientific, like his running, it all depends on where he is at in his recovery. If I feel like his legs are trashed, he’s sore and not feeling it, we’ll run three or four miles nice and light. But the days he’s feeling good or we need a big push, we’ll do a lot of sprint work, some intervals, running up hills. We split up the days, so one day we’ll do long distance, the next day sprints, the next day hills, and then reverse back into that.”
@@bambaraboxing It has nothing to do with believe bro, It's ok tool for weight managment if you need to shed fat fast but you won't outrun bad diet anyway. Sprints or intervals, mby one slow recovery run a week, but not every day or everyother day
@@kurylko8493its not about the purely physical consequences of long distance running, there are more effective ways to achieve each of the 3 facets individually of low intensentiy long distance running…. emphasis on individually. Running does all 3 at once, in addition to that you seem to be missing arguably the most important part of long distance running - what it does for the mind. Use more of that.
@valentinoboxing it did take a while to adjust. Gotta ease into them. I prefer the model with the cinch strap (prio I beleive) they stay tight to my ankles and my heel doesn't slip out.
