It’s too bad Ventura isn’t powerful enough to handle a feature as advanced as a search bar. Guess I’ll have to update my os as well as finally actually install logic 11 because until today, there has not a single thing that has made me want to update.
Main reason after using it for 2 years the only plugin I’ve purchased is the Korg Wavestation vst 😂 getting the m1 for Black Friday, and then I’m good for another 2 years! 😂🎉

Can update that it works flawlessly! Just find out the shortest amount of letters to highlight the plugin you want (ch was enough for channel eq in my case) and insert a multiaction button in stream deck, didn't even need a delay between. Adds and opens it straight away, super handy!
Holy guacamole, I’ve been requesting for search, moving tracks in the mixer and the BIP options at Apple’s Feedback page for literally years now. I was on the verge of moving to Pro Tools solely because of those three features. Glad I can stay in Logic!
I’ve mixed with the real Quantec’s a lot. It was a crazy expensive unit. We mainly used it for its insanely long reverbs, that a Lexicon 480 wasn’t capable of. The interface was very basic though. The Logic Interface looks like a lot of fun!

Amazing video as always. I think I'm going to love the search feature when I upgrade; I tend to get lost while looking for a plugin haha. Thank you for the explanation
"Finally, the new Logic Pro update includes a plugin search function when adding them to a track! I had been waiting for this for so long, and it was frustrating that Apple didn’t include it while other DAWs like Cubase, Studio One, and FL Studio already had it. Now I’m hoping they’ll also work on improving compatibility with Melodyne's ARA system, which would be a huge improvement. Thanks, Apple, for starting to listen to users, but there’s still work to be done!"
'Quality of life' feature... I'm stealing that. Thanks for the run-through of what's new in 11.1. Hurray to finally being able to move channel strips around in the mixer. What took so long?!
The search feature was THE thing I had been waiting for. Especially when Pro Tools and Ableton have been allowing this for years....The Region Bounce is freaking amazing! This is super helpful. I've always wanted this one too but the search was more important.
I honestly never stressed too much about not being able to move tracks in the mixer. The Plugin Search thing is helpful, never really needed that one much either since I have all my plugins organized into folders already. I'll be happy to not ever hear people complain about not having Plugin Search ever again. Great update all around!
@@maxmaxxammax3011 I would say the last major thing Logic needs is the ability to use Logic's MIDI FX plugins on audio tracks, i.e. the ability to freely route MIDI in and out between audio tracks and not just MIDI tracks which is how it works right now. Also, not a huge deal but it would be great to have a similar feature to Ableton's Effects Racks. Much more elegant compared to Logic's bus routing system. There are third party plugins that already do this, like the free Waves StudioRack or Blue Cat Audio's PatchWork (not free), there are other paid options out there as well. It would be nice to have but again, not a huge deal. Very happy with Logic, you simply can't complain much since all the updates are FREE
It depends on how many plugins you use and how many plugins you have. If you don’t have many tracks and don’t use a lot of plugins, sure, it’s not that bad. But some people have hundreds of tracks with hundreds of plugins within the project and have to dig through menus to try to find each one. Either way, it’s just such a basic feature to not have. Same with moving tracks around, particularly the aux tracks. You used to have no control over where it went and had to make it an audio track on the timeline for no reason in order to move it.
Hey, thanks a lot. The only feature I hadn't found is the Buffer resizing feature in the controls bar. Great video, man! Greetings from Hamburg, Germany.
Finaly! after almost a decade of requesting, a search plugin function and the possiblity to move the mixer tracks. Well, in my opinion the mixer track moving is not perfect as it creates tracks in the main window, I would have liked to have 2 separated moving features (personnaly I don't like to have a bunch of bus tracks in my main track window, I just need to see my instruments). Accessing to the buffer size thru the LCD instead of digging into the audio settings is a welcome addition. Fun effect with QRS: in Freeze put CC to the Add parameter (with the Modifier MIDI plugin), for instance CC64, each time you press the pedal you add to the freeze. With an other switching pedal you can clear.
Thanks @MusicTechHelpGuy - the new features are great, especially plugin search & mixer channel re-ordering! I think I might have found a bug in the Sampler instrument however, which may or may not have been introduced by the Logic Pro update. If you try out some Sampler presets in the "08 Guitars" section, like "Acoustic Guitar", the sound is monophonic and not polyphonic despite the Mode being Poly in the SYNTH Details display. Switching the Mode to Mono and back to Poly has no effect - it's still Mono :-( I wonder if you've noticed this?
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Very interesting! I've done some more digging and have discovered that the Sampler patch plays polyphonically if, and only if, you change the Logic MIDI output in the track to 1 instead of All. As soon as it is set to All, the patch plays monophonically. It's the strangest thing I've seen. If I record the performance from the keyboard, the MIDI events show that all notes are on channel 11. I'll try importing a polyphonic MIDI track next to see what happens.... ....anyway, this appears to be a really strange bug.
I own a Quantec Yardstick 2496 and it is the most Unique reverb every made and nothing like the lexicon/yamaha/impulse based reverbs I took out a loan to get it in like 2010 it was $4500 and I had to wait about 4 months before it arrived I had it half paid off when I got it! It still works but having it in plugin form is NUTS. I need to download Logic tonight before I leave the studio so I can come in early tomorrow and test it out!
@@harfenspieler Its really good. The only big difference I noticed is if your session is at 96K its spot on but at 44,1 & 48K its a still good but is missing its sparkle you get from the hardware. I first set up the 2 to compare them so I had to wing it an set them up manually to be the same. The plugin is exactly like the hardware, apparently Apple bought the rights to Quantec for this reverb and its a 1 to 1 copy of the code and its a nice plugin. I had tried the Savant audio (yardstick) plugin and it was close but lacked that width from first reflections that the hardware has. But the Logic plugin is so much faster to dial in a nice quick room sound compared to the hardware which was slow and involved. But Yes Apple's plugin is the real deal.
Reordering tracks from the mixer is a big one for me. The biggest one would be - do something about the pan/balance knob. If there is ONE single thing that causes me to swear all the time in Logic, it's trying to use stereo panning and finding myself struggling to put my pointer just in the right position.
Solid update. Really wish they would add some type of key detector to the quick sampler and non destructive chops or save/mark chops in the quick sampler.
Thank you Josh! As usual...this is an amazing insight into the new features in Logic Pro 11.1. How do i upgrade / update to sonoma? I don't want to get into the sequoia territory yet. I am running Ventura. pls advice. Thanks in advance.
I don't see anything in the documentation about the Quantec being only for Apple Silicon. But I'm not 100% sure. I don't have an Intel Mac anymore to try it out on. Maybe someone else can chime in?
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Hey Josh thanks for your reply.... It doesn't apparently... It's disappointing to be fair Josh... My iMac is 5 years old and because of that Intel owners don`t get the update or the extra components... Be great if some of you guys could also point these things out as a callout to Apple... You should not be expected to purchase a new Computer every 5 years? Hey... I love your videos... Nothing negative via yourself... I just feel very let down by Apple 😞
@@DirkParker The possibility to see in Piano Roll notes played by other tracks. For example, you enter the region of track C, open Piano Roll, and you see gently highlighted notes that are playing at the same time on tracks A and B

Adding the option to Share to Voice Memos is giving me hope of Music Memos being resurrected. When it was discontinued, I for sure thought it was going to be integrated in Voice Memos. Apparently not… 😔
wooooooooooow moving tracks on the freaking mixer! SEARCH? holy cow!! how awesome. Yesterday I was using Digital Performer which is suuuuper powerful BUT kinda ugly and clumsy for some things. You cannot do plugin insertions to multiple tracks at the same time as in Logic, BUT you can drag the order of the tracks on the mixer and I was doing exactly that while thinking "freking Logic" LOL
Unfortunately I’m not on Sonoma and I’m too worry to upgrade and have some audio or video tools that wouldn’t work anymore. So I guess I will wait before to update Logic :/
I really hope they also unlock the overdub feature in the voice memo app that is currently iPhone 16 Pro exclusive. I mean that's the point here right. You build an instrumental in Logic, push straight to the voice memo app and when inspiration comes, you quickly record something over it.
11.1 seems tempting to update😅. I am on ventura like you… have an m1 pro chip macbook. Is sonoma safe to update? Majorly use waves,ni,spectrasonics, fabfilter, output & soundtoys instruments & plugins.
Thanks for this excellent video. a question: it's possible to move channel strips in the mixer window? I have try on the mixer under the work area (tracks area) in the main project window. But it doesn't work in the Mixer window.
Don’t know if my iMac can upgrade to Sonoma but love the tune you featured. It would be cool if you showed us how you put it together. Sounds great thru airpods🎉 👏

Always so insightful and helpful.... Is quantum only on the new Silicon chips? Nothing on Intel Josh?
Finally, plugin search :). My next request is dynamic EQ, ghost notes.
What do you mean by ghost notes in this case? Dynamic eq is high on my list too!
@@DirkParker The possibility to see in Piano Roll notes played by other tracks. For example, you enter the region of track C, open Piano Roll, and you see gently highlighted notes that are playing at the same time on tracks A and B
@ whoah. I’ve never heard of that. What is it useful for?
@@DirkParker Some other DAWs have this.
Just to have a visual reference what other instruments are playing.
@@put-kbabyface800 if you highlight the midi regions you’d like to see at the same time and press E it will show you which notes other instruments are playing (if they are already midi data) and they will be separated by different colours. Not sure if this is what you mean, good to know though!
11:04 omg...there is a search function! I've been dreaming of this!!
Congratulations on your website, and thank you for your helpful videos 🫡
Fantastic update 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Great review, as always
Love Josh!
Thanks,
Gianni❤
Great presentation, thanks.
Quantec sounds killer.
Quantec = Dream come true
It would be cool if you showed us how you put
it together. Sounds great thru airpods🎉 👏
I really need midi scale highlight and midi note colorized by chord in piano roll editor, it's available in other DAWs.
wooohooo yay for LOGIC
HEY WANT TO ASK THAT IF I SOFTWARE UPDATE MY MAC, WILL I LOOSE MY PLUGINS??😅
Normally you won’t. But as Apple recommends, make sure to zip your old Logic for a backup.
@@pop_polizei oh ok!
Might you do a video on adding Apple Loops to chord tracks and keeping them in the correct key ? Thx in advance.
Thank U for your Quick go thru !
