thanks for the video man. back in ~2000 I bought couple of LCs and a IIci. I used the LCs a bit but forgot the IIci under a stack of Sun and SGI machines. before watching this video I was pretty sure I'd gone through everything for batteries but watching realized that I don't remember ever doing that disassembly. digging out the machine was a bit of a rollercoaster, and the battery was in there 🙀 but.. it looked okish? then turning it to light I saw a circular clearing around it in the fine layer of dust, oh no. took the board out for cleaning and noticed another circular pattern in the dust and another .. it was the SMD caps not the battery! through-hole caps were fine but each and every SMD cap had lost it. happy it wasn't the battery, the cap damage doesn't look too bad I think I can get it going again.

I remember going into computer stores in the Kearney Mesa area of San Diego and just drooling over Macs, even PC's, as I was still rather new to computing back then, and was using a Commodore 64 to access BBSes. I remember subscribing to MacUser magazine, and just drooling over machines like the Quadra 900 and 950. I longed to work with System 7, and held John C. Dvorak in very high regard, and religiously read his columns in MacUser. In fact, my desire was so strong it continues to this day, I even would drool over the Mac Classics with their *incredibly" high res paperwhite displays.I still, to this day, desire one, and was mortified to learn that Apple sold it's soul and abandoned motorola and SCSI for Intel and IDE.The desire was so strong it continues to this day. I held Mac users in very high regard.Hell, I'd settle for a Mac Classic...if those things are still around.

The Ci was a great machine, installed many of them. Used one for a time as my home computer, great for games.

Of course you have the Macintosh 24AC display card in that thing. Rare as hens teeth right there. Finally just got my hands on a 8 24GC card after 2 years of looking.

My IIci has identical parts as yours with one exception. Mine has a DayStar Turbo 040 Processor Upgrade card instead of the cache card. I still have the original cache card as well. I have owned this since I purchased it new, and it has a 230MB Apple branded HD. I don't remember ever replacing the drive after purchasing, but my old mind is sometimes wrong I have to admit.

Fantastic video! This helped me take apart a IIci I just picked up. Wanted to get at the floppy drive and clean it out. Also decided to find a cache card to throw in there thanks to what you had to say about that in here.

This was, indeed, helpful. Power supply came apart extremely easily. Checked, cleaned+reinstalled. Applied 3.6 volts to battery area and the power supply came right up. Next on my list: the motherboard #caps

I think apple put the ROM simm there in case they discoved a serious problem with the onboard rom after production had already began. Then they could fix the problem and make the computer use the rom simm instead.

I've been trying to find a replacement screw for the drive carrier - the phillips screw that holds down the plastic drive carrier. It is an odd little screw. It is not #6/32 or #6/40. It doesn't seem to be M3. I can't figure out what it is. If you know, I'd sure appreciate the info. Thank you.

Nice presentation, Jason. And what a nice machine that is. Incredible how it can be disassembled so easily. BTW, a VIA is a "versatile interface adapter". See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS_Technology_6522

What were these comps used for? As in, who was buying these mac's when they were new. Seems like they would be somewhat expensive at the time.

During the late 80s and early 90s older Macs were mainly aimed towards publishing houses, musicians and larger businesses among other similar fields. In fact this very model was used to develop Sonic CD!

They were $7000. Graphic-artists and programmers. This machine was the bomb. I learned how to program macs on one.

The Logic board said rom dips above the rom chips instead of rom chips. LOL!!!
