I bought a Mac Plus off Ebay about a year ago. Amazingly, it had the original Energizer clock battery, with the old vertical copper stripes, still installed. Even more amazingly, it hadn't leaked.
The very first time I operated an OS besides DOS. It was such a pleasure. I was blown away by the graphics. It was so easy to operate.
Superb and thorough overview of the Plus. Just what I needed. Thanks!
wait this isnt vaporwave
after many years of not owning a compact mac, I got a Mac Plus last year (the last time I used one prior to that was in my elementary school computer lab!)
definitely a really special little machine, I upgraded mine to 4MB RAM and bought a BMOW Floppy Emu for it
I must say its great to see such a well done video of old apple computers. Very deep and detailed information. Good video quality. And A full demonstration of hardware and software. I am enjoying every second of this. I been a collector of old apple computers but I am not anymore. But Its a part of me who always will have a weak spot for this computers. Thank you so much for doing this videos and doing them so well. Its appriciated. Looking forward to see all those other systems and stuff you have . Again. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the feedback! I am pleased that there are others out there who appreciate these old computers!
As I mentioned in my Introduction video, I have many more Macintosh models to show, so stay tuned!
Excellent video. I have one of these that was given to me as a gift last year. I use it for typing documents because I was also given an Imagewriter with it!
Mrjbroo11 It's amazing how such an old machine can still be useful for simple tasks!

Thank you to educate us as new generation in computer world. Cheers 👍😀
The chip that you don't know what it is is the Zilog SCC(8530).
this is a serial communications chip from Zilog. hence the 'z' in the name. the 8030 is optimized for a nonmultiplexed bus and the 8530 is optimized for a multiplexed bus. There are two serial channels on the chip, channel A and B. I would guess that one channel was used for the modem and the other used for the printer. Zilog had many of their chips outsourced to other companies for reasons such as being either cheaper, more reliable, or special specifications such as in military/industry. In this case AMD. (probably cheaper).
Nice video. I appreciate that you film the CRT monitor correctly. And it looks great without all the flickering you'll see in many other videos.
I'd be interested in a video of the Macintosh II, if you have one!
Thankfully, the camera that I use has the ability to manually adjust the frame rate - but I have found that filming the Macintosh Colour Display with a refresh rate of 67Hz does result in a small amount of flicker. If you watch my videos on the Power Mac 6100, you will see what I mean.
As for the Mac II - watch this space...!
Love your intro
I really love Apple's OS fonts!
I am buying one of these
Great video.
Thank you for sharing.
I never got to play the original MS Flight Simulator. The first I got my hands on was MS Flight Simulator 2. On the Atari ST. Great memories. I admit I mostly played the WW1 scenario. :)
awesome video, crazy how they can work like that being that old. very cool. love the video!:)
emmy4224 Thanks! However, old electronics of any kind (not just old computers) often need a lot of work to continue working when they get to this age!
@Alejandro Ayes Pippin (and it had a limited US release)
Love your detailed videos. They have helped me enjoy my vintage Macs. I have recently acquired a Macintosh plus with a LaCie Cirrus external hard drive. I have't found any information about the hard drive other than it was LaCie's first one to win an industrial design award. Would you be able to provide any other information? Thank you!
Great video. Subscribed. I love that you know what you're talking about and go into detail on a lot of stuff.
***** Thanks! I will be doing a video on each and every one of my Macs, so there will be plenty more videos to come!
Jason's Macintosh Museum love your vids, hope to see more if you upload new ones ;)
Jason's Macintosh Museum do you have an Apple IIc there is something about that particular model I love the look of, it's not particularly powerful but I think I would enjoy doing basic stuff on it
nice vid
The best one
Hey i just bought one of these and i was wondering how i can get a boot disk for it. do i basically just put the os on a floppy and insert it into the drive?
We had an old beige Mac, not sure which one. When you stuck in the boot disc, instead of a chirping sound, it used to make this creepy groaning noise in different pitches, like it was trying to sing.
My dad has a Macintosh plus in his garage
millionair!
Thats cool
Can i have it lol
@@frankwankerl7021 fight me for it
@Kevin De Bondt Not if I get it first
Thanks for the comprehensive video. Can voltage of power supply be changed between 110 and 220v via jumper?
The Macintosh Plus actually shipped with System 3.0.
The good old days...
You said it was platinum not beige and I was pretty dubious, but with the old keyboard, you can definitely see the difference.
Cool

Thanks for the great video. This takes me back to the days of 7th grade computer science class, when I first used the Macintosh Plus. I love how back in the day, the OS was so minimal that you could start everything from a 400 kB floppy, and boot time was still under 10 seconds! I'm just curious how the logic board has connectors only for the power supply and floppy drive. Where is the video RAM and GPU? How is it output to the CRT?
Sorry for the late reply.
The Mac Plus has no dedicated VRAM as such (we're dealing with only black and white, 1 bit here) and no GPU, all the graphics are handled by the 68000 CPU and displayed via the analogue board to the CRT.
i actually remember playing the Microsoft Flight Simulator...gawwd i'm dirt!! LOL
I got my Mini vMac emulator running on Macintosh Plus and System 7.0.1. I got my 512 MB of disk.
What happens if you put in a floppy disk without the boot disk? Do you need a boot disk?
I plan on getting one off of Ebay
Dewayne Boone did you find one?
Its a 5V voltage reference
SO glad I found this channel! I guess I must have an earlier Plus with the plastic switches on the side and the darker color (tho I might need retr0brighting.. I'm not sure). I'm having the ticking noise from my machine, but all I have is the computer itself. I'll need to source some disks and a mouse/keyboard setup. My CRT seems to be fine, but when adjusting the brightness it seems the lower half of the dial just gives me a blank image. For example: 15%- nothing, 25%- nothing, 50% - nothing, 75%- half brightness, 100%- full. Also the image seems to "shift". Almost as if its trying to stay focused, but it like to jutter back and forth ever so slightly. About 1 pixel or so.. back and forth. Anyone have any tips?
Hello , this computer can be connected to an external screen ? How can I do it ? Thanks , I like your channel
A quick question on the computer case itself: is that the original color, or has it yelllowed somewhat with age?
Hello Jason! I have quite the important question for you, the only apple computer i own is a Macintosh plus with no boot disk. I would like to know if it is possible to create a boot disk with a PC or any other way of booting it without the Boot disk, Please help!
You might have fixed this by now but i know that you can write disks with a newer Macintosh.

Dark Brown? Thanks for the vid
Does it support high density?
How would you value a Macintosh Plus on the used market? I have several Plus and SE I plan to sell. I see a lot of listings on eBay for $100+, but my suspicion is that the computers are not really worth that much. All of mine work, but I plan to recap them before selling. Are people willing to pay much more for new capacitors?
I think you may be mistaken Jason - you state that yours is a Platinum model of Mac Plus, however i believe it may be a 1986 Beige model. Your label doesn't state a date and it contains the "1mb" in the title. The Plus from 1987 on states the date and in 1988 they dropped the "1mb" from the title on the back.
Can you please help me?
I have this computer, I need to know if it can run Far Cry 4 and Skyrim.
Also, does it blend?
Its from 1980s
Fox I don't think so - with only 4MB of RAM!It will probably blend - but I don't want to sacrifice my Plus to find out!!
Fox I ran GTA 5 on the macintosh 128k and it ran on it better than the xbox one.
Kevin Gutierrez I took a shit and it was better than the xbox one
someguy12999 I like the xboxone, i just took a really good shit
you didnt explain the R8 resistor being cut.
Does the lack of a heating fan cause problems?
ThatGamingShow no. The Mac plus did not have any high voltage electronics besides the CRT. Also, non of the chips where as powerful as there counterparts in say IBMs
Where is your residence Jason? I know that you are in Australia. (ex: Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, etc.)
I wonder what people can do with this computer in 1986? Can this computer help some people's work? What kind of work is that?
Homework, anything that needs writing, book-keeping, etc. Financial stuff, games, music writing, etc
calculations
muhammad ghufron , l was 10 years old then, l used it at school to type up my essay, and to learn maths and play games.
Where do I get a boot disk? I have this whole computer setup working but no disk!
Have you tried looking on eBay or Amazon?
Earlier I posted a comment, this sort of an update.
I have lost all my system boot disks, and I have no idea where to get new ones as I live in the middle of nowhere. Any ideas of a site that sells them?
Also some color ribbons for an Imagewriter II would also be nice
Mrjbroo11 I believe that you can download old versions of the MacOS (up to version 7) from Apple's own web site.
Would there be a way to write those images to a 800k floppy? Everywhere I've read says that it is impossible with modern floppy drives. I would love to get a SCSI Zip Disk drive, since I have a Plus, and use that as a hard disk. Only problem is I have no way to get the software on the mac to format the disks
Jason's Macintosh Museum Not anymore, I'm afraid... The old URLs appear to be defunct, at least.
It sucks these things have the stupid "phone cord" rather than ADB and were never updated to have ADB, because getting a keyboard for one of these that doesn't have one is a nightmare.
i wanted to see how you booted it up from a zip drive
It is kinda weird that the main startup device has less storage than the RAM chips.
My dad's one almost caught on fire, how do I prevent this?
Only use it outdoors in winter.
My cousins used to have this when I was little 😱
So is the Macintosh SE the plus just with a extra floppy drive?
Think it was optimised a bit more for performance and had an internal expansion slot. The SE stands for System Expansion.
Or something. This was all a long time ago!
It also could have a hard drive and expansion
Kinda, it was optimised so that most of the calculating / processing abilities of the machine were held on a single chip on the SE as opposed to several different chips on the board.
The SE also used the ADB standard of Mouse and Keyboard (the first to do so).
The SE was also the first Mac to be released with a 1.44Mb floppy drive and built-in Hard Drive, neither of which came with the Plus.
The SE was the first Compact Mac to release with a built-in cooling fan, which eliminated or at least mitigated the heating issues seen with the Plus.
The SE's SCSI bus was faster and allowed for termination, meaning that the peripheral you plugged into the SE didn't require any sort of external power, a luxury the Plus didn't have.
The SE (as the name suggests) was an expansion on the original Macs in that it was the first to have a built-in expansion slot (for things like ethernet cards and the like.)
Despite all these differences, both systems can run up to the same System software (macOS7.5.5) which is crazy considering how old these computers were at the time, the Plus being 11 and the SE being 10.

This is the PC Scotty used in Star Trek IV?
Yes it is.
"Hello computer."
can it play macintosh plus floral shoppe?
If you load the audio file on to a floppy disk using a modern PC and have a compatible sound card on the Macintosh Then yes, yes you can.

Hi, I know a guy selling one. Are try worth anything these days? He wants 280.00
Damn, that heavy garbage cost 2500 dollar at that time.
Haha not surprised a bunch of vaporwaver's have hijacked the comments section
I get 300 fps on Minecraft with this :D

Apple? listening to customer feedback? Either hell must have frozen over in the 80s or jobs was smoking something...
Thank God the '80s are over.
My own dog keeps runing off with difrent people
Does this shit have some color or something?
Shoot oop m8 nobody gives one get laid lol
Nope. Black and white all the way.
