My first bike was my dad's 1980 KZ1000. It sat in the garage all throughout my childhood so when I turned 18, I asked him if I could learn how to ride it. He told me if I can get it running and driving, I could have it. Absolutely love that bike. Always gets old timers checking it out whenever I go somewhere.

My first street bike was a 1977 KZ 1000 B1 LTD. I bought it new just before my 17th birthday and rode it 150,000 miles over the next 15 years. I've owned about 25 motorcycles and driven a lot more over the last 50 years and none had a more comfortable riding position than that bike when modified with rear set pegs and a 2" rise handlebar.

My Dream Bike. I feel like I am the only young adult nowadays that appreciates these older bikes and prefers them over newer ones. I don't care, there is hardly anything in the world cooler than a ripped 20 year old stud ripping down the road on one of these with aviators and long flowing hair and a hot bikini wearing chick clinging on for dear life. I don't care what anyone says, KZ's are badass and they literally oooze badassery and masculinity.

I learned how to ride my dad’s kz when I was about 14! That thing was insane fast and heavy. So much fun and the sound was incredible. Sadly, he sold it when I was 16 or 17. I really wish we still had er. I hope you get a chance to experience this machine!

Rode a diamond sky blue '77 KZ1000 back in '78. Brought it to Fremont dragstrip and ran an 11.8 at 110. Just an exhaust and jetting. Fast for then. Reeled in GS1000's, XS 11's, Kawi 750 triples. Just as fun as my current naked bikes. Miss it dearly.

I had a 1000 R2 1984 ELR,. its not many who knows that this model 1984 even existed. Its was very rare, they only made a few. I drove it about 70 000 km, and the onley issue was the alternator gave up after some 55 000 km. An awsome bike.

I had a old KZ1000 engine on my go cart for awhile. Then put it into my IH Cub Cadet mini tractor. Racing/rider mower. It would go well over 60MPH... I never tried to top it out. it would get sketchy at 50mph... I had already had a 48 Hp forklift engine on it, and added a front suspension and front disk brakes from some old import car. So it did handle decent and stop when b=needed.
It was just WAY too powerful. I was racing motocrass at the time and no fear. But I never ran that cubcadet all the way. Im sure it would go over 100MPH as at 60MPH it was only at 6500Rpms in 5th gear. It also had used rear 15 inch rims, racing slicks on rear, and 13 inch rims up front with car tires. All cobbled from wrecks and salvage. Payed for with my sweat. And machined when necessary by a nice old timer retired auto machinist turned scrapyard guy. He had a small automotive machine shop there too. But no longer machined for pay. He was really old.

Agreed, it was a 70s bike....after 77 everything from the other jap 3 caught up and overtook, both in technical terms and performance...

You are correct , but it actually fell behind in 1978 to the other 3 brands . Although Lawson did win the Superbike title on one in the early 80’s like mentioned in the video.
