This reminds me of the time that I wandered into the Cartier boutique on vacation, fell madly in love with this little rectangular Quartz watch from a jewelry company, and then happily put my diver, chrono, and GMT on the shelf on a regular basis for this little guy. It’s just awesome. And I feel awesome when I wear it. Goes against everything I though I knew about my preferences, but there ya go!
Quartz movements are alright with any Tank, because there's no Seconds hand to give it away, and in an all stainless steel case it's far more tasteful than gold-dipped, gold-filled whatever cases. However; I did like their older more script style logo than the sterile, "modern" block letter version they use now. The SEIKO Tank is a wonderful alternative and also well executed.
Wonderful watch and most likely my next purchase. Love the idea of a 16 year service increment - just found out my wife is pregnant think this could be a good hand me down piece when he or she turns 16/17/18. Replace the battery and here's a HS graduation gift. Major bonus that this will work for a son or a daughter.
That looks awesome on you. I think its a lot more versatile than people think. Great pairing with the bracelet too. The quartz thing is such a non issue when there’s no second hand to worry about
@@YoureTerrific Have you had any issues with it? I've been reading reports of some owners saying it's failed on them and that they've had trouble getting it repaired when sending it back to Cartier. You or your friends encounter anything like this since you got it?

I’m not really a quartz fan but after spending years trying to narrow myself down to one dress watch (all mine are divers) that I can casually wear with a polo this one keeps getting my interest. Especially with this aftermarket bracelet.. for the strap I would pair it with a navy blue croc strap.
Why does everybody in the watch market think automatic watches are so dang good? Solar quartz is far superior. I've owned a Reverso Tribute to 1931 for over 4 years now. I hardly wore it for the first couple of years because of its dressy nature, but something happened to me last year that prompted me to just wear the heck out of it with my jeans, shorts, converses etc. There's something about wearing a super dressy watch in a casual setting. Like it's a statement, but a whole different kind of statement - a classy, reserved kind that stands in clear contrast to the sea of Rolex/sports watch wearers out there. It's awesome. Great vid as usual.
A Reverso is technically a sports watch and unique in nature compared to other hefty sports watches. It works both as a dress watch and with casual dress code. A gorgeous watch in every way. Glad to hear of someone actually wearing it daily and not just as a dress watch. All the best.
I bought a small non-solarbeat variant (CRWSTA0042) this January as my first luxuary watch. The sales personnel at the Cartier boutique Tokyo recommend me the normal quartz over the solarbeat. I thought the 29.5 mm x 22 mm dimension is more true to the classic size although it is marketed as a ladies watch within the current line-up. Some people are gonna say it looks too feminine, but who cares. I like the small size and I have a 5.9" diminutive wrist anyways.
I truly think this bracelet type complements the tank perfectly. Much better than the one offered by Cartier with chunky 3 link design and a lot of wide polished surfaces. Cartier should take note.
I love this watch and it will definitely be my next purchase, but I'd also like to mention how great the footage is in this video. The narration and writing is perfect too! I was engrossed the entire time!
Before i got into watches i wore a gold plate square accurist then i went all rolex and dive watches, but recently i found the accurist in a drawer put a battery in it and wore it for a week, i really liked it and a couple of weeks ago i put it alongside a large solarbeat they were virtually the same, size, style everything, i can see one of these in my future for certain.
Ha, and my gf rolled her eyes when I put a mesh bracelet on my gold-colored Seiko SUP tank homage to get a bit of two-tone swag on a budget. Looks great on you and the size is 🎯
Beautiful- you definitely made the right size choice. It was your Cartier Santos videos that inspired me to pick up my own vintage 187901, which quickly became my fav. watch. Fancy boy watch club's getting bigger.
Not here to compliment the watch, but to just appreciate how well written the script for this video is and how well crafted each shot is. Your witty conversation shots with Chad is not going unnoticed 😁. Lovely video. You earned a life long subscriber
I went with the Tank Must XL. I rationalize it this way: If I want to wear a small vintage style watch, I have actual small vintage watches that fit that role. The XL has this vintage design language with modern size, technology and has a new warrantied movement without the Gremlins associated with genuine vintage pieces. It's the bridge between that bygone era and the modern world. For me.
Interesting.. I went with an XL as well. I love the Guilloché dial, date window and the automatic movement from the Santos.. It just looks so good! I love wearing mine. And I too like Evan, really wear it like a sports watch rather than a delicate dress piece.
You are hysterical. I’m watching you cover watches I have no interest in (rather: in which I have no interest) just for the entertainment value. Keep it up!
It looks stunning paired with the metal bracelet. I am in wholehearted tank agreement about the smaller size being appropriate. Dare I say it, the watch itself becomes sublimated into an object that is more bracelet than watch… which oddly makes it come full circle (or full tank) in that it becomes a ‘tool bracelet’ as it is a bracelet that has a functional aspect… and at that dimension, the Mr. T effect is minimised. No one ‘pities the fool’ that has a Cartier Tank with metal bracelet! (At least they shouldn’t).
My dream watch. Congrats on such an amazing acquisition :) Here in Brazil is kind of tough to get cool watches (ridiculous prices and not much street security). Someday tho...
Nice piece and your Tank needs no introduction. Enjoy. I was tempted to get the Tank Must Large because of the ideal size but I shied away from the quartz movement. Instead, I took the plunge and opted for the Tank XL automatic movement - the same movement as the Santos Large. I am happy I opted for the automatic in-house movement. I have been wearing my new Tank for over 30 straight days and I only wound it one time when I first received it.
I’m not surprised that bracelet in 19mm is currently sold out. Really works well with the Tank Must. My AD just let me know my Large Solarbeat has just arrived, hoping to pick it up early next week. I’ll be sure to order one of the bracelets once it’s back in stock as well. Thanks for the fantastic content as always.
I love what u said about the XL, ‘not too big for a watch, but big for a tank’ so true, I had the XL and found it was too big and had lost the elegance, bought the large after.
The shirt is telling the story as well as making the jokes this time! The quality of the videos (not just the visuals but the writing as well) seems to be going up with every video! Great job!

Congrats, Evan! I can absolutely relate. I bought the Tank Solo before they discontinued it and I'm just lovin' it without any particular reason. It's just such a classic and at the same time fun watch! I love that my Solo is less rounded except the cabouchon which is less pointed which makes the watch overall a little more 'masculine' imho. BUT your SolarBeat is just ingenious! I'm absolutely stunned that Cartier was able to create a solar powered watch without ANY visual hint on the dial! Really love this one for that. Enjoy!
I owned the large quartz Must last year for a couple of days, and tried to sell myself on the size, but in the end I returned it and picked up a Santos medium. Amazing how much ‘bigger’ the Santos medium comes across for itself being a small watch. But on my 7.5” 19CM wrist, the historical significance couldn’t outweigh the tiny wrist presence. Maybe that attitude will change down the line, we’ll see. Great video as always!
I bought a Cartier Must Tank in silver, back in the late 80ies, it is in impeccable condition and it is suddenly very trendy. Weird, it now attracts lots of attention. The glass is slightly domed, that is a sign of a vintage Tank.
One of your best videos !! I have been pining for a Cartier watch for sometime now. As i travel through my watch journey, i have picked up some wisdom as well as some grey hair. I am saving for my "old man" watch which will be a Cartier watch. Yes, i agree when one wears a Cartier, there is a certain feeling that they know what they are wearing and why. I am a huge fan of all watches, and have many solar watches, but they are a younger mans watch and i need to play my part.
Thanks for the video. My SolarBeat arrived in December, I appreciate your video and description and the look inside the case. I like your bracelet, too, but not as much as the Cartier bracelet I ordered that comes with the large Quartz Must. It was pricey but with quick release levers, not pins, it's very functional and substantial. Thank you!
I have this same shirt! Wearing it today, as I watch this video. Was a gift for my birthday last June from my wife! Maybe this is my sign to get a Cartier?
Nice bracelet! Because it doesn’t taper, it gives the watch more presence. I noticed that in particular on the XL. The Tank Must (large size) has the same size as the Tank Louis - that is indeed perfect
Binge watching Tank large videos currently. Did stumble during Watches and Wonders over the Tank must black dial (no indices, just a black dark dial. And I am in love. Did order it but the size. If got 18,5cm wirsts so it is small but with the bracelet you choose for your Solarbeat, well, this might due the trick. A good friend did say: Don’t wear it like a watch, wear it like a bracelet and I think thats actually good advice. So thanks for the vid, cheers.
The Cartier Tank along with the Citizen Ny0040-12x was my 2 childhood dream watch. Now with adult money, I've tried on a Reverso, the Seiko Tank SUP 880, other tonneau shaped watches. And for some reason, when I went to try on the Tank, I fell in love. Bought it in Large, and have never looked back since. People who rock the Cartier Tank are the kind that I wish to strike up a conversation with!
First of all.. Noice! Congrats! 🥳 Secondly, I really appreciate Your dry humour , it hits just hits 👌🏼 Lastly, while I have a smaller wrist than yours, at 6.5 inches, I ended up going with a Tank XL. The Guilloché dial, automatic movement and date window really did it for me. Yes, I’m once again that date window guy! Hi..
Great video! I own the Tank Solo Quartz, which looks almost identical to yours but is not solarbeat. I actually bought it when the solarbeat was announced, as I knew it would be discontinued and I personally preferred the smaller crown and flatter bezels over the solarbeat's design. The one downside is that my watch has a very weird lug width, something like 20.5mm, so my straps have to be custom made and therefore, no chance at a bracelet like yours. Still a perfect watch for me!
I recently purchased a Zenith Port Royal V as I was looking for a similar look. It’s on the bracelet and although I really want to love it I do feel it’s the bracelet that’s withholding me to wear it more often it’s too shiny. Might want to look for an aftermarket bracelet such as yours. Great video 👍
Looks amazing Evan - and another great video. I'm waiting for the Tank Must Black, but if it doesn't come through it'll be this one. I think Cartier also sells a compatible bracelet (but not for $40, I'm sure :).
Is the lug to lug width 19mm or 20mm? You mentioned a 19mm bracelet, but wasn't sure if you sized down. I know previous iterations of the tank solo were 20mm. Thanks.
Looks great on that bracelet. Congrats. I hope to add this to the collection one day. It will look great next to my vintage gold Waltham Premier tank. That said, I have come across a few blogs where there has been some troubling speculation that the solarbeat is not going to be a full time production model. I hope that's not the case because they have a bonafide winner here.
Just bought the regular Quartz Tank Must Large on the SS bracelet yesterday and I'm smitten. To some, 3 g's for this ($3400 taxes included) may seem completely outrageous, but the sales person from the store summed it up perfectly: the quartz movement will never make this an "investment piece", but 10, 20, or 30 years from now, it will still be a Cartier. And that's worth more than just about anything.
I agree and love mine too but unfortunately it has been stolen. By my mother and I don't get a look in! I don't know about you but I found the strap to be very short on my 16cm wrist so I had a strap made in Ostritch which I like. Inteesting that you said that the blue strap version was a limited availability piece. I ended up buying mine through Cartier customer support as I couldn't find any being sold anywhere and I opted for the blue strap just for something different from the usual black. There should also be a green strap version as well I think.
Definitely going to check this out next time I'm at the AD (if it's there). I'm not a big fan of quartz, but somehow it's way cooler if it's solar. I do have a Citizen Eco-drive and I do like it, though it gets worn very seldom (it's a dressy watch contending with about three other mechanical dressy watches I have). Price aside, would this beat out a medium Reverso? That's the question for me.
I've gone through a similar thinking fase. I really like the Santos, but I hate the thought of having (a lot of?) scratches on the bezel. The DLC versions are, in my opinion, not that versatile, not that universal. In comes the Tank. I have a similar wrist size and I must admit that the XL version looks too big (for a Tank) indeed. So now it's a choice between the quartz or the SolarBeat. I really like the bracelet on the quartz version. Choices, choices, ... Thank you for the awesome Cartier (and other too) video's!
I’m a fan of the entry level tanks. I have a 2019 tank solo xl on bracelet (which I had brushed by my local jeweler). The size and style is just perfect on these tanks for my 7.5" wrist. Enjoy it.
Not a huge fan on the strap but looks amazing on the bracelet. I think if I'm going to switch to quartz I'll go with Grand Seiko for similar money though.
Bought this for my wife as she not a huge watch geek and got her a leather band rather than the vegan band. Urs looks a bit small on the strap but gorgeous on the bracelet.Congrats!
I was surprised you didn't mentioned Tank Solo. Mine is the XL one and happy wearing it on daily basis. My best model of all my Cartier watches. I'm glad you share your thoughts about solar beat model, a few.people I know returned back their solar beat as they misunderstood its functionality. Anyway thanks for sharing. Enjoy your solar beat Cartier watch. Cheers
I have had this watch albeit the black strap for a little over a month. I swear I have not worn any other watch since I have bought it. I ordered a bunch of quick release straps and the real Cartier bracelet from the standard quartz version and I just rotate the straps around depending on my outfit. It’s an absolutely amazing timepiece. I get people commenting on it more than my Rolex day date.
Hmmmm! Been looking at this for while…might now head to the Maison for a proper look. Not fussed on the appley strap but LOVE the bracelet you added. As a woman with a post Covid wrist size, the large will be perfect. On a man…elegant and classy I feel.
Your Cartier with this metallic 40 $ strap looks like the watch which (The Great) Gatsby wears in the movie version from 2013. Absolute fantastic and fancy, sporty and old money at once!
You've just given me an idea for my large Solarbeat. I haven't gotten used to how diminutive it is compared to my other watches ( and I have a smaller wrist than you). Maybe a strap change will change my mind.
I didn’t realize the solarbeat didn’t come in an XL, but the large looks great/not too small. My Tissot gets the job done for now but this is definitely my next watch purchase when the time comes.
Great review and finally I get to see the movement! More than a year after the release you were the first person to show it. I also use mine everyday and love it.
"Sacrebleu" well done !! A nice old funny french expression to say something like damn . It is often read in Tintin"s books , it's generaly used by the captain Haddock.
Regarding durability as a daily, I find smaller watches need to be less durable because they’re not constantly getting banged into things. What’s the old quote, “The best way to survive an accident, is not to get into one.”
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the AMZWATCH has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
If it doesn't have a second hand, I don't care if it is quartz or mechanical. The watch seems really small though. I could probably get used to it though. Actually, I have a Cartier that is very similar to this, which is quartz, but it is not solar powered.
Wearing the Ploprof while talking about your Cartier Tank buy… Love it!

A bracelet might have fixed that for you. But I agree, for many people 7.5 is really pushing it for this watch. But I Muhammed Ali might disagree.
@@YoureTerrific I have a 7.5'' wrist and the large Tank Louis is perfect on me, but then again I prefer classical fit and proportion.
I wanted this machine 💯 about 9 minutes ago. Now I may have to go to extralegal lengths to get one 😉 Nice job!
And now you've publicly documented your premeditation!
Congrats! Looks great on you! So glad it's finally coming to US! I have my name on the list at my AD. Love your videos and your sense of humor!
the bracelet is beautiful on the watch. I love the small texture of it more than the big one of the original
Putting Panerai to shame with this classy sandwich dial
It's a very thin sandwich, like a kid's quesadilla.
Noice! Congrats! 🥳
Secondly, I really appreciate Your dry humour , it hits just hits 👌🏼
Lastly, while I have a smaller wrist than yours, at 6.5 inches, I ended up going with a Tank XL. The Guilloché dial, automatic movement and date window really did it for me. Yes, I’m once again that date window guy! Hi..
Great video - I have a tank solo and it goes with me everywhere, a prefect watch if you ask me.
That's a lovely piece.
Buy a braclet for 21mm and a file 👌🏻 Ive done it
I just purchased the large solar beat. At least it isn't a half size, but it comes in at 19mm which is obviously less common.
my dream watch. great catch. I love the way the minute hand move not incrementally.
Man, I just want to say I really enjoy your videos. Wonderful shots, but it's the scripting that gets me. Cheers!
Thanks.
19mm space between the lugs
@@YoureTerrific thx
Looks great on that bracelet. Congrats. I hope to add this to the collection one day. It will look great next to my vintage gold Waltham Premier tank. That said, I have come across a few blogs where there has been some troubling speculation that the solarbeat is not going to be a full time production model. I hope that's not the case because they have a bonafide winner here.
The perfect watch collection:
Summer/Spring - Rolex Sub
Winter/Fall - Cartier Tank
Overseas Travel - Grand Seiko
Mine is similar...
Summer/Spring : Grand Seiko
Funerals/Occasions : Cartier Tank
Daytime/Concerts/Winter : G'Shock MRG
"But this time it's different, I swear"
The lie we all tell ourselves
Come on, baby, I’ve changed.
I wanted to buy this but got the call for the sbgw289. Had to turn down this piece and stick to the gs.
Wise decision 👌🏽
That's a gorgeous piece.
I think that strap makes the watch! Cartierr should create a strap like that! Great combo!!!
Enjoy it.
On the cartier website the Numbers on the dial are connected on Both Models, the Standard Quarz and the Solarbeat model...
I love this vintage bracelet combo!! I'm gonna try it out too!
Not a huge fan on the strap but looks amazing on the bracelet. I think if I'm going to switch to quartz I'll go with Grand Seiko for similar money though.
Bought this for my wife as she not a huge watch geek and got her a leather band rather than the vegan band. Urs looks a bit small on the strap but gorgeous on the bracelet.Congrats!
love the incremental minute hand movement
Well done!
Hmmmm! Been looking at this for while…might now head to the Maison for a proper look. Not fussed on the appley strap but LOVE the bracelet you added. As a woman with a post Covid wrist size, the large will be perfect. On a man…elegant and classy I feel.
Really looks great on that bracelet. Another great video 👍🏼
Your Cartier with this metallic 40 $ strap looks like the watch which (The Great) Gatsby wears in the movie version from 2013. Absolute fantastic and fancy, sporty and old money at once!
Love watching your watch journey, keep up the good work!
I got the quartz must, after hearing some solars going for warranty issues after a few months.
Would love to see you review the Christopher Ward Aquitaine! For watch enthusiasts it seems like sweet spot of affordability and excellent finishing.
It's a cool watch. Spent a few minutes with one at WindUp. I'm sure CW would send me one.
I’d love to see a solar Santos.
Everything is cyclical, right! I hope you're very happy together and the feeling lasts a long time, this time. Great vid & excellent choice of watch.
Thanks, David. Fashion is certainly cyclical. Hopefully my exercise routine is too.
Great review and finally I get to see the movement! More than a year after the release you were the first person to show it.
I also use mine everyday and love it.
Dude, like your style! And now, I want this watch.
I've been keen on buying this watch since the release-day, but now watching it with this bracelet, I HAVE TO GET IT
So, to follow up: how is your experience with the tank as a more casual, everyday driver?
The smallest watch I own. Love it. Strap is a little short and it could be a little bigger because large isn't that large.
"Treating it like Mogwai" got a LOL out of me. Well done. Although not taking a solar beat out in sunlight might be problematic ;)
Simply put, this watch is sublime
Great video. Was in dubio between this and the xl too. Same reason not to pick the xl. But the L felt weird for me. So I’ll rebound to the santos
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the AMZWATCH has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
Great fun, nice vid! I have the Tank Française and it carries the same vibe for me. A perfect watch for dinner at the Cape. 😎
If it doesn't have a second hand, I don't care if it is quartz or mechanical. The watch seems really small though. I could probably get used to it though. Actually, I have a Cartier that is very similar to this, which is quartz, but it is not solar powered.
I also want to change the bracelet. It looks awesome. Do you know what size of the bracelet should I choose for the Tank XL? Thanks.
Literally got mine 2 hours ago. This thing is unbelievable!
Wow, congrats! See, they are starting to show up more place.
Congratulations and the bracelet looks really fantastic on it!
Thanks. Or “tanks”.
