      Coilovers were developed for racing so that springs and spring rates could be changed for differing tracks and/or conditions. Stance queens started using them to slam their suspension and now people think they have to have them without understanding that the same results can be achieved with adjustable shocks and lowered springs.

      @@Maddoggy2023True but anyone with some knowledge wouldn’t pair lowering springs with stock struts. You’d at least wanna change to a stiffer aftermarket. But at that point depending how much that’ll cost, you might as well just buy coilovers and be done with it 😆 What’s bad is if you lower them to the point of having no room for dampening then you basically defeat the purpose of having struts just for looks

    If you do just springs, replace the stocks struts and shocks with Bilstein. They are actually made for lowering springs, where stock are not. Makes a huge difference.

  • @ChrisPBacon9

    Yup, went through this on my Abarth. Coilovers were harsh and bouncy at the rear because of the twist beam and funky mounting points. Lowering springs slightly stiffer than stock and Koni Yellows fixed it right up

  • @albussnow
    @albussnow 3 місяці тому +1

    in general coilovers are a better option, one case where I would get springs is if your OEM shocks have electronic dampening adjustment and you want to retain that feature

  • @user-hz7ti2dz3k
    @user-hz7ti2dz3k 5 місяців тому +1

    I've had two different coilovers and both failed right after warranty expired. Plus, you have to send your blown coilover and wait for them to test and send yo ua new one, meaning you could be out of a ride for weeks. Just buy lowering springs and koni shocks

  • @KC-lg8qf
    @KC-lg8qf Місяць тому

    you dial in the coilovers how you like......with springs you just get what you get, and hope you like them. Also there are coils where you can adjust the damping. That is worth the price alone.

  • @Ronald-ob1eh

    Depends on your oem struts and the weight of your car too. I had neuspeed lowering springs on my vw cc and the drop was ok but not worth how bouncy the ride was. thought I was in a CTS V again

      I agree I want to lower my car and keep stock ride quality I think that would be so perfect. I don’t know why people want lower springs cause it drives so bad. My car bounces like a low rider and it’s not a good ride quality I have eibach with their struts and shocks. I heard HR ride just as bad.

  • @beastz2208
    @beastz2208 Рік тому +19

    Lowering springs aren't really saving you money when you think about it, if you are going to get the lowering springs then you would have to get the shocks to match otherwise the ride quality is going to be pretty garbage and when you buy the shocks you are paying about the same price as an entry level coilover lol

    • @alimunns

      Cheap lowering springs are more comfortable than cheap coilovers 💯. And I just installed 35mm springs on 120k mile old stock shocks. Ride quality is fine tbh better than oem l. But obviously you bottom out abit sooner but still better than Cheap coilovers for handling and comfort.

    • @beastz2208
      @beastz2208 6 місяців тому

      Yeah most definitely, you might as well go the lowering spring route if you don’t plan on spending the extra money on a reputable brand! I’ve recently had some BC racing coilovers installed on my car and the ride quality is pretty good and it could handle corners sooo much better than before

    What is bro on? I bought coilovers so i KNOW that i get the correct hight i want. I dont want to buy lowering springs just to not be happy and have to do it all over again. + coilovers where i live are basically the same price as lowering springs + you get a new shock.

      you probably have a listening disability. he’s essentially saying, for MOST people, buying lowering springs is better than buying coilovers if its just to lower the car. unless youre tracking your car you really dont need coilovers. and if you need coilovers to get “correct height” than youre probably doing something wrong

    I had suspension technique springs with KONI gas shocks . i switched to Megan Racing coilovers ( which many hate on) . not even comparable in ride quality. Megan Racing by far are better ! They have less travel which keeps the car much more stable at high cornering load and over large bumps. I have performance sway bars and few other suspension mods also , running about 3.5" of ride height to the floor of my 280z ,enough to get me over a speed bump, stiff but not a harsh ride at all.

  • @Thatslow_B6

    I think coilovers are easier since you just pop them in and don’t have to compress the spring, remove the spring and put it back on.

  • @RobManser77

    This makes sense if you replace “coilover” with “adjustable perch”. Coilovers usually have that, but they have other advantages beyond that.

    But Lowering Springs like Eibach and HR Ride really bad some people want to lower their car and keep stock Ride quality not ride like a low rider. there is got to be a system like that not ride almost like stock ride just like stock. I don’t see why there cannot be a system like that. My original springs in my car road really good if the ride quality was like that with lower springs, it’ll be perfect.

  • @ericwatler23
    @ericwatler23 2 місяці тому

    So if you want a good ride quality like stock, you shouldn’t get coilovers I thought coilovers like KW Pedders and QA Ride like stock. because lowering Springs ride really bad. I want my car lowered 1.4 inches in the front 1.5 in the back. This is gonna sound crazy, but I want stock ride quality. I don’t want to feel bump. I don’t know why somebody would want to feel every bump.No disrespect, but I want to have my car low without feeling every single bump and crack there is got to be a system out there where you can do that and keep stock Ride quality

  • @KKDriver
    @KKDriver 9 місяців тому +1

    Jokes on you, I adjust them almost every time I ride considering I live in a very poorly paved city. I either take my car out on mountain runs (lowered with a higher dampening rate) or raised up a little with a less aggressive dampening for a smoother ride in town.

      What coil overs are you ridin on? I have Eibach lowering springs with the struts and shocks and I’m very disappointed. I was told some coilovers like pedders KW and QA Ride, just as good as stock if not better that’s what I’m looking for I don’t want a stiff ride. I think it will be so cool to have your car lowered an inch and a half and still have stock ride quality if you think about it all of the newer cars ride really really well so why wouldn’t you want a lowering springs or coilovers to ride just like stock or better!! Again the new cars from 2010 all the way until now the system on those cars ride really really good so if you can have a lowering spring or coilover like that because they don’t bounce like the cars back in the 70s, I wish I had the ability to make some lowering springs and coilovers I would do it or coil over and lowering springs that rides just like stock for your car with a 2 inch air cup so you can raise it up if your car gets a flat tire.

    This guy doesn't know what he's talking about lol, first of all, I have coilovers on my car and I ain't constantly adjusting the ride height since that's the only thing mine do. And second of all not everybody buys $5000 suspension for "track" use when the car is a daily. Third of all, talking from personal experience springs make your car drive like shit, and many times they are ither too high or too low and gues what, you're going to have to take everything appart just to put the oems back in.
