Nice job! Definitely a well needed video. It took me a while to get to the bottom of the difference when I was originally looking. Also, I think you did well going pigment on the black and aniline on the brown. 😁👍
Great video, thank you. Question for you... Do you have a preference to Japanese made or US made leather jackets? or any other origin for that matter. I have both US made and Japanese made and I love them both, but tend to have a bias toward the quality of Japanese jackets, so I am curious to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance
I do like both. My closet is a pretty good mix. I’ve also had jackets from Aero and Thedi which are both European makers. I think the refined meticulous look of some Japanese jackets can make them less preferable for some punk / rock n roll styles for example. Just depends on what you are going for
Good video, and I my understanding of my Y2 KR-42 jacket in Kakishibu is that it’s an analine, like your brown jacket (I.E. dyed), but the dye used leaves that natural color of the leather since the persimmon astringent dye leaves no pigment. Hopefully I’m on track with my understanding. Be glad to hear anything you may have to add. Now I just need to get this coat exposed to some sun. ☀️
@ I’ve been learning what I can. Essentially unripe persimmons they ferment for 2 years. Then for this jacket, they brush it onto the leather by hand. Time intensive apparently which adds to the cost of course. As you may know in Japan the denim is huge, they do some in persimmon and it’s pretty rare. My tendency was a black leather, but the patina this thing will have and the fact that it’s always changing definitely makes it cool.
The brown 613gg, yes I did sell it. Actually it was part of a deal to get the Rainbow Country Speedster. I loved the look but ultimately decided it was too limited with the mobility
@@mitchellfuentes03 hey Mitchell! They are both from Rainbow Country. The black one is Hercules, the brown is a Speedster. I have a brown pre-order 40 Hercules still available here: dudsbydel.com/product/rainbow-country-hercules-sports-jacket-in-seal-brown-shinki-hikaku-horsehide/ You can buy from some Japanese stores if you’d like to do it. I’m currently the only seller in the USA. I’ll be opening another round of pre-orders for next year in late May/early June
@@DudsByDel Yeah, fit is critical with leather jackets. I got mine in Tokyo right after the pandemic. Heard that there has been some changes to the ownership of Flathead and my sports jacket style motorcycle jacket I got is a new model. Had it for almost 2 years and had worn it in light rain condition, that did help with breaking it in.
Hey man how many leather jackets do you have? ……..I am planning to get my first horsehide leather jacket from Areolesthere in UK Scotland. At the moment am rocking a Allsainsts leather jacket since 2019.
Hey man, recent subscriber. Im curious to know what's a decent leather biker leather jacket I the mid tier range? Say 200-400$. I don't want the cheapest of options but don't have the money for a luxury brand leather.
Would probably recommend a quality used jacket. There are many available, for example Schott jackets can be had for $350-400 if you’re patient, sometimes even less. Same for Vanson
Thanks for the explainations, it’s the first time I really understand the key differences 😄 it might help a lot for future acquisition !
Thanks Sebastien, glad it helps!
I always learn so much from your channel. Thank you for going above and beyond with these informative comparisons
Thank Randy! Doing my best man!
Great video man, as always💪🏽
Really appreciate it!
Nice video Del! Great jackets
Really appreciate it Max!

Me too man! Just was too much to take in all at once I think. And the choice was made by Rainbow Country for these leathers

You know, I saw that persimmon leather and thought it was really cool, but don’t have any particular knowledge about it!

Do you think spread collar half belts jacket are meant to be worn short?
Like this Hercules? I think this jacket fits very well, including the length. I think they can be good longer too, if the proportions are right
Ok Del, I have it enough! When we will see your 613?????
Or, did you sell it? 😵
🤠

This is really clear, even for leatherworking in general. Thanks!
Sure thing! And good point, this would apply to any leather finish not just on jackets
You’ve tried a Flathead semi-aniline shinki horse hide black tea core jacket ? What’s your thoughts whether if you’ve had one before or didn’t ?
Have not tried Flat Head jackets but by all accounts the quality is very high, as long as the fit works

Hey I have 7 or 8 currently? It’s a revolving door, as I sell what I don’t wear and buy new ones
Aero can be great if you get a good fit. What model are you getting?
