Sonic Chaos (SMS, PAL) - Sleeping Egg Zone 1 Tails speedrun in

This level is really silly and I don't really understand what's going on at the beginning. Most of the time when I hit these springs, I get much steeper and slower trajectories. It seems holding down right helps, so as to initiate a roll while you hit them, but I'm not sure if that's it or if I just got lucky
