- Drummers LOVE their snare drums. Some drummers will even set up 2-3 snares on their kit to have all kinds of different sonic options. We’ve always wondered, what would it be like if we turned a whole drumkit into snare drums? Like, actually make the toms, and kick SNARE DRUMS!!!!!! Today on The Drum Department, we’ve actually modified an entire drumkit into snare drums! Check out what this crazy kit sounds like, and how we did it!

The irony is the main snare sounded by far the worst, was like something off St. Anger
I'm with you on that. I SOOOO dislike pingy snares.
For me absolutely the same
“dodgeball snare” is the latest popular trend. Like bouncing a heavily inflated dodgeball. I’m not a fan cuz it loses all tone
@@craigtoots3391I always loved Travis Barker's pingy snare on EOTS, but generally I don't like them much.
I loooooooove that snare!
I absolutely love that floor tom without the mute, that is a wicked sound
Yeh me too man 👊
That 10" sounds so good! Trips me out everytime he hit it and it sounded like a snare. Bazaar but really cool!
Bizarre, you mean. Bazaar is a place where you buy things.
The only thing missing is sizzlers for all the cymbals. Oh, and gotta have more snowbell! Oh, and some snympanis, snongos, snongas, and some snimbales.
That snare kit is Epic!!! Great job guys!!!
From the moment I heard this mentioned I was so hooked. Shit sounds way way WAY better than I'd have bet on and now I'm curious about all the imaginable potential this idea leads twords
sometimes i forget how good jared is because i dont watch drumeo often. very impressive.
I'm genuinely considering buying a whole kit specifically to modify just like this. I think I'd use standard wires for the bass, regardless of size, and just extend the snare strings and center the coiled snare on the head. That would be plenty. Definitely something to experiment with.
I think this was an amazing idea, and if I owned a drum company, I'd make this a production option. I was shocked at how great the whole thing sounded. With a little planning, I think the fit and finish could be a bit more polished here and there, but I may need to do this.
Since I'd be going all in, I think I'd go bigger too. I'm thinking a 7 piece Tama Superstar Classic or something along those lines. A serious kit, not just a novelty to hop on and show someone every 6 months. "Hey, check this out." Something you'd sit down and play regularly and record with. This is going to require some time and patience.
The 10” sounds amazing!!! My favorite by far!
Those toms are sounding like 80's Synthpop snare drums.!! amaizing
there is a shortcut to this. get the LP sound enhancer "snare". put a snare hazy head on the botom of your tom. put the snare enhancer on the botom hoop(maybe secure it with some tape). i like to use a singleply top head like on my regular snare and a dampening ring. works great for fat sounds, no drilling, cuting or messing with bearing edges.
so every drum becomes a clap cymbal LMAO
yeah, maybe its more cheaper than buy a clap stack
I’m 65 years old and I’m never heard an own time better groove that Jarrett played. I can say they sound better when they’re played with a track.
Thomas Lang and John Good must see this :)
I just did the same thing to one of my 14"floor toms. The snom is a great addition to mix things up!
Chris Dave loves such drum sets. Cool for hip hop stuff! 👏👏👏
Thank you for doing these videos, this was truly awesome!!!
I did this years ago.
Sometimes the music calls for it. It's a riot!
I’ll vouch for Meinl sticks, they are really nice. I’ve been playing their hybrid 5A in hickory and maple.
Such a cool idea! Sounds great!
Did you put snares on the cymbals too?
This has me cracking up, I love it!
This is just what every drumkit sounds like on festivals where the soundguys really loves their undersnare mic, which is out of phase and louder than everything else. It’s just ubiquitous.
This is so fascinating dudes ! 😂 I love the effort you've put into this. I'm laughing a lot. You should auction it off 😂
This sounds like a really cool drum kit
video unsynced
Fun episode folks. Appreciate it!
Yes! I had this idea not too long ago and was wondering what it would sound like if one were to put snare wires on the toms. I didn't think about the bass drum, though. It's great to see that 22 inch snare wires are actually being produced. What I would really like you to try is record a fast metal song with this kit with all the snare wires turned on. I'm curious whether the toms and the bass drum would stand out in a dense metal mix with lots of distorted guitars. Because now all the drums have distortion, too! That should give them some extra high frequency information and make them easier to hear. But maybe it is the opposite and you can't distinguish the drums from the guitars because everything is just a big mess of distortion. Please try it out, Drumeo!
You are seriously nuts lmao 🤣
please invite the drummer from the band *INFANT ANNIHILATOR*
this would be cool 😀🙏🏻
The snum set … 😂 … We must have one now !!!
I don't know how many snare drums I've been through hahaha 🤣
Dave "Love being able to pop your 10" " (puts arm up) Made me laugh for so long sorry
lotta work modifying the hoops when they have snare hoops in those sizes...except maybe the kick.
The beef behind the 16 tho, I'm with Jared on this. The snares just give the floor some serious attitude!!!
I'm sure I missed the video, but what ear pieces are you guys using?
I've been on Westones W4's for more than a decade.
Cymbals like snare?Next level...
I was the devil on my best friend's shoulder when he was contemplating pulling the trigger on a 14x8 pearl free floater... I told him doooo ittt, it's the drum you'll hit more than any other, of course it'll be worth it!
Wow that is interesting and really cool sounding! I didn't watch the whole video but would be interesting to hear it with Come Together by The Beatles lol.
"Love that I can just pop a 10 inch"... 🤣
The actual snare drum sounds so bad though
Whats the snare (like the actual snare drum) bc I want it, sounds like Lars’ St.Anger snare
If you’re using string instead of a plastic strap you can just drill two holes in the rim to pass the string through rather than cut a whole big rectangle out
Drum Shells are made of metal or wood while the snares can be made of wire, cable or gut .
Pleeeeaaase sample this and make a midi kit haha.
😂😂
What if u guys put portholes in the toms ??
I want this as a kontakt instrument
I guess somewhat sacrilege.doing this to a drumset.. In my opinion, you guys could get a DW performance 7by13 snare+ DW performance 8by14 snare as toms or snom 10by14 collectors snare snare as floortom. Doing this i mean does cost however you can use it without cutting into a drum. Just my opinion.
so what you going to do with that snare drum set?
snared out
should've put snares on the cymbals too
Chris Dave has entered the chat 🥁
Vid need more RDavidR for real
Thank god for the guy in chat. I was about to say to send that snare back to Larz Ulrich. He can keep his St. Anger sounding trash can drums. lol
Sounds like a setting I accidentally chose on my 2box, I also wonder if it has this terrible track baked in 😅
The irony is in thier faces. Lmao. Guys thank you. For alll your work
No es tan fácil improvisar con sonidos nuevos, requiere algo de entrenamiento para colocar bien cada sonido nuevo donde la canción lo pide.
sounds like a crash kit not my fav sound but an effect
It sounds like a set with a loose ass snare belt lol
You guys need to keep that kit until Greyson
He's not that good and what a terrible band name too who even thinks that's cool doing that to babies ?
The bass drum sounds like a cajon.
Poor PDP Concept Maple...great set actually
I dont get it, why say you're gonna replace the entire drum kit with snares if you clearly didn't replace any of the cymbals or the hihat with em?
i like to drum
Who makes a video this long without timestamps? It's almost 2024, peeps
for me the audio and video are wy out of sync, anyone else has this issue ?
Yes
No
yeah they fixed it in the mean while...
@@BigDees19
@@kjdtm Its still out of sync for me.
I think you should add snares to the simbles as well.
Are you happy with that spelling?
@@markysumm72 no but I'm dyslexic so I just learned to not care. This is going to be this way for the rest of my life weather I like it or not.
@@MegaGigabyte ah the dyslexic card. 🙄
who the f*** are you snd why do you care?@@markysumm72
@@MegaGigabyteyou keep you and never feel sorry for the person that you are your special and who cares about the haters you keep being you
Snake drum 😂😂
Just a thought here if you do to much to the kit then it will be unplayable.
Kwatcsh ...
Anyone wanting to try this, do not follow this method. The snare beds are terrible and are not made that way and the hoops should have been drilled the cut leaving more of the hoop strength.
A seriously dumb idea!
put snares on the cymbals you cowards
The audio is off sync with the drum playing So I had to stop watching
It sounds crap and pointless lol buy a handsonic you can have every drum sound you like and much much more,
😴Snorable, sorry guys
Remo head on the actual snare. There’s your problem.
