Yeah but nothing means anything and anything means nothing. Goth is what you want to make it. You can certainly stay on a high horse but I personally like to welcome people who may be interest in the culture, even if they are injecting Sisters of Mercy into their veins from day one.

Yeah, I always thought that as well. This is the age of the Internet and people could easily look it up and do their research on the subculture and music, but they simply choose not to.

Actually, goth also has more subcultures such as trad goth or cybergoth and there is a special goth subculture for those who are not into music or culture, only fashion, and it’s called mall goth

For some odd reason, this wasn’t easily found in the early 2000s despite the rise of the Internet. Once I started listening to goth music, I’ve fallen in love with it. Nosferatu, paralyzed age, the Cure, etc.

Believe it or not things actually grow and change over time regardless of what the gatekeepers say.
It started off as an offshoot of punk sure, but the identity of it has shifted over time whether you like it or not.
its more of a vibe now than anything.
You dont need to look down on others for separating the style and music over the course of 40-50 years.
my goodness people, stop living in the past. that old style of goth and the whole scene is practically dead anyways.

The goths are not a subculture. It was a germanic tribe from the 2nd century to the 6th century. There are famous people that were goths like Alaric Theoderic the Great and Ermanaric

So yes, the word Goth was originally associated within history through the 2nd century to the 6th, however, it is now also associated with music. It's both.
