    I love this technique! If I’m not careful, I’m going to be losing my day job because I keep getting caught watching your videos on Wednesdays, haha! My mind is running like I’m crazy thinking about using this. Thanks for another great video. 💚

      @fancifuldevices Thanks so much ! Me too I love to watch the wax do what it wants to do. It's kind of therapeutic :)))

    Oh man, Shari! This was a great one! It gave me so many ideas for what I want to do with my burgeoning encaustic work. Oh my GOSH! Thank you so much for sharing this technique with us. When I search for encaustic videos, I feel like most of them are only focused on the beginner. I love how you take it to the next phase - the FUN STUFF! hahaha....you're the greatest, hugs, cat

    Did you put the wood glue down first before any encaustic medium?

    Sooo cool. Thank you for sharing your art and techniques with us. 🎨❤️Can this technique be use with oils and cold wax ?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  4 роки тому

      Yes, glue burn can work underneath your layers if you are working on a wood panel and then adding cold wax. The graphite can as well if the cold wax layer is fairly dry and flat :) Have fun !

      Just make sure you don't heat the cold wax medium- it's toxic when heated. It works best to do cold wax and oils over top of an encaustic base.

    Can you apply graphite marks to cold wax like you are doing in this video? Also can you heat up cold wax with a heat gun?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Anne Marie ! I love using graphite with cold wax but I don't heat it because unlike encaustic , the cold wax contains solvents :) Hope this helps and have fun !

    I must be a real dummy because I can never seem to be able to find the link for the blog that correlates to each of your videos. I am a beginner to art and encaustics. Add to that I’m down in Mexico and can’t get the products I need to make this work for me. Very frustrating. One of the basics I’m starting with is making my own en caustic medium. Right now I’m using a ratio of 8 to 1 beeswax to Dahmer and my wax never seems to get dry enough for make any kind of marks in the wax. The oil sticks I found are cheap and way too hard to be able to present any of the grooves in crevices. I feel like I might give up before I even start. But I sure love watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge. Would Encausticology 101 help me at all if I can’t get the products that I need to begin this?

      Hi Sarah I am so sorry for your supply frustrations ! We all have a struggle right now with no taking trips to the art store. My blog is on sharireplogle.com and just hit the blog button at the top. The link is also under the videos to that week's post . Yes, there are many brands of oil sticks but oil sticks that are the softest are probably the R and F Paint's brand which they call "Pigment Sticks" . Artists "usually" work between an 8:1 down to a 6:1 ratio of Beeswax to damar resin. Yes the Encausticology 101 has all of instruction for what supplies , set up, walks you step by step on how to begin , and then has a LOT of projects that help you build up techniques as you go. The details for that workshop are here : www.sharireplogle.com/store/p3/Encausticology-101-workshop.html Encaustics lends itself to such a huge variety of fun processes , don't give up, keep going :)

      Shari Replogle thanks... the class sounds great but what’s up with the wax not getting hard enough to actually “rub in color” without having the previous wax rub away at the same time.. the wax is just too soft.. should I add more Damer.. ? Go with a 6-1 ratio?

      @@sarahclay531 just curious-are you using damar resin crystals or liquid damar? The crystals (little resin 'rocks') are what you need to make the beeswax harder and it will also give it more of a shiny (when buffed), durable finish. Are you able to order encaustic medium from Amazon? It is easiest when you are just beginning. All the best in your encaustic journey- it's such an exciting medium!

      Michelle Vandyk Thanks so much for your response. I’m actually going to the United States tomorrow so I’m gonna order some products while I’m there. I have been using damar crystals
