My 12 year old daughter opened her first (and my first) Lion Chief Plus BNSF 4 axle diesel for Christmas this morning and these units are amazing! I’m really beside myself how smoothly they run. I must admit here to the world, as much as I dislike “crew talk” during these videos, my daughters jaw dropped as she hit her first command. All morning she’s been using crew talk to initiate a “slow start” in her make believe town and they have inspired her to expand her layout on the carpet to include a complete village. What a great job from Lionel... my opinion of “crew talk” has been changed!
Dear Eric, Thanks to you I am now intrigued Into this hobby Of model railroading.(In HO scale) I caught on with your channel With an old Video. (Lionel Santa Fe AC600) It sparked my Idea of model railroading, And on Christmas day I received a NYC Bachmann 4-6-2. Thank you for leading me to this point. We also Have a layout scheduled to be built soon- So I will gladly, thank you. You helped light the fire to my hobby. -Longtime fan, Rob white.
hey Eric! seeing your account is getting up there in years and the table is almost completely complete you should do a highlight video of your years on youtube and the layout! I've been watching since I was 9 and now it has been 10 years of Erics Trains, I am so blown away by the progress on the layout, but also on the quality of your videos. Just looking for a little nostalgia haha, cheers
Merry Christmas Eric. BTW the regular crew talk sounds has Rich Melvin. Perfect voice to hear on 765, and 1225 either Pere Marquette or the Polar Express.
@@Mnrr6131 No, I know what he is saying. That's just supposed to be the dialogue. After Tom Hanks says, "Why to the North Pole, of course! This is the Polar Express", the hero boy asks, "The North Pole?"
I happen to live where a lot of Polar express was filmed. The director Robert Zemeckis Is from Chicago . He used a lot of the Pullman buildings in the film . The clock tower from the factory grounds and the market square area from the actual Pullman neighborhood. The Pullman factory and neighborhood are actually a National Park now . The only National Park with in the borders of the city of Chicago. Eric if you ever get the chance you should come visit us in October for the Pullman House tours . Lot of railroad history here . Merry Christmas Eric to you and your wife .
You know, Eric, I have seen the polar express in theatres. and it was amazing. the one part that scared me when I was a kid was the ice lake scene, why, because mainly when the ice began to crack. I thought the train was never going to make it back to the rails. but it did. I sigh in relive. I always think the ice scene was unrealistic. like, when a giant steam locomotive does not crack the ice. but yet, a tiny hair pin does.
I got a train this Christmas and I loveeeee it ,it’s a Lionel Union Pacific 647 Hudson with lion chief plus ,it’s sooooo cooool .can you please do a review on it ?
Merry Christmas Eric! I saw and read your review on this in Classic Toy Trains, what an honor that you've been able to write review articles for them. To be honest, and I'm just telling it like it is, not being cynical. Unless Lionel's sales figures say otherwise, I don't believe this is a good idea of a locomotive to make. It's too "Middle of the Road" because it's too expensive for kids to run and it's too under-detailed for prototypical model railroaders. Lionel did it better originally by having the full-scale, fully-detailed Pere Marquette #1225 with the scale, fully-detailed Polar Express tender as well as all of the starter set Polar Express steam locomotives. This is just a pigeon-holed product that would be very difficult to market. For example, I like scale, highly-detailed locomotives, and I wouldn't buy this because it doesn't have enough prototypical detail, and I wouldn't buy it for a child either because it's too expensive. Given the choice, I'd much rather buy Lionel's full-scale Pere Marquette #1225 with the full-scale Polar Express tender (for myself) or the starter set Lionel Polar Express (for a child).
I'm not a fan of the Polar Express because what they did to the rear deck on the observation car. That big, round deck just doesn't look right. The Berk looks great despite the added larger pilot.
This is actually a nice thing for you to try but don’t over do it Eric. We love your videos also matter what Will you run the Polar Express with the released passenger cars?
Ok gang I need your help, Im going to purchase one of these soon, will the standard Polar express cars work with this? I plan on ordering the engine by the end of the month and one car every month after. Thanks gang!
TheUsmc1488 just Incase you haven’t done it yet: mechanically yes the polar express cars will work with this. Looks wise it won’t look good since they are much shorter than the ones meant for this loco
Great Christmas video. I'm sorry Eric but I don't think Passenger trains were meant to travel slow except when approaching or leaving a station. You did have one scene hi-balling it by the tunnel. It made the whole video for me. Thanks again. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Holidays to you and the family.
Can you please put the link to where you brought this. I am very interested in getting a polar express and I would like to get this model versus the other ones. Thank you.
Also I think the polar express would sound better and be unique if they used the whistle from the movie and the engineer and drivers voices and Santa as the dispatcher instead
Wonderful review Eric! I do love the Polar! Do you intend on getting the matching passenger cars? If so, will we get a review on those later on down the line?

Fun fact: all Tom Hanks character merchandise, from Woody to the PE conductor, are the voice of Tom’s brother. Tom only voices the films.
The whistle sounds are from back to the future that you here In the polar express movie
I saw your write up in Classic Toy mag. Good article, great vid!
Conducter: merry christmas
Hero boy: what?
Conducter: MERRY, CHRISTMAS!
Simply beautiful! Thanks Eric, and Merry Christmas..

Yep, what better engine to run on Christmas day? Merry Christmas Mark!
Bill Yates nothing! Thanks Bill! Merry Christmas to you too!
Merry Christmas Eric!!!
The bell seriously goes off to the rhythm of "jingle bells". Did you notice?

Polar Express = Pere Marquette #1225
;D

Well can argue with that.............
Great video Eric! Merry Christmas!
This has one of my most liked whistles on a Lionel train
Merry Christmas
Wow, this next week is going to be fun. 😀😀😀
Do the polar express car set contain a station sounds diner because if it does I can just imagine all the movie scene sounds that would have!
Now that's what I call a passenger train. Great chugging sounds!
Why does Lionel never use the right whistle for the polar express? Watch the movie, you’ll see what I’m saying
Nice engine and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Eric!!!!
i have never seen the pere marquette 1225 in michigan but let u know if i see one but it will not brobaly be in my area a small city
I love the polar express model that was a great purchase for you
You can also control it with the lionel universal remote
wish they didn't put the number boards on the top. Its not in the movie. Minor detail nut still awesome.
Eric, what are your thoughts on The Polar Express movie?
Merry Christmas Eric and nice review
Merry Christmas, Eric, have a great day!
Bound to be a fightin' free bonanza, whistle whines are one of many signs of the Piedmont Christmas Bash!
So awesome Eric.
Merry Christmas mate!!
Great videos and Merry Christmas .
Merry Christmas!
I’m looking forward to your video of your Lionel Pere Marquette 1225. Merry Christmas, Eric.
I love the polar express
That's pretty cool of Tom Hanks to do that
MOM GIMME THE CREDIT CARD I WANT THIS TRAIN! "Edit I bought the train"
exactly.
I also think Lionel should of put white trimming on the drive wheels.
I wish I had this train I have tried to get this train since the first time it came out I wish I had this so badly
Nice !thanks brother

How do you toggle between the generic dialogue and the movie specific dialogue?
Merry Christmas also🎄🎄
Not that I have any problems with any models made thus far, I just wish someone would make a model with a recording of the whistle used in the movie.
You should review the new Lionel 15th Anniversary polar express
That's not gonna happen
I love that engine
You need to invest in some of the polar express heavyweight passenger cars
Scale and gauge are the same thing
Nice video👍Merry Christmas Eric🎄
Great video 😀👍👍

Michigan? Steam trains are still in use in real life??
I love Berkshires

Will you run the Polar Express with the released passenger cars?
What is the retail price for this engine
Great video. What functions do you lose if you run only on the Lionchief app? I do not have Legacy.
John Ptak quilling whistle is one of them, you won’t be able to quill it on the app
Dman Dc do you still get the announcements and the smoking whistle?
I like how the bell plays Jingle Bells.
Amazing.

Great review of a really nice engine. I'll stick with my semi-scale Berkshire and save a thousand bucks but it is nice. Merry Christmas Eric!
He said Berkshur he said Berkshire wrong, its berk-shie-r
I am sad now.
Pretty pathetic that you're upset over this.
Very cool!
My question is ... do they do a good job of syncing the sound with the engine? . The chugging seems to be not synced with the piston rods movement.
should chug every quarter turn.
How can you afford all these trains lol
Also I think the polar express would sound better and be unique if they used the whistle from the movie and the engineer and drivers voices and Santa as the dispatcher instead
What is the best Polar Express train set to buy of all the different ones that have been made?
Aayyyyyy those crescent limited cars very nice
Will you do Christmas Bonanza this year?
this is nice, but I personally prefer the gold one
I spy a DeutscheBahn locomotive in the background at 0:46
I want to get that so bad
I know lionel isent selling this train any more but I was wondering if anyone knows were I could get one some how new or used?
I thought they didn’t make these no more
