Used to drive 1.8 Sakata Mazda 6 2005 and thinking of buying a 2007 2.0 litre petrol mazda. should I? I currently have a BMW but it's costing a fortune.

I got a 2008 1.8i and when I have a cold start, the rpm go up as high as 1800, comes down to about 1500, stays there for a bit and then it slowly comes down. Is it normal? Or is it something related to the fuel and air mixture?
