    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    Tom- Thank you for this excellent video! I’m learning so much from you, and I appreciate your great attitude. My brother, Chris, has joined your school and I’m going to be doing the same thing. I also love and appreciate that you kept your McChunker in this video. It’s very stress relieving to see that even you chunk it every once in a while. Now if the rest of us could only reduce our current chunk factor of 73.25% to less than 10% we’d be ecstatic. 😂 On that note, I watched your video about keeping the lead arm straight and reducing the extent of the backswing and I found it incredibly helpful. I always thought I had to take the clubs back much further, but you’re right, I’m hitting the ball almost as far, and sometimes further by keeping the backswing simple and not going back too far.😊

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the precision of your chunk factor research data, Matt..... 😆😆
      The key here is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist). This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur:
      1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift
      2) the wrists will break down
      3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side
      4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball
      5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight.
      6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact
      7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury
      We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum".
      I'm glad to know that your brother is enrolled in the school and I look forward to seeing you there very soon as well!
      Embrace the challenge that is this greatest of games and have fun out there!!

Believe it or not, I’ve figured how to do the same thing as a lawyer and now a judge; but that’s a story for another time. For now, many thanks for your guidance. Tom, of all of the golf instruction videos I have watched I find your simplified techniques and teaching methods to be the most helpful and productive because they produce the quickest results. Your common sense approach to teaching works great. I bought a net and a mat at the beginning of February. I and my twelve year old grandson have been implementing your swing instructions into our practice sessions. I started out our practice sessions with the new net and mat by videoing our swings in slow motion. We would watch your videos before beginning our practices. Within days we both saw dramatic and positive results in our swings. During our practice sessions my grandson and I would be sure to adhere to what Tom Saguto says about the golf swing.
    We both are very excited for the golf season to get here, (in upstate, NY) so that we can take our new and improved swings to the golf course.

    Love the slow-mo and pause in this one...I really think it helps to see what is occurring in the swing...it happens so fast and I can't always see what you or others are referring to. Great job! I also think this is why most golfers that I have been around, give the craziest advice or analysis of someone swing when they hit a bad shot. They saw something and blame it rather than what caused what they saw.
    Also wanted to add that I bought the stack and tilt videos way back when they came out. It really helped my game. I am so glad I found you on you tube to help me understand the swing better. Great video Tom. I have an amateur question. In your video, you have the downswing path stick pointing to the right. If the shaft follow the downswing path stick during downswing, wouldn't the ball also go to the right if the club face is square with the shaft? I guess maybe you need to coordinate the hip rotation so that the shaft goes from the club path to the target path before impact? Would be nice if we can see the "side view" angle also.

      Hey Lawrence, thanks for the kind words! The shaft leans slightly more forward at impact when compared to address but I don't consciously try to go knuckles down -that requires some side bending of the wrists and, if I do that, my contact point and path will change.

    Hi Tom greetings from Australia. I just wanted to say thanks for such an amazing video. I joined your Saguto.golf site and haven’t looked back since. This video in particular really solidified it for me. I have always had a constant fade and struggled to draw my irons, woods and driver. But using the alignment stick and using my right arm my swing plane has improved instantly. I hit 200 balls today and other than 5 straight shots every one of them had a baby draw. I was blown away. I’m a big advocate of your stack and tilt method. I’ve literally never hit the ball crisper or better. Love watching your great videos. Thanks and great work. Ps great website also.. Steve

I was ready to quit about 6 weeks ago. Then things got better as I paid more attention to my set up. Setting up properly is SO important with this swing. Every detail is important. I used to grip and rip. You can't do that with stack and tilt. I'm just now getting confidence and I probably have hit 200 balls a day on some days. Alot of that was wasted practice because I wasn't paying attention to the details. I'm convinced now this is a solid method. Check out Hogan's book 5 fundamentals. Tom I'm having an issue with a new driver, it's a stiff flex shaft (ping) just like my old one but for some reason it only goes straight if I swing gently and hit around 240 yards, I have always had a neutral grip and it's no problem with any other club but with this driver as soon as I swing hard I get a push slice, infact I can hit it dead straight but I have to strengthen my grip so much that if I return to neutral at address the clubface is nearly 45° closed ??? It's as if the shaft is twisting open on the downswing and without that super strong grip I can't stop it happening, I never had this before wirh the other driver. Any thoughts? I was really struggling to get it down to the ball also, it's got me a bit rattled, (with the super strong grip they were dead straight with no pull which makes me think it's maybe not a path issue ) the grip does feel a little thinner though could it be that? I'm not ruling out I was swinging like a spud but I've never experienced anything like this.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Daz, it could be many different reasons but one of the most common when trying to swing too hard or hit it harder is that you end up being steep into impact. You can still hit a push-slice that way - you may be steep and still swinging in-to-out OR you could be swinging fine and hitting huge pushes because your path is too much in-to-out. It's tough to tell without seeing your swing. Evaluate: push slice - face open at impact with a face to path number that is out-to-in.
      45 degree clubface closed is rather severe though, I suspect that is swing related. Face is too open.

    • @SagutoGolf

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому

      From the face-on view the shaft would be an extension of your lead arm, with the hands positioned even with this inside of the lead arm. Ball position varies from mid-stance for the short irons and incrementally notching forward as the clubs get longer, the farthest forward being the driver when the ball is positioned even with the inside of the lead heel. Hand position remains constant throughout the bag. Of course, these are stock ball positions and this system affords ample leeway for individual preferences.

      Actually I teach the Stack and Tilt method, a golf swing system based on data from the best golf ball strikers and which is rooted in these three fundamentals exemplified by these players: 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistently crispy contact) 2. Have enough power to play the golf course well (distance) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST be able to do these three non-negotiables in order to truly be good at golf, and Stack and Tilt provides a road map for accomplishing them incredibly well in a low-maintenance and body-friendly manner.

    If you wanted to power fade would you still be keeping the club behind you like this

      Yes, check out my video on power fade and you'll find it to be a similar path.

    Please make a video on pushing the ball. I have found that my hands lag behind and I’m hitting inside out. So I tend to push and over think my hands having the “flick”. Please help.

    Tom your golf tips are amazing...now let me give you a tip I learned from back in my younger days as a valet, if you want to extend the range of your key fob hold it directly under your chin while locking/unlocking or trying to turn off the alarm while on the range!!! Your head acts like an antenna. Also never trust a 20 something year old valet with your rear wheel drive sports car as we had a special lot behind the building where we’d hold some serious donut sessions 😜

      Thank you so much! I'll have to keep that valet tip in mind LOL. Also, NO SPORTS CARS and valet for me :P

      No sports car for me either, but with your tips I’ll be making so much money off my buddies I’ll have that Lambo in no time 🙄

    Aka the Ben Hogan magic elbow. Been playing good and bad alternately for 35 years now. Tried this on the range today, didn’t miss a shot with a 7 iron the whole time. Wtf took me so long 😂

      Yep - This pairs nicely with the "Magic Elbow" episode. I'm glad it worked so well for you!!
      Great job incorporating this into your swing so quickly!!

      @@SagutoGolf thanks for responding Tom. I dig your channel. When I was your age I played golf everyday and got to be really good. I didn’t have the wisdom nor the understanding of the mechanics that you seem to possess. I went to the range again and had mixed results. When I get that elbow on the right path in my upswing, the shot is effortless. I’m trying to figure out how to get that feeling on how to get it into the right position every time. Anyways great tips and a new subscriber. Keep on trucking son

    Actually if I could get my second shot golfer to play on the first shot I'd be on TV😜

      The mindset of the second shot is ALWAYS so much more free and un-caring when compared to that first shot LOL
