    Thanks for posting this, Ed. My 2013 Accord with 80,000 miles on it had an issue like this. When I turned the ignition, the dash lights lit up but no engine, no starter noise, If I played with the key; pressure from different angles while turning, it would start but it was getting worse as time went by. I bought the part for $39 (Honda wanted $300 for labor and $93 for the part) and installed it per your excellent video. It took me a little over an hour as working the screw facing the front of the car was a pain to get at. Issue solved. Thanks again, I appreciate you taking the time to do this.

      Trouble seems to show up with the switches and starter about 60000-70000 miles. If the transmission switch and starter haven’t caused problems yet, you might want to look at those videos. You’re over due. Glad I could help you and a 1000+ other people out. Videos are a hobby. My way of giving back. Everybody should do something good in the public domain. Responses like yours keep me looking for my next video “how to.”

    This video helped me. I have a 2016 accord sport. I have good battery, good starter, good alternator. Even switch the battery terminals & none of those were the problem. It was the ignition switch all along. Had problem starting car & sometimes had to jumpstart. Works perfectly fine now. Thank you for sharing video👍🏻

    I just found a video for a Civic that looks a lot easier, too. Not knocking yours. If I ever need help I hope I can ask you. I'm a retired DIYer and my daughter is 100 miles away. Her car Is intermittent in turning over but warning lights are on. I told her to hold the key on and slap the dashboard. haha

    • @EdHumble
      @EdHumble  2 роки тому +1

      See my videos on The transmission interlock and starter. It could be any or all of them.

    • @1mizanthrope1
      @1mizanthrope1 2 роки тому

      @@EdHumble Thanks for the tip! The problem is intermittent and you know that is hard to impossible to troubleshoot until it fails completely. Some times it takes her 2 or more twists of the key for the starter to engage. I am considering all those possibilities or even a bad connector. I hope it holds up for a few more months because my daughter is going to buy a Bronco, which I tried to talk her out of. Since she lives 100 miles away, I can't actively try any diagnostics with a meter, but in the meantime I am going to see if I can get a wiring diagram for that circuit from Autozone and watch your video. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

    • @EdHumble
      @EdHumble  2 роки тому

      @@1mizanthrope1 It can go completely at any time. The starter is the hardest to fix.If the transmission switch is the issue, it'll show the wrong gear or no gear indicator at all on the dash. It may also NOT ALLOW THE ALTERNATOR TO CHARGE!! Turn on the Lights and make sure you get 14V running at the battery. The other two are about impossible to separate. Change the ignition switch first. If it does it again, starter time! DON"T WAIT! When it goes, a tow truck is the only option. I actually had to fully rebuild the starter. There are TWO different starters and thus rebuild kits for 2013. The first generation starters had a REAL short spring travel and small contact pads that burned easily.

    • @1mizanthrope1
      @1mizanthrope1 2 роки тому

      @@EdHumble That's good to know about the transmission switch. This didn't start happening until her employer relocated 10 minutes from her house. Plus a lot of short trips. Her two year old battery was replaced free from Autozone. it went away with the new battery for a couple months. I told her to take rides on the X-way to keep the charge up. If it is the starter, I will probably replace it. A while back she had an oil change and the guy forgot to put the oil cap back on. So the engine got soaked. Yeah I need to check the alternator.

    • @EdHumble

      The ignition switch is the first suspect and easiest to change. Lights having nothing to do with the ignition switch. The Transmission interlock switch and starter can not be ruled out until checked. They all fail about 60,000 -70,000 miles. I’ve got videos on all of them.

    How did you know it was the switch and not the starter?

    • @EdHumble
      @EdHumble  4 роки тому +1

      Short answer: You don’t.
      The switch is just easier and cheaper to replace. I suppose if you have a wiring diagram, multimeter, and two people, you could probe the wiring to make sure the hot wire to the starter is good. My experience says the starter, transmission switch, and ignition switch all go about the same time. ~60,000 miles.

    • @EdHumble

      Honda starter solenoids are kinda rinky dink. Large current. Small contact pad for the solenoid. I did a video on how two upgrade the rebuild. My way should easily go 100,000 miles.
