The flight attendant zero-g ballet may have been one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Can only wonder what performances like that will be in the future. Now I want a cirque du soleil, INNNnnn SPAAACEEeeee
I was confused because zero-G planes only have about 30 seconds of zero-G in each parabola they fly. Then I read the Wikipedia article; this is eight different zero-G episodes cleverly spliced together and slowed down 30%.
Watch carefully and you'll see several moments where everything falls to the floor during a pull-up... and one where one of the band barely makes it to his seat before he gets slammed down into the cushions.
I was going to comment something similar, and then I though surely other people have also realized that if this is indeed “real” it is spliced together and slowed down, so it seems they are in the air weightless for much longer. Slowing it down too for dramatic effect, even still , that is amazing they too this in several free fall intervals over the course of days. Blows my mind at the creativity this took.

It was probably fun until the plane pulls up and they feel twice their weight pushing down on them. That's the trade off for real Zero-G on Earth; when the plane "dives" they get the Zero-G feeling, but unless they want to crash the plane eventually has to pull back up and all that force is applied to them in the opposite direction making it extremely unpleasant (not to mention the motion sickness you're bound to get from riding "waves" on a plane).
In an era of smoke and mirrors and special effects, how great it is to see something so visually entertaining IN ONE CONTINUOUS SHOT. No cut aways, no reset, no cheating. Art. Bloody amazing. Hats off, gentlemen.
Right at 1:46 you can see where they spliced two clips together. Watch the girl on the left's hand on her hip. This one had to be multiple shots because you can't keep zero G going for three minutes straight or the plane will crash. In the BTS vid they said it can only do zero G for about 30 seconds at a time, so they had to cleverly plan moments where they stop moving so they can cut and wait for the plane to go back up for another dive.
Please be more accurate, this video in particular is NOT in one take because you can't pull Zero G for that long here on Earth. More accurately the plane can't.
according to their website it is one take, but with the climb back up cut out, so they drop for 20-30 seconds, then freeze for 2 min while they climb back up and continue when they dive again.
It is a single take, of a 15 minute flight with performers holding still between 27 second intervals of zero gee. The long intervals with gravity are sped up and/or cut out, but the video you see is of 9 consecutive intervals of zero gee with nothing cut in from previous attempts.

@@Yumpop82 the onus is on you to protect your children from the world, not on the world to change for the sake of your son. Also, that was the most harmless form of cussing.
No wires, No green screen, but plenty of computing power was used to stich those 8 zero-g parabolic arcs together to make the transitions look seamless. A lot of hard work went into this in the form of planning, choreography, timing, lots of practice and execution. The time stamps for the start of each zero-g period are: #1: 0:23 #2: 0:45 #3: 1:04 #4: 1:25 #5: 1:46 #6: 2:07 #7: 2:26 #8: 2:47
I dont think there were any cuts. the way these zero-g planes work is that they basically go up (gravity) and then go into freefall (zero-g) and rinse and repeat throughout the video
@@tealsquid7205 there is a cut & stitch in the video cause zero gravity only takes 27sec & 45min to get back to another zero gravity. the song is 3min & you can't have a 3min zero gravity unless you're on outer space...which I doubt they will ever be as the behind the scenes video says the entire ordeal is a puking marathon for the crew. (therefore none of them will ever pass the med examination & training to be astronaut/cosmonaut)
@@GeorgeAndLennyGaming there are definitely cuts. The plane can only fly zero-g for a short period of time. If you pay attention, you can see where they put them in.

i am so grateful that some time six years ago i discovered this music video by accident and then by consequence - one of the greatest bands ever. a completely different person now, my love for OKGO has remained the same. no one else has ever done it even close to comparison. thank you for the monumental effect you've had on my life :)
They apparently had to mess with the timing of things since the plane can only do the zero-g thing for about 27 seconds at a time - so every time you see a "reset" like that they had to stop for a second and then they spliced it all together after (if you search the making of the page on the OK Go website explains it much better than I just did)
This honestly should be their most viewed of all time. The effort put into making this song, and how good it looks is insane. Plus this is probably their best song ever made. Absolutely amazing video.
This is amazing! My psychology teacher showed this to us to explain how free falling can mimic zero gravity, and the amount of time put into this is crazy! Having to fall from the sky inside an airplane constantly just to film this music video is amazing! The cleanup and details must have been exhausting! When the balloons with paint popped, all I could think was "Noooooo.... that's going to take forever to clean up!" You guys are amazing for being able to shoot this video and to keep your dance moves on point without flying off or all over the place. Just props to OK Go! Props to the clean up crew! Props to S7 Airlines! Props to everyone who contributed to this!
Free falling doesn't "mimic" zero gravity. There is really no difference between the Physics of this and the weightlessnes you would experience, say, aboard the ISS. A Spaceship in Orbit is, after all, just freefalling around Earth.
I love how with the flight attendant’s ballet they took advantage of the principle of angular momentum. I’ve seen physics teachers spinning on swivel chairs but I have never seen in just in the air before!
At this rate, If Ok Go shows a dragon with wings and fire breath, and said it was real, I'd believe because all their videos are... incredibly magical.
3:13 "Yeah! Whoo!" I'll give OK Go this much: I don't listen to their songs (I prefer orchestral, sometimes with vocals), but their do-it-in-one-take music videos _are_ entertaining. Whoever their producer/director was on this one faced a real challenge playing around with a shifting-gravity environment, no doubts there!
+NailGames Oh? I watched it three times now, and there's only one time (a yellow suitcase, 2:03 ) where the camera is completely blocked enough to slip in a cut.
+EVA_Unit_4A sorry about the length... so it's actually really cool how they did it. Both of you are right... there were many takes of of the video. there was a lot of coreography that had to happen in zero gravity. the problem is that the parabolic flight only provides 27 seconds of zero gravity. OK Go song has parts that last 21 seconds each. The timing of the parabolic maneuver cannot feasibly be changed so they slowed the song down instead, so each 21 second melody lasted 27 seconds. The next hurdle was that after the "freefall" the plane had to climb 10000 feet back up, which obviously way longer than a second or two. for this, OK Go stayed as still as possible for the climb (which was nearly 2 Gs) and sped up/cut out the ascent. Depending on how you look at it you could say it's not filmed in one take... but because the zero gravity parts were all shot consecutively... I consider it to be a single long shot.
Randallpw I saw one of their other "one-take" videos (I don't remember which one, they were in Japan and use a drone camera), and the behind-the-scenes showed that it was filmed much slower than the final video. Fair enough- you could see things moving in an odd way, but, for the most part, it _looks_ like a single, continuous shot from start to finish! This video looks about the same- the camera never stops rolling _even if_ ultimately it was filmed at a slower frame rate and then sped up during editing. You can see when the plane goes up, because everything slides back down and you see muscles straining against the positive-Gs! My point is, they may have shot this multiple times, but the footage they shot was ultimately from a single, continuous shot where the camera does not stop at any point, and there is no trick-photography where they hide a cut by having something big (or photo-shopping with computer animation) hide the cut in the original footage.
They were in collaboration with Facebook, and they posted there themselves, so all the royalties belong to them. :) Unlike those stupid pages on Facebook who re-uploads videos made by UA-cam creators and steals all the revenue the creators deserve
+cam cam dude but actually? that last bit w the balloons took 8 takes, they have a behind the scenes video on their channel and its really cool to watch
This has to be my favorite music video of all time. You can tell how much effort was put into it on everyones individual level, rewatching it just to see how everyone does their part, its amazing!
1:31 Holy shit those ladies are amazing! Those spins at the end were very figure skater-esque. I kinda wish the video had more of them being acrobatic dance queens in zero g. I can only imagine how long it took to clean the entire plane, replace the props, clean the costumes, and refuel the plane for another take, though. I wonder how many it took before they got the perfect take?
I love how casual they look while taking 2Gs, in high heels. I would have a hard time standing streight while lifting a back-pack of my own body-weight . There is a "behind the scenes" on this one ua-cam.com/video/Gsnyqu7xq9c/v-deo.html It was 7 or 8 takes.
Can we give props to the EDITOR here?! This is the kind of project where if the editor does their job right, no one should notice the editor. I don’t think many people understand that this kind of editing is not just splicing takes together. Each portion of the frame with a moving part has to be edited separately. For ex. The ideal time to cut the video on the right side of the screen might be different from the ideal time to cut on the left side. And in the same shot, the balls flying through the air may need to be edited separately from everything going on behind them. In fact, if you pay REALLY close attention, at around 2:46 you can see the guy in red accidentally land on a ball. He then throws it aside and, JUST before it lands, it vanishes. This is probably bc he and the ball and the seats etc. are only one layer of many here. The pile of balls (which MUST have moved between takes) is another layer that is playing ON TOP OF the video of him throwing the ball. So basically, the video in front covered up the ball about one frame too early. (If u spotted that u might want to go into video editing lol) But I only noticed that one imperfection in this edit, and I only spotted it cuz I’ve been editing video for 14 years!
Yeah serious kudos for the editing (and camera work too). It was really tough to find the cuts. I saw one at 1:45 where if you watch the uniform on the attendant on the left, you see a dissolve on her clothing. But yeah, amazing work.
@@zacharytorroni their is a cut every 21 seconds, because that is how much zero g they could get, then they would have 45 minutes to get back up for another drop. They talked about it in the behind the scenes video. Even better, cuts are the only edit. No special effects, no layers, just cuts and maybe some color work.
Behold, the masters of the music video. These guys have nailed it pretty much every time. Their songs are good, but their videos are incredible. All those bands whose videos are just recording themselves lip-syncing their own song in front of a green screen need to take notes.
Just finding this video...this reminds me of Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer, done in live-action...which is, of course, one of the highest compliments one can give. So cool...and I appreciate it more after watching a few of the BTS videos. wow...
Props to Andy at 2:29 for powering through that pinata to make sure it exploded open on cue. You're the man, Andy! (Dan, you did okay too) (Also at 3:08 for throwing that suitcase out of the way to get back into his seat)
The amazing thing is that they had to time this to not only the music but the parabolic arcs. You can see the parts where the plane started climbing again. They had to quickly get into a seat or a standing position to prepare for what I assume is a 1+ G maneuver.
No, it's not cut, it's 1 take. Except for the last scene. That they had to redo because of paint on the lense. It looks cut because they sit still and speed up time in between the loops.
My science teacher showed this to me and my class and holy crap this is amazing. The music and the video are just perfect. If I remember correctly my science teacher either knew someone in this video or knew someone who knew someone in this video.

Molly Westerback maybe your son shouldn't be on UA-cam then! Almost everyone swears in their videos nowadays!
You're lucky actually, you get a plethora of amazing videos to see for the first time unlike the people like me who have to wait a year for a new music video
@@Yumpop82 the onus is on you to protect your children from the world, not on the world to change for the sake of your son. Also, that was the most harmless form of cussing.

1:12 Look at the stewardess on the right. I fucking love her cheesy ass smile. That was all i needed for this video. Thank you.
There are so much people here that apparently didn't know how amazing OKGO's videos are...
That's quite all right. We'll always have room for more inductees into the vast reaches of OK Go fandom! :)

In other news: OK Go has been added to the no-fly list.
No wires, No green screen, but plenty of computing power was used to stich those 8 zero-g parabolic arcs together to make the transitions look seamless. A lot of hard work went into this in the form of planning, choreography, timing, lots of practice and execution.
The time stamps for the start of each zero-g period are:
#1: 0:23
#2: 0:45
#3: 1:04
#4: 1:25
#5: 1:46
#6: 2:07
#7: 2:26
#8: 2:47
I dont think there were any cuts. the way these zero-g planes work is that they basically go up (gravity) and then go into freefall (zero-g) and rinse and repeat throughout the video
@@tealsquid7205 Well done. 👏
@@yokikokudou i think the part with the flight attendant standing and leaning are sped up.
@@GeorgeAndLennyGaming there are definitely cuts. The plane can only fly zero-g for a short period of time. If you pay attention, you can see where they put them in.
My physics teacher showed us this in my junior year of high school, seriously one of the nicest teachers. That was 3 years ago. Still love this song.
Flight attendant's husband: "What'd you to today?"
Flight attendant: "Oh you know, just normal flight attendant stuff, formed an double ouroboros with a colleague." 2:34

How the hell is this from 7 years ago & only come to my feed now - WHAAAAT!! Frikken insane - give them all Grammys, crew included.
Okay... how have I not seen this for 5 YEARS..... THIS IS TOOOOO GOOOD

...Go??
Have you NOT seen Wuotimath videos?
why is this so underrated?
i am so grateful that some time six years ago i discovered this music video by accident and then by consequence - one of the greatest bands ever. a completely different person now, my love for OKGO has remained the same. no one else has ever done it even close to comparison. thank you for the monumental effect you've had on my life :)
0:42 there's something about that guy pulling him back into his seat that is something because something.
even I paused it, replayed it. there's something
it looks unnatural ... maybe there was a bit of editing
They slow the video down for half a second. They speed the video up or down all through the video.
They apparently had to mess with the timing of things since the plane
can only do the zero-g thing for about 27 seconds at a time - so every
time you see a "reset" like that they had to stop for a second and then
they spliced it all together after (if you search the making of the page
on the OK Go website explains it much better than I just did)
Bryan Ch
Your psychology teacher?
what does psychology have to do with that lol
Björn Sundin What other class besides psychology has the free time to watch UA-cam videos?
Free falling doesn't "mimic" zero gravity. There is really no difference between the Physics of this and the weightlessnes you would experience, say, aboard the ISS. A Spaceship in Orbit is, after all, just freefalling around Earth.
Styromable 3
I love how with the flight attendant’s ballet they took advantage of the principle of angular momentum. I’ve seen physics teachers spinning on swivel chairs but I have never seen in just in the air before!
At this rate, If Ok Go shows a dragon with wings and fire breath, and said it was real, I'd believe because all their videos are... incredibly magical.
Altangerel Bookzer you literally had me laughing out loud. Thank you.
Not only one of the best music videos in existence, but one BANGER of a song!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
3:13 "Yeah! Whoo!"
I'll give OK Go this much:
I don't listen to their songs (I prefer orchestral, sometimes with vocals), but their do-it-in-one-take music videos _are_ entertaining. Whoever their producer/director was on this one faced a real challenge playing around with a shifting-gravity environment, no doubts there!
Actually, this was shot in multiple takes! They were interviewed on CNN!
+NailGames takes*
+NailGames
Oh? I watched it three times now, and there's only one time (a yellow suitcase, 2:03 ) where the camera is completely blocked enough to slip in a cut.
+EVA_Unit_4A
sorry about the length...
so it's actually really cool how they did it.
Randallpw
I saw one of their other "one-take" videos (I don't remember which one, they were in Japan and use a drone camera), and the behind-the-scenes showed that it was filmed much slower than the final video.
Facebook video has robbed you guys of Millions of views :(
+bluetextbooks It's their own video
+bluetextbooks Yeah they posted it there first dude
+bluetextbooks I'm pretty sure they posted it there first with the intent of it getting more viral and gaining more ad revenue
They were in collaboration with Facebook, and they posted there themselves, so all the royalties belong to them. :)
Unlike those stupid pages on Facebook who re-uploads videos made by UA-cam creators and steals all the revenue the creators deserve
I'm pretty sure the biggest chunk of their budget came from advertising S7 Airlines, and they can get them more views on facebook.
At the end: Jeff, we saw you pushing the Pinata (2:18). Clean everything and try again! :3
+cam cam dude but actually? that last bit w the balloons took 8 takes, they have a behind the scenes video on their channel and its really cool to watch
+Hubert Maliszewski yeah, the second to last take only failed because paint got on the lens
+Hubert Maliszewski what video is that? I think I saw all the videos but I can't seem to catch anything where they say anything about the last scene.
+joemon321 Look for OK Go Thunderdome

The knack to flying lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground, and miss.
Holy crap these guys make the best friggin' music videos ever.
Thing is I also really like their music...but the videos take the cake.
I wonder how many it took before they got the perfect take?

my music teacher showed this to us during some spare time. it’s been my favorite video ever since.
r.i.p. mr fleetwood 😔
(If u spotted that u might want to go into video editing lol)
But I only noticed that one imperfection in this edit, and I only spotted it cuz I’ve been editing video for 14 years!
Yeah serious kudos for the editing (and camera work too). It was really tough to find the cuts. I saw one at 1:45 where if you watch the uniform on the attendant on the left, you see a dissolve on her clothing. But yeah, amazing work.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin There's only one cut in the video it is at 2:46, the rest is a single take
@@zacharytorroni their is a cut every 21 seconds, because that is how much zero g they could get, then they would have 45 minutes to get back up for another drop.

So cool...and I appreciate it more after watching a few of the BTS videos. wow...

Impressed by how well they move in free fall.
The amazing thing is that they had to time this to not only the music but the parabolic arcs.
You can see the parts where the plane started climbing again. They had to quickly get into a seat or a standing position to prepare for what I assume is a 1+ G maneuver.
2+ Gs actually
robotguy4 If they had done this with only one parabolic arc (let's assume), they would have fallen for about 160km

They did this 8 times!
To me it looks like the final video was edit of 7 semi independent cuts. With last 2 being the hardest, and needed to be from the same sequential try.
No, it's not cut, it's 1 take. Except for the last scene. That they had to redo because of paint on the lense.
It looks cut because they sit still and speed up time in between the loops.
