This video helped me decide to medicate my 16 gallon tank with Ich X rather than moving one affected fish to a hospital tank, causing it more stress. Fungal spots visible on just one fish may mean that the entire tank is affected. I will move sick fish out of my planted tank only if I decide to treat it with aquarium salt. Thank you for this comprehensive guide.
Thanks Cory! Out of all the million billion things we have learned over the past few years, this was very enlightening. You are freaking awesome! Have a nice Thanksgiving!
This is what happened to me. I ordered 6 neon blue dwarf gouramis online. I put them in a quarantine tank - they were active, eating well, no spots, so I didn’t add any meds. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed the water was cloudy. I checked parameters, everything was 0 ppm, pH was 6.4. I did a WC sooner than normal, and it cleared up. Yesterday I did a WC - today, the water was cloudy and one of them was dead. I took it out immediately, checked parameters, everything was still 0ppm, pH was still 6.4. I did a WC, removed the charcoal bag, and dosed with Maracyn. I was thinking about moving them to the big tank this weekend - glad this happened before I did that, rather than after! So keeping new fish quarantined a longer time rather than a shorter time is not being excessively paranoid. It’s necessary to be sure you don’t kill all the fish in your main tank. The remaining gouramis seem to be doing well, but I can’t risk any chance they are infected with something. I really want them in a bigger tank because they’re starting to chase each other - my main tank is 55g and has more plants and driftwood than the 20g quarantine tank, giving the more space. I’m not experienced enough to tell males from females, so it could be a territorial thing, but I’m keeping them isolated for at least another month.
I need your help/advice please. I have 5 gallons tank with 4 glowlight tetra. One tetra has white "eyebrows" bulging only at the top of eyelids (looking like a mini beluga whale with white "eyebrows"). I did a 25% water change, removed carbon filter and replace with sponge bonded filter pad...then added 1 packet of maracyn into 1/2 cup water and 2.5ml of Ich-X. Today is day one. Questions: Am I treating that ailment accurately? If so, do I dose all the same each day? Do I change 25% water each day for the treatment daily? Or do I dose just once and see how it goes? Lastly, when do I feed fish again next? Thank you so much for your help.
Thanks for this useful information! I’ve had my 125 for 4 months now with geos, severums, and acara. Few days ago my acaras have ich. Ordered some ich x from you folks , but I have been treating with salt and higher temp in the meantime. Hopefully they pull through
When you say one dose of the paracleanse (in case of worms) do you just literally dose once at the beginning of the week, or do you do whats on the instructions and give a second packet on the 3rd day then repeat the process two weeks later?
Will these meds harm plants or beneficial bacteria? I'm starting a new 29 gallon tank, and I'm getting the plants going before introducing fish. Once I introduce fish, if I need to use these meds, will my plants be okay?
Very helpful information! The information on the use of ParaClens during the quarantine period on healthy, appearing fish is especially helpful. I have been wondering if it would be good to treat asymptomatic fish for parasites during the quarantine period, and you explained exactly how to do it!
So glad to find out that you’re super close to me. I live in Renton. I love your videos and am very trusting of your methods and video content. I will definitely be making a trip to visit you before I set up my planted 40 gal breeder community tank.
@@AquariumCoop once you’ve put media from an established tank into a quarantine tank, do you throw it away after being used? I assume putting it back into the established tank to repopulate with beneficial bacteria will possibly infect the established tank, thus being counterproductive?
I’m in Canada, so my (legal) options are more limited. Most of the pet store guppies I have bought succumbed to columnaris or camallanus worms within a week. Fritz Paracleanse & malachite green treatment wasn’t able to save them, and I wonder if it only hastened their demise. Fortunately, the guppies I got from another hobbyist are doing well. But I want to add more genes to the colony, so I tried my luck and purchased another pair from a local pet store. They’re quarantined now. I am wondering if it would be less stressful if one were to space out treatments so that I’m not hitting them with dewormer at the same time as malachite green? I’m inclined to just use dewormer and aquarium salt in the quarantine tank, and just monitor them. I welcome people’s thoughts, just bear in mind I can’t purchase levamisole, fenbendazole, or Erythromycin here.
It definitely needs to be said over and over about passive (observation with meds in the water) and active treatment (follow the instructions on the box!!!). There are great blog articles about how to treat specific diseases and recommended methods for each individual med.
I use ick X in all water for my bioactive gecko terrarium. It goes in the gecko's water in its food , to mist it to feed the feeder insects to water the plants. It seems to help keep off the mold and smell
I have pregnant female guppies that I'm quarantining. Is it safe for them? Also, if I put one of each of the medicines into the water then do I do a water change? Says to do a water change after 5 days on one of the medicines and 6 days on the other. If they look okay after 2 weeks from the start of the medicine can I put them in the big tank? One of the guppies doesn't seem to be moving as rhythmically and quickly as the other ones. I just brought them home a couple of hours ago and they did eat.
So your fishes in your display tanks have all been pre-quarantined so that if I buy your fish, I don't need to quarantine them at home again right? That would save a hobbyist like me tons of time!
I have a neon tetra who has some kind of tumor on the front of its mouth. I treated it with all the available meds, as I thought it might be ich or velvet or some fungal or bacterial disease. No other fish had any issues. The fish in question has lived this way for several months now and eats and behaves normal. My neon tetras tend to be sort of fin nippers and bullies, so this fish gets picked on sometimes.
I heard Cory talk about rainbow fish getting tumors from tuberculosis they’re fine but can be highly contagious to other fish. Probably not that but it’s a possibility
I spoke with Hikari and they said you can’t use ICH-X with dechlorinators such as Prime. Any idea what can be used instead? They suggested something else they make but it’s impossible to find around me
I have yo-Yo loches in quarantine. They went through the 5 days of para cleanse and now I gave them one teaspoon of ick-X and one packet of maracyn because of what Irene said she does. It's a 10 gallon tub. Someone just said that it is dangerous for loaches and that I should have only given half a dose? Have you had any experience with giving full strength to loaches and having an issue? I'm worried now and don't know whether to do a 50% water change? I just gave it to them yesterday so I was supposed to wait a week before doing a water change but obviously if it's going to hurt them I need to do it. Please help!
@@AquariumCoop thanks so much! So, I don't see any ick on them I'm just treating prophylactically. Do you think it's best to just let them sit in it for a week and observe them before putting them in my community tank?
I don’t think we can get Maracyn in Canada. We can get Maracyn Oxy, but it doesn’t contain an antibiotic. Generally the consumer can’t go out and buy products with antibiotics as the active ingredient. So things like Columnaris seem to be a death sentence. We can try putting guppies into salted hospital tanks, but I’ve never had success with Columnaris that way. 😢
i made a very stupid mistake, and i bought one fish to my established and healthy 20-gallon. it had something and all but 2 fish were killed. no symptoms at all except all fish went directly into hiding, extremely skittish, and instant death. Has anyone ever heard of this before? recommendations?
I am unsure if I’m currently fighting ich or epistylis. Should I them treat the whole tank with the med trio? I’m only using ich x for now but it’s stubborn
These medications are only available via vet prescription in Canada, so even if we did ship directly to Canada, we could not legally offer these meds to Canadian customers. We do have a retail partner in Canada, where you can purchase our other products, though: aprilsaquarium.ca/
We don't use or sell Maracyn 2. Maracyn one gets the job done and often I see people get confused and by maracyn 2 and not solve the problem so we don't stock it.
Ok I'm a new hobbyist and I thought because of you tube videos that you're supposed to remove the one fish and put it in a quarantine tank and treat the fish. Because I'm new to this I probably wouldn't know what is wrong unless it had white spots. This is what I fear. The unknown.😢

Thank you Cory !!
For all the great knowledge you share with us. 😊
New to fish hobby, this guy seems very knowledgeable. Love this channel, my favorite when looking for info!
Very comprehensive, thank you for all you do....all you do is HUGE❤
Great information 😊 I use ich x and aquarium salt, who remembers when Cory had those aquarium coop ice scrapers
I've been treating my new Betta with Paracleanse. I start the third round of treatment tomorrow. Someone on the forum has been helping me out.
9:11 that BGM timing 😚👌🏻
What is a safe water conditioner to use with these medicines? Or what do you recommend? Great channel!!

Hello,
When you treat your tanks with medications, doesn't this affect the biological system?
Thanks in advance

Great video! Would it be safe to keep CO2 running in a planted tank while dosing the medtrio?
I haven't noticed anything go wrong while dosing co2 while using the med trio at the store.

I would definitely not use Seachem Prime water conditioner with Ich-X because according to the manufacturer, it would cause a bad reaction.
I’ve been doing it for 15 years without problem. I believe it to be just a sales tactic.
