- Опубліковано 9 чер 2024
- The most terrifying and unyielding gimmick to date.
They say cats have nine lives, but each Liepard gets thirty-two. Let’s discuss how a National Dex AG team is built around this niche interaction between Revival Blessing and Assist.

Pin the replays before we lose them in the comments! Great stuff like this should be kept safe
Edit: Holy moly
"where is the Trubbush counter play" is a sentence I never thought I'd hear in my life
it sounds like they almost lost it after saying that insane sentence lmao
@@budgetcommander4849l the fuck do you mean they?
Forget 1 Million Lions Vs. All of Pokemon, the new thought experiment is 1 Million Liepards Vs. a Bag of Trash
Trubbish is an example of great design (by accident). ideally, every Pokemon should have SOME niche in the wider metagame in my opinion. Glad Trubbish does.
I like how you can slightly hear a break in character at 12:28 lol
Liepard casually carrying on the spirit of funbro
Lol
I love that you can hear the smile in Elo's voice when the topic of counterplay comes up, like he knows how deep of a rabbit hole he went down headfirst and he cant wait to tell us all what he found down there
GIMMICKS ARE BACK
I get the impression if these two moves ever exist at the same time, Revival Blessing will be added to the list of moves Assist can't call. I hope the devs would catch that, at least.
Same. They really should just look at the Copycat list and if a move is on there (which I think Revival Blessing IS), take it out of assist pool.
"BUT WE DON'T KNOW IF THE ACTUAL DEVS WOULD DO THAT!" Those two lists were basically the same when Assist was there. I hate hate people use that excuse.
Yes, this strategy is very clearly a bug in the _specification_ of the National Dex fangame. It doesn't make sense to use an unused and unmaintained list as the definitive answer of what moves Assist can call, but they did so anyway.
@@MrCheeze I already proposed to the rest of the council that we change the way assist works in NatDex so that it can no longer call new moves introduced starting from gen 8 onwards as this was the generation in which assist itself was removed from the game. Hopefully we will have that implemented in the future
maybe but apperantly there is code that assist is valid to call revival blessing so unless there is a clause later on or gamefreak releases assist then we never know for 100%... and i bet if a clause comes out people will come and riot, complain, etc "smogon bad"
Instead, they did the clown move and killed the metagame, kek
4:04 anyone else just die laughing when they realized the wincon of this team is just PP Stalling? 💀
it’s always liepard that pulls off BS like this lmao
Liepard is the horse cat of the apocalypse, if liepard is meta your meta is chaos
Liepard is a chassis.
Take a cat, give it Assist. You have a gimmick cat.
Liepard is simply the best cat to hollow out and pack like a pinata full of the tasty, tasty Assist cheese Game Freak hasn't patched out yet
@@Natibe_ as someone who mostly plays Nat Dex AG, can confirm, meta is chaos.
Liepard is kind of a goof, a scallywag. A prankster, one could say. Perhaps even a scoundrel
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 Prankster is also a key factor, to ensure assist can be called before anyone else can intercept. But technically Game Freak already patched out assist cheese, since it's no longer usable since gen 8.
At this point, I'd consider it entirely fair for the Assist pool to be manually maintained specifically for moves introduced in gen8+, as the move interactions are technically undefined.
Literally making cats have 9 lives canon in Pokemon lol
More like 32 lives per cat
RIP National Dex AG, you might be missed.
honestly no
the most it brought to the table is shedinja getting its chance to shine and obliterate everything
It was honestly my favorite format. Loved tearing things up sometimes with relatively shit Pokémon.
this watches like a group of scientists giving a presentation on the enemies capabilities to the military in like some cheesy 80s kaiju movie. awesome stuff.
The very first thought I had when I saw revival blessing was "Oh god it's gonna be divecats all over again"
Sure enough
Schroedinger must've cooked this one up.
I totally expected the teambuilding segment with 5 cats/4 cats/3 cats/2 cats to continue until there were no cats left, and then replace Smeargle since Revival Blessing with only 1 PP isn't worth a whole 'mon, lol.
theoretical revive cats counters. these are just some ideas that i haven't tested yet, there may be ways that revive cats teams can counter these but on paper they seem like decent alternative options:
- Calm Mind Triage Comfey could potentially sweep a Revive Cats team with +3 priority Draining Kiss and Giga Drain. Comfey's innate Fairy typing makes it immune to Dragon Tail. Though Draining Kiss makes contact, it is super effective on Dark and neutral on Ghost. You could tera Steel to get around Baneful Bunker poison and wall Ditto, and the healing from your drain moves can help deal with Rocky Helmet chip. For the final move, you could run Worry Seed to deal with Shedinja, Aromatherapy/Heal Bell to deal with status, HP Steel/Poison for Tapu Lele, or Substitute as added insurance.
- Choice Scarf Neutralizing Gas Weezing/Weezing-Galar. With Strange Steam, max SpAtk EVs, and a Modest nature, it has an 18.8% chance to OHKO max HP max SpDef Liepard (likely to KO since the suggested revive cat sets rarely invest SpDef; stealth rocks or spikes can help make this consistent) with Strange Steam, and with speed investment and scarf it outspeeds any Liepard without at least 200 speed EVs and +Speed nature due to Prankster being disabled by Neutralizing Gas. You could sacrifice extra damage for extra speed by changing the nature to Timid instead, letting you consistently outspeed Liepard. It can also run Dark Pulse to deal with tera Ghost, and Flamethrower to deal with tera Steel. As a final move, it could run Toxic Spikes to get hazards in if nothing else. Probably the weakest idea, but it's kinda funny.
- Imprison Hypno/Meowstic-M with Assist. Prevents Assist from being called once Imprison is used, so it's a surefire way to shut down the strategy. Opposing Ditto can't do anything to stop you from clicking Imprison unless the opponent predicts you switching into it. Meowstic-M has Prankster which can be useful for stopping the strat before they can use it at all. Hypno has Thief to render opposing Liepard helpless, Night Shade to deal with Shedinja, Metronome to prevent it from being called, and Taunt to screw over Rabsca. Both have access to a strong-enough Psychic to mess up Pawmot if it thinks about switching in, as well as Trick to prevent them from being crippled by opposing Trick users. Tera Fairy can help deal with Dragon Tail; Tera Ghost can help against Circle Throw; Tera Steel can help against poison and improve resistances. Who knew Hypno could actually have a niche?
honorable mention:
- Imprison Transform Mew could turn into Liepard to prevent Liepard from using Revival Blessing, but can be countered by switching out of Liepard and forcing Mew out.
I kept b3ing against 5 revive cats so i just used a normal weezing with choice scarf and frustration, as you may guess, i was frustrated
I run tape lele to counter priority, so your first method has counterplay. I also run meowstics, not liepards, which have considerably more bulk, and also learn dig, which could theoretically eventually deal wifh choice scarf weezing. I also run focus band on my meowstic instead of bright powder, so eventually the weezing would be deafeated. Otherwise though, these are fairly solid.
As a tcg player this feels like an expanded format's control deck profile. Really cool showcase of the team archetype
This has to be the most troll AG meta ever and its glorious
I’ve heard about using beak blast smeargle to burn e-speed users, which is a guaranteed burn. Love the vid :)
And the people cried out: Where is the Trubish counter play? And the people's cries were answered.
RIP the Natdex AG ladder, I'll never forget when I got to 2063 elo with revive cats, fun times lol
Btw choice scarf on Smeargle is actually pretty good, it lets you trick an Arceus or Chien-pao who are about to swords dance as well as cripple stall teams, transform is also a very helpful move for the latter.
I actually managed to make a set that can actually beat opposing revive cat teams by using klutz + trick assault vest Golurk, although it requires cooperation from your opponent as you need to land the trick on ditto. From there you switch into something that blocks the ditto from tricking it back to you such as a z-move user, and from then on you can pp stall then as ditto will no longer be able to use assist. It's actually surprisingly practical as it cripples stall and gives you another way to pp stall e-speed, and it actually won me a mirror match once (by which I mean they forfeited at turn 500, because tbh I think it would've gone to turn 1000 anyway despite my advantage lol).
Fun? Was just clicking assist over and over and switching to giratina on an extreme speeder fun?
@@elco-coisoriginal you're talking to someone who at some point enjoyed running solo Numel for 300 matches until I got a win, don't question my notion of fun

Revive Cats literally got Natdex AG banned LMFAO
Gotta add unnerve to the Trubbish counterplay. Not sure how many relevant mons aside from Calyrex but its the simplest counter to recycle stalling like that I can think of.
Bro this shit is so much worse in shared power.
Because you can keep your abilities between pokemon you can get harvest and have all your mons run leppa berry so they just keep getting the pp back.
I fought this once and it drove me insane
Trubbish is my favorite Pokemon, glad he has a niche
thank you for being humble, respectful, and for enunciating; unlike some other pokémon youtubers 👍
Well, glad those teams used one revival blessing on Elo Bandit
Out of all the gimmicks I've seen on showdown, nothing has made me droan more than this one. Still, good video going over this and merry christmas.
amazing! my favorite part was definitely the trubbish feature too, such a cool tech
Couldn't 2 Dittos infinitely stall against trubbish (can rest infinitely) More counterplay for that I suppose.
You eventually crit them since Steel Tera isn’t copied.
@Elo Bandit It would require a lot of crits since you'd need at least one every revive and I'm skeptical it doesn't happen before turn 1000.
Merry Christmas to us.
Absolutely loved this series! Glad you brought it back this is sick
Cant wait to see more gimmicks for this gen
This was really fun! Thanks for the good ideas :O
I'm happy Liepard's found a way to sneak into the meta! I've heard it wasn't worth too much competitively before the Prankster gimmicks turned around, but I'm using it as a mixed attacker in my blind White 2 playthrough and it's a ton of fun!
Next episode should be tera bug roaring moon
lmfao
The King has returned with more top tier content
Video description is so golden
missed opportunity to put the leftovers in giratina's mouth but this video was fun to watch and interesting
Excellent research on Revive Cats, this is so funny to watch
However, I have found my own counter to revive cats, though more situational than something as ubiquitous as espeed ray/arceus
Water Shuriken Greninja provides an interesting opportunity, as it's not only special priority, it's special priority that can be as strong as espeed using Loaded Dice
Passing him special attack boosts or setting up (if he has the moveset to do so) is optimal to OHKO, as you need +2 to cleanly OHKO a cat (+4 if this became popular enough to go max spdef), but you have a few advantages. One of them was going to be Battle Bond, but this is the same generation that destroyed Ash-Greninja, so back to the drawing board. You do have a mon that's faster than a Liepard with little EV investment, with a 32pp priority move, can't be blocked by Tera Ghost, unable to be stalled out by Helmet/Bunker, and (changed) Battle Bond can still help you to finish out a game should you run into the Tapu Koko/Rayquaza matchup. In addition, while Loaded Dice is niche and you lose the opportunity to use LO/Scarf/Specs instead, you do better against the Ditto matchup since Scarf Ditto can lose the dice roll while you can't.
However, Trubbish is the funniest possible counter you could've thought of and I applaud it
Always the best quality content.
Trubbish is not a counter to revive cats, it can potentially lose to Ditto if it gets crit twice in a row and gets walled by any team with 1 poison immunity + Ditto or 2+ poison immunities, not to mention you are using a Trubbish in a tier where most opponents have 6 legendaries or 5 legendaries + shedinja, it's too much opportunity cost
I'd also like to mention terafairy on shedinja, you have 2 weaknesses compared to electric and normal only having one, but poison and steel moves are a lot less common in NDAG, the only poison moves you'll see will be from Eternatus and maybe Darkrai and Marshadow, the only steel moves are Zacian-Crowned's BBlade and Koraidon's Iron head (and NDM's Sunsteel Strike but that kills shedinja no matter the tera type), Fighting and Ground moves are seen all the time on Koraidon, Marshadow, Zacian-Crowned and Primal Groudon, Mega Rayquaza, EKiller Arceus, NDM, NUltra, Zygarde respectively
You make a good point about Ditto crits, so I would revise the Trubbish Tera type to Steel in order to properly wall it.
Other steel types eventually struggle to death vs infinite pp Trubbish
You are correct that running Trubbish is a large opportunity cost and that fairy Tera shedinja is a viable priority wall.
@UCwphlFRK8-or4oQ4rTlQT1w Ah I see. Yes, endlessly switching with Steel-types draws the match if you don't have hazards on the Trubbish team. You would need Thief or similar over Gunk to break Skarmory + Tera Steel Giratina Revival Blessing stall for example.
Ironically, there is one move that would just shut Revival cats down, Imprison. On a Smeargle, it could be put together with Assist, Copycat and thief to just 0 all the cats' moves sans Endure, with no time limit on the effect. Imprison would remain in effect until Smeargle was KO'ed or switched out, since the Imprison effect cannot be Baton Passed. It would also shut down ditto, since all of ditto's moves would be shut down upon swapping in due to Impostor giving it all of Smeargles moves. I am honestly shocked no one thought of that move :D
Youre uploading again? How did i miss this for a month?!?! I love you so much mane :)
Thank you for this blessing.
Very in depth and informative, nice
"Five cats gameplay is somewhat repetitive" well you don't say
ik this was a year ago, but trubbish is now obsolete thanks to hydrapple who also has curse, rest(or recover), recycle, and sticky hold
Smeargle is also no longer a legal Revival Blessing donor, thanks to it being confirmed unsketchable.

Yo, ive wanted to watch a series like this
Why is it that every time there’s a Pokémon gimmick, Liepard’s always in the middle of it?
There aren’t any assist users currently in Gen 9, so I can only imagine that if/when they’re added with home/dlc Revival Blessing will be on the list of moves unable to be called.
Merry Christmas
merry christmas
Hydrapple and Dipplin can be alternatives to Trubbish since they also have Sticky Hold and Recycle
This is peak silliness
I fought someone who use this strategy. They had 5 mons with assist (one being smeargle) and a ditto. The team was not even good, it was just annoying. I end up with a 5-0 against that person twice in Nat Dex OU before it was banned
imagine you actually go against one of the checks or counters
Holy shit bro you're alive
it's a christmas miracle
I like your funny words, magic man.
i forgot how does this not count against the endless battle clause again
I was hoping you would come back with all the broken stuff in gen 9
Someone at Game Freak should undexit Assist and/or give Meowstick Imprison. Would be sick.
Assist is already no longer usable since Gen 8.
@@sinteleon Yes, I'm saying it should be added back in so they can update it to not be able to cast Revival Blessing. Either that or give Meowstick Imprison to prevent Assist from being used in NatDex.
It's unlikely but would be nice is what I'm saying 😭
What about protective pads extreme speed sword dance arceus ghost?
@EloBandit, how is this a gimmick when it's consistent enough to go 55-0 on the ladder?
Because it’s not hard to counter if you’re expecting to play against it. Stacking priority attackers or using a niche Pokémon like Trubbish, Weezing-G, or Comfey shuts it down completely.
@@EloBandit That argument doesn't make sense, because there is no such thing as a Pokémon team that cannot be easily countered if you're expecting to play against it. For example, the best stall team in USUM Anything Goes can be easily countered by a Substitute + Hone Claws Zekrom, but no one uses Substitute + Hone Claws Zekrom in that tier, because Substitute + Hone Claws Zekrom is bad against the vast majority of the teams that see usage on that ladder. Similarly, using a team that includes something that counters the Assist + Revival Blessing strategy means using a team that is at a huge disadvantage (it's usually a 5 VS. 6 matchup) when it ISN'T facing an Assist + Revival Blessing stall team, which would mean disaster if you ladder with a team that counters the Assist + Revival Blessing strategy only to run into someone who ISN'T using said strategy. Meanwhile, the same thing cannot be said about the vast majority of other teams (especially hyper offense), which have a much, much higher chance of losing even if they're NOT facing teams designed specifically to counter them.
Also, for your information, Comfey is easily countered by Whirlwind Ho-Oh.
Can't Trubbish's Recycle be effectively disabled by Tricking it an item *after* Leppa Berry is consumed, and before it has a chance to use Recycle?
sticky hold blocks trick
It’s a clever thought but Trick always fails against Sticky Hold even if there is no current held item
@@EloBandit does bestow also fail?

Good video, I personally think you would be better off showing more than telling though. Like you don't NEED to go through every scenario, just a brief rundown on the strat and on to the battles. But like I said good video.
TRUBBISH LMAOOO 😭😭 THIS VIDEO SLAPS
is there no consistent way to ohko trubbish?
I'm surprised Smogon implemented revival blessing as a move assist/copycat can call?
The amount of times these moves have caused issues you'd think someone would have caught this.
*meme about stopping to think if they should*
Two ancient legendary dragons are options for countering a bag of garbage.
They don't get many unassistable moves or thief/switcheroo. I can see a freeze shock Kyurem being used to shut down Trubbish... and more importantly Hydrapple which has the funbro tools.
But like seriously who tf decided that revival blessing was a balanced move 😂
It is. It's one revive per battle, not even a max revive, that is only given to two relatively weak and slow Pokémon. The only problem is that Assist works with it, which it shouldn't.
@@PoisonFlower765 Or rather, that assist shouldn't even be a legal move, since it was disabled since gen 8. GF is not responsible for balancing two moves that isn't available together.
Necrocats
Idk I'd rather honestly try to see how good a potential 350BP priority last respects is with Liepard instead of R.Blessing.

*Why is assist still like this*
Hard to tell if you were kidding or not with that Trubbish suggestion, but it seems flat-out useless against more well-rounded cats teams.
Any Shedinja that doesn't purposefully tera into fairy walls Trubbish. This can be combined with any tera-steel on the team (probably Tapu Lele or Giratina, but you could also chuck it on some other mon like Smeargle or Pawmot) for a guaranteed draw through switching, but the cats player doesn't even need to do that. Unboosted dig by itself risks 70-83% on the crit. Curse can be mimic'd, if tera'd, to boost the Shedinja up, where even one boost is enough for a crit to OHKO. Most damningly, curse can be mimic'd pre-tera, making it impossible for Trubbish to Recycle, leading to an eventual guaranteed death. (Rest to heal to full, curse tick 1, sleep turn 1, curse tick 2, sleep turn 2, curse tick 3, awake, forced to rest again or immediately die to curse tick 4). On Shedinja-less teams, this could also be accomplished with a tera-ghost Ditto.
Even if you carefully pick your health EVs to minimise damage from curse, that still has Trubbish dying if any attack is used in those four turns.
If this was a joke meant to make matches for me easier, I wish it worked better since I haven't seen any Trubbishes out in the wild :P
Mimic Shedinja plus a Steel type or Steel tera does do well against Trubbish. Here are a couple of slightly better options against Cats:

Ability: Neutralizing Gas
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 8 HP / 40 Def / 252 SpA / 208 Spe

liepard counter (Comfey) @ Life Orb
Ability: Triage
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 72 HP / 28 Def / 252 SpA / 156 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draining Kiss
- Calm Mind

- Leech Seed
@@EloBandit Good suggestions, while they have their issues (Tapu Lele tanks a hit then one-shots Koffing, and makes Comfey unable to do anything better than leech seed for 8 turns) I'd expect them to beat a lot more teams than Trubbish.
Anything that doesn’t take super effective damage from fairy needs to be chipped down first, yes.
Defog on Comfey removes Psychic Terrain so it can triage sweep.
