real quick about 24:06, phantom force actually functions like feint, where it will not only hit through protect, but lifts the effects of it. not a lot of people know about this, and while i've experimented with it on power herb ceruledge, i think it has interesting applications with brambleghast, as usually its accompanied with tailwind, of which people will use protect to stall out
In Game 2, could you use Doodle while the other Pokemon switches? You swap Slaking out for Tyranitar, use Doodle, which switches out Slaking, sets up sand, then gives Tyranitar Unaware right after
@@poopdealer7039 doodle would also fail against Dark types specifically because the Grafaiai used in this video is a Prankster one and Prankster modified moves fail when the target is a Dark type
@@poopdealer7039 This is mostly true, but it's usually the form-changing abilities that can't be swapped or copied. Some signature abilities can still be Doodled, like Gale Wings, Mycelium Might, and Dancer.
I have yet to get a Slaking in the game and seeing it move around in the open world in the video has me grateful that it has its ability. Seeing that thing stampeding around is nuts.
I've been struggling in Pokéball Tier 5 with my own, slightly different Grafaiai team and was so happy to see this video go live. I've been at work all day but I just got to play a match and finally made it into Tier 6 with your team and I'm so happy you built a team around this awesome little primate. You've definitely given me some ideas about tweaks I can make to my own team! Thanks for the awesome content, I love how creative you are in making off-meta picks do serious work!
Yay I had the same idea with both slaking and toedscruel but never built the teams. glad to see them being demonstrated! Sucks that the speed order for toedscruel doesn’t work the same turn
I believe you can blame Quick Claw and Custap Berry for that; their effect can only be rolled once per turn, and the simplest way to achieve that is to only calculate all first/last within priority bracket effects once per turn. This also affects e.g. Trick with Lagging Tail or Full Incense.
Awesome battles, I really like how you explain what's going on in especially the abilities of the Pokemon as someone who doesn't play competitive but is interested in watching it makes your videos more exciting to watch since other content creators react too more than explain their battles
I like how you make gimmicky strats but you're up front about how you hand pick matches where it works, unlike some people who just claim their gimmick will work all the time
grafaiai is a new fav of mine and funnily enough I named my grafaiai doodles when I caught him as a shroodle. I did not know it would learn doodle lol I mainly have it on my team as a support, poisoning the enemy (poison touch, poison jab, gunk shot) and building up attack stat boosts for my physical damage dealers (sword dance, baton pass)
Oh woah I’m surprised I’m here so early and curious to see what you do with him. My roommate has a Prankster doodle Grafaiai that is an absolute *menace* to deal with and repeatedly neutered my ace Toxtricity
Because the opponent didn’t know it had facade yet, by the time the slaking used facade for the first time, skeledirge already clicked will-o-wisp already during the same turn sequence it was used
People often forget what moves do because memorization is hard, especially for moves that aren't often utilized. Skaking just became meta and most other Pokémon don't run Facade, so the opponent either forgot or weren't prepared for it. I still often forget Shadow Ball can drop Sp. Defense, and I've seen many people attempt to use Shadow Sneak, Sucker Punch, Quash, and the like while my Armor Tail Farigiraf is on the field. Even if Armor Tail has already activated in the battle sometimes.
Happy new year ! 🎉 I’ve been waiting for someone to break down doodle and it’s in game mechanics. The main issue I’ve come across is going against double dark type leads in vgc like murkrow and Hydraegon/meowscarada unburden doodle with terrain seed activation has potential but I dunno pranksters priority is great. I’ve used a doodle Toadscruel with choice scarf spore most opponents don’t expected it lol it’s been fun using that in master ranks and following up with bulk up slaking or other Mon switch in.
I'd just like to add that even if you override the -8 priority on status moves from Mycelium Might, such as through Quick Claw or Custap Berry, it will still bypass the target's immunities granted by their abilities. (EDIT: Works on Pokémon Showdown, but unproven to work in-game. 🤷) In the case of Grafaiai and Toedscruel, since removing Mycelium Might does not change the priority of a status move on that turn, you can instead choose an attack with Toedscruel and have Grafaiai target Toedscruel with Encore, forcing it to use Spore, but piggybacking off the neutral priority of the attack that Toedscruel selected. Instruct from a faster Oranguru also forces Toedscruel to act immediately, and if Toedscruel's previous move was a status move, it will execute that move while still bypassing abilities. Forcing Toedscruel to act immediately by using After You should also work just as well.
According to ua-cam.com/video/mLU060t6zJs/v-deo.html you can't actually override Mycelium Might with Quick Claw. (If this works on Pokémon Showdown! it's probably just that they haven't implemented all of the latest mechanics correctly yet.) I assume Encore, Instruct and After You should still work as you describe.

Thought it was really interesting that Doodle went through the Rotom’s Protect. It really opens up the strat, only problem being Indeedee shutting down Prankster
Another combo would be Swagger grafaiai and lum berry sneasler first grafaiai uses prankster swagger increasing sneaslers attack then sneasler procks the lum berry activiting unburden and and attack boost allowing sneaslers to cover up Grafaiai’s weakness if it sash breaks it can also go for doodle to change sneasler ability to things like Huge power from azumarill giving it more power then once grafaiai dies switch in Scarfed Co star Flamigo to double up on the pressure i just came up with this Grafaiai combo from singles
I think a cool strategy that I may want to try is use Tornadus (after the Pokémon Home update) to Swagger an ally Own Tempo Tinkaton and also use Tailwind for speed control. This can also be used with any physical attacker with Lum Berry.
Ive actually been using a very similar team since day one! glad to see my fellow players being creative and sharing ideas! great minds think alike i guess, even though im stupid XD
Truthfully Grafaiai has alot of Creative room to play around with esp with prankster It can help Unburden mons get thier respected speed boosts Or doodle off swift swim and chlorophyll to use against rain/sun teams basically it can doodle it on a sneaslers after it activates unburden making it even more faster rillaboom can make an excellent partner to pair with sneasler Esp the fact Rillaboom can fake out a ground mon covering sneasler so it can get off attacks to other mons lol
What if Mycelium Might additionally gave the opponent the ability whenever Toedscruel uses a status move (or maybe only when the target's ability would prevent it from being affected by that status move). Idk how good it would be, but it would allow it to actually put pokemon with Insomnia to sleep, which its ability description implies that it does, but it really doesn't.
What this video really made me realize is that... Gen 9 is actually well made... a lot of the pokemon seem broken but there are pokemon specifically designed to counter them too LOL Like Dondozo that is the rage right now? Espathra is an obvious and direct counter to Dondozo. Gholdengo? Toedscreul. It's funny how much thought they actually put into the designs and aren't getting credit for it.
Can you please make a team around stakeout mabosstiff, I think it has a lot of potential being the best stakeout user and dark types spot in the meta rn. In singles it's the ultimate palafin counter and in doubles I've made some fun sets with forcing the opponent to switch with whirlwind murkrow and dragon tail dragonite, this also is a decent option against dondozo teams to remove the stat boosts. Only problem is there needs to be a quicker sweeper for more offensive variety and depth and I dont really like starting with both murkrow and mabosstiff bc of annihilape and iron valiant (keep in mind prankster whirlwind usually covers it.) Would love any advice and thank you so much for inspiring people like me and many others into making not only unique and meta breaking teams but really fun concepts and increasing the depth and strategy of the game!
Thanks so much for the comment! Stakeout is such a strong ability, especially in singles. I'll certainly look at this Pokémon in future videos! FYI I don't think whirlwind/dragon tail will work on Dondozo once it has combined with tatsugiri
I tried this team, First time I ever played doubles. It is kind of confusing still normally only play singles but it was a lot of fun. Gonna try make my own team soon. And I am very happy to see grafaiai. One of my new fave mons
Doodle + Slaking is a cool idea in theory, but in reality there's just too much to go wrong for it to be consistent. Dark types are straight up immune, and when you've got Murkrow, Meowscarada, Grimmsnarl and Hydreigon being very threatening Pokemon, you'll be running into them a lot. Priority blocking abilities like Psychic Surge and Armor Tail stop it cold too. There's also the common core of Gholdengo + Murkrow, which stops that strat (Good as Gold makes it immune to Doodle). Finally, your opponent will know exactly what you're going to do at team preview, and if you fail to give Slaking another ability, it becomes extremely heavy dead weight.
You could always try Unburden or Poison Point and Doodle, then everything you listed aside from gholdengo no longer blocks the strategy. You just have to be more careful with Grafaiai so it doesn't faint before you get the doodle off
Wow the first battler didn't even try, I'm well aware of Slaking's power but I would've at least tried, I don't mind losing in a video game, but rage quitting is just a cowardly loss

Zangoose with toxic boost, belly drum, baton pass, facade holding toxic orb with female indede with follow me, psych up, baton pass, heal pulse and grafiai slaking in the back aim to get max attack slaking and then time grafiai in to pull off a doodle in time
Do you have any techniques up your sleeve for the upcoming Poison Tera Typed Greninja raid? I love watching your competitive Pokémon videos and would appreciate any advice! Thanks ❤
The issue is there are now so many dark Pokemon running around and all of them strong, also Gholdengo. So, there's a high probability that both of opponent's ability can't be copied due to restrictions. Also, when ruin and paradox pokemon will be allowed, then this is just useless move as these abilities can't be copied.
Hey Foo, have you thought about taking a look at Oricorio? I think there’s real potential in it now that Terastalization can affect Revelation Dance. Not to mention it has a lot of Pokémon it gets good synergy with, most notably Volcarona, Quaquaval, and any Quiver Dance/Baton Pass user
I've already been seeing a decent amount of Volcarona and Oricorio leads. Not an expert, but it seems that the problem is that Volcarona is good, but Oricorio is just a bit frail. But, that said, it has access to Teeter Dance, which is incredibly annoying.
@@foofootoo actually, I’m working on an Oriciorio team now, lol. It’s almost ready too, just gotta change the Tera type of a few ‘mons on the team and it should be good to test.
11:46 my singles brain is questioning the idea here because you have the option to pp stall torch song without sand chip making slaking's life harder (If they used wisp into the tyranitar they might have had a shot at stalling out the game)
Good idea but I'm more likely to run out of Slack Off than they are of Torch Song now that recovery moves are only 5 PP, and I was quite sure I could still KO the skeledirge
I have tried grafaiai and slaking in ranked. I had trouble with the meta pokemon so I changed my grafaiai's ability to poison point and maxed its speed out. I have won games because my opponent hard counter opening up with dark types expecting prankster on grafaiai, but I catch them off guard with just a really fast grafaiai and a drain punching slaking.
Even if you don't use Grafaia in your team, you should keep studying it. This Pokémon can be really mind breaking and you can make a lot of mistakes fighting against it
I'm considering building this team myself. But with an unburden set instead to stop prankster being unable to be used infront of double dark types. Been shiny hunting half of the team I made on showdown.
Would the new Ability Shield item also work with Grafaiai, to allow it to keep Prankster through Doodle? The Cloak seems super strong, but I thought the Shield would be funny
Is prankster a mandatory ability for Grafaiai or are there alternate strategies that could make up for the lack of priority that would come from using Unburden or Poison Touch?
Just imagine if instead of Mycelium Might, Toedscruel's ability was called "Mould Breaker"

Zangoose with toxic boost, belly drum, baton pass, facade holding toxic orb with female indede with follow me, psych up, baton pass, heal pulse and grafiai slaking in the back aim to get max attack slaking and then time grafiai in to pull off a doodle in time
That would be so brutal!
@@foofootoo think they deserve it bro swap indede with brute bonnet or amungoos better defenses realize surge indede stops grafaiais ability prankster
@@foofootoo sorry even better check out spidops stake out first impression choice band max attack
Was I the only one flabbergasted after watching slaking run that fast
I'm starting to think Game Freak is pouring all the love and ideas onto Doubles, considering how chaotic singles are now with Smogon.
Do you have any techniques up your sleeve for the upcoming Poison Tera Typed Greninja raid? I love watching your competitive Pokémon videos and would appreciate any advice! Thanks ❤
Keep up the awesome strats
Will do!
Can you Doodle away Comatose? There's a few new ways to change abilities this gen so maybe Komala can wake up?
Interesting idea...
Why would you want to take away its ability? It isn’t actually “Sleep” and it’s ability makes it a budget Gholdengo.
i think not, considering simple beam and such fail
Honestly doodle grafaiai with slacking’s an underrated counter to dondozo if played right especially if slaking has trailblaze
Everyone needs some Grafaiai in their lives.
It would be so funny uf the opponent also had Slaking and switch it in when you use Doodle on that spot
Super fang has a lot more utility than I thought it would. I ran foul play in most of the builds for Grafaiai that I came up with
The issue is there are now so many dark Pokemon running around and all of them strong, also Gholdengo. So, there's a high probability that both of opponent's ability can't be copied due to restrictions. Also, when ruin and paradox pokemon will be allowed, then this is just useless move as these abilities can't be copied.
This is why i usually hold off on the Grafaiai / Slaking combo just in case I can’t use Doodle.
You could use the Unburden ability on Grafaiai then. There's no reason to exaggerate by calling it useless. 🙄
Mirror herb swagger with gunk shot is fun. Not great, but fun
@@av2279 i said useless nove lol, cuz it wastes a slot
@@daphenomenalz4100 And I said you were exaggerating lol. Unburden makes it still affect Dark types, thus not useless.

Hold on though, doesn't Phantom Force bypass Protect?
There are some very interesting options with Oricorio especially with quiver dance now
@@foofootoo actually, I’m working on an Oriciorio team now, lol. It’s almost ready too, just gotta change the Tera type of a few ‘mons on the team and it should be good to test.
buy, you know, if you give prankster to slaking he will have slack off priority
11:46 my singles brain is questioning the idea here because you have the option to pp stall torch song without sand chip making slaking's life harder (If they used wisp into the tyranitar they might have had a shot at stalling out the game)
Good idea but I'm more likely to run out of Slack Off than they are of Torch Song now that recovery moves are only 5 PP, and I was quite sure I could still KO the skeledirge
Would this work for photosynthesis? Reverse sweeping a sun team with paradox forms would be a great use for this strat 🤯
Unfortunately it cannot copy protosynthesis/quark drive
I see... What a waste of potential 😞
I'm a casual player so this is absolutely bonkers to me
Some of the competitive strategies in scarlet and violet are so weird!
@foofootoo definitely very interesting to see though! this gen has been a lot of fun
Quick question, wouldn’t it be more consistently effective for Grafaiai to have the Ability Shield so that it can continue to use Prankster?
In most cases yes, but the item description explicitly says "from other Pokémon", so it shouldn't stop you from changing it yourself.
Even if you don't use Grafaia in your team, you should keep studying it. This Pokémon can be really mind breaking and you can make a lot of mistakes fighting against it
6:19 look at the trainer have a heart attack
I had fun watching it 👍
Thanks for commenting!
The team code doesn’t work anymore, is there a new one?
I'm considering building this team myself.
But with an unburden set instead to stop prankster being unable to be used infront of double dark types.
Been shiny hunting half of the team I made on showdown.
Good luck!
Wait till regigigas comes out this would be a scary combo
I faced a team with this strategy and was a fun fight👍🏻
It's a super specific playstyle
This is the same team I use in ranked besides tyranitar lmao
That's cool that we came up with it separately 😆
Does Slacking keep the doodled ability after Grafaiai dies or leaves the field? Or does its truant come back?
You can’t protect a phantom force btw
Would the new Ability Shield item also work with Grafaiai, to allow it to keep Prankster through Doodle? The Cloak seems super strong, but I thought the Shield would be funny
The item's description says it only prevents others from changing the holder's ability.
@@Lumelore awww :( That would probably be too good, I guess
@@Lumelore but thank you
Happy new year ❤️❤️🔥🔥
And to you too!
Is prankster a mandatory ability for Grafaiai or are there alternate strategies that could make up for the lack of priority that would come from using Unburden or Poison Touch?
It's better to have prankster. So you can doodle first.
