I love how both companies have step up the game. That has made many foreign companies to die in shame. No matter whether it is Tata or Mahindra, we should be proud of them both. ❤️
I have seen both cars on road but Tata Safari presence in road is at another level 😍🥰
Happy to see TATA and Mahendra are giving great value for money products to Indian's rather than value for band products.
My pick would be XUV 700. But can't deny the merits of Safari as well. At the end I am happy both Indian brands have came so far.
Haven't seen an XUV700 in person yet, but that Safari, in real life, looks absolutely smashing in that paint scheme.. 🤩🤩
Absolutely true!! Infact imo the royal blue safari has a stunning road presence. Having a safari at home and having test driven the xuv 700, I can strongly tell the xuv700 on road looks rad and mean asf
I have seen 3 in my city and in Silver it looks smashing. 👌🏻
Blue only look good in pictures. It will be least selling once the hype settles for XUV700.
Saw a new dark blue XUV700, and it didnt look very classy honestly, in fact the front looks quite ugly like the recent Creta, and profile is quite MUV-ish
A person in my neighbour had safari and now he also owns xuv in wite colour ... And man can surely say that xuv 700 looks as macho as safari .. and more dangerous from the front ... Its on road presence is something else .
When both Safari and XUV700 are in the same frame, eyes always turn towards Safari. That feeling can't be replicated by anything else in the class. Tata Safari Rocks❤❤🇮🇳🇮🇳
Looking at the likes my comment has received, it's very obvious who is crying🙂
The video all indians were waiting for . Huge fan of evo India.
For premium features,AWD and Safety I will choose XUV 700, Exterior Iooks Safari is Better
700, if it gets the ventilated seats and 360 camera on all the Ax7 variants. You'd want them on a long term car like this.
I own a Safari Adventure Persona so disclaimer - I may be a bit based. The XUV700 is clearly the more value for money car if you are into features. As to how prominently one uses those features is subjective. The Safari misses out on some very good to have features in the segment (like the 360 cam). With that being said, the dashing looks and driving pleasure of the Safari still makes it my pick.
The fun of driving a Safari is out of the world. It feels like one is driving a Super Premium European car and is a direct derivative of Land Rover!!! On the features aspect, I didn't miss anything in this car. The AC is so powerful that you will feel like switching it off after every 10 mins. Didn't feel the need for a ventilated car seat so far. The control and stability of Safari is so smooth that you will want to continue driving this for a long time and one doesn't feel tired driving this car even for long hours. Am sure XUV 700 is a great car as well and I would always urge the prospective car purchasers to test drive both and then choose one that suits them. All in all both the companies have created world class cars at attractive prices that will beat the global majors in the years to come...
@@indraneelghosh3696 Agreed. Although I would still liked to have had that 360 cam :-)

Watched entire video and never feels like to skip something. Nice job EVO India
Brilliant video really detailed, loved it ❤️
Thinking of buying the Safari despite the XUV 700 having more features. Hopefully we get a mild facelift for the Safari’s dashboard layout.
Which car did you end up buying? I am leaning towards XUV 700 because of the premium interior finish, better suspension and overall ride comfort, handling and quality! Wish they had ventilated seats, but not sure if that is such a big deal when compared with so many plus points.
@@evoIndiaHI Sirish and Team. It would be great if you can do an update to this video to battle it between the facelifted Safari Vs XUV700? Perhaps that will also help the Harrier buyers to decide between the TATA's VS Mahindra! Thanks.
Tata has raised it standards in a very short span of time but if asked to choose one then xuv700 is the one to go for! Mahindra after sales service is something that is important and edges over Tata.
Owned XUV before switching to Harrier... My personal experience.... Harrier is way better. XUV gave to so much trouble with the tech from the first service.. bad service... harrier, no issues thus far, thankfully... service is good..
@@djashoooo you're comparing a 7-8 year old car with a car that's been around in the market for 2 years, obviously harrier is going to be better than xuv500.
@@djashoooo ok but overall people satisfied from Mahindra would be more than tata, not denying what you faced. Secondly xuv is old car as compared to harrier.
Safari provides more room in 3rd row than xuv7oo. Xuv should have provided sliding 2nd row seats. And also Safari should update screensize and some modern features... Bonnet and tail gate of XUV should come with hydraulic and automatic boot opener respectively....
I love both Safari looks muscular infact...but price safety and features wise I choose xuv over Safari
Wished Tata Motors had increased the length of Safari to accommodate more boot space. Would have been the perfect family SUV.
just 73 liter is not acceptable.
EVO india is like the Skoda/ Volkswagen group is in cars in India. They deserve much more love and support.
Kudos to ur passion as an enthusiastic automobile journalist which is so rare in India. Sirish chandran is so effortlessly good with cars. Really good to watch him.
Both are fantastic SUV's. But my heart still pulls me towards the safari for some reason...cheers.... ❤️✌️
XUV is VFM and Safari is Badass. Head goes with X while heart with S. But that touchscreen andlimited boot are big gripes
Well XUV700 has the bigger boot but lesser third row comfort and while Safari compromises in boot space, it has more comfortable third row. So do you think, passenger is more important or luggage?
Same conclusion about EVO, man how you have moved automotive journalism to another level. Top Gear UK does not exist anymore, 5th Gear is fading, your content is amazing
Such a superb review and comparison bro, your review and feel is really good. 👍👍❤️❤️
Already Booked Safari
I'm in love with new safari🥺
Sir please reply.. Safari ya xuv 700? Konsi Car Final karu?
Lol, the third row is spacious in the Safari because of the fact that third row space was prioritized over boot space giving the Safari a paltry 73 litres of bootspace with third row up. In case of the XUV 7OO, they tried to balance both the third row space as well as boot space thus, XUV 7OO gets 220 litres even with the third row up. And let's be honest, only kids or shorter adults (5ft5in) would be comfortable sitting in either mid-size SUV's rear.
Coming to robustness or solidity, they're both monocoque and do not give the feeling of solidity of BOF cars like the Fortuner, Endeavour, Crysta, etc. The feeling of robustness or solidity is actually closely matched by both cars and let's appreciate that. However, only the XUV 7OO gets 5 star NCAP rating whereas Tata (due to the FIAT engine protrusion issue) still hasn't sent their Harrier or Safari for voluntary testing unlike Mahindra.
@@callingbell-ix5se Check TeamBHP. It's too long to elaborate here. In short, it's basically to do with the way the fuel filter is placed on the FIAT 2.0L Multijet engine. In RHD countries, the issue is mitigated and cars like the Jeep Compass get good safety ratings but in LHD countries like ours, it could potentially affect the safety ratings so that's about the gist of it. It's too long though. Would suggest checking TeamBHP and reading about the issue in detail.
I have safari gold edition and its better than both of them. But the normal safari can't beat xuv700. If you budget is around 25 lacks, go for the XUV700.
How is safari gold better than xuv700? I know it gets ventilated seats in the 2md row too but that's pretty much it.
@@aryans4519 it is has better premium and looks too it gets wireless charging ventilation in 2nd row
@@aryans4519
Yes, and just because of that lol. 700 would be getting front parking sensors, auto dimming irvms, and front ventilated seats as well later.
@MENACE YT
When did I disagree. The waiting period is sure too long, and some important features they didn't include. If someone needs a 7 seater to get delivered very fast, they should choose lower variants or go for any other car. But if someone can wait, there's no rival to 700 honestly. Also ax5 misses out on cameras and stuffs, those are upsetting.
What Tata needs right now to compete with XUV 700:
Complete LED headlamps set up with good throw.
Diesel engine must be re-tuned engine must churns out more power similar to Mahindra's.
A powerful petrol engine(turbo must).
A good infotainment system. It's infotainment is no where near of Mahindra's.
Improved after sales service.
I think these are the primary areas where Tata can concentrate. Safari is a very very good product but right now XUV 700 is the benchmark. Even XUV 700 target Fortuner(despite half of the price) market by it's extremely powerful fast engines...
This segment does not lack for new metal and there's always going to be something newer, better and faster to drive. That said, we wouldn't write off the Safari that easily
I own the safari xza+.
I get a guaranteed mileage of 15-16km/l on the highways..
Can the xuv700 prove this figures???
This part hasn't been talked about, and with the rising fuel prices, it should also be considered...
The automatic diesel xuv700 delivered 17.6kmpl on highway in zap mode cruising at 90 to 105KMPH mostly near to 100
Good to see you Sirish... I still remember your review with Bert about Swift and Fabia... Lots of respect... Keep reviewing....
Safari needs a few things to lock horns with xuv.. 1- dashboard and info display update, 2- engine options, 3- awd, 4- increase in wheelbase so they can give usable boot space. 💗
If safari gets a 4wd. I don't think longer wheelbase is gonna help offloading.
and a lot of other this , apart from you have listed above ....like 10/12 inch infotainment and full digital screen with new graphics , 360 cam , A higher power varient of this FCA engine ( it should pursue OEM to improve it ) ... Connected car tech with more options ...changes to STEARING set-up and suspension tweaking
Maybe a facelift will come with all the improvement , awd and petrol ( mild hybrid like MG )
( by the way Mahindra hs an edge with stallion series of petrol engines , it has been working for years )

@@sirishch both are monocoque chasis I don't think they go deep in off-road. Maybe soft roading is good for both xuv and safari
Your explanation , specially technical one , is relly good. you have done a good comparison.
Can you pls explain why TATA uses FCA derived ENGINE and not the same as Mahindra , which originally is from AVL of Austria ,and it uses the derivative of same engines. ( Tata might have to pay extra to FCA for its engines ) . What about reliability of the AVL engines.
Surely , TATA has to do some catching up in areas like STEARING lighting-up , INFOTAINMENT system upgrade to 10/12 inch , all digital SPEEDOMETER with better graphics , FULL CONNECTED car tech features ( which it misses on ) , improvement in SUSPENSION SYSTEM, Memory POWER seats , A PETROL VARIENT , ALL WHEEL DRIVE VARIENT , 360 camera .......etc

I just want an AX7 without ADAS ! It will be the best VFM variant in the segment!
And do you have any idea how the standard audio system sounds? Then non-Sony one.
The standard audio output in 700 sounds quite good. More precisely it's at par with the Harriet's output (despite its jbl audio)
I guess you'll have to listen back to back a couple of times to figure the exact difference
Hey I wanna buy xuv700 just confused between
Ax7 vsAx5
Petrol vs diesel
Automatic vs manual
I can tell you my running and requirements
Help me out where can I contact you and tell you about it
Very good comparison!! Very well presented....
Very detailed comparison, EVO, thanks. You have touched upon most of the aspects that one considers when wearing the buyer's hat. In fact, you have answered most of the reader / viewer queries in the shoot itself. 1. All those ADAS features are practically useless in Indian road conditions. I am used to looking out for bovines more than humans on the roads (and those incluse NHs) in MP. They don't give a damn even if nudged with an ARIA... ADAS, as you rightly pointed out, will make you go bonkers in no time. SO, why even pay and get a feature that's never going to be used (Or kept in switch OFF position) ? 2. Sunroof. It is such a craze that OEMs have been forced to provide them on their cars ! Who needs a sunroof ? It's just the initial novelty with kids / teens sticking out their heads / torsos and risking their lives ! How many times have owners actually used it ? Has one considered the aspects of break-ins / leaks during heavy monsoons / operational issues of use and non - use ? Has anyone factored in the dusty conditions on our roads ? Coming to think of it.... The Safari provides for both .. A panoramic sun roof AND an air purifier ! What I like is the airiness it provides with the inner cover slid back..3. The Safari is a true 7 seater .. The very sitting position of the anchor says it all.. Much the same difference between the XUV 500 and the TATA Aria / Hexa. 4. Steering feedback. I must say, that is a feature by design and not a problem or an after thought. A true SUV is a driver's machine and a light electronic (EPS) takes the very adventure angle out of it.... feels like a Maruti hatch instead. 5. Looks. Although this is subjective and a personal choice, there's no doubt the Safari is the better looker, as has been certified by the anchor himself. (Once the novelty wears off....the Safari is going to still turn heads). Having seen both the exact colours of cars used in this video, my choice is still the Safari. The design is definately more butch, more SUV, the XUV is more of an MUV with SUV overtures. The worst part of the XUV is the front, the cliff like drop from the bonnet downwards is apparent and the big DRLs with no specific shape look awkward, if not clumsy or aftermarket. 6. Electronics. In our conditions, the lesser, the better. The Safari's dash has an analogue speedo and basic information. In the real world, who needs more information ? TPI, 360 cam are all unnecessary bells and whistles, as are the pop out door handles. Novelty, yes, add on to feature / brochure list, yes. How many and how long will they be used ... Anyone's guess. 7. Cost of ownership. This is where one additional chapter should have been added. No information on real world fuel averages, oil change intervals, standard maintenance costs, costs of commonly used parts / spares, etc. The good part is that both are Indian / desi OEMs and our folks are pretty much used to their prices and availability. A word from th eanchor on the effective ground clearnaces and the softness / stiffness of the suspension would give a better idea of how much abuse they can withstand, although both are soft roaders. The AWD XUV 700 needs to be tested off road to establish its worth as a 4WD. One last point. TATA provides Bridestone Ecopia tyres on the Safari, whereas XUV provides MRF Wanderers. A little googling will tell the difference in cost, where M&M makes up for in its "value quitoent" maybe ?
While Mahindra has done a tremendous job with the XUV700...It's the SAFARI that won my heart!!♥ Such a massive yet beautiful car 😍 It not only looks but also feels like a BIG car! Speaking of the steering feedback, I liked it on the safari...was waiting for the 2023 facelift and I'm definitely going for it!!
You missed a big point. The left leg on the driver seat is not at all comfortable while sitting or driving on safari. Its really uncomfortable due to that. If that and the infotainment system is upgraded its a thumbsup
XUV 700 for Sure, no brainer. Took test drive of both on same day and after XUV700 when I drove Safari, I was really surprised how can Land Rover based vehicle can be so uneasy to drive, it was like driving a mini truck. Handling of XUV700 was like warm knife on butter. Turning radius and control was much better along with View and command of XUV700. Power & features is no comparison, XUV is way ahead. And finally price I am getting much much more in XUV for much much less price, why would I or anyone go for Safari? Immediately booked after the test drive. Although it will vary across dealers, But Test drive experience of Mahindra was also good, by afternoon till evening I got test drive of both Manual and Automatic, Tata took 4 days in providing test drive.
Looks wise it's no contest, Safari is and looks way more macho and bigger than Xuv700.
Awd on Xuv700 is way too costly as it's reserved for it's top trim, nevertheless it's atleast there.
For family usage and long trips, Safari's spacious cabin, higher seating position, more cushiony seats and better ride quality does it for it.
Xuv700 is good vfm choice for driver's delight although Safari is no slouch either but Xuv nudges slightly ahead. AWD at top trims makes Xuv700 slightly more capable but it's costly and it's no 4x4 (Get the Thar for that purpose).
Adas sometimes works sometimes doesn't, so you decide it's effectiveness. Infotainment is more responsive & better on Xuv700 but the music system is better on Safari.
*Conclusion:*
If looks, space, comfort and music system is more important for you, get the Safari. It's an all rounder and would also suffice driving enthusiasts.
If you want a purely driver's delight with a ton of features, get the Xuv700 as it's vfm at lower trims too and more suited for city usage.
Cheers.

Most buyers won't be be spending the premium for the 4x4 variant of a Safari. And that considered, the 4x2 Safari isn't lacking in any way for the regular buyer who will seldom be driving on an off-road trail
Can one retrofit an after market touch screen in the persona edition of the Safari?
I've seen it being done for base variants, not for top models.
Being a mahindra i still cannot rely on all its electronics ,screens, sensors and all the gimmicks. Aging of xuv700 is critical for mahindra. So for me its the safari .
@Vito Corleone tata unreliable hai , mahindra ki built bekar hai , Volkswagens ki service mehengi hai , maruti ki service sasti aur resale achchi hai, aur Toyota reliable hai . All of these phrases are mere stereotypes now. Every car and brand are at par with modern standards .. excluding the factor that all have different crash test ratings . Some have more stars than others. Crash test ratings should be the criteria over when buying a new car ,Not Reliability or cost of service...Because all are the same . All come under warranty. And all the cars are insured .
@Vito Corleone if UA-cam videos is everything then people can rule the world and gain knowledge watching videos only. No need to step out of the house.
Things Tata should change:
1. Infotainment system
2. Do a Less bulky dashboard layout and
Sleek , posh design steering wheel
3. Better interior colour theme
It is neck to neck .

Personally I feel the 700 looks a bit too much like the 500, and for me that isn’t a good thing coz I’m paying a lot more money on the 700, Safari wins the styling round for me.
driving location?
What I've noticed is that while XUV700 feels better for the driver with a better looking dashboard, more engine options, more refined engine, and is equipped with more electronics, Safari is better for the passengers with more comfortable third row, theatre seating, etc. And while XUV700 is available in a 7 and 5 seater configuration, Safari has 6 and 7 seater option and you can buy a harrier if you require a 5 seater. As for the looks, Safari is the clear winner for me. It is more macho looking and its front, rear and side profile look very attractive. XUV700's side profile is only what looks good but its taillights, headlights and grill looks over designed. Hence I bought the Safari. And since I drive my car by myself, its not a disappointment at all
Harrier and safari safety is yet to tested, so there's a bit of a doubt there. Whereas Mahindra was super confident with their product, they tested it right away!
