People might call this comparison crazy ... but trust me, most buyers like me have shortlisted Taigun GT plus and XUV700 AX5/7 ... needed this comparison.
Taigun would me more comfortable to drive in, in the city and an occasional trips outside. Its more of an pseudo Suv. If you are looking for something that can do cross country, without breaking a sweat (i mean the occupants), then the Xuv would be a better choice, just because its gotta bigger engine better suspension, more spacious for all that luggage. Even though I am a bit skeptical about the Xuv electronics and how the panels being put together for a rattle free ride, I still would go with the Xuv, considering the Fuel pump issue going on with the Taigun and Kuskaq, even though they say they've fixed it. I better reach my destination with a rattling car than a dead one.
AX5 gets 2-airbags less, no Parking Camera, 1 Parking Sensor less, no Automatic Climate Control, no Electrically Folding Mirrors, no Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator (non-nerds wrongly call Taigun's system as TPMS), no auto-up anti-pinch Driver's Window (not even auto-down, shame on Mahindra), no auto-dimming IRVM, no Rain Sensing Wipers, no Light Sensing Headlamps, no Cruise Control, no Push Button Start & Smart Key, no Projector lens on the LED Headlamps, no leatherette upholstery, no WIRELESS MOBILE CHARGER, no VENTILATED SEATS, no GEARSHIFT PADDLES and one-less Adjustable Headrest compared to the Taigun GT-Plus there are way more nerdier nerds around than your in-house nerd!

Great review! I was looking for something like this earlier as i was planning on buying the Taigun GT DSG but was tempted by the XUV AX5. Couple of things to note though, the AX5 variant doesn't compare to the Taigun GT or Topline variant in my mind. The XUV AX5 lacks parking sensors, rear camera, automatic AC, wireless charging etc. As i couldn't increase my budget for the AX7 models I went with the Taigun and am really happy with my purchase as the XUV's dimensions would have been a little big for me for city driving as it is.
I gotto agree on the same thing, we were looking at a suv at 22 lakhs and we checked out the xuv700 ax5 and well mahindra is pushing people to buy the ax7 even though some wouldn't want to spend that much or want the 7 seats and looking at ax5 it barely had any features for 22 lakhs so we went with the taigun gt dsg and well we were even lucky to get one delivered in less than a week so really happy with the purchase and if anyone is looking to buy a suv at 22 lakhs I would definitely recommend taigun and do avoid looking at the ax5 xuv cause of many reasons, 1 being the waiting which is more than a year and second the ax5 isn't value for money it's just trying to push you to buy the ax7.
@@gautamparmar3786 I experienced the same when I went to enquire about the AX5, the Mahindra sales rep didn't even want to answer my questions about the variant and was pushing for the AX7. It all seems to be done for marketing. The AX7 variant in itself is a really good value for money package but not everyone can afford it whereas the other variants' feature list seem to be put together just to put it at a headline worthy price. I mean how can the AX5 which costs 20+ Lacs doesn't even come with automatic AC or cruise control. All you get is ADAS in the high priced models.

Got Taigun 1.0 Topline.. Felt I should’ve gone for 1.5, but there’s only so much my money could buy ! Irrespective of how good XUV is, I’d still have bought a Taigun or Kushaq since I preferred brand ‘VW/Skoda’ !
This is crap..I have Vento Highline manual for 5+ years which has rain sensing wipers. The Taigun is just a downgrade for VW standards in terms of quality, shitty plastics inside and weird of all the 1.5 GT Manual doesn’t even come with cruise control. I mean who would buy a 1.5 without cruise
Interesting comparison. Kudos just for taking this up. Of course, as always, a well balanced review too. Both cars are competent and great options. I will go with the Taigun not just because it's a fine car. There's no way I am joining a waiting list of 19 months for the XUV700!

Freak this is the exact dilemma I am in. Booked an XUV 14 months back and the delivery date is near. And today I drove the 1.5 GT and was blown away. The driver in me wants the Taigun and the family wants the XUV diesel Luxury
Mahindra xuv is a pocket friendly luxury featured car for middle class people Tigun is by the legendary VW which is known for its performance It's purely a drivers cars It may offer less feature and the service cost will be way higher, but even with these drawbacks driving it is sheer pleasure and the design line is classic which never gets boring Just take a test drive ull realise it.
Typically a car enthusiast will change cars/brands and not stick to one particular brand all their life. That's a typical consumer not an enthusiast. Excellent comparison Evo. XUV anyday for that engine, aisin gearbox and spacious cabin. Fuel economy is usually reserved for diesel cars.
You are spot on with your Comparison Review. I am very proud, happy & Big Salute for XUV700 as a home grown Car. Its a big success & achievement from Mahindra group that we are comparing with VW Car. It means a lot as we have bitten VW Car in India by 5 times as far nos bookings are concern inspite of XUV700 being expensive. So it's a shame for German VW that they have produced a Compromised product for India. It says it all Mahindra's & India have Won with our home grown Car.
In a like for like comparison pricewise, between GT+ and AX5 you get quite a bit more kit on Taigun with more airbags, paddle shifters, climate control, keyless entry and push button start, TPMS, auto IRVM, rear camera, cruise control, telescopic steering, cooled glovebox, rain sensing wipers, ambient lighting, auto headlamps, wireless charger, better warranty; while XUV gets rear disc brakes, a panoramic sunroof and more space. If you jump to AX7 by putting in additional 2.5 lakhs you get 18" wheels, ADAS, powered driver seat, and leatherette upholstery; but you are still missing on wireless charger, telescopic steering, paddle shifters, keyless entry, auto irvm, ambient lighting and cooled glovebox. Taigun is offering more useful features overall besides the performance, as rationally how many times one will use the sunroofs in our weather or how many times in a single driver vehicle we need to adjust driving position that electric adjustments with memory function will be put to use. The things that work in favor of XUV700 are space and ADAS, but Taigun will be the easier wholesome package to live with on a daily basis.

@shirish you missed mentioning the 5 star global NCAP of the XUV 700. Not that the VW would be lesser considering it’s German Engineering. However 5 star on Global NCAP is quite an achievement !!
Even if xuv was a better drivers car i would had rather gone for the taigun , Reason: 1- i would never want my daily driver to pull single digit economy figures, especially after these idiotic petrol prices . 2- Mahindra and electronics never go hand in hand. 3- obviously 1.5tsi and dsg is a superior Setup and more fun. 4- parts and service of vw is equivalent with everyone for these products. Very good review. Subscribed your channel 👍 I like both of these machines and looking for exact comparison. While my heart goes to Taigun, as I am looking for 2nd car, I voted for XUV700. The Dealer asked me to take delivery last week (AX7 petrol black) but I asked for reschedule to Jan due to depreciation risk associated with Dec month delivery. However I pretty much daily watch a video on these two cars 😁 reason exactly same as what you mentioned in the conclusion 😉 and below points go on my thinking, Pros of Vw: 1) German Engineering and trust (in hyd a VW polo fell off from a flyover and both the car and driver are safe) 2) Easy citi maneuver 3) Dream to own a German car Cons of Vw: 1) The mental quality is not good esp the front bonnet side panels 2) Low seating 3) Service and repair costs Pros of XUV700 1) Majestic and road presence and drive abilities 2) Features at the price point 3) Most celebrated SUV of 2021 Cons of XUV: 1) Too many electronics and any glitch will make us go crazy and expensive and time consuming to fix 2) Cost of ownership of an XUV700 AX7-P coming to Rs. 46,000-Rs.50,000 per month( 10 year ownership, 1000km drive per month) Pls do share your thoughts.
Love the comparisons @evoindia. Seriously a great achievement from mahindra. On an unrelated note, as an enthusiast, would love to see some videos on how to up-mod your car within the indian automotive laws. I drive a polo tsi and am keen to explore some options in that area
You didn't speak about Xuv 700 all wheel drive variant which is only available in the top spec diesel. Please inform Mahindra to include AWD in lower variants with manual for enthusiasts.
Great video. Loved the comparison. I’m coming from a Ford ecosport petrol manual. Looking to upgrade to an automatic. Took test drive of Kushaq 1.5 today and was amazed by its performance and refinement. Heart says Kushaq, but mind says XUV 700 AX5 diesel auto, due to better space, street cred. What’s your recommendation? While it’s true that I hate to let go of the Ecosport…. 🙂

Get both we'd say 😅 But in all seriousness, these two SUVs are closer matched than one would realise, and you can't honestly go wrong with picking one over the other
Officially Mahindra has beaten Volkswagen/Skoda in mostly all aspects, feels proud for an indian company, it's hard to beat the god fathers of automobiles ( German manufactures)
Can't believe, today I was exactly doing the same comparison with my friend. Kudos to you for bringing such an unique comparison. As you said, choice between two is closer than it appears.
Guys the XUV has no clearly comparison! How can we compare a car that cannot be bought! Glad you mentioned it The fact is if you have a booking and you go to the Mahindra showroom the sales people are asking you to book another car with a different colour at revised rates giving silly reasons for the delivery time and telling you that the less sold colour will have a better delivery time! In the mean time also asking you to hold your original booking as many are getting cancelled! Well of all the things MnM has planned to achieve with Thar and now XUV they have surely achieved huge marketing hype for their products. But I keep getting one question, if a real estate developer has to give a deadline for possession of a property before sale why should one book a car blindly only to know that there is no delivery for months? Why should one facilitate the hype of a product that is simply not suited to one’s needs! If MnM was able to fix the price of first 25k products then a hike for the next 25k and then a final hike again, I am sure an algorithm can be put in place variant wise to predict a delivery period as the bookings proceed The point is the fault is not with MnM the fault is with our consumer laws and that surely need a much awaited ‘facelift’

Very good comparison. Although it seems of different segment. But it's a relevant and important one. I was admist this confusion too. But finally choose Jeep compass As also today, a buyer also goes one segment above and below, if there are compelling and convincing options
Cannot really compare these two. While I owned and loved the Yeti ten years ago, these new Skodas and VWs are really much lower in quality. They are all engineered to a cost. But reliability is on 7OO's side. Also while driving it, it doesnt feel like you are driving such a big vehicle, as said, it handles like a Sedan and almosst as same as the Germans, but a german is a german.

It has been fixed and was only seen in Kushaqs.
Exactly for 70 % city usage, one would be crying every time in the XUV more than the Taigun
Still this ax5 bundle of steel shit costing 25 lakhs. Chor saale mahindra wale.
@@reyanshgambhir2091? so ur comparing a much larger suv of bigger size and its mid model with top model, xuv 700 is much more worth at that price but some stupid people like you 2 dont understand this simple fact that either you can get a large suv mid model with big size and less features or you can get a much smaller suv with more features.

Haven't watched the video yet but just by seeing the title, I'm SUPER excited and fully buckled up for next 19 minutes!🤩. Who could bring such unique comparisons other that our fav Evo India.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Is there any rattling noise in you taigun ??
@@akrishtrai4687 initially the door rattled at slow speeds while going over minor road imperfections but after the car's first service they replaced the door seals and the problem hasn't returned till date.

Just a small correction. The GT plus variant of Taigun comes with rain sensing wipers too.
@Next Big Thing yes wipers will cut that point from where the susu will come
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even the topline variant
This is crap..I have Vento Highline manual for 5+ years which has rain sensing wipers. The Taigun is just a downgrade for VW standards in terms of quality, shitty plastics inside and weird of all the 1.5
GT Manual doesn’t even come with cruise control.
We're glad you liked the video!
yes don’t support black marketing that mahindra is giving rise to in the name of long waiting period
A TSI engine anyday over others 🔥🔥
If you plan to own only one car I would get the XUV, if you have a second car then the Taigun would be my pick

After seeing ur video i booked taigun amazing car taigun
i have a vw polo (2012) and trust me the quality of that car is just unmatchable with cars of today be it vw,skoda, tata, mahindra.
I am stuck between kushaq,slavia,elevate,safari,xuv700
Elevate I have heard is not powerful.
XUV I think has a way long waiting time
Slavia - Might be long enough
Very very confused
Freak this is the exact dilemma I am in. Booked an XUV 14 months back and the delivery date is near. And today I drove the 1.5 GT and was blown away. The driver in me wants the Taigun and the family wants the XUV diesel Luxury
Mahindra xuv is a pocket friendly luxury featured car for middle class people
Tigun is by the legendary VW which is known for its performance
It's purely a drivers cars
It may offer less feature and the service cost will be way higher, but even with these drawbacks driving it is sheer pleasure and the design line is classic which never gets boring
Just take a test drive ull realise it.
Taigun seems perfect for small family
It does seat four in comfort
@@evoIndia always against VW... lol
In my view Taigun looks like a stretched out Polo rather than an SUV
That is what you pay for lol. That is the VW design. Every European car manufacturer follows and adheres to their design but none like VW.
I would choose the Taigun, for my family size and, mileage and usable power 😉
Typically a car enthusiast will change cars/brands and not stick to one particular brand all their life. That's a typical consumer not an enthusiast. Excellent comparison Evo. XUV anyday for that engine, aisin gearbox and spacious cabin. Fuel economy is usually reserved for diesel cars.
We're glad you liked the video!
Sirish, just enjoy each and every video of yours !!
Well stated
Video looks crisp on tv now that it's 4k. Next upgrade could be microphone. There's some minor static. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

@shirish you missed mentioning the 5 star global NCAP of the XUV 700. Not that the VW would be lesser considering it’s German Engineering. However 5 star on Global NCAP is quite an achievement !!
You are talking about VW build quality 😛
@@seesshhhh2371 that’s also point.
Global NCAP is a scam....Only Latin NCAP and Euro NCAP are accepted globally
Even if xuv was a better drivers car i would had rather gone for the taigun , Reason: 1- i would never want my daily driver to pull single digit economy figures, especially after these idiotic petrol prices . 2- Mahindra and electronics never go hand in hand. 3- obviously 1.5tsi and dsg is a superior Setup and more fun. 4- parts and service of vw is equivalent with everyone for these products. I mean 6k for the oil service for a 1.5 tsi dsg car. Steal deal shit !
2lkh for gearbox change will also be shit in some years, please don't talk about reliability here
@@SuyashKaul if maintained and driven properly VW brings a big smile. Spare parts are expensive but at the same time sturdy....there are on and off electronic issues with Germans. However I pretty much daily watch a video on these two cars 😁 reason exactly same as what you mentioned in the conclusion 😉 and below points go on my thinking,
Pros of Vw:
1) German Engineering and trust (in hyd a VW polo fell off from a flyover and both the car and driver are safe)
2) Easy citi maneuver
3) Dream to own a German car
Cons of Vw:
1) The mental quality is not good esp the front bonnet side panels
2) Low seating
3) Service and repair costs
Pros of XUV700
1) Majestic and road presence and drive abilities
2) Features at the price point
3) Most celebrated SUV of 2021
Cons of XUV:
1) Too many electronics and any glitch will make us go crazy and expensive and time consuming to fix
2) Cost of ownership of an XUV700 AX7-P coming to Rs. 46,000-Rs.50,000 per month( 10 year ownership, 1000km drive per month)
Pls do share your thoughts.

Guys the XUV has no clearly comparison!
How can we compare a car that cannot be bought!
Glad you mentioned it
The fact is if you have a booking and you go to the Mahindra showroom the sales people are asking you to book another car with a different colour at revised rates giving silly reasons for the delivery time and telling you that the less sold colour will have a better delivery time!
If MnM was able to fix the price of first 25k products then a hike for the next 25k and then a final hike again, I am sure an algorithm can be put in place variant wise to predict a delivery period as the bookings proceed
The point is the fault is not with MnM the fault is with our consumer laws and that surely need a much awaited ‘facelift’
Oh yes I am as proud of the MnM engineering team as anybody but everything else is in shambles
Great review
Thank you
Much awaited 👍

Parfect camp. What we want...
Very good comparison. Although it seems of different segment. But it's a relevant and important one. I was admist this confusion too. But finally choose Jeep compass
As also today, a buyer also goes one segment above and below, if there are compelling and convincing options
Cannot really compare these two. While I owned and loved the Yeti ten years ago, these new Skodas and VWs are really much lower in quality. They are all engineered to a cost. The XUV700 on the other hand has truly upped the game. Mahindra is worthy of great appreciation because their quality is better than these new age Europeans….
