- Over 1.6 lakh Indians gave up their citizenship in 2021, the government has told Parliament. Around the world people leave their countries of better jobs and better opportunities, but the reasons differ from country to country, and among different socio-economic groups.

Manju Seth says people leave because of ease of business, tax issues. But highest number of immigrants are to US, Australia, Canada, UK where taxes are high. Real reason why people leave is because life in India has become difficult, lack of employment opportunities, poor quality of life, unsafe environment etc.

Do you know about Aus/US/Canada/UK? Life is not easy anywhere. It will bring different set of issues like finding a job with decent salary to live and retire, can't even own a house without 1M+ etc., Anyways, keep living in ignorance.

People know they have just one life to live . Waiting for corruption to end , waiting for A cleaner environment , waiting for better life ... Time is running out . People want to secure the future for their children whilst they still can . No doubt they leave with heavy hearts most of the time .

Despite knowing it is all fake police and courts will force husband and his entire family thru hell including old ageingb sick parents for decades. They will be treated like slaves by police and courts who will force husband to pay 30% of his salary as maintenance and give wife accommodations in husband or his parents property and rights to his ancestral property.
My dream is to leave India and settle in newzealand or Australia. Hope I will fullfill. I am working hard for that.

The main reason of giving up Indian Citizenship is You are not allowed to hold dual citizenship. Secondly regarding security of jobs with better income and social security and Medicare.

As a person who left India in 2017 let me tell you, I love my life in the west. People are open minded, mind their own business, I get more services for my taxes. Mostly atheists who don’t care what religion you follow or don’t, nobody cares what I eat, who I meet, marry or date. Limited social injustice, no poor children begging, no corrupt ministers. Till about 2013 life was bearable in India atleast we didn’t have to battle colleagues, get comments like rice bag and abuses. Colleagues and friends did not care about your political ideology and life was going on. But now every time I am in India I can’t believe how horrible it has become. I am glad I got out and I’m sure that’s what the youth want too. Education and livelihood not statues, not mandirs, not religious bigotry and hate

The quality of life in India is very poor. Even in Delhi, the capital city, we've never had 24 hours water supply. In the 21st century, we still have power cuts everyday, corruption is rampant (has always been), poor sanitation and civic sense. Cows and feral dogs everywhere, overpopulation and successive governments that have proved to be ineffective in changing things around.

Reasons are straight and simple ... opportunities of a better standards of living as compared to what is there in India ... (1) Far better work culture, no politics with promotions and transfer, no mediocre bosses ... (2). No intense academic competition for the kids ... (3). no paying bribes at Govt. offices for every little work ... and (4). no stresses of day to day works at banks, hospitals, commuting etc.
I have been living in canada, and i disagree with 1st Point.. In canada, work politics is more than in india( not saying for general, but wherever you have Indian boss( manager/admin/interviewer) , there is a clear discrimination on work place. No punjabi will ever hire a nonpunjabi for his business , Amazon warehouses in canada are overcrowded with punjabis, do u know why? because every supervisor and manager is punjabi in amazon, they will only promote/refer the punjabi guy/girl no matter how pathetic they are with work ethics,. Even philipino community works same way..The job and promotion u get wholly depends on whom u know, not what u know

For people who have had the opportunity to move out, coming to India for a vacation reinforces the view that it is still a third-world-country. Here are some observations:
1) Garbage strewn all over the place.
2) Pollution as you have mentioned of both air and sound. Incessant honking and a host of various other noises drive you up the wall and the automobile exhaust makes it hard to breathe.
3) Open defecation and urination.
4) People spitting all over the place.
5) No road sense. Indian drivers follow road rules that do not match international standards.
6) Animals such as cows and dogs neglected and freely roaming cities and towns, often eating from overflowing garbage dumps by the roadside.
7) Low hygiene standards in restaurants and roadside eating places. Eating out could result in intensive wicketkeeping for a prolonged period of time.
8) No clean public restrooms.
9) Plenty of slums with people living in very abysmal and extremely substandard conditions.
10) Scammers all over the place ready to make a quick buck off of people who obviously appear like visitors.

That definition is not applicable today as it was used in the Cold War, and if you go by the very definition it’s for countries where maximum GDP is contributed by agriculture. And that’s not the case for India. And as far as other things are concerned in some places yes garbage is thrown but that’s not true for all places you haven’t seen other parts of India have you if you go to Kerala or Northeast or even Tamil Nadu for that matter you see that the streets are very clean, there a pass parts of India which are really beautiful like Goa. As far as open defecations is concerned do you know the latest statistics that it has come down almost 20 but certainly the axis is increase even if it is not totally absolute zero . And if we go by that logic of open defecations than United States of America needs to be called seven world country because people in America are doing open defecations now and there also urinating. I’m not going to deny that India needs to work on sanitation, some good things have happened over the past decades and some good things are happening right now and a lot needs to be done. But I feel in all case scenario India needs to be respected as a country

I gave up my Indian citizenship for Australian citizenship and then took over Canadian citizenship in 2018. The best decision of my life cause the level of intolerance that has risen in India since 2014 , which is leading me to identify myself more of as Australian Canadian than Indian . I had to get my Mom out of the country and thankfully she this year became a Canadian Permanent Resident and will in 3 years time become a Canadian citizen herself, thus finishing my ties with the country where I was born & brought up. With the current toxic political/religious situation , I am petrified to even set my foot in India. Sad state of affairs indeed.

Reasons are simple- STANDARDS OF LIVING WHICH IS SADLY, DECLINING WITH TIME IN INDIA !!
There are multiple others too- Financial, Social, Cultural, Academic and Political!! Also, INDIA DOES NOT PROVIDE DUAL CITIZENSHIP- WHICH, I THINK, IT SHOULD PROVIDE!! It will be helpful for many if External Affairs Ministry changes these rules!!!

At least people in Kerala and Punjab are educated enough to get a job abroad. If BJP states are performing well people from Kerala and Punjab prefer to go those states instead of leaving country. Well clearly because of the regressive tax laws. Do you know anyone who is freelancing with foreign clients say design or software is considered export so you are supposed to pay 30% Income tax and 18% GST on top of it. So 48% of your income as an enterprising person goes to the government. Not to mention those extra Kisan Nidhi + Education Cess etc ... And Then the rising inflation and free food is given to 80 crore beggars who Give vote to the government. Who wants to literally pay for their own oppression? Meanwhile. the middle class and upper middle-class are working hard to get nothing. At least in the west the government take care of you and pay you social security cheques. In the end Modi will be left with his Jamat of Unproductive bhajan snorting bhakti , Unproductive beggars called Labharthis and The flat surface of Amit Shah's head. And Modi''s unyielding politics. Its very simple i am not a son of politician or a rich family. I am middle class with good education and skills which i earned with my hard earned money. I am happy now outside India and rich compared to most of my neighbours. And I never go to greet and meet Politicians arriving here. The same time i spend working for my company and country where i live now.

I left India..... I have seen extremely difficult life as an immigrant student in new country.... My life was horrible here but still i did not came back to India. What is the reason? ..... Its bcoz of no job opportunities. After getting engineering degree and 4 years of experience.... We are getting job in ed techs in sales position with salary of 15k INR for working 12hrs a day.... There also, managers abuse us daily and there is no ethics.... Company fire people within 2 months since they are not able to sustain their business.
I want to come back, but with what hope should i come back? Again work for 12hrs every day to get 15k INR per month.

@@lipsadas7051 Changing citizenship is always a personal decision obviously. These people aren't excommunicated from India or any asylum seekers. Also, different countries have different amount of time required to aquire citizenahip. It also doesn't negate the fact that every year more young Indians are leaving India to work abroad. The whole reason why more andore Indians leave to work in other countries is because they don't get good opportunities In India. Kids are even learning other languages besides English so they can go and work/study in non English speaking developed countries. This paired with highest unemployment rate in over 45 years paints a bleak picture of the state of affairs in the country right now.
People are leaving India because India is going from bad to worst and the govt is not able to control this. Very said situation. India has so much to offer but the govt is making a mess of it. Every family down south has their members working abroad. Itnis TRUE that everybody in India has the dreams to migrate to US for the simple reason that " you live only once and living right ONCE is enough" Down south we pay migrants more salary then their own state, which os possible only because they work abroad. The government does not identify and rectify the failure of these states and keeps on encouraging migration arbitrarily whereby these southern states feel that the only way to sustain is to go abroad. Now comes the dual citizenship issue and with that also the other issues such as polarization, hate mongering, taxation which is very high, makes the citizen to renounce th3 citizenship and move to more safer, greener pastures. . The so called sponsored troll army keeps on saying " GO TO PAKISTAN" is another reason that people will move out in days to come

Not always to escape. I moved abroad couple of decades back as my job always needed to be in the west most of the time. It's not always easy to keep traveling when you have a young family. We had to surrender the Indian passport as there is no option of dual citizenship with Indian passports. It's more to make the travel and access easier than love/hate for a country.

The # 1 reason is that INDIA doesn't allow dual citizenship, the US does allow it, and so does Canada, because of the Indian government law many Indians are forced to give up their Indian citizenship. If just India allows dual citizenship, you won't have this problem, I myself would have kept dual citizenship in 1988.
Those giving up citizenship invest 1-2 years residency application and 7-10 years naturalisation+citizenship application. Mr Presenter - which government do you want to blame NDA or UPA?

did engineering from a college 2017,all my friends went to canada,europe and i decided to stay in india
didnt get the placement hence, decided to go for govt exams.
being a general category failed many exams by one or 2 marks.
now cleared one exam level 4 which i applied for in 2020 still waiting for joining.
where as my friends bought their houses already. have a decent car(bmw/audi) earning in 7 figures.
wish i had gone with them. but on the other hand i dont wanna leave my parents alone.
its better to leave. your parents would be happy seeing you succeed
