Reservation will give opportunity not equality. Diversity Training: WHY Indian upper caste do not get enraged for violence against dalits the way white people in west fight for rights of non whites. Recently many people discussed this issue on social media ( you tube atleast some dalit media channels.) There are many reasons. Biggest one is theory of karma , which makes people believe dalits deserve the life they got due to past life karmas and any thing they get to mitigate their bad situation is non deserving and kind of favor to them. This is at subconscious level and people hardly recognize it. But let's keep that for other time as it by itself a very deep and broad topic.Another reason is white guilt against racism vs Caste pride in subcontinent. Let's keep that for some other time as well. Coming to the issue: BECAUSE most people don't see caste system as an Issue or atleast their issue. They don't see how caste system has harmed nation for miliniums and still doing it. For educated upper caste: they see some intercaste marriage between upper castes and declare caste system non existent. Most of them know Caste system through reservation system and start hating undeserving lower castes because they do not know and are not taught history of the land and why we came to this point. For them it's unjust ( technically they are right it's positive descrimination in favor of dalits) and need to go. When upper caste say real issue is economic status and reservation should be on that basis they have middle class or poor in mind but they have no idea what actual poverty is in villages and condition of poorest which belong to dalit Community. They can't see that these dalits are not only kept poor but exploited and humiliated for generations and it's high time upper caste India realize how selfish they are being when they choose to ignore this fact. Conversely, you see in West presence of "White guilt" where white people are ready accept historic wrong doings and are ready to fight to amend it. That is due to education and diversity Training. They are not taught how for thousands of years dalits were not allowed into temples, segregated from society and only after constitution they got basic human rights. They don't realize how this issue threatens national security as well( naxalite movement). They don't realize how caste system among upper caste also is detrimental to the unity of nation. Is Caste based politics not hindrance and threat to unity of nation. Stark inequality is a recognized threat to democracy and prosperity in any society. Don't we need to address that? They are not taught in school why India remain segregated compared to societies around globe due to caste system. There are similar things like caste in other countries but nothing as vicious as Caste system. Example: In my school ( one of the best in Gujarat at the time) mostly attended by upper caste ( jains, Patel, Bania, Brahmin) they would announce list of castes ( lower caste) and if you belong to any of them you go to office in the middle of lecture. Then they ask if your parents earn enough or you need to apply for certain assistance , if not you need to submit a letter in writing. Class used to burst into laughing when they announce these castes because most of the these caste names are used as curse words in Local language. This is their experience with other lower caste. Teachers also used to laugh but missed opportunity to teach students that just how proudly they say their caste some are cursed to be in caste which is curse word for no fault of theirs ( karma theory comes in to play here) and that is wrong. No need to say No religious diversity as well. ******** Solution: ********* What we can really use is diversity Training program like in US , starting from primary school to college and work place. In this we can include all kinds of descrimination ( handicap, gender, race (north east people, ) , regional biases, sexual orientation and caste descrimination. People should learn what kind of behavior is not appropriate, not legal, how to identify it, what are your legal rights, how can you help prevent it. Media can help spread awareness too. Remember : " Mile sur Mera tumhara" or " Chalo padhaye kuch Kar dikhaye". School kids can have projects like making pen friends ( Facebook) from other religions, other caste, from different backgrounds. Summer project can be to educate some one illiterate. You can be creative and sky is the limit. Trips to local village where people still practicing these descrimination. This will create awareness and pressure to get rid of caste system based and other descrimination. Dr Ambedkar said unless people share bread, birth, death , joy and sorrows together they will not feel cohesion in their hearts. People need to know women ( Common women)did not have right to property and inheritance until constitution gave them that right. In absence of that knowledge they just hate Dr Ambedkar as someone who has imposed reservation for dalits and hate him along with dalits. In really Dr Ambedkar had to resign fighting for these rights for women ( Hindu code bill) and not a single leader of the time supported him and hindy leaders vehemently opposed it.( We were not that liberal as we are told, and we still aren't compared to West) These things need to be discussed and debated. But how many social science students study such things? In villages people still don't mingle in each others birth, death and marriage ceremony, seperate cemetery, seperate well. A lot need to be done. This is a proven thing which has worked in US and West, can work in India as well. Only change in attitude will bring equality. We need to ask for this in every State and national level this should be implemented. There are other things that can be donebut that for other time. Please start spreading word (email to people in power,in person what ever way) we have lost 73 years can't wait anymore. But unfortunately, contrary to what is required, there is a big movement going on in which they deny there is or ever was Caste descrimination in India. Bharat was a healthy democracy from 1947-1976 without being secular. secularism was put in constitution during emergency(by the influence of soviet union's ''state atheism'').when they r majority they demand shariya, but in minority they demand secularism.
Western European countries are most progressive and developed countries because they separate state and politics. India is only a developing country so to work with each other, develop science and develop as nation we should separate religion with state and politics. If we aren’t secular we will become like Iran or Iraq or Syria or like other middle eastern countries where women have no equal rights. People should first learn what secularism actually means before they start debating. Secularism only means that it is not subject to religious rule. India is a diverse country with myriad religions so it is important that we are secular otherwise, it becomes conflict of interest boosting distrust in the central government. This is why we have to elect an unbiased political party at the central level. Not someone who boosts building a Ram temple as a proud moment for the country (clearly , to instigate sensitive religious people and build their vote bank).
While you were flaunting Temple building, You forgotted about Banglore riots, Tahir Hussain, the terrorists attacked that happened all through out the countries during the UPA regime who did it,From where did the Kashmir situation came I am not saying all Muslims are like that, Surely No. But I hate those people who sit silent and do not outrage against it. Why do we don't speak against Islamic radicalism and it's threat?
Harsh Chaturvedi You are mixing up too many things here. I am just talking about secularism and the aspect of separating state and politics. It applies to all religions to stay out of politics and our PM should also not flaunt about Ram temple. It is very shameful and causes insecurity to many other individuals who do not have the same religious value system that our PM and central government is biased. This is a very dangerous sign.
@@sgvrmm I really agree with most of your points but at the same time Modi government came into power with the promise of building ram mandir and this was one of the reasons for the government winning such an enormous seats. AYUSH KUMAR That is the sad part. To begin with Modi government didn’t find any other way but to stoop to these low level politics to earn votes from the innocents who could be easily lured based on their religious values. It is not correct to show that india is only Hindu country despite majority Hindu population. If tables are turned how would you feel? I understand that our neighbor Pakistan treats Hindus very poorly but at the same time our country foundation has always been different. It has been a land for all religions and to coexist has been its beauty and one shouldn’t break this bond between people. Sadly , it seems like there is no other way for politicians. Modi always make a political statement with saffron dressing and his conduct it is very clear that he is biased. In fact he used to be a RSS worker and these ties with RSS are scary which used to be foundational values for the Nazis.
The problem is not with secularism. The problem is the nehruvian flawed secularism the so called liberals practise where criticizing Hinduism is freedom of speech but criticizing islam is blasphemy.
The fact that there is a debate on whether secularism is essential or not shows how far we have fallen. Secularism is paramount for the existence of democracy there should be no qualms about that.
@@jojyrocks don't be stupid, the very meaning of secularism is to remain neutral. You don't have too 'faaar right or left', the system is either secular or it's not. @@farhatkhan1686 In your opinion, why is it that most Muslim majority regimes today and in the past have, to put it lightly, not been secular or pluralistic? And if there is something fundamentally anti-secular about Islam as a worldview, why should it be tolerated in secular society?
For a "Democracy" (rule of the people, rule by the people and rule for the people through elected representative) like India (a plural country where several religion created and adopted) it is necessary to strike a balance between rights and voices of the people. For that we need a nation which is tolerant in terms of choices, opinion and religion, here comes the role of government to implement the policy of secularism. In the absence of secularism majoritarian could try to impose their choices, opinion and religion on other people which are in minority. In the absence of secularism we could experience the same which happen with persecuted minorities in several nation, which happen with Black people in US. I think it is definitly necessary for democracy to have a character of secularism in it.
pseudonym first example Iftar parties with the people’s money but nothing like that for Christmas, Diwali, Durga Puja, Holi, Vaishakhi, Paryushan, Janmashmi, Ram Nawami, Sarswati Puja, Easter, etc. Would not you call it appeasement?
secularism is very much required for democracy. Deepa says she practices hinduism, but she cannot say she is an Ideal hindu. Thus it distorts the hindu beliefs and culture. Ghandhi and periyaar did not participate in politics , because you have to cut corners, distort the religious message to win an election. Deepa should be open to criticisms of her religion and beliefs otherwise she should not be public about her beliefs. For e.g. Modi laid the foundation for Ram temple. The reason he/his party gives is , mughals destryoed the temple 500 years ago, so they are going to destroy masjid and build Ram temple. Ghandhi once said, an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind. This act of Modi, cannot be accepted as a Hindu belief rather he has become a bad example. This is the very reason why we need secularism in our country.
UK has a state religion and is also a democracy so there's the proof by contradiction that democracy needs secularism. I also think Gandhi's saying is too facile. It recommends submission in the face of oppression, something Hindus are unfortunately all too familiar with. If a person is going around poking people's eyes out, all others have a responsibility to destroy this eye-poker for universal peace and good.

Madame shubrata claims one of the reason she rejects secularism is because it's a forgein term. Well democracy, republic, party etc, are also forgein terms and BJP has the word party in it. I rest my case. Nehru identified secularism as a possible source of dogma and this is what he said at a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary towards the end of his life: ‘Secularism is not a happy word. It does not mean we are anti-religious, it just means India is not formally entitled to any religion as a nation’
If all the muslims in india can get together and help the kashmiri hindus and sikhs resettle in the valley and help them get their homes, money and jobs back, then i don't mind India being secular. If all the muslims and christians of india agree that they will not convert others thru foul means like money, brain washing of poor illiterates then I don't mind India being secular.
NDTV hosting debate on ‘secularism’ is like asking Pakistani army to respect people of every religion. These fake psuedo journalists are bane to society when they provide cover to hard core communal Islamists & present them as liberal seculars. LOL
Muslims multiply...but the other religions (Like Christians, stay single. Muslims are too conservative on marriage matters and they like having kids and lots of them...western nations like to live single and they keep complaining of Muslim population rising. There is a reason why birth rate in some most western nations and Asian nation like Japan have very low numbers as most people are due to many circumstances stay single. So PART OR HALF of the problem is the OTHER religion or non Muslims as well. Or the solution could be to force a law on restrictions on how many kids they could have etc...if they are immigrants and some nations have problem with Muslims. No point in complaining... Secularism is good...but need to keep balance.

The real test of your opposition to secularism comes when you are in the minority. The title of the debate does not mention India. So would the people opposing secularism here also oppose it in USA? Would they cheer if USA prevented Hindus from entering government services, forced children to say Christian prayers in all schools, banned temples, put beef extract into all foods etc?
How could Indian courts recognise Sharia-based Muslim Personal Law while claiming to be secular? How could Central and State governments take over the management of Hindu temples if they were secular? How could a secular government provide financial assistance to educational institutions run by religious organisations? How could a secular government codify and modify Hindu personal law? How would the government extend the existing caste-based reservations to minority religions if it were secular?
The concept of secularism is NON-UNIFORM. From where it originally comes, it simply means seperation of the state and the religion. In a way, it will mean that Sikhs can't wear turban in the parliament, Christians can't wear the cross etc. India is not and can never be secular in this way, which is why originally it wasn't used in the constitution. You just cannot seperate the religion completely in India. Everyone in the debate interpreted the term in their own ways and thus had different views. Miss Saba herself said "For me, secularism is...". If it's happening like this, what VALUE does the word 'secularism' hold? Any person can make up his definition of secular and follow it, whether it be ideal or not. This forms the root for misuse of the term. Politicians have manipulated the term in their favour, according to their convenience since 44 years😱. We have been literally fooled. Agreed that there are many aspects that we Indians should follow, but at least don't feed the people lies!.. First ensure that your country understands the principles, follows it and then announce it. China calls itself democratic, but is it? We can't even define secularism in the Indian context unanimously but we do beat the drums of secularism. God bless the future generations! They will live in illusion.

NDTV use word hindu mob and forget to mention about other mobs relegion name, that is not secularism ..When they start just calling them as mob secularism will prevail in NDTV as well.
I think that they were deviating from the very concept of secularism in indian context.. as the secularim that we have adopted is far different from the westerm countries which says that state should kept apart from the religion and should maintain equal distance from all religion unlike indian secularism which says that in india state should maintain equal proximity with all the religions i.e state is not separated from the religion but it is close with every religion and indian state will respect every religion in that country... so basically no one was coming to that point and all were simply discussing about past and the word secularism and not about its present relevance and how is it going against to uniform civil code( whether going or not)..
How!????!!! You are so ignorant and have no clue. False propaganda. Sweden is a developed country. Otherwise it will cease to have some practical effect on the decisions and policies of the people and the govt. Thank you _/\_
It doesn't depend on Hindus whether to practise sarva-Dharma-Respect since Hinduism doesn't survive on exclusivism, procilytization. Sarva-Dharma-Respect is enshrined in the core principle of Hinduism. But when other Abrahamic Regions follow same idea, the core pillars of those religions fall apart...
Sanket secularism is not simple as choosing sides and voting down for as you choose between India vs Pakistan cricket game. Secularism in itself is much more complex framework and it can only be viewed (put in practice) and not defined (in theory) as in any given big nations. By that I mean, everybody rather every religion has their own version of how they 'view' or 'practice' secularism and unifying that view isn't that simple and hence the conflicts as we see today are evident. There's no other way around simplifying the concept secularism but to accept it as it is and look for how this 'view' can evolve over the period of time and tame it with law and order if it gets out of control.
Did Sita move out of the place on her own, happily or was she left in the woods without her knowledge? So many versions, wonder which is the correct one. Diversity Training: WHY Indian upper caste do not get enraged for violence against dalits the way white people in west fight for rights of non whites.
Recently many people discussed this issue on social media ( you tube atleast some dalit media channels.)
There are many reasons.
Coming to the issue:
BECAUSE most people don't see caste system as an Issue or atleast their issue.
Example:
In my school ( one of the best in Gujarat at the time) mostly attended by upper caste ( jains, Patel, Bania, Brahmin) they would announce list of castes ( lower caste) and if you belong to any of them you go to office in the middle of lecture.

Solution:

What we can really use is diversity Training program like in US , starting from primary school to college and work place.
In really Dr Ambedkar had to resign fighting for these rights for women ( Hindu code bill) and not a single leader of the time supported him and hindy leaders vehemently opposed it.( We were not that liberal as we are told, and we still aren't compared to West)
These things need to be discussed and debated.
There is a big effort to blame whole thing on British ( Check Rajiv Malhotra, subramaniam swami etc on UA-cam).
If we don't accept problem how and when are we going to solve it.

In Indian context secularism is meaningless...
For Abrahamik Religion secularism is necessary....
secularism was put in constitution during emergency(by the influence of soviet union's ''state atheism'').when they r majority they demand shariya, but in minority they demand secularism.
While you were flaunting Temple building, You forgotted about Banglore riots, Tahir Hussain, the terrorists attacked that happened all through out the countries during the UPA regime who did it,From where did the Kashmir situation came

Harsh Chaturvedi You are mixing up too many things here. I am just talking about secularism and the aspect of separating state and politics. It applies to all religions to stay out of politics and our PM should also not flaunt about Ram temple. In the absence of secularism we could experience the same which happen with persecuted minorities in several nation, which happen with Black people in US. secularism is very much required for democracy.

What we can really use is diversity Training program like in US , starting from primary school to college and work place.
There is a big effort to blame whole thing on British ( Check Rajiv Malhotra, subramaniam swami etc on UA-cam).
If we don't accept problem how and when are we going to solve it.
no you are so wrong its absolutely mental
you don't fight racism by inventing it
Dont worry people sill r going to ignore it
Bharat is DHARMA NIRPEKSH last 5000 years!!!
1947 Muslims Vote For Pakistan And Stays in India To Teach Hindus Secularism!!
What NONSENSE ???
Please bring in more learned debators. This debates was all but shallow.
You mean to say intellectuals from Bengal should be brought
For the motion is quite educated and logical
Subramaniya Swamy of BJP is comparing Saudi Arabia with India , It is equal to comparing mustard with Mountain.
I vote for deepa mam and subhrastha mam.....
Very good
The real test of your opposition to secularism comes when you are in the minority. The title of the debate does not mention India. So would the people opposing secularism here also oppose it in USA? Would they cheer if USA prevented Hindus from entering government services, forced children to say Christian prayers in all schools, banned temples, put beef extract into all foods etc?
Why this debate now, is govt doing any amendment on secularism?
finally some relief in seeing debates
Hindus debating about secularism...
Instead of securalism being dabated on,debated about the PM attending only Hindu mandir inaugurations and never a mosque or churches....
And why does the debate not include people of all religions...its bias and unprofessional
Respect for All faiths , very correct sir
Dharma Is Quite different from Religion....
To say that Secularism is a western construct and so not necessary for India is nothing but Insecurity! If one is to go down that road, then is Democracy also a western construct and so not applicable to Indians? Because historically and factually speaking there wasn't democracy as it's known today when India was govern by royal families!
Secular he hum, jab tak humari jaban pe ho lagam.
Same case for me also, as per your way of thinking. 😁
Can't believe we are debating on a debate that is part of the Preamble of our Constitution.
Can't understand why NDTV had to do such a useless debate and just see the panelists. Such useless panellist against the topic. Why the hell are you bringing them to debate?
Can’t believe leftist and communists and Islamists use this secularism to oppress Hindus and we still are fine with this term forcebly introduced in constitution
@ Partha Pratik Secularism may be in the constitution , but the problem is that the present government does not practice it and neither it's supporters . Way to go NDTv , doing a great job !
@@austin426512 It's the other way around , people like you and the present gov't are the oppressors
Farhat Khan oppressor of Terrorist org ISIS and PFI ?? Hahah don’t read Quran much
@@austin426512 it's my humble request not to believe in things without reading it yourself and analyze it yourself ... Please please read some history and polity... Just the basic books to find out the secularism ... Secularism is not about supporting isi that a very very wrong perspective ...
Under the name of secularism imagine for a few moments, India becoming an Islamic Country, just like other countries in the world having been Islamized, this whole debate will overturn.
Yes Of course it is essential..... But not the one which metamorphoses to minority appeasement. First organize a debate on What does Secularism means in the first place...? Many are confused!
I am trying to understand both sides, but I couldn't help but notice the use of the word 'Atheism' in the wrong place. Atheists don't think all religions are the same.
Only Pavan & Shubhrastha are convincing.
Firstly it is refreshing to see a clean, informed and civilized debate between well educated panelists and a very neutral, unbiased moderator (host). I congratulate NDTV for this initiative. Need more of this format on television.
Subrashtra ji is great and correct.
ji, she is hot and stupid.

not happening
Secularism is beauty of india
why any one have problem with secularism ?
Should ask the 20 countries with Islam as their state religion.
@Butterfly lover The fundamental question is why tolerate a palpably non-secular ideology such as Islam in a secular country. Obviously accept the individual Muslims who call India home, but why Islam?
NDTV use word hindu mob and forget to mention about other mobs relegion name, that is not secularism ..When they start just calling them as mob secularism will prevail in NDTV as well.
Pavan Varma is good on the issue of how politician create secular politics not applied true secularism.
Are we are seriously debating this?
Yes secularism burnt sweden
How!????!!! You are so ignorant and have no clue. False propaganda. Sweden is a developed country. India is only a developing country so to work with each other, develop science and develop as nation we should separate religion with state and politics. If we aren’t secular we will become like Iran or Iraq or Syria etc.
@ SG VRM , how do you justify it was peacefull by speaking "Ola hu Uber " ?
Is islam so weak that just by commenting on that, it makes it weak and makes you to retaliate by Killing that guy
@@sgvrmm i have replied to you in comments do check.
How was Riots in Sweden peaceful by people shouting OLA HU UBER ?
Is that religion so weak that someone burns your holy book in retaliation to the MURDER OF TWO KIDS WHO REFUSED TO BUY DRUGS.
KEEP yourself in that situation.
Burning the city because somebody abused your religion.
Quite peaceful of you.
Secularism also burnt Bengaluru
Secularism is in constitution itself,
So there is no need of debate on that.
Who won ?
The motion debating for secularism, are themselves pointing out that secularism was never followed in India. Secularism was added to the constitution and the Republic wasn't even asked?!
There is no point holding debates now, however insightful they may be. These debates, coupled with related mass votings on such tight issues could have held before the constitution was made.
Also, the needs and aspirations of a country changes from time to time. There should be a provision for making important changes to it according to the needs of the time. Otherwise it will cease to have some practical effect on the decisions and policies of the people and the govt. Thank you _/\_
If you sincerely research about Islam you will find secularism democracy liberalism and free from all injustice and peace.
So implement sharia Law.
we need Sarv Dharm Sama Bhava which has been for very long time and this should be the meaning of secularism in Indian context.
Buycott Congress and SP Party in India
Secularism = State has nothing to do with religion.
Does eating cow comes under Sarv Dharm Sambhav!
belongs not belongings
Did Sita move out of the place on her own, happily or was she left in the woods without her knowledge? So many versions, wonder which is the correct one.
Also, if we have the word secularism in the constitution how will it impact the governance of the country? And if we remove the word secularism from the constitution how will it benefit the country?
Don't mess with South Indians. You North dominated Hindiwalas made up stories and grab to power. SOUTH Indian won't believe such venom. You can call it by any name. But Mahatama Gandhi, the father of nation, always loved every one and respected all religions and faiths. I stand for that and so does Indian Democracy.
@Butterfly lover nobody is bound to practice it you fool.... Constitution is mandatory upon state not individuals... Why people are so dumb
Those gandhi silent oh mopallah riot even Ambedkar condemn .
