I really like the way they injected more R&B into it. And then a little bit of Doo-Wop later on. And I find that one run that Eli, J & Earl do all together just amazing.
J does have quite a range. He goes up pretty high here. Not quite as high as in "Lion Sleeps Tonight", but still really up there. And yet he is categorized as a Bass by the Navy choral group to which he is assigned. I do know that when VP was touring, he would sometimes fill in the bass background part when Geoff sang lead. (Surprisingly, Eli can do so, too - less surprising is when Layne does it, but that happens less often since he's busy with the beats).

The simultaneous runs from Eli, J, and Earl near the end is just wonderful. Even with notes set as music rather than improvised runs, to get the pitch moving so perfectly in synch is stunning.
Thanks for your reaction! Yes, as you know J None is singing bass with the Navy but has an amazing skill set of singing high, rapping, beatboxing as well. You would really enjoy Voice Play's cover of "Superstition" and J None's solo channel as well ( my favorite is "Who Gon Stop Me".)

This was my first introduction to VP, having heard Chris Stapleton's original. It's still one of my favourites. The harmonies, the smoothness, just blew my mind. And of course, Geoff. :) J's high notes are outstanding, especially knowing he is now singing bass for the navy's Sea Chanters.
J is also known as Mr Smooth - for a reason! This was amazing - and the ambiance/setting is also on point! 🌹🕊

If you get a chance, see Sue Bonnette who recorded VoicePlay w/Omar Cardona at Chicago and Friends singing their hearts out last Nov 17-18. Chicago had gotten wind of their Nothing Else Matters (Metallica) and invited them to join them on stage at the concert.
