- This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. History and innovation from a master of the six-string
Eliot Fisk is a living legend in the world of the classical guitar. Since playing his first solo concert at he age of 13, he has performed the world over in recital, as soloist with orchestra, in numerous chamber music combinations and in numerous cross-over and inter-disciplinary events.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
I was honoured to study three years in the masterclass of Eliot Fisk at the university Mozarteum in Salzburg/Austria.
Since I was a boy in the 80's, I recognized him to be not only one of the real great guitar virtuoses of our time, but one unique artist and a real philanthropic great human being.
His guitar playing may not be as "well polished" as is is from some other guitarists, but it is always deep, true and based on a unbelievable knowledge and abilities far beyond many, many others, I met in my life.
It´s true that his his technique is not as polished as most of guitarrists but the originality of some ideas and the round and powerful sound he gets is really moving.I´d like to ask you if Fisk has ever talked about his right hand position(break wrist) which seems very natural and relaxed, more than straight wrist position that most of guitarrists use now.
Se agradece el tributo del Maestro Fisk, al gran revolucionario de la Guitarra, Agustín Barrios "Mangore".
Barrios was an absolute genius!!!
A unique player for me. He seems more interested in musical exploration and interpretation than many of his more refined peers. Second only to Segovia in expressiveness IMO.
Brillant!
The classical guitar will always sound its best when it sounds like it is in the hands of a peasant....not a polished perfect performance which sacrifices the emotional content. For me, an incredible performance from Eliot Fisk.
Andre Reginato Have to disagree with you there buddy... I think a master of the guitar who understands the technique will be much more capable of unleashing the emotion because they'll have the proper tools to do so.. As opposed to a peasant who will not be able to achieve such desired sounds because they won't know how. :)
Revolution and innovation in guitar... This is just parody
What is wrong with this man? . ..
Fisk shouldn't be representing the classical guitar. Get someone else next time.
Kevin Toine why? Just curious? Who then? The best ones are dead.. Williams, Romero, seem obsessed with a clean and boring same sound. Bream and Segovia are my favorites!
I love everything Eliot Fist plays on the guitar! He is so unique. If you want to hear a pristine performance of RDAL for the 1000 time there are many excellent concert guitarists who can do this, and I enjoy them as well. But to me, Fisk plays with such passion and character it is wonderful to listen to.
