Just a thought, a hardware remote that communicates via USB through the computer to move the EVO front panel to the desktop when the EVO is out of reach (rack mounted away or in the control room away from a single person recording themselves.
I’m looking to get a portable interface that carries 8 or more outputs. Quick question, is it possible to route the headphone outputs to DAW 9/10 and 11/12? I saw that the ADAT outputs are by default 9-16 and 17-24.
Can I use it for 5.1 surround monitoring? Looks like it is limited to choose only 2 channels in seperate sets? As output device in windows, you can t choose just Audient Evo 16 with access to route to all of the channels?
Can you gang three of these together and use the smart gain feature across all the units? If so, will all three need to connect to the PC via USB, or would the second and third units be connected to the primary via optical cable?
I'm afraid it's not possible to daisy chain multiple EVO 16's together on the same computer. Instead, we'd recommend using EVO 16 as the host and then adding ADAT pre-amp units such as the ASP800 or ASP880 to increase the channel count.
Yes, you can use the 8 line outputs to feed a mixer using the DAW THRU function in the mixer. You can also add an additional 16 output channels using the digital outputs using an ADAT compatible DAC.
We've bought the EVO by Audient EVO 16 & 2 x EVO SP8, 24-input Recording Bundle. We use this at our band rehearsals with a full band. How do we connect in ear monitors to this? Can we use the outputs? Is there a way to mix my own monitor?
You can connect in-ears to the headphone outputs of the EVO 16, or you can connect a headphone amp to the line outputs of either EVO 16 or SP8. You can create monitor mixes using the CUE mix functionality in the EVO software mixer.
It is technically possible but not what the EVO 16 was designed for, a single EVO 16 with a dedicated pre-amp unit such as the ASP800 would be a more elegant setup.
I'm slightly disappointed that there is no way to monitor inputs through headphone outs on the EVO16 if the interface is not selected in macos as the main out. I was hoping we could maintain internal routing and monitoring of microphones on EVO while using different interface as output from DAW...
This should be possible on the EVO 16, you'd just need to open the EVO mixer app and pull up the faders for the Mic 1-8 tracks which will send them directly to the headphone outputs with almost zero latency. This should work regardless of whether the unit is the main output device on your Mac or not.
First off, Thank you Audient for putting out what looks to be a great product. The 8 channels is something I was hoping for. I was hoping for Thunderbolt 3 but maybe the next interface. I am also looking at the ASP800 and ASP880 to make the 24 tracks. My question is; If I have the EVO 16 and either the ASP800 or ASP880 or both using ADAT. Will the Smart Gain function work to set the volume on the ASP800/880 units as weld or does it only work on the EVO 16 unit itself? I was happy to see your reply about the Mac M1 and that EVO 16 is compatible with it. Thank you for your time and have a great day. Stay safe and may God bless..... Jon
The Smartgain function will only work on the built-in pre-amps of the EVO 16 I'm afraid. As the ASP880 and ASP800 use fully analogue pre-amp controls, there's no way we can remotely set the gain in the same way we can on the EVO's.
@@weareevoaudio I thought that maybe the case but I wasn't sure. Thank you for the quick reply. I'm on the pre-order list at Sweetwater for one when they are shipped. Audient Rocks!!!! Have a great weekend. Stay safe and may God bless 🙏✝️
Looks great! One step away from ordering this. Would love to know if I can use this with my hybrid Eurorack setup! Are the inputs DC Coupled to receive CV signals?
You can run the EVO 16 and the iD14 together as an aggregate device on macOS, but this isn't possible on Windows. It wouldn't be ideal to connect the two via ADAT.
Somebody please help me. I have been unable to change the Sample Rate on my EVO 16. I am attempting to send the optical out into my apollo twin x, but it's defaulted to 96khz. I would like to use 48khz so that I can use all 8 inputs. I have scoured the internet but been unable to find where to adjust the sample rate on the interface. Please help.
The sample rate adjustment is done on the computer it is connected to. If you are on macOS, you can do it from the Audio MIDI setup or if you are on WIndows, you can do it directly from the EVO Mixer's setup menu. Once you've done this you can go to Setup > Store Standalone in the EVO mixer to store thsi setting to the unit itself so you can use the EVO 16 without a computer connected.
This isn't normal behaviour. Firstly, can you try a different USB port on your PC to see if this changes the behaviour? I'd also check that your computer's system drives (Graphics, Chipset...etc) are all up to date.
You certainly can, you'd just connect the Compressor to one of the line outputs of the EVO 16 and bring it back in again on one of the Line inputs. You'd just then need to route the audio from your DAW to the output using the mixer application.
Will the interface work without a computer? One of my issues with the EVO 8 was that I always needed a computer connected for it to work. I use my interface for getting my TV audio into my speakers
The EVO 16 has a 'Standalone State Mode". This allows you to save a setup to the unit itself and it will default to this setup whenever it's powered up, even if not connected to a PC. This therefore could be used to connect your TV up to your speakers.
The EVO 16 will be rolling out in stores worldwide over the next month or so. You can find your local dealers here for more info: evo.audio/where-to-buy/
The EVO 16 uses USB2.0 data over a USB-C connection as this is more than enough for the 50 channels of audio the EVO handles which means the EVO 16 can be used with practically any modern computer. You can find more information about USB audio and how we implement it here: audient.com/tutorial/usb-in-audio/
Yup! 8 analog inputs, 16 digital inputs, 10 analog line outputs, 2 headphone outs (4 channels) and 16 digital outputs gives a total of 52 audio channels that can be used at the same time.
Can you check your apps have access to the Mic. Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Microphone and ensure that each App you use has a ticket next to it?
You can turn the EVO 16 by pressing and holding the Main Encoder down and selecting "Power Off" from the Settings menu. The EVO 16 can then be powered up again by pressing the the encoder again.
@@weareevoaudio was able to use it on a paid session the day after i got the unit. @@weareevoaudio just a quick one. Is there an improved performance if i use this on a Mac system (usb c to thunderbolt)? I plan to switch to an Apple M1 ecosystem. I want to make sure if it's worth the investment.
The EVO 16 will work the same regardless of the computer it is connected to. However, there will likely be other performance benefits from the M1 outside of this.

The EVO 16 only provides monitor control for stereo outputs and it's only possible to select stereo pairs as outputs in Windows System audio.

The inputs are DC blocked so it's not possible to receive CV from the inputs. You can send CV signals out of the outputs however.

You can run the EVO 16 and the iD14 together as an aggregate device on macOS, but this isn't possible on Windows.

This isn't currently possible but may be something we can add through a firmware update so watch this space!
Is it great for 5.1 home studio setup?
I'm afraid it won't act as a monitor controller for a 5.1 setup. If you wanted to use a 5.1 setup, you'd need an external monitor controller.
WHERE DO YOU SET THE SAMPLE RATE??? On SP8 there's a menu option on the settings screen. WHY NOT HERE????!!!!
The Sample rate is either controlled via the Audio MIDI Setup app on macOS or from the EVO mixer software on Windows.
