yeah i respect RIOT honestly for this type of practices they don't really care about if they lose money or not on a project if it's not looking up to be good commercially and would probably ruin their brand because they produced a half ass product they'd rather just scratch it and start over than get a short term cashout and probably bad reviews so just their history of them not wanting to produce mediocre sht and is willing to redo entire projects just so they can upgrade the quality is respectable already

Agreed. I know a few voices on Riot's side have expressed... concern, in the past. Concern with Necrit's tendency to portray things somewhat inaccurately or jump to conclusions, but he's honestly gotten a lot better with that and I attribute most of it to him being ESL. At the end of the day, I'm sure every game company would love to have a creator like Necrit who's deeply passionate about their product and can reach a wide audience and share that passion. Riot defiantly appreciates the man- they gave him a character in one of their games after all! That's one of the coolest things that can happen for any gamer, we dream of having stuff named after us.
Necrit does tend to get carried away and gets too emotional at times, but he does so because he is passionate. I would not get too concerned about no lore content though. There are many ways to experience Runeterra now. Not everyone who loves Runmeterra enjoys playing League of Legends, so with these many game genres everyone can experience Riot's IP in their own way. Also, going just by who Riot is looking for on their recruitment page, lore is still important. It is just not going to be the department running League of Legends that is going to drive the stories forward. And frankly, once the MMO comes out, I would be not surprised if there are retcons again
@@stcy000 Honestly I could see it being either years prior or years after League's main lore timeline, just to keep it easy and as few retcons with as most freedom as possible. They could go a lot of ways with it, but I believe after the issues with Ruination they have a lore document now to maintain and it shouldn't be a huge issue. A lot of their stuff is vague in League too, plenty of room to expand/go more in depth on parts and not mess anything up.
It would be crazy if some of the really popular skin thematics were used as alternative reality raids in the game, but I don’t see that happening. Like a PROJECT or PENTAKILL raid as like dlc later down the line
Maybe after the regions are fleshed out (or during), they could add portals that lead to these alternate universes to explore and fight It could also just be a simple dungeon in the other reality

no way a full rune page T3 was only 6-7k, i remember filling 1 page for like 20-30k shit was ludicrously expensive. a single T3 quint alone was 1-2k depending on the rune
I feel like this mmo is a very crucial milestone when it comes to the future of mmo in gaming history. if it flops, game creators might be scared into creating mmo's in the future, hence not much mmos might be created and it will be scarce. but if it is a huge success, it will inspire more mmo games to be created, it will act as a beacon and will create a ripple kind of effect
Counter point: ffxiv. The mmo that proves that mmos are still wanted and that an mmo won't always die within an year or two and even grow if you actually put in some effort.

Another thing is how good it feels to get free skins seemly at random, you often get things you don't want but when you get something amazing it feels even better than buying it

I definitely didn't expect anything above rare skins or even some legendary. Imagine my surprise when I heard that distinguishing sound of an Ultimate skin popping out. The East (Korea, China, Japan and a few other countries) internet games mainly operate out of Internet Cafes, as such in those countries it is NOT pay to win but considered a more pragmatic thing, as needing to grind 100h fro an unlock when you have to pay $1/hr for game time makes it more economical to buy the unlock for $40 flat fee. It is a point that is foreign to western countries where a lot of internet access is either free or unlimited for a nominal fee.
One thing I do think would have been cool to mention is that the multiverse is essentially canon in league with the new skin line with Pyke as well as Pulsefire confirming as such (also Darkstar where the darkstar entities have infected 2 universes not their own). So we could have "Summoned Rift" events so to speak where we get raids or dungeons which lead into alt universes and they would make sense within the lore c:

I remember playing LOl back when Zack first released and the grind for runes and championship was awful, I started playing again a couple of months ago and it's so much better, you don't have to buy runes and you earn blue essence way faster plus on top of that you can earn skins for free at a reasonable tempo. I'm almost completely sure that monetization in the MMO will be fair.

I really enjoy this video, but I wish you covered the battle pass for Valorant. It has absurd amounts of value when it comes to shooters. Getting around 5 weapon skins including a unique melee for just 10 dollars. Let alone giving players a free weapon skin at the end of the battlepass. So it's still possible for anyone can acquire a skin no matter their budget. Valuing time and money.
I'd agree but to me Valorant's BP is the grindiest of them all. I literally had Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, Valorant and Genshin Impact BPs at the same time, and I spent the most time on Valorant, but I still finished the other 3's BP before Valo. The one thing people forget to point out with of the things that could come into Riot's MMO is that aside from Riot's Modus Operandi of Free to Play and Cosmetic Monetization, is for the most part the grind is fucking real. Riot is literally just a tier - naye they are THE tier below Korean MMO grinding - Sure I think Runeterra isn't as bad as the rest but dear lord.

This isn't possible if your teammates early in pick order don't own the champion in question. They would need to secure it and then trade for the less contested champion you presumably pick for them. I'm glad you brought up runes and rune pages. It's crazy to ignore their existence while you preach Riot's monetization model history. A lesser thing that could've been brought up is how some skins are banned in pro play but aren't in ranked play. Some of that is due to competitive integrity no doubt.
The character with his name is basically canon and have a decent role in the lore, he's one of Viego's advisor and kalista's colleague. We have a good chance of seeing him, hopefully prayge.
I'm not a LoL fan, because I don't like moba games in general, but I always liked the aesthetics of the characters and I find the lore quite interesting. After watching your videos about the mmo i'm really hyped about it and can't wait for it to be released.
Oh god Runes is a blast from the past. Slapping Gold/second Quints in all 3 slots and buying 2-3 gold/sec items as support so buying wards didn't bankrupt you after lane phase. Part of me misses them, but then the rest of me realized that part that misses them is insane.
I think Necrit could've highlighted Riot's actions in regard to poorly received Montezied Content a bit more. He mentions Eternals in the end, but not the 2nd Series that was just released. I also think they revised their strategy around Chromas heavily after community backlash.
True. Though Riot has a...decent track record, an MMO is quite the gamble of investment. I mean, the most recent, "anticipated" MMO is Blue Protocol, and that's probably not due until 2024.

the skin lines can be like lost ark, every class (mages, warriors, assasins, fighters, etc) have skins per class and they release different skins for different events/ holidays. i can see them do this wtih league skins, a mage kda skin, doesnt matter if you are a bard , summoner, or sorcceress, they all share the the skin kinda.
If I worked at Riot, I'd also be interested in what people choose to unlock with currency they receive for free. As someone who avoids spending money on League whenever I can, I put a lot of care into which skins I unlock for the ornage essence. I have a collection of skin shards I like stocked up, but only unlock the ones I want the most and disenchant the skins I know I don't like. That way I usually have enough OE to unlock any preffered shard I get.
On the discussion about pay2win, I remember seeing a phrase somewhere on a Riot blog post back on the old forums saying they don't sell power in the game, and I sent them an email right after Darius's release, quoting said phrase, and asking them why didn't they give Darius for free to everyone because of how OP he was, and that some people were ahead of others by simply having the champion and being able to play it. Fun times

I'm learning game development, I have to disagree on the "polygons" that's not ingame/inmatch, usually those polygons inmatch are way lower cause you can't zoom in anyway to check the said "polygons", it's called LOD(Level of detail) just youtube "Unity LOD". Sometimes they're even just billboards, just youtube "Unity billboards"
Something important to note, Netease is a Chinese publisher while Garena is an OCE/South Asia publisher afaik. The Chinese version of League is handled by Tencent (the company that owns Riot Games) afaik.
The eventpass in Legends of Runeterra is most super worth it. You can get 2 skins worth 20-40 € for 15€ amd a bunch of cards and extras like pets and bonus gems.

2 Things, Kiriko is the first Character that needed to be unlocked by battlepass where the Battlepass itself for complete need 73h of non stop playing so not even a week. 2. Right now Overwatch will be balanced in a way to make counter picking less impactfull so there won't be a sytuations where one team losses cause their Tank don't have the newes hero. There still will be soft counters like Reaper into any tank or Soldier into Pharah but that's it
Just by having Twitch Prime, I can get Prime Gaming Capsule each month and get so many cool things. Thanks to the League's looting system, I gathered around 30 skins this year just by playing occasionally and opening the Capsule. I haven't spent a single dollar on League and got so much stuff. I'm pretty alright with Riot's monetization.
And any of the stuff you can spend money on is great. I played for a while until this summer when I decided that I wanted a board and some other cosmetics. I even bought the star guardian battlepass and even though I didn't complete it, I got a bunch of stuff that made it worth it

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Mortdog. I’ve been playing TFT since season 1 and he is head-and-shoulders above every other lead game dev in terms of communication and candor. It’s tough being the face of a game but he wears that like a badge of honor with dignity and grace. I truly cannot overstate how lucky we are to have him at the helm. With that said, being an old WoW head I view Ghostcrawler in the same light and because of that I have nothing but inspired hope for the success of the Riot MMO. The folks over there are nothing short of superstars!

As a player that just got into League half a year ago, I wish that the grind was a bit more player friendly. For example I got dominated by Tahm Kench in the botlane 3 games in a row. Turns out all the champions I owned were either countered by him or really unfun to play, with me not owning any ranged toplaners and not experienced enough to play other roles toplane.
If they make weapons in an MMO similar to weapons in a shooter and they're composed of tagged parts. They could sell cosmetic weapon customization. Like making your blades edge crimson. Adding a dangly keychain thing at the butt of the sword. Particle effects on the swords attacks. Every MMO has tried to introduce balanced skill trees, unfortunately one usually stands above the rest in the case of min/maxing. What if instead of a skill tree to offer customization. You could buy things that makes your Knight class have animations that make them feel more like a berzerker with the exact same kit as a knight. Or I could be an Ice mage instead of a generic mage?
Fun Fact: The old "Pay for Power" Rune System was implemented into Pokémon Unite not too long ago. It wasn't there at launch, they actively added it in.
I played 2022 LoL pretty active before I paused for 2023 now. In my active one year I got 65 Champions in total. Which means I unlocked more than one Champion per week without buying them or without spending money.

what if riot created a vgu poll for a limited month like for 3 months, wherein players get to vote what champion needs an update asap by buying skins, whomever champion gets the most bought skin/s, riot needs to update that champion asap. for example, chogath gets the most bought skin on that poll event duration, chogath would get updated asap

There is currently 20 slots in FFXIV, and Im thinking they could give 3-4 glamour slots for free and you could maybe buy more for a couple bucks a pop (maybe like how much an emote costs in LOR) and since the game is already free, I feel like more people would be more likely to buy glam slots
Also, when they romove the p2w rune, riot also return any money spend on them as an in-game premium currency so the player who pay for those didn't lost any money.

I think it was 1320 IP for T3 quints and 920 for the normal T3 runes

I feel like this mmo is a very crucial milestone when it comes to the future of mmo in gaming history. if it flops, game creators might be scared into creating mmo's in the future, hence not much mmos might be created and it will be scarce. but if it is a huge success, it will inspire more mmo games to be created, it will act as a beacon and will create a ripple kind of effect
yeah their thought process is probably "if an IP this big flops its better to not even try"

@@dlcyKing haven't even heard of it lol. it's a classic game for old gamers that likes og mmos I reckon. what i'm portraying about is the future market of the mmo's, the younger and future generations. there will always be og old classic players that loves mmos, but sooner or later they'll either be too busy to survive life or eventually die. huge game companies target younger audiences anyway, hopefully to pique their interests on mmos, since most of the young peeps didn't experienced classic 90's or 2000's mmos anyways and play other genres
@@asura3955 i mean, ffxiv average age is like 22~25. Mmos are way too slow of games compared to fast games like fortnite and league so the very young audience won't naturally have interest in them. And the old school style of WoW will also simply die out, as it's more of a second job than a game. If riot makes an mmo of that type, it's dead. Just dead.

they gave only 2 pages for starters I know that because I only played ad champions I used one attack speed page and one flat ad page

Another thing is how good it feels to get free skins seemly at random, you often get things you don't want but when you get something amazing it feels even better than buying it
I definitely agree with what you said. I remember the time when I got my 3 Ultimate skins just from the loot box and re-rolls. I definitely didn't expect anything above rare skins or even some legendary. Imagine my surprise when I heard that distinguishing sound of an Ultimate skin popping out. It's one of my best League experience.

The East (Korea, China, Japan and a few other countries) internet games mainly operate out of Internet Cafes, as such in those countries it is NOT pay to win but considered a more pragmatic thing, as needing to grind 100h fro an unlock when you have to pay $1/hr for game time makes it more economical to buy the unlock for $40 flat fee.
It is a point that is foreign to western countries where a lot of internet access is either free or unlimited for a nominal fee.
Their mmo will definitely be a success.

One thing I do think would have been cool to mention is that the multiverse is essentially canon in league with the new skin line with Pyke as well as Pulsefire confirming as such (also Darkstar where the darkstar entities have infected 2 universes not their own). So we could have "Summoned Rift" events so to speak where we get raids or dungeons which lead into alt universes and they would make sense within the lore c:

I remember playing LOl back when Zack first released and the grind for runes and championship was awful, I started playing again a couple of months ago and it's so much better, you don't have to buy runes and you earn blue essence way faster plus on top of that you can earn skins for free at a reasonable tempo. I'm almost completely sure that monetization in the MMO will be fair.

I really enjoy this video, but I wish you covered the battle pass for Valorant. It has absurd amounts of value when it comes to shooters. Getting around 5 weapon skins including a unique melee for just 10 dollars. Let alone giving players a free weapon skin at the end of the battlepass. So it's still possible for anyone can acquire a skin no matter their budget. Valuing time and money.
I'd agree but to me Valorant's BP is the grindiest of them all.
I literally had Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, Valorant and Genshin Impact BPs at the same time, and I spent the most time on Valorant, but I still finished the other 3's BP before Valo.
The one thing people forget to point out with of the things that could come into Riot's MMO is that aside from Riot's Modus Operandi of Free to Play and Cosmetic Monetization, is for the most part the grind is fucking real. Riot is literally just a tier - naye they are THE tier below Korean MMO grinding - Sure I think Runeterra isn't as bad as the rest but dear lord.

05:03 Wild Rift has already adopted gacha monetization (since a couple months ago). Riot Games also pulled out support for eSports outside of Asia, which indicates it's probably not doing very well in the West.
The numbers in my region were extremely low (North Latin America). The definitely weren't doing great outside of Asia.

thinking about ancient runes gave me fckin ptsd dude, it was the worst time to play as you could either had the champs you wanted, or good runes, it was so frustrating and when they talked about the new runes it was such a relief.

This isn't possible if your teammates early in pick order don't own the champion in question. They would need to secure it and then trade for the less contested champion you presumably pick for them.
I'm glad you brought up runes and rune pages. It's crazy to ignore their existence while you preach Riot's monetization model history. A lesser thing that could've been brought up is how some skins are banned in pro play but aren't in ranked play. Some of that is due to competitive integrity no doubt.

The character with his name is basically canon and have a decent role in the lore, he's one of Viego's advisor and kalista's colleague. We have a good chance of seeing him, hopefully prayge.

I'm not a LoL fan, because I don't like moba games in general, but I always liked the aesthetics of the characters and I find the lore quite interesting. After watching your videos about the mmo i'm really hyped about it and can't wait for it to be released.
Oh god Runes is a blast from the past. Slapping Gold/second Quints in all 3 slots and buying 2-3 gold/sec items as support so buying wards didn't bankrupt you after lane phase.
Part of me misses them, but then the rest of me realized that part that misses them is insane.
I think Necrit could've highlighted Riot's actions in regard to poorly received Montezied Content a bit more. He mentions Eternals in the end, but not the 2nd Series that was just released. I also think they revised their strategy around Chromas heavily after community backlash.
I still think that it's better not to overhype the game.

the skin lines can be like lost ark, every class (mages, warriors, assasins, fighters, etc) have skins per class and they release different skins for different events/ holidays. i can see them do this wtih league skins, a mage kda skin, doesnt matter if you are a bard , summoner, or sorcceress, they all share the the skin kinda.

If I worked at Riot, I'd also be interested in what people choose to unlock with currency they receive for free.
As someone who avoids spending money on League whenever I can, I put a lot of care into which skins I unlock for the ornage essence. I have a collection of skin shards I like stocked up, but only unlock the ones I want the most and disenchant the skins I know I don't like. That way I usually have enough OE to unlock any preffered shard I get.

On the discussion about pay2win, I remember seeing a phrase somewhere on a Riot blog post back on the old forums saying they don't sell power in the game, and I sent them an email right after Darius's release, quoting said phrase, and asking them why didn't they give Darius for free to everyone because of how OP he was, and that some people were ahead of others by simply having the champion and being able to play it. Fun times

I used to be a hearthstone player despite having an extensive collection, but i switched to legends of runeterra and never looked back because the gameplay was so good. It really did make me give faith in riot
I'm learning game development, I have to disagree on the "polygons" that's not ingame/inmatch, usually those polygons inmatch are way lower cause you can't zoom in anyway to check the said "polygons", it's called LOD(Level of detail) just youtube "Unity LOD". Sometimes they're even just billboards, just youtube "Unity billboards"
Something important to note, Netease is a Chinese publisher while Garena is an OCE/South Asia publisher afaik. The Chinese version of League is handled by Tencent (the company that owns Riot Games) afaik.
The eventpass in Legends of Runeterra is most super worth it. You can get 2 skins worth 20-40 € for 15€ amd a bunch of cards and extras like pets and bonus gems.
i liked the old runes added more diversity to the game and you can buy them with in game currency and this was before they had a daily cap on LP
The fourth point is interesting, imagine if you will, purchasing a skin line that allows you to travel to the alternate universe...
"they have not seriously flopped, yet." idk Wild Rift seems to be flopping in the west atm, they discontinued WR Esports to "focus" on Asia, major western personalities, pros, and influencers are looking to leave the game over its uncertainty, people from Brazil, its biggest western market, are already calling the game "dead," and in Asia, where they're looking to focus their efforts on, is still dominated by MLBB. I love WR and I'd hate to see it die, but the future doesn't look too bright.

2 Things, Kiriko is the first Character that needed to be unlocked by battlepass where the Battlepass itself for complete need 73h of non stop playing so not even a week. 2. Right now Overwatch will be balanced in a way to make counter picking less impactfull so there won't be a sytuations where one team losses cause their Tank don't have the newes hero. There still will be soft counters like Reaper into any tank or Soldier into Pharah but that's it

Just by having Twitch Prime, I can get Prime Gaming Capsule each month and get so many cool things. Thanks to the League's looting system, I gathered around 30 skins this year just by playing occasionally and opening the Capsule. I haven't spent a single dollar on League and got so much stuff. I'm pretty alright with Riot's monetization.
As a legends of runeterra player, i never seen such a fair card game in my life.
Like i never spend any money since the launch of the game.
And any of the stuff you can spend money on is great. I played for a while until this summer when I decided that I wanted a board and some other cosmetics. I even bought the star guardian battlepass and even though I didn't complete it, I got a bunch of stuff that made it worth it

Well they better hurry up. This new season for the regular game plus the new “ behavioral updates” just forced people to create side accounts and be as toxic to THEIR OWN teammates like never before. I started playing since a couple weeks before shyvanna was released and I’ve never been so annoyed with the game… I really hope they hurry up with this and do it right so I can just swap over to the mmo
I have nothing but the utmost respect for Mortdog. I’ve been playing TFT since season 1 and he is head-and-shoulders above every other lead game dev in terms of communication and candor. It’s tough being the face of a game but he wears that like a badge of honor with dignity and grace. I truly cannot overstate how lucky we are to have him at the helm.
With that said, being an old WoW head I view Ghostcrawler in the same light and because of that I have nothing but inspired hope for the success of the Riot MMO. The folks over there are nothing short of superstars!

As a player that just got into League half a year ago, I wish that the grind was a bit more player friendly. For example I got dominated by Tahm Kench in the botlane 3 games in a row. Turns out all the champions I owned were either countered by him or really unfun to play, with me not owning any ranged toplaners and not experienced enough to play other roles toplane.
If they make weapons in an MMO similar to weapons in a shooter and they're composed of tagged parts. They could sell cosmetic weapon customization. Like making your blades edge crimson. Adding a dangly keychain thing at the butt of the sword. Particle effects on the swords attacks.
Every MMO has tried to introduce balanced skill trees, unfortunately one usually stands above the rest in the case of min/maxing. What if instead of a skill tree to offer customization. You could buy things that makes your Knight class have animations that make them feel more like a berzerker with the exact same kit as a knight.
Or I could be an Ice mage instead of a generic mage?
Every time necrit makes a mmo video I think of that meme where a farmer goes to milk his cow that's skinnier than a stick.

I played 2022 LoL pretty active before I paused for 2023 now. In my active one year I got 65 Champions in total. Which means I unlocked more than one Champion per week without buying them or without spending money.

what if riot created a vgu poll for a limited month like for 3 months, wherein players get to vote what champion needs an update asap by buying skins, whomever champion gets the most bought skin/s, riot needs to update that champion asap. for example, chogath gets the most bought skin on that poll event duration, chogath would get updated asap

Also in terms of Transmog/Glamour People in FFXIV absolutely adore their glamour slots. There is currently 20 slots in FFXIV, and Im thinking they could give 3-4 glamour slots for free and you could maybe buy more for a couple bucks a pop (maybe like how much an emote costs in LOR) and since the game is already free, I feel like more people would be more likely to buy glam slots
Also, when they romove the p2w rune, riot also return any money spend on them as an in-game premium currency so the player who pay for those didn't lost any money.
