Great question! With any barrier im sure there is loss. Investing in a reliable reader for long term might be a good choice. I haven’t seen issues in output on my tegus enclosure. The torts don’t have screening but I would say the issues of output that I have seen with other keepers as well isn’t a problem
Its preferred for to have. Them cycle and have a day to night. But if temps drop low id say either heat their hide box with a heat mat , have a dark area for them ti hide if you keep the light on those would be other options
I just purchased a baby leapord tortoise and they told me to get some dirt wood chip substrate. My turtles name is Lillith. So she went in her water and created mud. Is the the right substrate to use?
i have mine in an open enclosure like this, but some say to keep in a bin with a lid for moisture. is spraying my open enclosure enough?
❤❤❤❤
Thank you!!
If you had a screen top for that enclosure would the UVB and UVA rays still be able to fully give enough of what the tortoise needs through the screen

Tanks are not ideal for tortoises. They have no concept of glass and it makes it harder to thermoregulate

Yes, in fact that's the best substrate
Do I have to turn off the lights at night or can I keep them on? Because I’ve noticed that the temperature drops to 60-65 overnight if I turn it off

Do you have a preference between the leopard and the red footed tortoise?
Could be a good video topic to talk about the differences...

i just got a leopard tortoise, and wondering if i should get some kind of bedding. all i have in there right now is some wood chip mix
No, it’s unnecessary. they only need substrate they wouldn’t forage for nesting material in the wild
