I just got my first leopard tortoise and I'm already in love with him. He is going to be a special care animal because he was born with only 1 eye and his beak is alittle crooked. Thanks for all the advice in this video.
Update: he's gotten alittle bigger but from his deformity he has been struggling to eat without help. He actually scared me quite a bit to the point I was about to start blending his food and using a syringe to feed him. I've also found him flipped over in his tank thankfully tho he was still alive when I got home. I've added more substrate to his enclosure to help and he hasn't flipped since that's about all that has happened so far.
@Chrischone2 he ended up passing away a few months later I took him to the vet after he suddenly became weak and they said he had pretty much no intestines and wasn't able to absorb his food properly and advised I put him down

I have 2 leopard tortoise and I have them in a 4 ft by 3 ft tortoise table and I wondering if you can check out my setup see if I am doing anything wrong I am new to the tortoise world... also thanks for all the info.
I have been researching all the details on caring for a baby leopard tortoise and have come across a lot of conflicting information as to the ecosystem they need especially as babies. I live around lake tahoe so we have a somewhat extreme, dry climate here. I have a lot of questions and would love to be able to chat about all of the details to make sure i have happy and healthy tortoises. Is there a way I can contact you and ask questions as they arise and make sure I have things dialed in before I actually decide to get my little guys? Thanks

I leveled it with the bottom of the enclosure and the mulch goes up to the lip of the water you dont need much water in there especially since it needs cleaned daily with fresh water to avoid any issues
Hi, I picked up a small baby hatchling leopard tortoise here in South Africa. Unsure of the age. However he/she does not want to eat. I have tried soaking as well. Any advice ?
Try making sure it has plenty of places to hide and feel secure babies typically want that first and foremost before they start gaining confidence to eat and as long as they arent getting lethargic or sickly i would just let it be for awhile while constantly offering food after a soak and seeing what becomes!

Hi! I am not sure the extent of things with their shell but i would suggest taking it to a vet to have them see what is the best course of action! Glad he is eating though!!
Russians are great tortoises. I own Russians, Spur-thighed, hermanns and Leopards. I have to admit Russians are my favourite. I've done some brief care guides on my channel.
I bought a leopard tortoise 8/27 and she sneezed after I got him home. Research and a vet visit confirmed he has a respiratory infection. I was sold a sick one, but I am working to get him better, giving him antibiotic shots ever 3 day which is a task for us both, but I worry he won't be healthy...he squeaks still after 5 shots already. Any suggestions on any drops or remedies to assist with his healing process. His name is Mr. Tig
So sorry to hear this! Best things you can do on your end is keep up with your the vet and stay in communication on steps to go for antibiotics are your best in this battle along with making sure you have the habitat and car where it needs to be for Mr Tig. Thats all you can really do to assure. But supplementing their food will also be good as well for overall developing!
My leaped tortise is about two years old maybe going on three to be honest but he only likes green leaves he ate skinned grapes and blueberries but I think that’s because I didn’t give him the greens that time
It’s pretty normal from my experience most babies have this phase of “not eating” my boy is a few years old but I remember when he was still 2-4 months old he would have weeks where he wasn’t eating/barely eating. Likely maybe ate something previous that upset his stomach a little bit. As long as you’re giving him water or soaking him I’m sure it’ll be fine
Agreed! This wasnt my best build to film.. BUT if you are looking for other tortoise build inspirations definitely check out the redfoot ones i did enclosure style wise it’s perfect also for leopards!

Water bowl goes an bit up and a bit down is that good or rather dangerous, and the water is filled to his feet

Can leopard tortoise eat romaine lettuce and mulberry leaves mix?
Would curly kale be alright to feed as a major part of their diets?
Hi! Kale can be fed in moderation collards and mustard greens and hays are a great staple though!

Mine is really fussy and doesn't like anything asifr from lettuce and grass

Fruit is not ideal for these tortoises. To high in sugars and can upset their gut flora
