If Alphinaud died in the alternate timeline, imagine the consequences of that... Alphinaud and Alisaie are huge driving forces behind the WoL's actions...
Thank you so much for making this video. I never watch Ultimates since I felt they were definitely for higher skilled players who want a challenge, but had no story relevance so I wasn’t missing anything. Then I heard whispers about something with Haurchefaunt but I didn’t want to watch hours of prog to figure out what was going on. This video helped me understand the story implications if we had saved our loyal knight. Given Niddy’s eyes were the source of bringing Shinyru to life, I don’t think that would have happened otherwise. We may or may not have gone on to help Doma and Ala Mhigo. No one had done it for years previously due to political strife in the major nations of Eorzea and then the 7th Umbral Calamity. The other nations essentially had other fish to fry in their own backyards, they didn’t have bandwidth to deal with nations conquered for many years at that point. Zenos was still around and a homicidal maniac without what happened in SB, but meeting us and having that moment where he “made a friend” (all while almost taking tons of people down with us, but I digress). That desire to relive that moment really lead to the events in EW. Zenos might have found another way to commit regicide on his father, but it would have been seen as another Garlemald internal struggle that we don’t give two shits about like when Solus died and there was a war that lead to Varis getting the throne. Narratively speaking, there was no reason for us to care about Garlemald’s internal squabbling when we had a possible looming crisis from the “death” of Nanamo and later trying to deal with the dragons. I had no idea the deaths of our friends would drive so much of the story! Death is painful and heartbreaking, but sometimes those deaths happen for a greater purpose. I secretly, not so secretly think XIV needs another major death like those in HW to remind us that we and everyone else are still mortal and can permanently die. I know it’s a meme at this point, but seriously, if someone doesn’t dissipate into the aether, they ain’t dead and even then, it’s possible to get them back. That’s not how life really works and I’d like to see XIV get back to some really raw story telling that confronts death and it’s permanence, allowing us to go through the grief cycle but have that death serve a greater purpose and meaning that allows us to overcome and become stronger. Anyway, this is a long comment, thanks for your awesome video, it’s greatly appreciated.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your comment, thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts! And I definitely agree with the not-so-subtle need to lose someone in the story. It doesn't necessarily need to be one of the Scions like some people seem to want, but it can be a character or even characters later introduced to the story that we will get really attached to - just like Haurchefant and Ysayle. Or some other friends that we have known for a long time. The story is sad as it is already but we need that impact as well if you ask me.
Very interesting with the question of black rose! I'd actually recommend looking into one of the quest at the end of endwalker, this goes into that idea of "what if" and gives quite an intriguing reveal.
Omg! Thank you so much for this video. I finished HW just a week ago and I'm still not and I found out about this ultimate!!!! Thank you so much for telling us this story, for I know I will never play through this but the question of 'what if...' is still burning through me. I think this story will temper that flame a bit and help with my grief.....so thank you again 😊
Given that alternate timelines are canon I like to believe that this scenario did happen in an alternate history. But the one thing that really bugs me is that the warrior of light could have just destroyed the allagan enslavement collar around Hraesvelgr's neck to free him. Also I blame Lahabrea & Igeyorhm for teaching a power hungry priest to be a primal.
I'm not gonna attempt to speculate about the story at large, just the immediate future of Heavensward : 1. Estinien is absolutely dead in the reimagining, as for the rest? there is a chance that Alphinaud, Haurchefant, and Ysayle stays alive AKA knocked out to high heavens. 2. Alphinaud has a chance to be dead too alongside Estinien (which will cause a HUGE problem) but if Alphi is somehow alive then he will be depressed to a bad degree, remember this is Heavensward where Alphinaud's confidence has just been shattered by the whole "light brigade" debacle. Estinien, essentially a big brother figure to Alphinaud dying means Alphinaud will most likely blame himself and will take a while to recover and no chocolate milk from Haurchefant will help here. I'm not sure if Lord H and Ysayle will be the replacement "elder sibling" figure for Alphi 3. Thordan shows himself up in the bridge to Ishgard as THE King Thordan (pre Dragon King). This will either cause or solidifies the schism Ishgard about to face between the clergy and the non-clergy after the fight, possibly plunging Ishgard into a messy civil war. Also Thordan gives out a big attack, It is safe to say that the attack will not cause a lot of damage to Ishgard proper since at the end it's more of a "let's move out for a proper fight" type of teleportation attack bringing us to Sohr Kai. If the attack also spreads destruction to Ishgard proper however this will be another way Ishgard might fall, like permanently ruined. 4. Regarding the Dragon's Eyes the big "Butterfly Effect" question will be will there be magic energy left inside the eye after Dragon King Thordan debacle. In the real story after Estinien is saved while Nidhogg's souls is freed the eyes however still have enough power to summon Shinryu, and that was just Nidhogg's eyes. If there are magic power left then we might potentially fight Shinryu at prime power considering Hraesvelgr's eyes might be used in combination with Nidhogg's which is very bad. If however there are no more magic power left in those eyes then Stormblood might still happen considering summoning Shinryu is more icing on the cake (the final "fuck you" you might call it) as the main purpose of dragging the alliance into direct war with Garlemald is fulfilled. Saving Haurchefant means a possibility of fucking up Ishgard as a nation.
Wow, Yoshi-P really makes you regret that what if... Not only does saving the dear knight amount to nothing cause he still gets killed in the end with Isale, but two others as well Alphinaud and Estinien... R.I.P. Haurchefaunt, I still play Dragonsong at your gravesite on Famfrit Primal. SPOILERS PLEASE SKIP IF YOU DON'T WANT THEM EXPLAINATION BELOW IF ALPHINAUD AND ESTINIEN DIED. Estinien wouldn't be able to fight the black rose plague, Tiamat would have been an enemy, Telophoroi wouldn't be defeated, We wouldn't have had an ally while everything was going to shit in Radz at Han, We wouldn't have progressed further in the void because he sacrificed himself (Not permanantly) to the dragons dispair, We wouldn't have had the initiative to even meet Zero in the first place, And he wouldn't have helped us in Dawntrail! Alphinaud wouldn't be able to convince his father to help the WOL, He wouldn't be there to save those in the Eulmore, He wouldn't have caused the uprising against Eulmore's Leader, He wouldn't have helped with the liberation of Doma, Krile wouldn't be helped, He wouldn't have helped with the tower of Zot, He wouldn't have been able to convince the current leader of the garlemald people (in the snowy area), Zero would have never possibly never met those people, and he wouldn't have healed a lot of people in Dawntrail!
What about nidhoggs baby? Or how would that have affected property value in the foundation? Even more so what about diedem? Were any dragons/wyrms hurt during the making of this video? Jk
@@Meoidn this did came like 8 years after HW, of course they have all the time to think up "what if" scenerios. HW's story was fine as it is, this is just you being a dick
I really like the alternate story the devs decided to go for with this ultimate!
RIP our dear knight.

Man now i want a "what if" MSQ for us to fully explore the details of this scenario
I think Haurchefant dying highly resembles the sundering of Etheirys, without sacrifices, the story will have gone worse

WHAT IF (ULTIMATE)
"Be it that of a man or dragon all life is percious..." Tragedy seems to follow those who forget those lessons...
