Final Fantasy XIV is a massive game with thousands of hours of content. What I'm gonna do here is break down some of the major plot points for those of you who want to know more about Eorzea, but may not have time to experience it all first hand. Today we're tackling the complete story of the Return to Ivalice Raid.

Ramza is still to this day my most hated protagonist in 14. Which means they wrote him well because he was supposed to be a total jerk.
Cid bringing up Omega in that cutscene at the start is just an example of the the little details they put in that make the difference. It makes the world feel interconnected.
IKR! It let's you know that everything in the world still moves forward even if the Warrior of Light isn't directly involved. They only call the WoL when its time to punch stuff.
Just barely. I think they could've done a much better job than they did integrating this story into ff14

I mistakenly skipped over the beginning of this story line in Stormblood thinking it was not relevant and boy was it impossible to pick up in the middle. Thanks so much for this summary, you saved me hours and made it easy to understand/remember.
I'm glad I could be of assistance. With them making this story a part of the relics and such it turned out to be far more important than it was a few years ago.
I just did this 😂 Banged out the first few quests then left it for later & it felt like the quest was written in Chinese
I've just started the quest line and the raids last week, have been following and reading everything, and it still doesn't make a damn bit of sense. There's 0 motivation or reason why the WoL should be involved or wasting his time with this.

As a lifelong FFT diehard who never started FF11 or 14, this video feels like it was made for my benefit. If I had seen those final Ivalice cutscenes going in blind, I would've exploded from sheer emotional joy. Bless you for your tireless, depthful pursuit of recounting these chronicles. I now recommend this channel to every remotely interested friend I know.
I really appreciate that level of support. When I 1st saw that ending scene with the entire Final Fantasy Tactics cast showing up I went super fanboy mode. Tactics was my favorite story so seeing it in 14 was fantastic. Thank you for recommending the channel. I really appreciate that.
@@ChroniclerofLore my thoughts exactly. FFT has one of the unquestionably greatest stories in the entire FF Canon, with a notoriously unsatisfying non-ending epilogue. The fact that Delita and Ramza got to reunite as brothers one last time with Matsuno's approval.... It's devastatingly cathartic.

The ending they gave us in the Ivalice series felt like the true conclusion to the War of the Lions story. I'm glad you feel that my coverage did the story justice.

I really have trouble following all the supposition that comes from the NPC dialogue. This video really helped me understand what was going on in each cutscene after watching it. Thanks so much for the straightforward descriptions! Will be watching other videos to absorb the story better.

Final Fantasy Tactocs is my favourite of all Final Fantasy games. Would love to play this new story but I don't think it's for me.

The last third of the questline is a bit strange though when you are a Viera yourself. They are "we need a Viera" and I'm just like "yeah, there is standing one right here, you see my ears, don't you?" 😂
That was a bit hilarious how ridiculous that moment was. They should have added a bit of extra dialogue if you were running around as a bunny at the time
I just experienced this, and it was so weird having Lina say "Never trust a woman with ears longer than mine" while my bunny girl was looming over her.
i no longer play ff14 (maybe return in the future) but discovered there was a FFT questline in the game. Definitely cannot commit to playing it now but was super interested in learning about the quest as i'm a huge fan of FFT. A digestible 30-minute video unfolding the events was exactly what i was looking for with relevant cutscenes. Thanks a bunch man :)

Thanks for recapping this! While I enjoyed the environments of the instances tremendously, I wasn't really feeling the characters so I tended to have only half of my usual focus while reading.
You're welcome. Sometimes the story just doesn't hold you while you're playing through something because there's so much unnecessary info thrown in that it makes the story feel like it's taking forever. One of my goals is to help people avoid that.
Ivalice story specifically introduces you to 4 new termins per sentence as an explanations for the past 4 you got introduced to. It's so difficult without having played the old ones or watched something well made like this.
If you haven't played final fantasy tactics this story slaps you in the face with so many new terms and events that it would be pretty annoying to try and learn it all while still trying to enjoy the story.
Just came back to the game and forgot all the lore for the first two, glad this exists. You did great work~ I think it would have been better if the scenes matched what you were speaking of rather than being slightly delayed till after you were done talking about it but otherwise super helpful!

From the story and homage important characters(Final Fantasy Tactics)
And races and incarnations of side characters(Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced)
And it just makes me wish different types of moogles design wise exist in different places, it's so weird seeing Montblanc and Hurdy being in a FF14 style of moogle, also playable Bangaa race.

I've played through this questline on *two* different characters, but each time ended up having to rush it so that I could run the content with friends. Now, I FINALLY get to know what the bloody story was about. Ta!

I'm glad I could help you out. There was a lot of dialogue in this one so a lot of people skipped at least part of it so they could actually do the fights. As a Final Fantasy tactics fan I really enjoyed it.

You forgot to mention, that there was a spy on the Primavista who told Gabranth about the Clockwork City. Thats how the garleans came to get there in the first place :P Nobody bothers to talk to staff XD XD XD
Started the questline for this Raid and kept up pretty well until I had to go to Wineport. But now that I know it's not important to plot I feel better so thank you.
As far as being important to the main scenario it's not. That's the best part about most of the side stories. Even if you miss them, you can still fully understand the msq

Ahh.. the good old Prima Vista :) I remember it all too well, when I played FF 9 back in the day :) I have never played the Final Fantasy MMORPG, since I grew weary of MMOs and their toxic communities, but from what I have heard, the FF MMO Community is supposed to be quite helpful when it comes to new blood. Is it true? Or have I been lied to? I ask, because I consider playing sooner or later.
The Zodiac Brave Story is one of the best Stories ever told in a Final Fantasy Game. This was THE Game of Thrones Story in Gaming :)

Yep. They analyzed Construct 7, realized we couldn't add, and boom learned that the easiest way to take down the Warrior of Light was with prime numbers.
Great recap! The cutscenes and story representation in game was way to boring and confusing for me since I have never played the games they're based on so I ended up just skipping everything. Heard the story continued in Bozja though so thought I should probably look into a bit so this video really helps, thanks!

I'm so confused, why don't the names match with FFT? Argath Thadalfus is Algus Sadalfas and Jenomis is Balbanes Beoulve? was this lost in translation maybe?
In FFT War of the Lions which is a rerelease for the PSP (a game released many years before this raid) various names were retconned, Algus to Argath, Altima to Ultima, Rofel to Loffrey, Zalbag to Zalbaag, and many others.
About Balbanes I don't know if this Jenomis is supposed to be the same, because Balbanes was changed to Barbaneth in the PSP version.

You're welcome 😊. FFT is my favorite final fantasy by far mainly because Ivalice is such a well established world. It's the primary reason I like FFXII and Vagrant Story (also set in Ivalice).
On another note i have an addiction to Fantasia pots so my characters tend to switch every month. I think I'm currently a brown Mikoto clone. Jfyi I parked her next to Mikoto in Bozja just to see how many people clicked on me by accident. It was hilarious.

I'm an absolute rabid story watcher, talk to every single NPC in the area before starting the next quest. But I just couldn't with this raid series. There was so. much. god. damn. useless. text. Every NPC had like 5 boxes of dialogue, 90% of it told me nothing of who they were as a person, and instead explained plot points of the story. The main characters (Ramza and Alma) were both quite unlikable. There was that whole thing with the wine bottle which I still don't understand. And it's all such a shame, because the raids were amazing! and the lore looked very cool and interesting.
I hope they revisit this story, and clean up the rough edges, ARR style. Because getting through this series was as painful as ARR patch content.
I agree! The lore is so good, but so poorly exxcuted. I wished they had made those cutscenes much shorter and more intressting.
I'm sorry but I disagree the wine bottle sidequest was amazing, and it gave me my favorite title :D
I’m a little confused…
Is Ultima a voidsent? If so it just adds to my theory that the 13th shard was a matriarchal society prior to Emet-Selch destroying it. Since all voidsent labeled as leaders of the voidsent are female. Lilith from the RDM story, Scathath, and the Cloud of Darkness
Ultima was summoned from another dimension but they never said she was from the 13th. The fact that you don't deal with any voidsent during the Ivalice raids, and the fact that the civilizations of the other shards have been mentioned, means it's very likely she's from somewhere else entirely. Plus we've already seen the top voidsent which is the Cloud of Darkness and I doubt Ultima would have played second fiddle to her.
@@ChroniclerofLore yet Scathach and Lilith did play second fiddle to the Cloud of Darkness despite being leaders of the voidsent as well. Makes me kind of scared to know what world Ultima initially came from
Scathach and Lilith were far weaker than Ultima. But its all guess work and speculation. I was expecting to learn more about Ultima when we went to Dalmasca, but since they finished that story on a field note I don't think that will happen.
Long story short, play final fantasy tactics, die peacefully.
This might be considered light spoilers, but I want to ask.
Do you think Ramza Beoulve, being a past Warrior of Light, is a former incarnation of us, the current Warrior of Light? Because throughout Stormblood, we gets bits and pieces of reincarnation potentially being a thing.
It's likely, considering how we have come in contact with another warrior of light who was actually a shard of us. But he could simply be an ancestor of a different Warrior of Light. We aren't the only one, just the one that the story follows. Everyone with the Echo technically is, but the thing that makes your character special isn't actually the blessing of light (it was actually blocked from you for a while) it's your particular unique situation that is too spoilerish for me to say here.

Just did the whole 3 tiers of the raid, read through all the dialogue, took me like 6 hours, maybe more with waiting times included for que and the raid itself. And i understood maybe 10% of what the hell is going on. Here's hoping i understand all watching this lol. Imho the raid was okay, but the story was really really really boring. Compared to HW or ARR 24 man raid, my eyes were just bleeding from the amount of useless dialogue i had to read. The story jumped from 1 point to another. First it was - dad is missing, then crocodile people steal book that dad wants to prove his ancestors are real or something to Garleans, then we deal with bad chief croco who is possesed by white auracite, then 2 kids become possessed by white auracite, then we rescue one of the kids and oh, some monster called ultima is important or something. How is it important? Hell if i know lmao. It was such a bad story and writing jesus lord.
Lol. Your summary was pretty accurate lol. The story itself is ok, I'm more of a fan of Ivalice as a whole which was the thing that made me enjoy it a bit. That and the Final Fantasy Tactics easter eggs. This story only truly serves as a lead in to Bozja which I think they did a much better job of imo.

But besides that like half through the story i was just shouting at my screen - GET TO THE POINT PLEASE JUST GET TO THE POINT ALREADY I WANT TO UNLOCK THE NEXT RAID TIER. And at the end of the raid i was completely lost lol. I actually understood the omega story way easier and it was reallly fun despite it being somewhat similar length maybe even longer.
This story in itself was primarily fan service and an introduction to Viera if I had to guess. For people who haven't played Tactics and 12 it honestly was mediocre at best.
I honestly think I'm just a bit too old to game now. Thousands of hours of content? Hell no. Bills gotta be paid and I'm staring down the barrel of 40. I'm INTERESTED but not sure if I want to play the DLC of a game to get more... You know?
The best thing about FFXIV is the fact that you can play at your own pace and still be able to learn everything about your class, story, or the things that you're interested in. There are thousands of hours of content, but not all of it will be interesting to you and other than the main story which is honestly about as long as any other game nothing is really mandatory.

.............So this is an alternate timeline? Because I don't recall Ashe dying, nor do I recall Ramza getting laid.
I don't think Ramza got laid in this one either lol. But they made some lore changes when they brought Ivalice into FFXIV. It's not 100% the Lion War or FFXII. Gabranth is also around in Dalmasca although there are changes to him as well.
@@ChroniclerofLore Still it is weird that the first female protagonist in Final Fantasy (Yuna doesn't count and Vaan is not the main character in 12 (not that there's anything wrong with that)) had a bridge dropped on her. And then having Fran around without Balthier........ I mean I would say it would be like Chewbacca without Han Solo, but that's a thing now too. :(
Please don't remind me of what they did to Han in the new star wars trilogy. I try to pretend that they don't exist because the expanded universe novels treated them so much better. On a more important note they should bring Balthier in to work with Fran. He was awesome.

Technically it's not taking place in the FF12 universe. Consider it more like FFXIV is the main universe and the other final fantasy games are alternate universes where you will see similar characters with similar stories but slight alterations

Ooookay. Just finished the video. So they Star Wars'd it. Nothing Ramza did in Tactics mattered and a new, lesser deserving hero has to come clean up his failure. I was all in until that part. No. I don't accept this. Why the hell did they have to go and do that?
Ikr. They literally made Ramza fail. I would have preferred if he succeeded but the cycle continued and Ultima returned forcing you to find the Auracite holding Ramza's essence so he could take it down again, but unfortunately I'm not one of their writers. ☹

I did play Zodiac Age. I love the fact that it took place in Ivalice like Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story, but aside from Fran and Balthier the characters were pretty blah.
