You can also run a switch too the signal of your brake boost sensor. Or just unplug the brake boost sensor all together. I drive in (M) but just wanted too share.
Love this, I had to find out by trial and error...use AFM on empty freeway with cruise control. In stop and go or pulling out on a busy street, M mode is the way to go! I think tow mode does a similar thing. The M can be thought of as Max gear, all other down shifting takes place , when in overdrive gears the AFM will kick in.
It is kinda the same on the 07-13 models with a real transmission. Before I got the Range device, I noticed keeping it in 3 instead of D would keep it in V8 mode. I assume it makes the truck know you're towing something, like how gears 5 for you and 7 for the 8 speeds do it, being the last gear before "OD" would kick in. Yet, putting it in tow/haul mode didn't change a thing. Obviously I can't go everywhere in 3 instead of D, so I bought the device.
Has anyone tried this on a 2020 trail boss with the 6.2L? I just came back from a road trip and realized my speed was limited to 98mph!! It was a rude awakening passing that semi on a wide open west Texas highway.

Removes the delay/drag when trying to accelerate quickly, especially going from 1st/2nd and also the gas mileage to the wear and tear on the lifters is minimal
Have an Yukon XL and Silverado. It’s not the feature that I hate, it’s how GM messed up the features. In both, 4 cylinder mode creates a noisy cabin because the engine and transmission sound like they’re struggling. The vehicles also become sluggish. I take my vehicles to the dealer for maintenance and they can’t do anything about the issue until GM does something. That’s why everyone is buying Range modulators. Like you, I like the mileage I get so I just moved up to premium gas to quiet the noise.
I have a friend that has a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ and the switching back from 8 to 4 cylinders caused a couple lifters to get stuck and eventually cost him over 6K and many many months waiting for parts during COVID.
I have a 2016 6 cylinder Silverado . If I leave it in D {drive} it always stays a 6 cylinder. But has a rough idle at a stop for second or two. I set it to M 6 and it showed it changing to V4. No rough idle at a stop. I guess I need a Disabler. P.S. My truck has the Really Bad paint issue. The top of the cab is peeling off in sheets. I understand it is a bad factory paint. I used the Range on my '07 Yukon for a few months... but then went ahead and bought the delete kit. Got rid of all that AFM junk. Well worth the cost!!!
I don’t see how that’s possible, your rings are what keep the oil from seeping into the cylinder chamber, unless you have bad rings you shouldn’t be burning oil
@@jonnysnipes3123 naw bud. with the piston going up and down without the valves opening it creates a vacuum. it actually pulls the rings in and cause oil to seep by. imagine a syringe with your thumb over the opening and you trying to pull the plunger. its doing nothing but sucking your thumb. same thing with afm now its dfm and they put a timer on the computer. so if your in hwy mode 4 cyl every few minutes it comes out on its own to relieve the pressure, its a typical engineer f up that they got millions for at the cost to the consumer. well and the idiot liberals at the epa, you can thank them for that. next is the turbo 4 cylinders and v 6. they wont last no time trying to do what a v8 does. turbo doing the work and putting the motor throoug hell. just wait for it.

Also not sure if your engine is just loud with the doors open but it sounds like ur torque converter could be starting to whine.

Just found the channel, thanks 🙏. I have a 18 Sierra 2500. I was just flashed on the interstate by a Hyundai. Pretty sad. Truck goes dead at 95mph. Governor? Any suggestions? Tuner? Thanks for the great content.
I heard that the speed limiter is more for your tires so they don’t explode at high speeds. If you get H-rated tires the tire shop or dealership may reset your speed limiter to a higher setting
4 cylinder mode is a gimmick anyways. It saves no fuel. Takes the same energy to go a given speed. Now if it could stop the friction of those four cylinders we might actually save some fuel.
Okay, I don't get it. . . AFTER putting it in manual 5, you then shift back to Automatic? Otherwise you're only using 5th gear?? Also, my 2018 "Max Tow" Silverado with the 5.3 V8 shows my best MPG ever is 28.1, (and that, of course, is a highway drive with little load in the bed and NOT towing my trailer,) but I'm pretty happy that the 4 cylinder feature makes it do so well, and I think I'll leave it as is. Interesting hack, though!!
It depends on the application. The idea of cylinder deactivation is to optimize the fuel economy rating, which is done unloaded. When towing if you don’t have enough power you are wasting more fuel. We don’t notice it as much with the electronic pedal and fuel injection these days but if you drove an old carbureted truck you would notice you when you didn’t have the torque necessary. With the old truck you would fix this by adding more fuel or down shifting. Today we can keep our torque higher by using all 8 cylinders.
