@@matt31 epic as f*ck meme reference my good friend 😂😂 reddit gold to you!
good to know slime
This song has had such a deep impact on me. It has helped me to understand the beauty in my life’s journey and further understand the struggles that come and learning how to overcome them. Finding Chuck Schuldiner has been a blessing and I continue to feel empowered by his work, each and every day.
Bro same, glad I am not the only one 🙏🏻
Symbolic for me is the best death metal album ever made..!!!! It’s a fucking masterpiece
dude, the way you analyze these songs is insane, I've seen a more impressive and in depth analysis of any song. beautiful
Cheers brother!
Varvis is the best metal youtuber, change my mind
EXACTLY
Why should I change your mind?
@TimothyGodshall You're right, don't
I could comment 30 times on how impactful this song was for me and all the things I like about it! I'm only in 6 minutes so far so will keep it short. The BEST aspect to this song regardless of meaning and lyrics, is easily without a doubt the best part for me and that's the SOLOS and riffs behind them. Both Chucks and Bobbys, the riffs (especially Chucks during first solo) just gripped me beyond words. The bass, drums, the entire arrangement. I could go on and on. To me, one of the best moments in all of metal music. Please keep doing these! I love these nerdy deepdives brother. Reminds me of me when I'm really focusing on what a song means to me.
Great comment man, the solos and riff combos on this song are absolutely unmatched
9:17 Underrated riff maxxing
Which song next boys?
Within the mind/Open casket? Both of these songs are definitely pretty deep, I think a proper analysis would be pretty neat
The Philosopher would be killer

Lord Varvis with another absolute slap-ass video!!🔥🔥
Loved this (especially the way you combine analysis of the music and the ideas). First time YT has given me one of your deep dives, rather than the react videos - about to catch up on all the others I've missed!!
Bud, your channel is great, happy to a fellow Edmonton Area dude crushing it with really thoughtful content. Keep up the good work.
I have never liked death metal, but those arpeggios were so beautiful, I have to check out their Symbolic album. I actually had my guitar in hand as those arpeggios came on and I just played along!
Based. Check it out, the whole album is filled with really beautiful (and easy to play) guitar work!
@hasanmir any updates?
the outro made me cry when i first heard it. magnificent.. love the death content man frfr no cap brooo
what a vid, always loved to know about the meaning of Death's songs and you VARVIS...my god, amazing job bruther! Your reviews and research's onto such music is simply amazing work!!
This songs outro is so beautiful
Sorry to hear u had to go through losing ur mom.I can guarantee she’s proud of how you’ve grown from then and are using ur time to not only fulfill your own perennial quest, but also helping to inspire others and help them on theirs.
Yes. Very studious riffs. lol
Imo the second best song off symbolic, and that outro is amazing
Whats number 3?
@@VARVIS_ Symbolic has so many master class songs its actually really hard to decide which one is number three and even number one lol. Generally though sacred serenity or without judgement depending on how I'm feeling.
@@VARVIS_bro didn’t ask what number one was 😭😭🙏 we all know what number one is☠️☠️🙏
This channel inspired me to force symbolic into my friends ears… thanks
Based spread the good word
Perennial quest is one of my all time favorites
This album is actually perfect. On top of probably in my opinion Death's best album, the production is just ridiculously good! So well balanced and surely ahead of its time balancing the distorted guitars with clean parts overtop. Again my opinion but I reckon Chucks vocals peaked here too. I do have Empty Words' chorus tattooed on my chest though so I may be a tad biased 😂 awesome video and I am so glad you decided to break down a song off of my #1 album of all time ❤️
Always love these break downs. My favorite thing you do is how you talk about riffs sounding like something (ie this riff sounds like the stumbling beginnings of a journey, this riff sounds like someone in the process of gathering knowledge). This is totally the way I’ve thought about this stuff and have never really stopped to put it into words.
Great stuff.
Do you have any interest in the work of Edge of Sanity? It would be so cool to hear your take on some of their music.
You're a fknig beast dude, your content is the best

US REPUBLIC OF ALBERTA to ALASKA 2025!!
THRASH-HARD CORE PUNK album from 1991 by THE CRUCIFIED, albums called PILLARS of HUMANITY, this album is a real gem for anyone. They sing against the POPE, they sing against PROFITABLE CHRISTIANITY & POSERS that aren't about CHANGING THE WORLD like JESUS did as he stood up for people as PUNK truly means. But I recommend anyone who wants a 10 out of 10 THRASH-HARDCORE PUNK to check out this album. Also recommend TOURNIQUET - PATHOGENIC OCCULAR DISSONANCE from the same time frame basically. Immense drummer, maybe best on earth for TOURNIQUET.
Man, your breakdowns are amazing! The inclusion of the lyrics in the analysis is so important! Can't believe your included Marcus Aurelius, this is so metal (for me, at least). I can't help but suggesting you go watch the Brazilian film "I'm Still Here". Just a few hours before seeing this video, I was reflecting on how Death's Symbolic has connections with that movie, and now I see there's a connection with this song as well. So, if you haven't yet seen it, take a deep listen to these two songs, get some tissues, and go watch I'm Still Here. Cheers from Brazil! 🤘🤘🤘
YES i was so hyped for this video i never understood this song but felt there was something interesting worth understanding yk. Btw have you got any album recommendations? Anything that's like death or metallica or just great?
Man almost nothing quite scratches that late era death, but If you never have heard of them I would check out Wintersun's first album. As well as My Bullet For My Valentines first two albums. All excellent music and both bands have lots of Metallica and Death influences in them
Hey Varvis ! Can you do a deep dive video on Without Judgement , if you haven't done it before. Thanks ! God bless you
I second this
Its coming fam
@@VARVIS_ thanks!!

Another great analysis. I honestly think Symbolic would be an ideal introductory song and album for anyone new to Death
Fellow Gran Turismo enjoyer. I like it.
Best song on the album.
