She's become a Metal Elitist already! 🤣
And we're all proud!
You've got a good one. She's knows what's up.
I love how in 80s there were brutal stuff like Thrash and Death metal and at the same time there was Glam metal
Mötley Crüe literal SOUNDS like cigarettes, sweaty low rent strip clubs, and filthy alley ways and I love it
There is this joke about Metallica saying they saw some hooekers at the show but it was MC when they went closer
Came here from your SOAD video and suggested Sleel Panther for Hair Metal pt.2😂
They will be in the next hair metal redemption video! 😁
DOKKEN MENTIONED LESSGOOOOO
Evelyn's already a metal snob haha!
As someone else said, the 80s gave us so much variety in rock and metal. Sometimes you need Leprosy and Leppard back-to-back, you know?
VARVIS AND WIFE HYPE
@@vitodigiovanni4020 BASED VITOOO
She's ready for Steel Panther now
I was thinking “Giraffes” when Evelyn mentioned how you can’t make band names out of animals other than “Scorpions” lol
There's a resurgence of "hair"metal in Sweden. Bands like Crazy Lixx, Crashdiet, Lipz, and I think Kissin Dynamite is from there. Sleaze rock and glam is popular over there but it's rarely a thing in the states
Don't forget Pantera was hair /glam metal band before phil anselmo joined Pantera
The problem with glam/hair metal is that there's a thin line between heavy and hard rock. Sometimes, it's heavier to be rock, and sometimes, it's softer to be metal. Even is paired with the Melodic metal tag.
My list:
Warrant - all my bridges are burning
TNT - Intuition
Harem scarem - saviors never cry
Firehouse - all she wrote
Europe - ready or not
Treat - ready for taking
Hardline - rhythm from a red car
Extreme - war heads
Slave to the Grind was my go to album back in 1991. I remember riding my bike just listening to it over and over.
It's such a great album! There's a ton of much harder and heavier stuff out there, but Monkey Business still gets me pumped instantly.
I always love 80's Hair Metal. Will always have Hairnation on SXM on the daily.
It would be fun to hear what she thinks of Dream Theater. Prog metal can be hard to digest for some, but who knows. She might get into the story of the concept albums, especially Metropolis Part 2.
Hysteria is the master class on production. Because of the drummer losing his arm they had 4 years to work on the production while he learned to use his feet to replace his arm before they could release it and go on tour.
And no Twisted Sister? Definitely have to react to their videos
and cinderella. And they might not be glam but metal health by quiet riot.
i really don't consider twisted sister hair metal or glam metal.
Neither do I.@@DenverStarkey
You didn't choose the best hair metal songs, for her to reacts.
"Why did it ever get so angry?"
Total chick question there. \m/
Sweden is full of hair metal right now. It sounds like the LA sunset strip in the 80's
For some good underrated Glam Metal, I love me some Tangier and for something female fronted I’d recommend Saraya.
35:08 Even the doggo was loving Scorpions so much he had to come in and listen, that's how good they are
"Then why did it have to get so angry?" Because anger is a valid and natural emotion. It's no different than making sad aongs sound really sad.
When your lyrical or thematic focus is religion, or existentialism, or violence, or social failures, it tends to lean into anger very organically.
Angry music, not angry people 🙂
Touché!
I've always been skeptical about channels that do reactions because often they either don't do nothing or exaggerate everything.
Yours is great though. The editing focuses on the actual reactions and you interact genuinely with one another (and the songs)
Recording videos about metal with my future wife is now one of goals
would love to hear Varvis take on Def Lep going from British New wave metal, to hair metal-->Pyromania+
She's right. It's definitely not metal, and her French is perfect.
Merci 🥰
Well, it was metal when it was recorded. Metal is a category that becomes narrower over time due to the gatekeeping and elitism that are a core part of metal culture. The first documented use of the term "heavy metal" was in reference to Jimi Hendrix.
It is most definitely metal.
It’s absolutely metal
@@IcyTorment Guess Jimi Hendrix was a poser because he isn't metal either
I would say the biggest thing about hair/glam/whatever metal is the solos, they are very shreddy and metaly imo.
For the redemption: Dokken - Dream Warriors and Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild. And some GNR - You Could be Mine
Indeed, "Dream Warriors" was the obvious choice.
2:49 “please sponsor me”🤣🤣🤣🤣
I too prefer calling it Glam
I Really Wish Y'all Did Some Twisted Sister Because They Are My Absolute Favorite Glam/Hair Metal Bands Ever!
13:22 check out the bands heat, crash diet , reckless love, hitten, cobra spell, crazy lixx, hardcore superstar, wildstreet, midnight devils, and ratchet dolls. Great modern glam metal.
My friend and I used to drive around in my truck at like 2am listening to music and we used to go to this one roundabout and BLAST Round n Round while going around it a bunch and pumping our fists out the windows
i need you to expose her to thall for scientific purposes
She needs to hear Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Judas Priest
Quickly becoming a huge huge fan of yalls stuff! Next should be exploring the NWOBHM!
Venom
Diamond Head
Saxon
Motorhead
Raven
Blitzkrieg
Angel Witch
So many greats
That line about the "chicks from Poison" was in one of Sam Dunn's documentaries. Probably his VH1 series "Metal Evolution," but it also could have been the documentary feature "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey."
Saigon Kick is another hair metal band that is SUPER underrated!! They're up their with WASP and Skid Row for their HEAVINNESS
0:03 felt like forever
Wasp and molety cure first 2 albums still had that metal edge
I know two motley crue songs, one from vice city and one from gta 4
13:10 of course there are newer glam metal bands, they are usually from Europe though!
You have to check out Reckless Love and Crashdiët fro a start
Pre Cowboys Pantera 👍
Dokken is definitely top tier.
I'm German and as teenagers back in the 80s we actually used to pronounce the umlauts in Mötley Crüe. 😆😆😆😆😆😆
34:16 such an American thing to say this is explicit. And I know you are Canadians. The point is still valid
Well explicit for UA-cam is what we meant
@@VARVIS_ and UA-cam is an American company... so yeah.
No stone thrown towards you it is just hilarious how here in Europe people don't pay attention to such stuff
Favorite Poison song is Something To Believe In. I can so relate.
she's right it's not metal, definitely more stadium rock than anything. Back when this came out girls were more into this while guys were listening to thrash and punk.
A second episode is so in order, and for your own picks some of the more popular songs(barring ballads in my opinion) from bands can't be left off as glam had such a radio presence which will increase some of the best songs popularity as those would have had more air time.
A few picks from me for round two are:
Warrant - Mr Rainmaker
Ratt - Lay It Down
Whitesnake - Still of the Night
Cinderella - Shake Me
Extreme - Get The Funk Out
Lynch Mob - Wicked Sensation
DOKKEN IS IN THIS I LOVE YOU VARVIS THEYRE ALSO MY FAVORITE HAIR METAL BAND I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
Also if you wanna show her another Dokken song I personally would show Just Got Lucky or In My Dreams
"Normie Wife hears WINTERSUN For The First Time" when? 🥺
Round 2: Whitesnake- Here I Go Again or Still of the Night, Cinderella - Nobody's Fool, White Lion - Little Fighter, Europe - The Final Countdown, Warrant - Uncle Tom's Cabin, Y&T - Meanstreak, Slaughter - Fly to the Angels, Danger Danger - Naughty Naughty. Great White - Once Bitten, Twice Shy.
Okay not to be that guy but deff leppard did start out as a new wave of british heavy metal band 😂
I hope Thrash metal is next! It is my favorite, and I would love to see how she reacts to the fast and aggressive the songs are!!
I agree with her. My opinion is that they’re too cheezy, only appropriate to show teen angst in an 80’s kid movie
I’m old and grew up with this music and NOBODY in the 80‘s thought Poison were „masculine“. 😂
She wants that TRVE KVLT!
One of us. One of us...
Bro you should divide the videos with different band names. Anyways ya’ll rock 🤘🏻
Several songs by Def Leppard: Wasted, Switch (instrumental), Bringin' on the heartbreak, Billy's Got a Gun, White Lightning or Gift of Flesh
If you do another try the price by twisted sister
You should do an episode on the original metal groups and show her where itt started .
"DEF LEPPARD"! ENOUGH SAID!!! 🤘🏼😭🤘🏼
My list (with videos included) would be:
Van Halen - Hot for Teacher/Panama
Twisted Sister - I wanna rock /We're not gonna take it
Quiet Riot - Cum on Feel the Noize
Europe - Rock the Night
Whitesnake - Here I go Again
Bon Jovi - Bad Medicine
Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls
Turn your wife onto the band SANCTUARY, the song FUTURE TENSE. There's a video.
Cheesy 80s metal videos? Let's go!
Rokken with Dokken!! 🤘
Part 2 ideas:
Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild
Motley Crue - Looks That Kill
Tesla - Modern Day Cowboy
Bon Jovi - I’ll Be There for You
Great White - Rock Me
Twisted Sister - We’re Not Gonna Take It
Motley Crue, "Wild Side"
Skid Row, "18 And Life"
Scorpions, "Hit Between The Eyes"
Twisted Sister, "Burn In Hell"
Ratt, "Body Talk"
Quiet Riot, "Metal Health"
Damn Yankees, "High Enough"
W.A.S.P., "Wild Child"
You should probably show her the 80s early 90s metal band banshee
Evelyn is definitely right. "Hair Metal" is generally accepted, and i have no qualms about that. But all those bands more than anything, at least stylistically, were hard rock, albeit with way more melodic and pop sensibilities. I'd love to see you guys react to "Beast From The East," which is the live 1988 record from Dokken recorded in Japan. Their studio productions were always the weakest link to me with them. Live, they were unbelievable. Especially George Lynch. Hes at his apex on that record.
A better playlist:
Motley Crew - Livewire/Dr. Feelgood
Warrant - All My Bridges Are Burning
Skid Row - Sweet Little Sister/Livin' on a Chain Gang
Van Halen - Mean Streets
Winger - Seventeen
L.A. Guns - Rip and Tear
GNR - Rocket Queen/Paradise City
Pantera - Down Below/Over and Out
Quiet Riot - Bang Your Head
Queensryche - Queen of the Reich
Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way by Spectre General/Kick Axe, Instruments of Destruction by NRG, Dream Warriors or Will the Sun Rise by Dokken, Live Wire, Piece of Your Action, or Looks That Kill by Motley Crue, Ride the Wind by Poison, Youth Gone Wild, Big Guns, Sweet Little Sister, or Rattlesnake Shake by Skid Row.
The reason that those bands were considered metal is due to the juxtaposition of their type of music compared to what was pop music at the time. The evolution of what is popular in music has changed dramatically throughout time. We all like what we like, and listening to something outside of that is always going to be eye opening in my opinion. Keep going on your musical journey and I can guarantee that you will find some real gems in unexpected places.
Try some NEMOPHILA for 'happy metal' that still metal 😃🤘
ua-cam.com/video/96LQimRqJgM/v-deo.html
You should have her watch Decline Of The Western Civilization pt 2 - The Metal Years
You picked the less metal examples of those bands... IDK, Kiss of Death by Dokken, Wild Side by Motley Crue, Youth Gone Wild by Skid Row, Rock of Ages by Def Leppard, you know what I mean... Anyways, as usual a very entertaining video.
We called this metal at the time...then it sort of morphed to Hair or Glam Metal...now it's more like Hard Rock
I’d say it was a mix of both but slowly died out as thrash and speed metal took over in the mid to late 80s
Let’s not forget that metal itself is a sub-genre of rock… just to make things more confusing for newbies 😂
id say Bon Jovi is more rock but I can see how theyd be metal
For song's to watch the video's too i would show her
Motley Crüe Kickstart
Poison. Nothin but a good time
Wasp Forever free
Def Leppard. Photograph
White snake Still of the night
Great White. Once bitten teice shy
Cinderella. Don't know what you got
There is just too many song's. But I would definitely shiw her those.
She doesn’t think it’s metal because it is not metal. It’s more rock music which is fine. I like it but MOST of it is not metal. Now WASP is an exception. Ratt is my favorite band of this genre but again I would call it rock. Love the doggie at the end.
Still of the Night by Whitesnake
Van Halen: Everybody Wants Some
Lita Ford/Ozzy Ozzborn: Close My Eyes Forever
She’s Gone by Steelheart
You should listen to Skid Row's Monkey Business or The Title song Slave To The Grind
Dokken is AWESOME
No, no, no, no. No hair metal reaction is complete without the videos. I'm waiting for Hair Metal Pt. 2, with Nitro - Freight Train video included.
More glam rock than metal
Round and round by Ratt is enjoyable.
Maybe you can do a female singer metal band episode one day?
Evanescence, Jinjer, Warlock, Arch Enemy, Holy Moses, Baby Metal, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Ad Infinitum, Spiritbox, Castle Rat, Völva, ...
or a 100% female metal bands?
Burning Witches, Kittie, Girlschool, Crypta, The Warning, Show-Ya, Vixen, hanabie., Nemophila, Lovebites, Band-Maid, Bridear, Aldious, Fate Gear, Cobra Spell, Gallhammer, Hagane, East Of Eden, Gacharic Spin, Paradoxx, Rolling Quarz, Voice Of Baceprot, ...
Already did one man 😁😁 check it out!
@@VARVIS_ Thanks, just checked it out. I guess the YT algorythm was hiding it from me 🤔
it does that some time
MV suggestions:
Dokken - Dream Warriors
Ratt - Lay It Down
W.A.S.P. - Tormentor
Was that opening line a Creed reference?
Bonus points for including the best Def Leppard song., but I think you didn't pick enough of the dime-a-dozen bands that coated the eighties in cheese. That to me is more emblematic of hair metal.
She’ll like dokken if she liked lightning strikes again
Have you introduced her to Mercyful Fate/King Diamond yet?
You guys did it! Nice! Ratt song is from the 80s. My favorite : motley crue, ratt, dokken, wasp and twisted sister. Basically any song from these bands would be a good choice.
For some of us who grew up in the 80's this was our introduction to metal. I was a kid and started listening to hard rock, glam, and heavy metal. By the time I was 14, 1986!, I was introduced to Thrash metal, which was underground then. I loved it and became a thrasher. Although my favorite band has been and is Iron Maiden.
It is funny, she is becoming hard core, hahahaha I think it is your influence, Varvis!!! Good job!
Evelyn, you can listen to glam for partying and having a good time. Just pure fun. Dont expect too much, like other metal genres, which are much more complex musically.
would you consider guns n roses hair metal? if not, what kind of metal sub genre would you put them in?
Unrelated to the hair metal, but your t-shirt reminded me that I think you need to get her listening to The Sword (they got that song called Freya).
Maybe one day you could do a stoner/heavy psych video? 🤣
Edit: on the topic of hair metal - my favourite song by Scorpions is The Sails of Charon, but that was before they went glam 🫣
Ok, I've gone back and looked at your past videos. I have a recommendation for a new band for you to listen to, they are a Japanese hard rock/metal band. Although it's been said they are their own genre because they don't fit any mold. It's an all female band (I'm sure wifey will love, girl power), 5 of the best musicians in the world now. Saiki, vocalist, Miku, founder, backing vocals and rhythm guitar, Kanami, lead guitar goddess, MISA, the barefoot assassin on bass and Akane, drummer/gorilla. They are called Band-Maid, they dress in different maid outfits but rock harder than most bands today. Watch the live version of Hate?, live version of Freedom and live version of Onset (instrumental) to see their talent and master of their instruments. You won't be disappointed. Yes, they sing in Japanese with some English but the language barrier doesn't matter because you can feel what they mean with their music. Don't deny yourself some real music.
Totally metal you snobs!
Dokken Prisoner
Tesla. Love Song
Frehleys Comet. Into the Night
Ozzy Osbourne. Diary of a madman
Lillian Axe. Misery (loves company )
IM A PRISONER CHAINED BY LOVE --Based
The solo in “Prisoner” is my warmup on guitar. I’m glad someone else likes that song!
@ CHAINED BY LOVVVVEEE!!!!!
