When we went to Playa Pilar 10 years ago, staying at Melia Cayo Guillermo, we took a taxi. Got to drive in a Lada, that was fun. We brought some beer from the mini fridge, and just used hotel beach towels. It was like 10$. Beach was nice, but so was the hotel beach…Weather was nice that day at least! Glad you made the best of the excursion under the circumstances!
I really enjoyed this video. The food looked pretty bad though and like you said the beach is just as nice at the resort. I think I'd save the money and pass on that excursion. There has to be better excursions offered by the resort.

can you go to playa pilar just by paying the bus? without the food included etc?
I think the island bus drops people off there, ask your hotel staff or take a taxi or rent motorcycles

Have you been to Lenny’s Bar and Grill? It’s also known as Playa Prohibita and it’s an amazing place you should visit if you haven’t already

@@Ken_Domik you cant see them, but youll feel them usually in 24 hours. Youre legs may be itching and have red spots. It was a very unpleasant experience. Hopefully you and youre wife have better luck!

glad you are enjoying your trip, sounds like your excursion was a ripoff, lobster didn't look very appetizing I always enjoyed the double decker for five bucks and then come and go as I pleased seems like nowadays we are paying more for less in cuba any who have fun.

I don't know if the hop on hop off bus is still running but if it is It's a flat fee for the day And it takes you to Pilar And if Melia Is still doing sister resort day passes, It makes for a very fun day trip to go to pilar, and then go to one of the sister resorts with a very Minimal cost.
This was a bus that only picked up a few locations, waited at Pilar until we left, took us to lunch and home. You can still do the hop on hop off bus and bring your own lobster lunch 🥗
Enjoy your trip!!!!! Wendys chicken strips are only $4 with a new spicy spicy ghost pepper ranch !!! 😄😄

If you have pain medications,for adults, children and babies. Old back packs you don’t use anymore. Gently used shoes or new. Blue Jays hats and t shirts 👕
Thank you, that is most helpful. I will bring all the medication that I can and shoes of all sizes. I’m in Moncton, NB flying out of Halifax, I will try my best to find Blue Jays memorabilia.

I think because of my current situation with my mom’s dementia and dad’s Alzheimer’s I focus a lot on Carol in these videos knowing she just lost her mom. I think it’s wonderful she’s getting away with you in a beautiful place and I’m sending you both lots of care.
Hi there Carol and Ken, I am glad that you semi enjoyed your excursion to Playa Pilar. It is sad that the Melia hotel sub contracts these locations for their guests, but that's how they make extra money! The weather as you know was typical for the Caribbean! Rain for 10 min and sunshine for the next hour! My favorite part is to go swimming while it's raining! Sorry but what you were served was not a lobster soup but a lobster broth! You are the expert at foods, look it up! I am happy that you are enjoying your vacation and can't wait to have you back home to see more stealth camping! Ciao
