My buddy Rich drops off ( on a wrecker :) his 1994 YJ Wrangler for a gas leak issue. Sadly I found more than that wrong with his Jeep which is an amazing one owner Jeep.

The first repair after buying my very used TJ was replacing the gas tank skid plate which led to the discovery of big rust issues under the car. Deja vu all over again. Having tried to save a frame that was too far gone, and then took on the cost of replacing the frame - if the car is a gem, then I would go straight to replacing the frame. When replacing the brake lines, replace the fuel line and fuel return line while your at it. “Might as well” while you’re under there. Oh yeah and while I was struggling with getting the shot gas tank thing off, I had rust literally coming out my ears. Jeeps have a special kind of rust that gets around goggles and even face shields. Amazing stuff. Good luck…I think…
Hey Mike !! No doubt the rust is NASTY. If it were mine and I needed someone else to do the work I would look at one of the media blast companies to clean up the frame. Not sure how far his frame damage has progressed without working on it - you are right might be easier to get a new ( used ) frame - at some point like my New Jersey TJ - its too far gone :)
Hi from the uk, Nice to see the yj in such good condition. We get the salt rash every winter, constant battle against time and the elements. I still have my yj,s and as with your friend when the sun is out the top and doors come off. Your love of jeeps is infectious and long may you Keep Turning Wrenches .
Same as mine, a ‘94. But mine is red, has a hard top, has some rust on the frame that needs to be repaired, has some rust on the body that needs to be repaired, has two rusty front fenders, needs a new windshield frame and it’s a standard. Oh, and it’s in the process of a restoration so the body is off and the engine is out. So ya, exactly the same!! Lol.

Rich has a real treasure with his one owner YJ. Now that you’ve fixed the fuel leak and the rusty skid plate, looks like all he needs to do is get the brake lines and the remaining rust treated (neither of which is a cheap fix) and that baby will be near perfect. Great video, Dave! 😊👍

I'm working on a toyota with frame rust issues. Ohio is not nice if you are wanting to drive your cars. That jeep is nice enough to deserve a new frame if that's what it takes. Another great video Dave.
