This is such a fun series to watch. Seeing Ray progress and hearing what you coach him on in each stage is incredibly helpful as well. The best part is probably Rays spooky edit though.
This series has to be some of the most instructive RL content out there. I've gotten a lot of useful drills and ideas to work on from watching and progressed from mid gold to low diamond. I hope all is well with Ray and that we see a conclusion to it. Great work, Cbell.
i was d1 (maybe p2 or 3 dont rlly remember) now d3, so still kinda stuck lol. but diamond 3 is honestly much different, cuz in d2 almost no one could deal with nor do any celling shots or air dribbles, but in d3 about half the ppl i play go for 2+ celling shots a game some times getting clean clips (not smurfing either).
I'm literally trying the shots that u gave Ray and i'm that Ray scored number 13. I tried a few times ( it was hard) and in the last end i got pretty consisted with it :). And keep up the work Cbell you're doing so good. I love to see this series and I can't get enough of it
I'm also giving my best. I started playing RL mid Season 7 and now I'm a champ :D Sadly there is no way for me to learn air roll right in such a short time so my mechanics are a bit limited :/

Enjoy Jamaica Ray. I love these as I am older guy 37 picking up the game as of just over a hundred hours ago and have gotten into the plat 2-3 range. Seeing how you work with Ray and what it looks like when he has completed the tasks is super helpful when planning my own progression.
can we just take a second to appreciate how much these guys go through for our entertainment? you never really know how much they go through behind the scenes like what happens when the cameras off and what changes their lives and view of things. they do so much for us i love watching them
I'm always looking forward to this video. I've been playing for a year and a half. Have only gotten to D2. My biggest problem is training. Watching Ray grow in such a short time. I think I will drop out of ranked and train for a while. Thank you @cbell. Great content.
If you want to dribble on ps4>>>> ALL PS4 PLAYERS if you haven't already need to turn off vertical sync(rocket league settings) and restrict your tv/monitor to 1080(tv settings). This will eliminate the massive input delay that the ps4 has when trying to prioritise appearance over performance. Do this and you'll be able to dribble much easier to a point that it is actually possible. Keep at it Ray, you've got this. 💪
This video emphasizes my main problem with training packs. I always do them in the simplest way possible. I wish I had someone to say do the shot like this.
I love how psyonix makes their own training packs that are actually slightly higher level than what they say they are. It’s really nice how much psyonix wants their players to get better and continue playing the game.
A tip for his dribbles is to pay attention to the white circle of where the ball is landing and try and keep his car in the center of that.Hope this helps and I hope to play ray I’m in that rank thanks for the great content man and keep it up
Cbell I have a series idea for you that should take maybe 2 hours from booting up the game to rendered edit. The series is you doing quick walk throughs of different training packs and ranking them on your own rubric. I feel like that would help a lot of lower ranks get a better understanding and reference for better training
I'm rooting for Ray so hard lmao. We're in the same rank now but I'm sure he's about to pass me by. Hopefully you can get his audio figured out with the next session
For me the thing that helped me the most with dribbling on top of my car in freeplay was first learning to play the ball in different directions (forward, backward, left and right} when I was on console.
i don’t mean to nit pick or anything but when you say things like “a champ would struggle to save this” or “this is how a champ would shoot it” but they can outperform ur expectations quite exponentially. i’m currently diamond 2 and struggling bc champs and high diamonds can hit 100kph shots at the weirdest angles, air dribble bump, high flicks and dribble to perfection and are quite literally a brick wall on defense. i’d say raise ur expectations. high diamonds and champs are gonna stunt his growth and he’ll need way more hours.
This is a good video I’m a diamond 2 and my dad is a gold 1 and he is slowly getting batter he is finally going for Ariel’s and better defending and I love playing the game with him 🤙🏽
I think a good thing to help with ray is ball cam I know it feels weird after using it for so long but when I finally made the change to using ball cam a lot more it helped me so much.
I would say for dribbling what really helped me is keeping my car in the circle. Like a small mini game to keep the ball on my car. It subconsciously made me adjust my speed and boost when necessary.
I've been hardstuck c3-gc1 for years. It was kind of amazing and bewildering to see how a lower ranked person approaches these shots. Insane how he immediately went from looking like a Plat to a low champ just being instructed how to approach the shot
After watching I definitely think Ray should incorporate basic air roll adjustments to make angles easier. You’ll notice how even on the shot that cbell said to use air roll that he didn’t use it at all, and it would definitely be easier with it. I think getting into champ you should definitely teach him the basic fundamentals of air rolling and point out times it could make his angles so much easier. Right now I feel like he’s not seeing how much of an impact even small adjustments can make on gameplay. No hate, I think he’s making incredible progress and can’t wait to see him hit champ.
I got into champ and I can't airroll right...My friends call me stupid but I just can't get it into my head...How do you airdribble with airroll right?! I can only control the car when I see the top of my car 💀
This is gonna be the hardest part CBell the gap between plat to champ range is pretty huge. I think what you should do is start working on game sense and then mechanics
I am peak champ although mainly based around diamond 3 although I definitely think this was really helpful. Also love the content which features Ray. Excited to see him reach gc 😊
Maybe not right now, but at some point it would be a huge boost if Ray could switch to PC. All the workshop maps and bakkesmod additions really would speed up the training process. Great series and all the best to Ray!
I would suggest ( as a champ level player ) that you should try to get him consistent with a good kickoff. doesnt even need to be a speed flip just a mid level kickoff which will help him in champ
It might be hard to watch for some ppl, but Ray is also older and looks at things a bit different. Plus they started this a few months back and took a month off. Ray also has a family to support so his training and growth will ebb and flow. I doubt he will be GC by the end of the year, but his progress in the fundamental aspects reads that he will probably peak at C1 by the end of the year. The issue with pushing to GC super quickly is that he's going to lock into 1 playstyle. Which might get him to high C2, but that's where your specialized players start rounding out. His training is actually going great considering his age and coming into this series at gold rank. Most golds just flip at everything.
As an dia 3 i see the potential in ray to get high dia or even champ he understand what he did wrong and he did it right the next time and he is learning fast so keep up the grind
Quick tip also that I like when dribbling, whenever you boost to center the ball make sure you let go of your drive forward imput, it helps getting the perfect amount of speed without over killing it
I remember finding that easier, but you want to get better at tapping boost faster and using less while holding drive forward because it uses less boost. Boost efficiency becomes more important at higher ranks when everyone already knows how to dribble well
You know I used to complain about Ray's rank but in reality, he is the rank he deserves because he is such a quick learner that everything he is taught in the videos, he gets down quickly. However, we mostly see him fail in these videos so it looks like he sucks at everything. I like this new before after style Cbell thanks!
great video! just one thing i feel like a lot of times you said one of the shots is too easy or lame but i honestly disagree. Especially seeing his first attempts panicking on a "simple" shot is a big thing in plat/diamond and just learning how to hit a simple shot with a lot of power can get you very far. i definitely think he should start working on those easier shots first to get the confidence and consistency to flip into the ball with power and move on from there! :)
imo champ just revolves around situational awareness and being able to pass... seems like most my games have scores of a max of 3-5 and the main indicator on which team will most likely win would be the one that can pass to at least one other player for a shot. Seen way to many players still in champ going down the middle or trying to solo carry 1v3 without checking for an opening pass. Still a believer that passing is much harder than shooting an open net for most people lol
started watching this in plat 2 now im diamond 3 in like less than a month. Who said you need to be an SSL to be a pro coacher? Cbell is gc2 and speedrunning this man to gc xD
Probably the reason Ray's voice didn't pick up is because he's got a setting disabled where you can enable/disable your voice being picked up on recordings. (PS feature).
Can't force a man to play, its an incredibly frustrating game. There is no one, I am sorry, NO ONE that can get to GC without sinking minimum 2+k hours. This falls on Ray. I Peaked at champ 2 at just sub 1k hours and can't imagine peaking at GC without at least 2k
