God Ray is so lucky to have someone like you coach him
yes
This has to be one of the best rocket league series on UA-cam right now. It’s the perfect mix of entertaining and educational. You explaining these concepts to someone who is actually a lower rank is genius. We get to watch how you train him and how he practices, we get to watch his progression, and you know that what you’re saying makes sense because you are coaching someone in real time. Genius idea for a series from all angles, keep up the good work.
appreciate that man !
Completely agree
Agreed!
@Learning with AJ can I 1v1 you? I’m plat 3 / diamond (but I play like a higher diamond) and my epic is M A R - C U S
I’ve learned a ton from this series
Ray, this is so good! Even though it can be frustrating, finding yourself failing a drill means that you are pushing yourself at the edges of your current ability. Keep at it because this kind of practice leads to the fastest skill growth!
100% it is also important to remember that the gains you see when you start training come a lot faster because they are low hanging fruit. You will see the biggest improvements from mastering basic fundamentals. The higher up you get the longer it takes to see the results of your training. Additionally progress is not a consistent upward line, it is a series of peaks and valleys. What is important is that your current start is at a higher state than your start point.

Just watched the whole playlist today because of Emmie's video.
You weren't kidding; Ray is legit. I'd love to see a little video on how him and his son are doing. Thanks!
Hey CBell and Ray! This series is great! I’m still learning a lot of this stuff as well but my “ah ha” moment when learning some dribble basics is that there is two different types of braking in rocket league. If you hit brakes while holding gas it does a soft brake and if you hit brake while NOT holding gas it is a more abrupt heavy brake. Not knowing this made me so frustrated learning dribbles because I started so slow that when I would touch the brake without the gas, my car would almost completely stop.
So just a tip for anyone reading this really, experiment with brake and gas/brake and see if that helps your dribble control a bit!
I’ve watched an enormous amount of Rocket League videos, and I have to say this is the most intriguing series I have seen. I just hit plat yesterday for the first time and am working toward grand champ. All of the tips you are giving Ray are so beyond helpful for us lower rank players. I’m definitely going to be doing these exercises in my own training sessions! Thanks for the fantastic content, CBell!
Really loved seeing ray improve and can’t wait til he hits gc and can play against his son!
I cant wait til Ray's in my division and scrubs the floor with my team lol 100

Towards the end of this video, you were really getting at a point that I feel a lot of players and coaches miss: taking time to let your muscles relax and rejuvenate. Think about it, if you go to the gym and work your arms 5 days in a row, you'll be getting lesser and lesser returns for the work put in because your muscles haven't fully healed. Anecdotally, I've found the same thing happens with me and RL. When I hit those inevitable glass ceilings, I've found that taking a day or two off to play another game is highly beneficial when I return to playing a few days later. The muscle memory has had some time to bake into your hands and neural networks, and the muscles needed for those actions are fresh and ready to go. I know it sounds counter intuitive for the "fastest way to grind rank" mindset but IME, load cycling is something that more serious players need to practice and coaches need to preach.
I couldn't agree more. It's weird though. I play rocket league just about every day, for (hopefully) a few hours or so. But when life gets busy and I cant play for a few days, when I play again I get this weird feeling like I've improved by somehow NOT playing. And what you're talking about here is the same thing. There are bad habits we all have in this game, and when trying to learn something new, or a fancy mechanic that changes the way we do things we've done the same way for so long, it's a challenge. We will constantly default to the bad habit, even while consciously doing our best to avoid it. But then, you take a break, and that bad habit is suddenly harder to default to than the new habits we were practicing. I love the psychological side of these types of things, and I find it fascinating how easily it correlates to the comparison to physical exercise you made.
I personally feel like this is a really good series. I know you’re trying to get him to GC by Christmas, but I feel you’re trying to go to quick. I feel Ray needs to keep practicing the fundamentals like power shots etc. more and focus on fewer things at a time. The reason he was messing up his dribbles is because he’s focusing on way too many things to learn at once.
True, but also learning many things at once helps to learn other things faster and more efficiently, sounds like a double edged sword to me.
Gain more experience, improve overall mechanics, and improve game sense
however, as you mentioned, because hes being exposed to the possibilities and limits too quickly, hes trying to do too much, overestimating his capabilities which is common during these practices, and get mentally and maybe physically frustrated & exhausted.
Edit: Im just saying an opposite view from yours, sure short term he will learn slow, long term he is already aware and mechanically good enough to improve further is all im saying.
@@Official_Solok I completely agree that he’ll improve long term. But I just feel that the ability to 1v1 his son by the end of the year is a goal that he just won’t be able to reach.
@@Freeze-317 Yeah thats a pretty tough goal to reach without the best possible method of teaching.
I'll just witness how this series unfolds and we'll know.

I love the swimmer laps drill! Working on speed onto and off of the wall is so useful. I think what would be useful is making sure you turn off the wall left on one wall and right off of the other.
As someone who's going through the same kind of journey, it's really helpeful to see both the failures and successes. And most of all, not just HOW to do something, but how to correct it when you're doing it wrong. I'm definitely going to be powersliding better now!
Not sure if you will see this but this series is awesome. I’m 55 yrs old and I’ve been trying for the last year to get to plat. I feel like things aren’t getting better. Seeing Ray gives me hope cause I feel like he is doing great and I know I can do this too. Do you do private coaching or anything else. I might be interested. Thanks!
To platinum I can help you get there easily you should add me or give me or epic
@@arksactuallyterrible I feel like I’m plat now working my way to diamond. I’m plat 2
This series is amazing, please keep doing more! I think it would be great to really showcase all the training and drills from start to finish, showing us how Ray improved over time with the same mechanics.
Huge shout-out to Ray for being cool with all us nerds watching him struggle and learn. It takes a lot of courage and determination and it only solidifies the fact Ray will 100% be GC. Wishing Ray a speedy wave-dash recovery :)
Ray is insane hes 46 years old hes plat he learns so quick ray deserves to be ab gc and he has an eye injury god bless ray and wish ray a lot of rocket league luck. This has to be one of the best rocket league series on UA-cam right now. It’s the perfect mix of entertaining and educational. You explaining these concepts to someone who is actually a lower rank is genius.
CBell, I think it might be beneficial to Ray if you started bringing in other Rocket League coaches to give some useful tips. You're doing a great job teaching him and giving him a tailored program but I know personally, two people can say the same thing in their own way and one message sometimes resonates with the student better. Something like a guest appearance every other episode to keep things fresh and give Ray a new perspective could really help, especially if the guest has experience coaching players. Great stuff man!
This would be a GREAT idea and it would bring more eyes to the channel with a feature like this.
Glad to see Ray is improving one thing if/when Ray practices on his own if he uses Bakkesmod there is a option to randomly bump him when he is in free play I use it to practice recoveries while with the ball.
Being a new player at the age of 31 and logging only 72 hours. And being in ELO hell. These vids have helped me so much. Seeing ray is inspiring and helps me see the game better and know what I NEED. Not what I want. That’ll come with practice and patience. Thanks for these vids. I’m rooting for you ray! Maybe I’ll catch you in game on the grind. Keep it up and thanks for these vids.
These drills you're showing are so helpful. I feel like I can do them and progress along with Ray as well. Definitely one of the best RL series I've ever seen. Way more helpful than a pro doing a "road to ssl" series.
On an added note, a lot of these drills can be done on the Pillars map, and since everything is close, you have to spend less time just driving, but also works on quicker reactions between swimmer laps and recoveries in the middle of the field.
Just tried this (I'm a champ player) on pillars map, and it even took me a minute to get into it. I can definitely see why this drill was challenging for Ray.
It's wild because while I'm watching this. I'm practicing also what ur telling him to do. And I feel myself getting so much better as well it's wild.
I really enjoy seeing ray go through the frustrations we all do when trying to learn new mechanics
I have a little tipp at the recovering: when he is landing he can press the powerdrift button to land way softer. I hope I could help you with that.
First off, I’d be pretty surprised if he didn’t already know that. Second off, it’s power slide.
@@Freeze-317 It's just help for Ray. I have been playing RL for a while, and I didn't know about powersliding to conserve momentum until recently. Second off, it's powerslide, not power slide.
i love the idea of making someone improve at the game by your knowledge
I really hope Ray is gonna have access to custom maps soon. That’ll definitely get him to GC by christmas
This is the most valuable rocket league video series on youtube. CBell single handedly gutting the Rocket League Coaching scene
Loved this format. I think the idea of the series is for us lower ranked guys to live through Ray having an experienced player like you coach to fast-track him through the ranks like we would like to do! So teaching us tips and showing us Ray practice is also helping us learn how to train so we can also rank-up! Showing some games once he has improved enough would feel so satisfactory as well!
This is easily one of my favourite series on UA-cam!
I’m progressing through ranks and learning mechanics myself, so I’m trying to pay close attention to the series to learn more.
The failing and tips in this video will be more beneficial for me and can also be quite entertaining to watch
Best content these days!!! 💯
And i wish him a fast recovery!
Feel better Ray. Can't wait to see you in the D/C/GC lobbies
Ray is such a nice guy i love like everytime you teach him something he manage's to put in his gameplay

I played on rays team in ranked! He fitted in soooo well and scored some class goals with your bounce dribble techniques!
These videos are fantastic. When I started I sweat to diamond super hard. Now I'm plat 1. After watching the drills you give Ray, I realized, I don't do any of this.
As of this video I'm back to diamond 2, and trying everything I see here.
Man this is the only video I really expect during the week. Really love the series
I'm here for the full journey. Having nothing but success is surface level, unless Ray is just that good (he might be). Even though this is Ray's journey, it is a great series for anyone wanting to sharpen their Rocket League skills. Because of that, showing failure is just as important (if not more so) than showing success.
Leaving in some of the real time qna dialogue is extremely helpful and entertaining as it tackles some nuances that can go over our heads without ever realizing it.
As a father who is also playing rl cause of my son I want say thank u. I totally like your improvements and gives me hope still learning more. I wish u all the best. Btw, a great work to cbell, u r a good teacher and I know what I have to learn through this vids. Greetings from germany.
People getting inspired from everywhere, that’s nice. I hope you improve as well as Ray does
omg finally i love these series i hope the best for ray
As a C2-C3(2s main) some of the drills are useful at my rank, like swimmers laps, so many players i see dont know how to recover off a corner challenge and knowing how to do that would make a difference.
Recoveries in general helps so much with car control!
One of the best vids of this series yet. Definitely liking the extra footage personally
I hope Ray gets better! All the best for rays eyes!
I enjoy watching you getting into the nitty-gritty with Ray… I’m gold and it’s nice to hear pointers that are more practical at my level.
CBell, try changing the game speed to 0.5x so Ray will have more time to think about what his fingers should be doing for some of the mechanics. Like in the swimmer laps drill, you can clearly see that he just doesn't know which buttons to press and in which order, so his brain just jams up. If you slow it down he'll have the time to think about what needs to happen.
And if even that fails then just brake it down to smaller and smaller pieces. Separate each action and then drill until he gets one step further consistently.
Like 1st, with out boost, drive to the wall and jump (stop actions).
2nd With out boost drive to the wall, jump, air roll (stop).
3rd With out boost drive to the wall, jump, air roll, pitch up/down (stop).
4th With out boost drive to the wall, jump, air roll, pitch up/down, land(stop).
5th With out boost drive to the wall, jump, air roll, pitch up/down, wave dash land etc.
And then add boost.
When ever someone is not getting it, just slow down and break it down to smaller and smaller bits until they get it. Just like when practicing playing an instrument.
Best gaming series out on YT right now. Keep up the work guys!
CBell… this series is a winner. Would love to see you do this with other people in the future.
I loved this video! Keep it up Ray, failures are lessons in and of themselves, your making great progress! I'm going to start incorporating swimmer laps into my warm up routine, those look super useful
Amazing vid cbell, i wish i could get coached and trained like this. Its so fun to watch amazing and great people like you teach people who are in need. we al respect you, adore the series. keep it up
Rays “sorry” after messing up the power slide was wholesome
Awesome series! Me and my friends look forward to each episode. Great stuff!
And Ray, please keep up the amazing work. If things are frustrating and progress is slow, it's because you're challenging yourself and working on something you're not comfortable with...which in rocket league is also an amazing way to improve. Keep practicing, keep playing and looking forward to your progress.
Ray is such an absolute champion. Love this series, and I love the longer episodes with inclusions of failures and frustrations. It's relatable, helpful, and inspiring to see the dedication it takes to learn every small, seemingly insignificant mechanic that goes into reaching high ranks once you combine them all.
We love you Ray, keep it up!
I love this Series so much. Keep up the good work.
I remember before we had training packs we had to do certain things to improve. One massive one was practicing upside down aerials to familiarize ourselves with aerial car control. The many lessons learned from that apply to a lot of car control mechanics I don't even think about these days.
"Future training tip" something I have people do that I coach for recoveries is bouncing their nose off the wall. It helps learn two different things at once. They gotta have slight car control but it also helps learning how to roll your car for wheels down with random outcomes Everytime. But I do like your drill with bumping being meta. Teaches him recoveries off of bumps that alot of people don't/can't practice outside of game.
Cbell "Meet Ray"
Me: "HIIIII RAY"
Just a tip and a training drill for Rey, get him to fly form goal to goal aerialing, that’s his weakness and plays a lot onto other mechanics! I’m loving the videos!:)
Loving the in-depth training sessions. Informative = entertaining for me, I'm sure I'm not alone there.
i think the extra stuff is perfect. entertainment is cool but alot of people are here to have informative content. seeing the drills more will help me replicate them once he gets closer to champ 😎
Let the community design training packs for him so that he can practice. When I was plat/low diamond (I am champ 1 now) training packs helped tremendously when it came to saves and being quick to shots. Let him do these every day.
true
Bro the thanovic "bronze to whatever it is" shots pack gets used constantly here. Even out of that ranking because they're set up so nice for other stuff.
@@LivingBreathing would be better content if the community designed it rather than using a training pack that everyone knows. It’s just my opinion
Keep leaving the extra video. I think it’ll help a lot of us who are also trying to improve and may have the same questions as Ray.
Excellent, loving this series! Get well soon Ray!
This is the best series ever can want for the upcoming videos. Keep up the good work Ray
It’s very interesting to watch and remember when I was plat and realizing things that used to be difficult aren’t anymore.
Sweet baby jesus i need more of Ray's in my veins! amazing series Cbell, keep it up, cant wait to see more of Ray's progress!!! Keep going Ray you're doing great!
The best series on whole yt i have watched every one of these and i will watch till the end
I absolutely love this series
Rays made more progression in the last 2 videos then I have in over 6 months , rays going to be a monster
I may not be a high rank or anything, but I do a drill of going around the ball from midfield in the air over and over to work on my car control upsidown, it may help rays car control as well, but just a suggestion
Life is better when a new Ray video drops
This stuff is so helpful. I’m Diamond and learning things that I haven’t picked up anywhere else. I eagerly await each installment!!
I love the extra bits where you leave in more casual chatter and tips
This is easily the best rocket league series no cap
I am loving these videos. I much prefer the longer format with tips and chatting. Brilliant series!!
Exciting series love it and I can see how much ray is improved very good.
here's a few tips I think its going to make rays journey easier
but first I think its going a bit too quick I mean it is impressive to reach plat from gold in a few weeks.
1. maybe like not focusing on wave dashing starting off the wall maybe just getting started to airroll around and fly to some boost pads.
2. Powerslide when landing faster recoveries
3. flying from goal post to post to just get started in aerials and air dribbling in the future.
4.Im pretty sure ray is on console so there is a training pack when your outside the map (its a big glitchy)
here is the code 5991-D8FD-9D36-CD5A (try this when Ray has gotten a lot better in the air).
Can't wait until ray hits grand champion!!
did ray ever recover from his injury? and will he come back for more training?? let us know cbell
Hey CBell, seeing him struggle in the air reminds me of what I did to get out of that air roll hell. I’d start from inside the goal and pick a spot on the other goal and fly the entire length of the field and try to hit that spot in the goal. At first not close, then hitting the spots, then working in air rotation to hitting the spots.
Idk, I’m no expert but it helped me when I was his rank
Hey CBell.
I have Seen myself having Problems with the Air control and also Not being able to keep the ball on my Car when Dribbling.
The Most useful Tip i got from some UA-cam Video was that you Just do Not Push the left Stick all the way to the left or right. So gently Touch the Stick only a Fee degrees Into the direction. This way He should Stop wobbling left and right or Up and down all the time so That He does Not have to correct Each move He Makes in the Air. That Makes flying in the Air way easier.
Hope that helps and he can implement that in Future Sessions.
Wish you all the best.
Cheers from Germany
I love this series! Keep it up its sooo fun and i also learn some stuff from it. and u really see diffirence keep it up!
It's impressive what you're doing man, some many people paying for coaching, and you're doing with someone and recording for us.its coaching for free. I Love Cbell,I was plat2 in 1s, now almost Diamond, and 2s I was Diamond 2 and now I'm was able to get it in Champion!
Playing from the wall is something that I struggle with as well. I can do it in the training packs, but once I need to do it in a game, I suddenly can't judge my cars jump off the wall to line up with the ball. I cant even imagine trying to do it like Ray, with his difficulty using the cars air control. Impressive the progress he's already made. It won't be too long before he is ahead of me.
One way I often use to practice my aerial's is by picking a a hexagon on the wall and flying to it. Starting off with some that are mostly straight ahead and then slowly going to harder to reach spots.
But then again if you are on pc a rings map probably is more beneficial.
You should do this again! This is probably the best rocket league road to GC videos and series I have ever seen. Keep up the good work
This was the best one by far I love the format it’s great to watch
Peak RL content here CBell. I like the longer vids too and seeing the fails and hearing you guys discuss. Makes for a great video!

Anyone else addicted to this series ❤
this is great information for players learning. Lots of things I rarely see mentioned that will improve your game massively.
this series is just... perfect
Since your last video on ray he has improved so much.
The most frustrating thing about learning to dribble is not in the practice itself, but actually applying it in real match cuz I spent around a month everyday just doing dribbling packs for hours and absolutely destroying them but when I try it in game I cant even keep the ball on my car for longer than 2 seconds. Im a plat 3 btw
It's called game speed !
I'm a big believer in NOT doing freestyle all the time. For just the reasons you mentioned . If you can't pull it off in game , at game speed, with opponents coming at you and the ball, then it's really not worth anything!
I'd rather take my lumps in ranked. I am starting to see a little benefit in training packs though .
It's cuz in a match you want to look at your opponents while you're dribbling so you end up not looking at your car and the ball marker, unlike in training. Try tuning the opponents out, you'll still see them in your peripheral.
Diamond 3 here, I learned quite a few tricks from this episode to be honest, thank you!
I am enjoying the conversation and the drill practice. It really showcases things that are typical weaknesses and the thought process of learning it and executing it. I will try the swimmer laps to see if I can even do those
Really like the swimmer laps drill. I'll be working that one here in a few minutes for sure!
this is what i was expecting and needed in all the other videos.
Bro really thought I wouldn’t miss that failed wave dash at 8:16
