I tend to agree. As far as price, it is in the same ballpark as the Helix or Kemper floor unit, but honestly, I use an HX Stomp as an amp modeler and outboard pedals. Works great for what I need it to do. I do own a Helix, but it has too many features to be a terrific piece of gear unless you want to spend a ton of time tweaking and saving snapshots (really the most useful feature). Tried several other modelers and just haven’t found one that speaks to me yet. Holding final judgement for now. I’ll watch this for a year or so before getting too serious.
I love Fender. That said, the modeling sounds comparable to everything else out there. I wasn’t blown away, it’s not bad at all, but it’s not $1699 good. The interface looks pretty cool though, if this was 800 bucks, I’d be more into this, but 1700 isn’t a price I’d pay when I can get a Quad Cortex or kemper with years of bugs worked out and patches. I’m curious to try it, but not buy it.

Nice tech but it becomes outdated very quickly. Might as well just do plug-ins that cost much less with an audio interface if you prefer digital modeling.

I’ve never played with any of this stuff, never owned an amp and at 66 just now ordered up some leftie guitars. Just found this 2 days ago and was just planning to buy a Roland Jc-40. Metal has never been my thing but buying something like this allows me to consider different options. Maybe people like me are the target audience they’re after. No invested in a bunch of gear, this saves me huge bucks and time. Not sure why I’d need a real amp now, just an additional cab or two. Playing Chet Atkins’s through one of these could be cool.
Saw the EXP assign and then they showed the stomps were encoders. That was the moment I said, this is the perfect form factor and I've owned the Helix & Kemper Racks with Friends having the Axe FX & Cortex. Fender does more than any of them and has the money. The fact the VP knows how to use the unit and is there doing the demo is a testament to how Fender remains as a company. Only thing I hope they do is release a full featured App version of this like Helix Native, not just an editor. If they do, I'm probably selling the rest of my toys except for a few uniques like the Martin Stereo Comp, S.A. EQ2 and my Bobber Wah or Boss/Roland synth related guitar gear. Plus the 1K Watt FSFR cabs for only $550? Won't need for anything else for normal guitar production or live shows. Just build your workflow around it and be happy. Go Fender! Been a fender owner and player for 30 years. Plus these days, I'll give you all my money if you can tell the difference between the Real Amp & Pedals vs IR & Multi-FX in the mix. If you play on a label produced album or in one of those bands, it's just getting crushed and listened to on cell phone speakers mostly anyway. Lmao I think I'll go with Carry Ons and not breaking my back to get to shows. I think this pedal might even replace the HX Stomp as the most used device out there and might even replace some people's boutique pedals.
Cant wait for the secondary market in a couple years. Would love to see a lower cost stripped down version. Not sure what to cut out for thay but having something like this affordable for average people thay just like to play would be wonderful.
yup. whatever runs the software in a decent enough amount, 1 in, stereo send return, stereo outs, small screen, keep most knobs.. basically an HX Stomp lol. The reason I'm not in for a fractal or this is simply the price for the insane amount of features i'll never need.
i honestly think no one is going to copy this. not because its bad its just a lot of work to do the reverse engineering. the rest of the market is going with IR technology and this is actual coding for each sound. a ton of Chinese stuff kinda figured out that its too much work.
Fender Mustang Micro is probably the closest thing, its using similar tech i suspect albiet stripped down. It was noticably better quality then my mustang amp i think the 24 bit upgrade had to do with it, its just not as tweakable/modular but i wonder if you could hack it to be. Considering the micro was only $100 and had the latest and greatest in modelling tech, even an audio interface built in, yeah 1600 is a little much for probably similar tech in there.
Looking like hands down, this thing has the current "best", most deeply intuitive yet crazy flexible and deep GUI out there in this space. And the connectivity options in the back are insane. Impressive, but I must sample this for myself in person.
I’ve been using the Blackstar Amped 2 for all my gigs throughout 2023 ( intended for it to just be a back up fly rig, but ended up using it as my main rig). One of the main selling points of the Blackstar ( apart from its simplicity)is the ability to be able to power any 8 or 16 ohm unpowered cab. I don’t get why they can’t use the same technology in all these modellers. Having to go out and purchase extra frfr cabs is what puts me off the most when considering upgrading to something like this 🙄. Lee trying his best to keep engaged as the fender guy starts deep diving 🥴. Will be interesting to see the boy’s opinion when they’re both back in the room doing a proper demo. 🤔
I was actually impressed with the sounds and the features. I have a few early 70's silver face amps that sound phenomenal but have issues. Looking forward to hear comparisons with old vintage Fenders. I got the impressions its only models of Fenders modern line up? They could make a killing if they included EPIC old Black and Brown faces, 59 Bassman's etc from their vaults. For that price it should be included.
Arguably, but I see this as a tricked out Stomp XL or stripped down Helix LT, which would put the price more in the $799 to $1099 range - at least in my view. I guess we’ll see if the market agrees.
Well, all I need is a (1) Clean with chorus and echo (2) Crunch rythm tone (3) Lead tone for soloing. I would like to see a smaller, more affordable version.
If Fender wants to show good faith in this direction they should put out a huge update on the Gtx combo amps. In my mind those are awesome and the more of those they sell the more of these they will sell.
Lag free switching FTW! I just hate it when I loose the first downbeat on every chorus because of the switching lag. If the FRFR is better than the competition and the effects are ok I’ll be getting one. If the HRDX III is modelled that is. 👍
I'v been listening to this on my mobile phone and i can't believe my ears of how good the amps SOUND AND i wauld bet my life that this will put the big boys out of business AND I WILL DEFINITELY BE BUYING ONE'i am using THE GT 1000 CAÑT WEIGHT well done to all the GUYS who was involved ☆☆☆☆♡♡♡
The key to market success is longevity - if Fender keeps developing and supporting this for years to come this may be a great product. Many people hate Line6 products but what they did with Helix, which debuted 8 years ago (!!!) is a prime example to follow: instead of putting a new model every year and abandon the previous one they keep the platform alive. But I keep my fingers crossed - competition is not a bad thing for us, customers
It's funny how every one jumps on the digital wagon now :D I remember when people were looking at me weird when I showed up without an amp and was done with my live setup in 3min. Now it's becoming more and more standard. Not because it sounds better or anything, but because it's just so easy, you have more control over your sound and you have more time to actually play guitar instead of turning knobs and taking 100 photographs of little units so you remember the settings... That being said, we need a tone master unit with an expression pedal built in. Why advertise it as a full featured unit and then you still have to plug in stuff to make it complete. I've been playing a digital modeler for years and the expression pedal is one of the most important featues.
I love the idea, and I will say that it has a WAY better footprint and UI than any other product other than the QC. But it appears to be bigger than the QC, which makes it a challenge to get on my board. That’s the reason I haven’t embraced Fractal, Kemper, or Helix. All their floor devices are too big. (and the HX stomp and GT1000 have too small of a screen to be easy) Small size and price is why the ToneX has been so popular, but it’s missing all the other effects features, and the UI is not good. So Fender is headed in the right direction. The key for me will not be the amps as much as the effects pedals. I also don’t know if they’ll continue to support it with updates and add ons as frequently as others do. But I’ll keep an eye on it.
It’s an amazing product but let’s also give some credit to TC Electronics for their G System. Many ideas came from that, the first light around the buttons, 4 external loops, amp switching control, full MIDI….and all these about 16 years ago!! They where way a head of the time. It’s sad that they gave up on multi effects. I guess the money is on smaller pedals.
I think the UI is closest to Headrush. Id like to see an honest A/B with Headrush Prime or even Core... both of which are substantially less expensive and more fully featured.
Love the way it sounds. I have one complaint. why does this unit not have the expression pedal on it or included? for $1,700 we would expect this unit to be more complete. If I bought one I would spend money on an aftermarket expression pedal those costs so much less.
People want all types of different expression pedals. Many like actual rocker pedals, but others may prefer a fader or knob. Like you said, getting one that suits you is easy at good prices.
For me, Fender kills it with that kind of intuitive screen. I feel like if Helix integrates this kind of touch screen, then it's game over for the modeling industry.
Has anyone noticed all the modeling boxes squeek a lot from the slightest fingering issue? I don't recall real amps doing that but I haven't owned one In awhile. I drives me nuts when I'm recording. The important thing to me is how does it record direct. I have ToneX, Amplitube and have tried or owned a bunch of hardware and software modelers. Many sound good in the room but lose someting in a recording, even ToneX doesn't translate as well as I would like.
Great design! The Fender Tone Master Pro has a nice big screen and handy controls that suites fiddling with a "Skeuomorphic" control signal chain everyone uses but implement poorly. Priced for artists who own supercars and yachts.
I’ve played through this and when you pair it with the Tonemaster FR12, it seriously feels like a real amp. It’s honestly the first time I’ve enjoyed a modeler. I keep a hx stomp xl on my board for delay, reverb, and modulation, but never could get a good tone with it amp wise. Tried the headrush, big helix, etc. But I sat down with this thing and had it figured out, making killer presets in maybe 5-10 minutes. If you can get ahold of one to try it, do it. You’ll be really surprised.
Software and user interface-wise this looks great. Not sure I need another modelling option though. Been gigging and practicing with a POD Go since it came out.
I still hear an undertone tube amp luddite skepticism in many of the comments. I started playing guitar during the 'Fab Four' era. I still use a Fender Tube Amp, but run a Boss GX-100 thru it. This is a long time noodler's dream for me. But I can't justify it on a retirement income. (Will take donations though 😝 )
Times are indeed changing this is pretty cool. I still want to trade in my valve amp considering a couple factors in life personal and otherwise for a tone master Princeton. Maybe this holiday season.
Not sure if it’s just me or the way this sound has been captured in the video (although it’s direct!?), but this unit sounds like my £70 Zoom multi effects stompbox😂 Great design though and interface looks awesome.
Great video. But I'll stick with my HX Stomp for now. I was not really impressed. Could have done without the fender guy. Just needed to hear more playing.
Every time I see one of these types of vids, I always wonder if I made the right choice on a pedal I just purchased maybe days or weeks before. The problem with this technology is... that if you wait for the next best thing to come out, you'll never make a decision and purchase something. If I let it, this vid could easily spoil my mindset about my current pedal board. But, I love my Boss GX-100 with a TONEX pedal in the effects loop. I refuse to let these kinds of vids change my perspective about that. With all that being said, If I were a rich man, and was able to make the purchase, I'd definitely give this Tone Master Pro a shot. Nice job Fender!
This has a nice feature set. The cleans sound good. I found the higher gain sounds in this demo a bit off to my ear. This may come down to this being a new unit and I am guessing that people will figure out how to get the most out of the unit. I think the price is going to be tough. Is this really better than a FM9? We know fractal Has a great track record of continuing to update the FM9 . Same with the line6 stuff.
Not sure if that is sarcasm but I did not mean to imply it would sound better after being broke in like and amp speaker. I was trying to say that as people figure out to use it better over time it might improve. The Helix did not sound very good to me when it came out but over time people figured out how to get the most from the unit. L6 also have made some significant improvements lately on the virtual cab front which has improved it quite a bit.
I think this is cool and will work great but i agree a smaller version that you could incorporate woth a current pedalboard would be nice and maybe cheaper. So at that point mine as well stick with hx stomp if its good enough for CHRIS BUCK good enough for me.
Now it could be just me but there were times when the touch screen seemed laggy….. and the demonstrator had to press twice and when swiping at times wasn’t smooth. Would drive me crazy, if not the operator (?) then I hope updates would smooth this out.
If this sounds as good as the tone master amps, this is pretty much the holy grail for digital modeling. Fender, should send me one since I am too poor to buy it lol
@@Willemguitar tone master deluxe even sounded good direct into my macbook. Of course, speakers sound best, but you can buy the fender FR speakers for this and even have it setup in stereo or wet/dry.
It looks good, but they have priced themselves out the core market imo. Joining the race this late in, they'd need to be more competitive price wise to get a foot in the door.
It’s Fender, they have more name recognition and brand loyalty than anybody in the industry. I don’t think they’ll have any trouble getting their foot in the door.
They do have a big name but not in the digital space. I bet that they're going to abandon this thing a lot faster than line 6 or Kemper too. Those units have been giving free updates with new features for almost 10 years
Let’s release a premium modeler 8 years after Line 6 and 3 years after Neural, we are FENDER, everyone will switch and pay us the price the others have earned…cause we’re FENDER! #GoodLuck lemme know when you drop the price by 50% In a super soft guitar market to boot. May the odds forever be in your favor
Agreed. My thought process is, that with their Tone Master line of Amps being around ~$1000, they didn't want to cannibalize sales of their own amps. There has already been discussion ad nauseum for the Tone Masters only modeling 1 amp, vs modelers modeling hundreds, so they didn't want to immediately create that kind of dissent within their own brand. So they decided to launch this and price it sky high. At $1700, it makes zero sense choosing this over the already matured Helix/Fm9/Quad Cortex/Kemper etc. Don't be surprised if they launch the stripped down "Tone Master blues club" or whatever next year for a much more realistic price.
sounds like still has the digital “wash” kinda saggy low end on the distortion. Also, when changing all your patches how do you dial in unity gain on the fly? you turn on your distortion and all the sudden it’s lost in the mix even though at home it sounds ok? and how about spilling drinks on it? good review but leaves a few questions
I agree. I love technology and I own digital technology. I own a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, UA effects Dream 65, UA Ruby 63, Boss Katana MK II etc. I think the best good sounding without breaking the bank product so far is the Katana amps. I’ve spent a lot on technology. And although I love what this unit can do I can’t justify paying close to $3000 Canadian with tax for this unit.
Can you imagine Fender supporting this device for 10 years like Line 6 has done with Helix? I don't think so. They'll abandon this in a year or two. They should have just stuck with the Tone Master amps, which IMO served a niche market that doesn't really have any alternatives.
One thing I noticed in that video is that multiple times he would select something on the touch screen and have to do it again as it didn’t quite register, that doesn’t looks very promising. The FRFR cabs look great though and much more amp looking than the others out there. I watched the R.J Ronquillo demo after this one and he managed to get some killer sounds out of it so no doubt it sounds good but like others have said I think it should be fully loaded on release and the price seems a little high considering you can’t capture with it 🤷♂️
Interesting. They've forced you to change format and move to a different room decorated with strictly Fender products. As much as I love and respect Fender for its products, I am here for usual, cosy and funny Anderton's show with silly jokes, awesome lick trading in a familiar, trademark surrounding.
@ralfklemens8528 Did you miss the word "Pro"? It's aimed squarely at recording musicians, with the option of using it on stage. Did you miss Lee asking pointedly, "Why did you start with the top of the range?"?
Looks like a pretty good unit for Stage use. It doesn't sound significantly different or better than many Modelers already in the Market. The UI looks pretty good, but it demonstrates how many settings/parameters are involved in getting a good sound. I think it's too big for desktop use, and the price is prohibitively high. A price of around $1,200 US is probably where it should be, but I don't know if that's practical given its hardware features. I've had an HX Stomp for 2.75 years, and it meets all my needs. I got the amazing Helix Native Plugin on sale for $50, so a total price for both of $550. I don't think the Tone Master Pro would add $1,150 of value over what I already have. 😎
This is the intuitive interface that I’ve wanted but the $1700 price point is way too high for what most will pay for this. Maybe a smaller unit in the $700 range would be easier to stomach.
It was inevitable that fender would do something like this, especially after the tone master. From what I can see and hear, it seems to be a well designed piece of kit that sounds great. The UI in particular seems like it was designed with usability in mind, as evidenced for example by little things like the three different methods for adjust knob parameters. Though the intra-switch distances seem a bit tight. Anyway, good for them. This will only help spur even more innovation. Love it.
I work in a music shop and was able to try this out a few days ago. I will say from a visual standpoint I think it’s my favorite modeler out there. The UI looks great and is easy to use. With that being said - it definitely doesn’t sound any better than everything else that’s out there.

Looking forward to hear comparisons with old vintage Fenders. I got the impressions its only models of Fenders modern line up? They could make a killing if they included EPIC old Black and Brown faces, 59 Bassman's etc from their vaults. For that price it should be included.
The interface is brilliant!
Fender really fully loaded this thing. Amazing work.
Half the price is the unit, the other half is the Fender logo.
R&D.....but at the same time, all the other competitors are pretty similar in price too.
Arguably, but I see this as a tricked out Stomp XL or stripped down Helix LT, which would put the price more in the $799 to $1099 range - at least in my view. I guess we’ll see if the market agrees.
The R&D into a new product like this is unreal. Especially with the features and interface. Price is fair in context of similar, established products.

Oh golly, I once starred in a film called "Three Knobs and the Truth" many years ago to help fund my way through university.
Ah memories!
The interface looks incredible. I wonder if the models match up to Fractal?? Can't wait to hear the comparisons.
I"m not buying another modeller, but I am keen for one of those cabs
Cool video. Thanks for the demo! This is probably the most intuitive of this level boxes I’ve seen.
Lee's facial expressions betray his English reserve at times. 😂
The Fender rep sales talk is a bit tough to swallow
@@jjdubois6101 100% Lee wasn't buying it
The key to market success is longevity - if Fender keeps developing and supporting this for years to come this may be a great product. Many people hate Line6 products but what they did with Helix, which debuted 8 years ago (!!!) is a prime example to follow: instead of putting a new model every year and abandon the previous one they keep the platform alive. But I keep my fingers crossed - competition is not a bad thing for us, customers
It's cool but I don't see what this is bringing to the table compared to the Helix and the Axe FX.
(and the HX stomp and GT1000 have too small of a screen to be easy)
Small size and price is why the ToneX has been so popular, but it’s missing all the other effects features, and the UI is not good. So Fender is headed in the right direction.
The key for me will not be the amps as much as the effects pedals.
I also don’t know if they’ll continue to support it with updates and add ons as frequently as others do. But I’ll keep an eye on it.
this fender fellow is sharp as a tack. well done. dude knows how to handle an interview.
At that price you could get a Kemper, way better sounding, consistant updates, new liquid profiling etc..
Just ordered this and the cab. Can't wait to mess around with it.
It’s been a few months, what do you think so far?
It’s an amazing product but let’s also give some credit to TC Electronics for their G System. Many ideas came from that, the first light around the buttons, 4 external loops, amp switching control, full MIDI….and all these about 16 years ago!! They where way a head of the time. It’s sad that they gave up on multi effects. I guess the money is on smaller pedals.
12:15 THIS is this reason I sold my fractal and I'm buying the TMP
Really well done video, good job guys
I think the UI is closest to Headrush. Id like to see an honest A/B with Headrush Prime or even Core... both of which are substantially less expensive and more fully featured.
The UI is killer. If I didn't already have a Kemper and an Axe FX I might think about it.
Sure, sound demo wasn't amazing.
Proud of it aren't they!!!???
Love the way it sounds. I have one complaint. why does this unit not have the expression pedal on it or included? for $1,700 we would expect this unit to be more complete. If I bought one I would spend money on an aftermarket expression pedal those costs so much less.
People want all types of different expression pedals. Many like actual rocker pedals, but others may prefer a fader or knob. Like you said, getting one that suits you is easy at good prices.
For me, Fender kills it with that kind of intuitive screen. I feel like if Helix integrates this kind of touch screen, then it's game over for the modeling industry.
Lovely piece of kit , but im more than happy with the BOSS GT 1000 , it does everything and more than I could ever need .
I agree!
Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
Has anyone noticed all the modeling boxes squeek a lot from the slightest fingering issue? I don't recall real amps doing that but I haven't owned one In awhile. I drives me nuts when I'm recording. The important thing to me is how does it record direct. I have ToneX, Amplitube and have tried or owned a bunch of hardware and software modelers. Many sound good in the room but lose someting in a recording, even ToneX doesn't translate as well as I would like.
Fantastic video on a product I am genuinely excited to try out.
20:49 really cool hearing Pete play some driving rock stuff here. Very different from his normal blues stuff we see him do
Amazing stuff. At $1700.00 though, it could be awhile for the hobbyist/home player like myself...
My thought too $1700 is a very big investment for a lot of people that are not at the professional level.
You’ll be really surprised.
too bulky. I dont want to carry such a big heavy box.
@@ymelfilm it weighs like 9 pounds?
4 kg? heavier than a guitar?? come on. This is a good stuff but too bulky. @@IanBennettGuitar
@@IanBennettGuitar Wait till this guy finds out what a 4x12 cab weighs 🤣
No dubt: the best digital modeler out there today... The simplest and intuitive on the market
You've got my attention, lets see how they develop the software side in the year ahead.
Seems more like a professional unit than hobby.
I take you word for it, that the knobs feel so good.
Not sure if it’s just me or the way this sound has been captured in the video (although it’s direct!?), but this unit sounds like my £70 Zoom multi effects stompbox😂 Great design though and interface looks awesome.
It’s just you
The UI is amazing.
"a preset in a preset" its like Fender think they invented snapshots lol
I have one, it nails everything I want and I use it at my desk as an interface as well.
Same with the line6 stuff.
im sure they will have to play it in for a few hundred hours to take the edge off of some more aggressive tones.
Do you get a studio tech degree with it. Still like the volume knob on my guitar for all that. Amp few pedals and as the captain said flap mi trousers
another amazing product i can't afford 🍻
Omg - I for sure want the Fender Pant Flapper FRFR cab!!
I think this is cool and will work great but i agree a smaller version that you could incorporate woth a current pedalboard would be nice and maybe cheaper. So at that point mine as well stick with hx stomp if its good enough for CHRIS BUCK good enough for me.
I just like to think that all the magic comes out of Chris Buck’s fingers.
Line 6 did brilliant with Helix line.
Helix 2.0 is bound to be soon.
Looks like I'm about to go digital. Thanks again Fender....
I'd consider a little brother version of the Tone Master Pro for half the price at some point if one ever came out
Now it could be just me but there were times when the touch screen seemed laggy….. and the demonstrator had to press twice and when swiping at times wasn’t smooth.
Listen to the outro of this video and tell me again it’s the holy grail 😵💫🤐
GLAD TO SEE THOSE MONITORS EITHER SIDE OF YOU CAP, AT THE RIGHT ANGLE, DONE MY OLD HEART GOOD, TOP MARKS FENDER.
#GoodLuck lemme know when you drop the price by 50%
In a super soft guitar market to boot.
@@trevor4533 The blues club idea I could definitely get behind
Love the way you can turn physical footswitch knobs to turn knob settings and also the easy to use tap screen and display!
great idea, I hope it's not it Achilles heel
im sure that EVH conversation went exactly how he described
I can’t imagine Fender even asked them 😂
LOL .... THIS
Cheaper to get an evh distortion pedal instead which is £200 than use a EVH amp on a fender tone master amp simulater which is £1350.😊
sounds like still has the digital “wash” kinda saggy low end on the distortion. Also, when changing all your patches how do you dial in unity gain on the fly? you turn on your distortion and all the sudden it’s lost in the mix even though at home it sounds ok? and how about spilling drinks on it? good review but leaves a few questions
The price is genuinely confusing to me, I might be completely underestimating it but it just seems twice the price that it should be
Lee Is taking notes for Victory amps
Can you imagine Fender supporting this device for 10 years like Line 6 has done with Helix? I don't think so. They'll abandon this in a year or two. They should have just stuck with the Tone Master amps, which IMO served a niche market that doesn't really have any alternatives.
We should have had a Helix-2 five years ago. Patching a product for 10 years is really stretching it.
It's an outside broadcast from a Fender facility. But they should have brought their own lights 🙄
Interesting peace of gear, but much to expensive (in my opinion). What catches me most is the superb guitar-hanging-system in the back on the wall 😆.
Pete is amazing through anything he plays.
It does that, the footswitches rotate, and the scribble strips above them show the value, as does the image of the amp on the screen.
@@MuckingAboutWith Yeah - I commented before watching all the way through!
@@mikedr1549 We've all done it.. :)
Can not wait for this comparison video. Gotta be Fender vs Helix vs QC 👌🏻👌🏻
This is the intuitive interface that I’ve wanted but the $1700 price point is way too high for what most will pay for this. Maybe a smaller unit in the $700 range would be easier to stomach.
The headrush is just as intuitive, substantially cheaper, and has a lot more options.
Love it.
Looks an amazing product 😀....Do Andertons own Fender now too?
All looks great, was wondering about wireless as my Line 6 Spider V 120 MKII has it built in?
Tube amps treble bass (mids) done!! best tones there are!!
Lots of comments on the high price - but it's only $100 more than a Deluxe Reverb and they sell a ton of those.
