This video wasn't all the song. Need to watch the other one Are You Lonesome Tonight to hear all of it. Not all verses wasn't sung in this one. Please do other one. You will like it better.
He certainly was into self depreciation as a form of humor and as a way to communicate to the audience that he was one of them, not some arrogant snob of a superstar.
You're right about his charisma ... OFF THE CHARTS. No dancing, no fireworks, just Elvis, singing, and you're enthralled. He's definitely the GOAT. I always enjoy your reactions, and I've viewed many.
Elvis could get away with anything on stage, he just always had the crowd in the palm of his hand no matter what he did. I think his realness was a huge part of his draw. What you saw was the real deal. He was one of a kind for sure.
Sheila I have been told that by the people I know that see him in concert. that seems that he could be more gorgeous than his movies or picture s MISSISSIPPI ELVIS JUNKIE LB
He was so loving and humble.. That’s why he’s as if he’s still here with us. He never forgot where he came from.. poor, truly the American dream came true for him.. He will always be loved and never forgotten..
The song that made me an Elvis. Every Elvis fan has that moment where they start paying attention and once his voice is heard, you’re an Elvis fan for life!
Elvis Presley was one cool dude! Everything about him was perfect. You should check out a video of him laughing uncontrollably while performing Are You Lonesome Tonight. Even his laugh is absolutely cool lol. The man was just amazing.
Elvis chose not to do the speaking part here! He must have been tired of saying it,because, as you saw, he started laughing in the middle of the first sentence & then returned to the song! Since you never heard this song before I will provide the spoken part that is in the original recording, (which you really ought to listen to because it shows what a great actor Elvis was & his deep spoken voice is magnificent!) It went like this; "I wonder if you are lonesome tonight!,Someone once said the world is a stage & each must play a part. Act 1 was when we met ! I fell in love with you as my sweetheart! You read your lines so cleverly & never missed a cue !,Then came Act2; You seemed to change. You acted strange ! Why I 've never known ! Honey, you lied when you said you loved me & I had no cause to doubt you! But I 'd rather go on hearing your lies than to go on living without you! Now the stage is bare & I am standing there with emptiness all around & if you won't come back to me, then they can bring the curtain down!" (In case you are wondering, yes I do have a life!! It has however , been enriched with the music of Elvis Aaron Presley! I am just a fan but know how to appreciate quality when I see it! This is why I share these verses with you) You are absolutely right , he was an absolute professional ! He never allowed little distractions to interrupt his performances! He remained relaxed & loved what he was doing at every moment! His words came right from his soul! He never took himself too seriously ( curled lip.comment) Yet ,he delivered his lyrics with musical love! "Are you Lonesome Tonight " is one of his many masterpieces! Check out the original, vintage version,! It will blow you away as well! Thanks again for sharing our love for our dear friend! Perfect reaction, as usual!
Francine Lima the spoken part is amazing on the original studio recording, but hard to capture that kind of dramatic reading live. From the intro here, you can tell he thought that part was too melodramatic for this performance.
You go Francine you said it all nothing left to say MISSISSIPPI ELVIS JUNKIE LB I never seem him sing on stage with the verbal part except for the laughing one but he still DON'T do all the verbal part. Maybe the verbal part had a special meaning to him. That's from Shakespeare THOSE words a quotation
1983 my little 5 yr old self was taking a walk around the park holding my mommas hand. There on the ground was a collectors card with a picture of a young Elvis on it. I declare to my mom that he’s going to be my boyfriend. My mom tells me that it would be kind of hard since he’s not alive anymore. I tell her I don’t care he’s still my boyfriend. Yup, Elvis was my first love and I know I’m not alone with that statement. 😂🤣
When I was a little girl in the 1970s I was in love with Elvis Presley and wanted to marry him. I collected anything I could get my hands on about him, 8-Track tape, vinyl records, magazines etc. Then I saw on T.V. that he had died and I watched coverage of his funeral. I was devastated, crying.
Elvis was the first cassette i ever bought when i was ten in 93. I listened to it on a small clock radio, wore it out. His voice is so nostalgic to me. Reminds me of simpler times when loved ones were still around. What a talent and inspiration, definitely influenced my singing style!
Elvis’ voice is ONE OF A KIND that is instantly recognizable by almost every person!! Elvis never goes out of style!! He will never be replicated. Simply a gift from God🙏🏼🕺🏻
Listen to the original recording. It is great. This was also great, but in the context of a media comeback. His songful delivery was astounding in the recordings. In live performances he tended to laugh and mix things up. Part of his charm. But to really appreciate Elvis listen to studio recordings.
The coolest guy ever walked this earth😂🤣amazzzinggg... another number 1 in 1960 for six weeks ... there is a awesome laughing version of this in concert ... a man in the audience takes his wig of and elvis is cut up ... very funny his laugh is contagious ... love it your fab Jamel too 😂🤣x
When I watch and listen to Elvis Presley's performance of this song, I just start to cry. The performance is so beautiful, I get really emotional when I see and hear him sing so sweetly.
I love that black leather suit. I stared at that for quite a bit when I was a Graceland. It was like it held some magical power. As I drifted through his outfits I kept going back to that one. Love the 68 special. I was 5 and when he came on I decided that was my husband. We all know when a 5 yr old falls in love it's deep and it's real.
I remember begging my mom to let me stay up and watch this. They had so much fun on that stage that night. Laughing and goofing around. All around the stage were girls. I was at home crying and saying “ I Love You Elvis”...haha. I will always love him, he was so GOOD LOOKING. Great Reaction...yours always are. Thank you
He seems to be able to laugh at himself. That quality is irresistible. I really, really enjoy seeing him relaxed and playing with his friends/musicians. Oh, to be a fly on the wall when he cuts up amongst family and friends.
More powerful and talented without one once of effort. It’s like he’s just talking yet he knows he’s on TV but it doesn’t matter he remains himself like as if he was just playing his guitar and singing on his couch at Garacland. Unreal! He literally had it all!
Most people know Elvis had a twin "Jesse Garon" who was still born. His mom told him that's why he had such good rhythm, because he had a "backbeat" in the womb:)
When Elvis blew into his jacket like that...he was wearing a leather jacket and leather pants. He was burning up. He even commented several times in the sit down shows of the '68 comeback special...he'd say "Boy this leather suit is hot, I ain't kiddin'"
Great videos,, here is some you might like to watch; Elvis concert 25yrs after he died.(25th Anniversary Concert.) and also Funny Moments with Elvis.. NBC-tv Special 1968) had me laughing. ❤️👍👍👌
Elvis' talent, looks and charisma were off the charts....such a unique performer (one of the best, if not the best). Like your reactions my friend. All the best!
Love your reaction to this and your laughter...it made me laugh..again! It’s called tuning into Elvis and his enigma and you have tuned in and read the signals loud and clear! Thanks Jamel and long live the King! 👑
My favorite is Elvis doing "Crawfish" at the opening scene of the movie "King Creole". The Stan Campbell version of "Crawfish" is great, but as always, Elvis is the King.
The 1968 Comeback Special. I still need to find that whole thing and buy it some day. My Grandma is his Biggest fan i know, she got me into Elvis from a very very young age (like 5ish) and i got her a 68 comeback special collector's doll still in the box on her 75th b-day. That man was Amazing.
Elvis lives in you Jamel - maybe you're the reincarnation of the great man! You have such an amazing voice yourself - great moves - love the shoulders going! Love from Australia!
Jamel, lately I've been checking out a lot of Elvis First listens, because there is very little new unheard Elvis material out there...for me anyway. I am so intrigued by people that really don't know the catalogue of Elvis....most people concentrate on the 50's, but his 70's catalogue, to me, is by far and away the best period of Elvis' career. Vocally and technically, the 70's define what Elvis is and what he wanted to sing...after all he did proclaim during the '68 Comeback, that he would never do another song he didn't believe in. So, if you want to know the real Elvis, at least the music HE wanted to do...focus from '68 onward. Anyway, back to your channel, you are by far, the most entertaining, articulate and enthusiastic reviewer I've encountered yet!! Keep up the great work!! Suggestions, It's Over from '73 Aloha, I Can't Stop Loving You from "That's The Way It Is" and personally , my wedding song to my beautiful wife Rachel, "I Just Can't Help Believin'" from "That's the Way It Is" 1970. Thank You!!...and keep on discovering the legendary magic and talents of Elvis Presley!
This was Elvis’ televised “Comeback Special” in 1968. Check out the whole performance. I love the acoustic jam session with his band and cracking jokes. And the black leather suit...oh baby. Beautiful voice and man.
As a teen I went through a stage of watching every Elvis movie and documentary on him I could find 😍😍 He was an extraordinarily talented man with a big heart for others!
As far as I know, this was the only song that Colonel Parker had asked Elvis to do. Parker's wife had always loved the song. Al Jolson and Gene Austin, the first act he managed. In the original recording by Elvis he asked that all lights in the studio be turned off. He did this for some other studio songs as well. He just wanted the right feel or mood for the occasion.
Please react to his “laughing version” of Are You Lonesome Tonight! I think you’d get a real kick out of it. Elvis changed up the lyrics and an audience member’s reaction made him lose it for the rest of the song😂
Is that the version where instead of singing "do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there", he sang "do you gaze at your bald spot and wish you had hair"? He laughed his ass off the rest of the song. It's hilarious. 😆
Lisa Rush thats the one! I think he sometimes did it as a running gag, but apparently in that version, he noticed a bald man in the front row and lost it for the duration of the song😂
Jamal! That was Elvis taking a breather in the middle of holding a VERY LONG DRAWN OUT NOTE! Thats called singing!!!! You need to watch tht again. Watch him! That is what singing & performing looks like together, flowing & COOL!! You look up cool & you will see a picture of Elvis! A very humble man that never thoought he was better than anybody. Elvis Presley was the epitome of being a superstar *without the internet and cable/satellite TV*. Can you imagine what it would have been like with those in place during his peak?
Your Elvis stuff is off the chart. I saw him at 8 years old. His comments as he got older during a song were hilarious. Glad he has a place in your heart .
I'm from Hawaii and it was Elvis Presley who did a concert here that was televised world wide it was a early version of pay preview the concerts profits went to help build the THE ARIZONA MEMORIAL in Pearl Harbor. The concert was ALOHA FRIM Elvis
You see his charisma in the live show, but please listen to the studio version also. He left some of the song out where he speaks a very emotional part... this was my favorite Elvis song.
Jamel I just Love you, you bring so much joy to the world through every piece of amazing music you listen too. You are teaching so many people how to listen to music with their hearts. Thank you dear friend. Thank you

Talent and he never had a singing lesson just natural👑
I'm from Hawaii and it was Elvis Presley who did a concert here that was televised world wide it was a early version of pay preview the concerts profits went to help build the THE ARIZONA MEMORIAL in Pearl Harbor. The concert was ALOHA FRIM Elvis

Funny observations! Had me
Laughing!! The original record went #1 on the charts in 1960’n
Thank you
