It's amazing how soft his voice can get, just above a whisper, and still keep that perfect vibrato. He makes it seem effortless, and with a voice like that, I'm sure it is. No one can ever match it. Timeless. Perfection.
You are on point. He, Elvis, is one in a billion. He is the only singer that can maintain the soft and high tones effortlessly on live shows. He was a brilliant artist.
That day he died in 1977, I walked out on a dark Hudson River pier in New York City. On the very end a couple sat with a transistor and suddenly: "Are you lonesome tonight, Do you miss me tonight". A warm night, the water, the sad feeling, the song. I've never forgotten any of it.

Kevin Haley Elvis Presley was driving around once and saw some woman who was struggling bringing home some groceries. He stopped and asked her if he could give her a lift to wherever she had to go. She accepted because "the man seemed so nice." She was older than him and wasn't into pop music so she didn't know who he was. She thanked him ever so much and they conversed. She told him it was really helpful because her old car finally had it and she was without a car because she does not have so much cash to buy a used car. He let her off in front of her small house and she thanked him profusely and told him it's nice that someone cares these days and that it's rare. About 2 hours later a salesman from a dealership knocked on her door and told her that a man, wishing to remain anonymous, bought and paid for a new car for her and all she has to do is come to the dealership either with him or take a taxi if she so wished that would be paid for, fill out her name on the registration and the car's hers. Her daughter told her it was probably Elvis Presley and the mother confirmed it when she was shown a picture of him.
I saw Elvis' first live concert in Honolulu in 1957 and he was amazing! Yes, I'm getting up in age, 79 years old. I still know all the words to many of his hit songs.

He most certainly did. When he talked to fans he would ask them what they liked best about his performance and he was always concerned about the sounds and how he sounded and the instruments... I grew up listening to The King because of my parents. I was born in Toronto Canada and my family was moving to Los Angeles. My dad promised to take me to Vegas to see him in concert. We were to move in September 1977 and The King died in August. I remember the day like yesterday. It was raining in Toronto that night and my dad took me to see Star Wars. When we returned home we learned of the terrible news. I never got to see Elvis and that has always left a hole in my heart. I remember the day like yesterday and to this day I am saddened when I think about it. I have been to Graceland in my 50's and will never get tired of returning to pay my respect to the King!
I wish that he was still here. There will never be anyone else to replace Elvis. He was the greatest and he always will be.You couldn't help but love him and his music.it was absolutely amazing and wonderful 👍😊
As someone who recently took a tour of RCA studio B (where Elvis recorded this and most of his songs) it’s so weird to think I was in the very same room he was and to know that he recorded this song in the dark AND in one take makes the song so much sadder but so much more peaceful at the same time
Just did the tour myself and when she turned the lights off. I felt the presence of Elvis and the musicians in that building. It was such a surreal feeling and hard to describe. But hearing this song brings me back to it .
My favourite one of Elvis songs since i was a child. His smooth voice hits straight into my heart. He is angelic from every aspect. So perfect that it hurts 💕 R.I.P. my sweet Elvis. Your music will always be the soundtrack of my life 👑👑👑
Sometimes you just play this song for the 3rd in the early morning hours and just sit there because it’s impossible to cry anymore tears. You just feel numb as you sing along to Elvis’s monologue. “Now the stage is bare and I’m standing there with emptiness all around”
I have loved Elvis for 66 years. I saw him 5 times in person from 1956 until shortly before his death in 1977, and the last time was just as exciting as the first time. Long live the King!
I wish i could have seen The King in person. i was born in Toronto Canada and was 9 years old the year he died. My family moved to Los Angeles in September (the month Elvis died) and promised to take me to Vegas to see Elvis. Never happened and to this day left a void of sadness in my heart. I have since been to Graceland in my 50's and want to go again. I am always saddened when reminded of his death but still enjoy his music and deep inside me feel his music lives on.
I am always saddened when i think of his death. He probably would not have been alive today but wish i could have enjoyed his life longer. He was inspirational and special!!@@nitasheehan2704
After 60 years of hearing “LONESOME” , it still remains one of Elvis Presley’s most enduring love songs, especially with the spoken piece in the middle. 5 STARS! Kenneth A Huang 10/10/22.
My mom and dad loved Elvis Presley's songs... I have both loving parents with fond of music like Elvis Presley 's Can't help Falling in love with you,Love Me Tender, Are You Lonesome Tonight,Jailhouse Rock.etc...
I just took the RCA Studio B tour in Nashville, and turns out this song has a couple of really cool stories behind it. Elvis did just perfect in one take. Evidently, Bill Porter Scotch-taped an infinitesimal backing vocal lyric correction into this otherwise perfect take and saved the extra studio time. Then, the click you hear at 3:02 is Elvis bonking his head on the vocal mic because (at his own request) they were recording the song in complete darkness without the fluorescent lighting which was killing his vibe 😅. The sound engineer was on top of it and had muted Elvis's mic just in time or that might've been another more difficult blemish (feedback on the sensitive vocal mics)--instead it just gets picked up by the other mics further away, so no problem!!!
It's amazing how soft his voice can get, just above a whisper, and still keep that perfect vibrato. He makes it seem effortless, and with a voice like that, I'm sure it is. No one can ever match it. Timeless. Perfection.
That's the reason I love this song..it's definitely a whisper
If angels sings for real, this should be how their voice sound....love you Elvis
No doubt!!!!
Yesudas, an Indian singer.. Another Legend.. sings every lows and highs with perfection and same tone maintained..less popular in another countries

[Verse 1]
Are you lonesome tonight?
Do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray
To a bright sunny day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
[Verse 2]
Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain
Shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?
Spoken:
I wonder if you're lonesome tonight
You know someone said that the world's a stage
And each of us must play a part
Fate had me playing in love with you as my sweetheart
Act one was where we met
I loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two, you seemed to changed, you acted strange
And why I've never know
Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you
But I'd rather go on hearing your lies
Than to go on living without you
Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you won't come back to me
Then they can bring the curtain down
[Outro]
Is your heart filled with pain
Shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?

@@jasminnemcdonald94A sucks to be you!!! You are probably not a real music fan, and not an admirer of the 50's sound. Sorry
The world's a stage, and each must play a part.
That's amazingly true.
Thats The Man Word .Like Elvis on His Memorable And Unforgettable Song AYLT. Are You Lonesome Tonight Acro name
As you like it...
Love this saying ❤
William Shakespeare, "As You Like it"
Listen to this you can hear there was really no hype around Elvis being the king at all he was simply the greatest !!!
Exquisite. The searing pinnacle of a man with talent: with the pipes of the angels - and he knew his "gift" was singing - and it was divine.
Elvis had such a powerful and beautiful voice, he is truly missed.
I got to see Elvis when I was 29. He was 39 then. Wow, what a performance. It was great!
His widow must be listening to this tonight. Very sad.
This song is so spectacular, the melody is so charming, this song is simply so sublime, so perfect. Thank you Elvis Presley
He was a miracle. He could thing everything. Doesn`t matter what, rock `n roll , or gospel, you will like it.
My dad didn't like elvis for rock n roll but loves elvis for gospel so this just proves your right
Elvis Presley was the voice. Greatest ever. Listening in 2020.
Probably my favorite Elvis song.
Elvis hai accompagnato i più bei tempi della mia giovinezza mi piace riascoltare tutte le tue canzoni specialmente ...ti senti sola stasera!
The way his voice builds on the line
"shall I come back again?"
damn its powerful, gets me every time.
What a voice unmatched, so beautiful
There's nobody past or present who can hold a candle to this iconic artist.
Nobody.
NOBODY!!!
GREAT SONG AND THE KING DESERVE THIS SONG...
Elvis was one of a kind.
The sincerity in his voice...A true timeless classic
The spoken part of this song shows the mastery of the king. . .so natural, so heartfelt, so GREAT !
Elvis will always be "THE KING"

+Hugo Madrigal you're calling him naive when you can't even spell naive right
What an awesome song . Yesterday and great classic today. Are you lonesome tonight.
My favourite one of Elvis songs since i was a child. His smooth voice hits straight into my heart. He is angelic from every aspect. So perfect that it hurts 💕 R.I.P. my sweet Elvis. Your music will always be the soundtrack of my life 👑👑👑
I’m 84 now, still listening Elvis, when I sit on my hometrainer.
Sometimes you just play this song for the 3rd in the early morning hours and just sit there because it’s impossible to cry anymore tears. You just feel numb as you sing along to Elvis’s monologue. “Now the stage is bare and I’m standing there with emptiness all around”
Люблю Элвиса с юности.Сейчас мне 70 и я все еще влюблена в его божественный голос!
I felt that comment so much.
A masterpiece.
I always feel like crying when the king sings this............
Yes perfection and that is why he is the "king!!!
I have loved Elvis for 66 years. I saw him 5 times in person from 1956 until shortly before his death in 1977, and the last time was just as exciting as the first time. Long live the King!
Rock on darling 😘
@@gregamerson9172 I'm planning on it. Thanks.
@@tonygiourgas8201 I still enjoy his music, but with a tinge of sadness that he died so young.
The King.
I'm lonesome without you Elvis :'(
I'm elvis recreated
no u aren't
Kenzie yes
Im here for you Kenzie
How can you be lonesome without a guy that died years before you were born?
My mom and dad loved Elvis Presley's songs...
I have both loving parents with fond of music like Elvis Presley 's Can't help Falling in love with you,Love Me Tender, Are You Lonesome Tonight,Jailhouse Rock.etc...
My sister went to see Elvis in person in Murfreesboro Tennessee back many many years ago she was a teenager now she's 83 and still loves Elvis
Born in the 50's, have loved Elvis all my life, going to see new Movie this weekend! Can hardly wait!
I got to see him in person. What a great performance. This song reminds of my first love. You will always stay in my heart.
What a lovely man so handsome rest in peace my king ♥️
He was truly one of a kind.
Lovely song & my favourite singer.
Holy hell, what a voice!
Crying, eating a pop tart, and listening to Elvis
Average Sunday
Why are you crying, human?
Because a pop tart not testy 😂...@@aalok2423
After all these years it's great that they haven't removed someone hitting the mic at the end of the song
@billebobeatup5262 you're so correct. it's the little 'glitches ' that add a special meaning to the moment. Never to be forgotten.
"And if you won't come back to me, then they can bring the curtain down".....hits hard in the feels.
