I turned on TV and there it was, I cried like a baby. I was always a huge Elvis fan,, I regret having never seen him in person. I love your positive vibes my friend.

I was just a few days shy of turning 28 when my cousin called to tell me Elvis was dead. He knew how much I loved Elvis. I, too, couldn’t believe it. I cried more than after my divorce. I, also, regret never seeing him in person. I’m not religious, but if there’s a heaven, the angels are having a glorious time singing with Elvis!

😭😭😭Love him so much. Since I was seven and I am 51 today. It was actually his death believe it or not that made me a fan. Because my oldest sister was a huge Elvis fan and I was only seven. And we were very very close we still are. And I remember her lying on her bed just crying and crying and me snuggling up next to her. She had Elvis all over her walls and was listening to his music. So as I laid there listening to his music and looking at his posters and pictures I became a fan. As odd as that may sound. And at that time they ran Elvis specials for weeks on TV and I remember wanting to stay up late and watch Elvis. And my mother would say Mary you have to go to bed. And I would literally cry and say no Mom I want to watch Elvis.❤️

I was at Graceland two weeks prior to Elvis's death. Coming home from a vacation in Texas, dad brought us back thru Memphis specifically to see Graceland. We took an abbreviated tour. His uncle was driving the golf cart and told us Elvis was there was the reason for the shortened tour. He also told us that Elvis was sick. We didn't think much about it, until the news broke. Our house was literally in mourning. For days we were glued to every news story we could watch. We played Elvis music constantly and it was like a beloved member of the family had passed. Elvis passed about three months after my grandmother, I was fourteen, some things just stick with us forever.

My God, I`ve said it before, and I`ll say it again "You are such a wonderful human being", and I wish you would be a part of my lovely family.
I was 12 when my mom came into my room with tears in her eyes, and she told me the awful news. I felt as if I had lost a brother. I remember that day as if it was yesterday. I felt as if someone tore me apart. I was mourning for a very long time and sometimes when I`m listening to his music, I still feel an enormous loss and deep sorrow. Elvis made this world a better place because he stood for so many, many good things, and we, his fans, don`t just love his music. He came here to touch people and to teach us by sharing with us all the wonderful things he had done, and all the negative things he had gone through.
He was the first to go on such a path of incomparable fame. Those who came after him could and still can learn from his example. In order to remind others what fame could or should not do to them, he had to end in such a tragic way, and he had to die young.
There are no coincidences. God doesn`t make mistakes. Everything happens for a reason. Everything!
Thank you and God bless You and all your dear ones❤
    Friendly greetings from Slovenia.

The day Elvis died was was a horrible day. My sister called and told me, I guess I cried because I don't remember anything after she called me. This was Memphis in front of Graceland. It was the fans online the street, Estimates I've heard were form 60,000 upwards. It hurt my heart for him to die. I have been a fan since I was 11 in 1956, saw him 5 times. Elvis was a gift from God.

Jamel... Elvis’ death was one of the moments in our lives that would fall into the “where were you when....” (insert event in the gap), where if you asked someone where they were or what they were doing when an earth shattering event took place, like:
    1) - The moon landing in ‘69
    2) - The death of Princess Diana
    3) - 9/11
    4) - The Rodney King incident
....They could answer in the blink of an eye. When Elvis passed away, I was just 9 years old & my parents were huge Elvis fans & my mother especially was devastated. I saw her in tears & can remember holding her as she cried for what seemed like a lifetime. It affected me too & no matter what... NO ONE will take his place as the King of Rock & Roll ✊️😔👑. For some time afterwards, many would’ve felt that on the day Elvis died.... Music died as well 🎼🕊🕊🕊🎼

I lived in Memphis when Elvis died. I was 27 years old and it was so hot and humid. My husband had to work in this area of Memphis that whole week and he told me every day when he came home from work that he had never seen anything like it. There were people everywhere. He was originally buried at Forest Hills Cemetery which was approximate 3 miles from Graceland and it took them over an hour to get to the cemetery because of the number of people. They moved him to the Garden in Graceland because of the fact that they knew that there would be so many people at the cemetery all of the time.

I won a radio show contest and the prize was a day with Elvis but our friendship lasted past that one day in time. All the memories of my friend are tucked safe in my heart forever. dancing and singing breaks my heart because i know he is not here anymore my mind understands but my heart never will, i saw him a few weeks before he passed we had a short conversation which i will never share again because people are so nasty and comment hurtful heart breaking things they do not know me but they still can't keep their mouths closed about things they know nothing about. I walk past Graceland everyday. All i remember of this day was my friend was gone forever.. The sight of him in that damn casket was more than i could stand. love From Memphis Tn. Jamel.

I wasn't in Memphis but I was living in Virginia. I came home from school and pulled into the gas station (b4 self serve) and the attendant came out wiping his eyes with a dirty old rag. All I could get on the radio was Elvis. Couldn't figure it out. I asked the man if was all right and he said, I can still see him "Don't you know the King is dead?" People closed their businesses, didn't go to work, headed for Memphis. He was theirs, the poor southern boy who made good. I still feel so hard for those people. It just felt surreal to me. But the grief was very, very real.

Aug 16th 1977, There were more flowers sold on that day than any other day in history since records have been kept. I wasn't born until 2 years after this but I still cry every time I see that footage. Idk what it is but I've been a fan since a baby and it really feels like losing a family member every time I see it.

Wow, the tears. My mom just passed away in April and she was the biggest Elvis fan. If never heard this one before though. I grew up listening to him, many times falling asleep to him singing in my record player. In fact, I made it to his last concert in Fort Wayne Indiana (his actual last concert every was in Indy) with an obstructed view... my mom was 7 months pregnant. I always say that it was there that my infinite love of music was engraved into my dna.

My mom crumpled to the floor when she heard over the phone that Elvis had died.😥
I was 8 years old and I remember coverage of Elvis was wall to wall for DAYS!
Elvis was my mom's first real kiss.💋 It was at a record store after a concert in 1956 and Elvis was signing autographs. Story goes, he recognized my mother from the front row of the concert and kissed her very passionately. she was 16 years old.
Needless to say she always held Elvis close to her heart and us children grew up loving him too!
Great talent, great looking, even better human!

I've just watched Elvis's funeral to the gospel song FARTHER ALONG.
All the policemen were saluting as he passed by, and this only happens when one of their own or a very important person dies, ie the president.
It just shows how this man was respected....

Having made a dream come true by visiting Graceland (from England), in 2013, as a massive Elvis fan, it was an honour and a privilege to be at the home of The King. (I stayed at Days Inn Memphis at Graceland which is literally across the road from Graceland, so I couldn't any closer unless I was sleeping on the steps of his home). To lean on the far end of the wall at Graceland, thereby literally recreating a dream I had about 6 weeks earlier where I dreamt I was talking to Elvis, amazing. In reality to be at Graceland was one of the greatest moments of my life, I'd love to do it again. His music will live forever and he'll always be 2nd to none. He could sing any style and in my viewed his version was always better than the original.
Others have tried to copy him but never matched him, never bettered. Seeing how he was destroying himself, I'm sure makes all his fans wish they could go back in time and reach out to him, to tell him how much he was loved, that he wasn't alone.
    Love you Elvis👑

I was twenty. I was pregnant with my first child, home, and listening to Elvis on the stereo. My phone started ringing from family and friends to tell me Elvis passed. Call after call. (I wasn't into TV and didn't know.) They were worried I would become emotional. Well, they were right. I tried to send flowers, but, in Tennessee, every flower had already been purchased for Elvis. The entire state was emptied of flowers. My husband came home from work and found me crying. He wanted me to go to the hospital. I was going to be fine, but, Elvis was gone.

Used to be such respect shown for the dead, if there was traffic they would stop and let the funeral procession go through, workmen would stop at the side of the road and take their hats off, not anymore.Very sad. I remember exactly where I was when we found out he passed. My mom was in the kitchen, my brother and I were laying on the floor watching The Beverly Hill Billy's after school and the news of his passing flashed across the screen. My mother was born in 1926, dirt floor poor. She loved Elvis. We loved Elvis. It was very emotional. We knew both my mom and Elvis had humble beginnings and understood her support of him. She was a southern Baptist Sunday school teacher. Elvis sang gospel, she embraced him and had a special place in her heart for him.

Tim Carr mentioned in an earlier comment that you remember where you were when you heard Elvis Died as well as JFK..I remember both. I was 5 with JFK, but my parents reaction has stuck with me to this day and I was 19 working at Sears and my boss came in and told me he just heard it on the news that Elvis had died.... 12 hours later and it was in the middle of the night I was among that crowd...I lived 6 hours away up 78 through Mississippi through Tupelo....Hot..100% humidity, upper 90s in the day.People fainting, getting heat stroke..2 women killed by a maniac driving into the crowd. There were so many people..ALL the police, who mostly knew him standing at attention and saluting him, crying..That made me cry.....The most flowers sold in one day in history and still stands as the record.........Thanks for the respect you give this man....Truly a gift from God.

I fell in love with Elvis when I was 6 years old, the first time I heard his voice and saw his picture on the old record album my much older sister had given me. I felt a connection to him that I cannot explain. Listening to Elvis sing and watching his movies was the only bright spot in an otherwise very sad childhood. Now I have always had a horrible memory (due to a lot of trauma as a child) but I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news that Elvis had died. I was 16 and was at work, having finished working and waiting for my best friend to finish so we could walk home together. A lady who worked there had driven down the driveway to the back door (I was standing at the top of the driveway). She got out of her car and yelled something up to me but I didn't hear her at first. With a big smile on her face and laughter in her voice (she knew I loved Elvis) she told me Elvis was dead like it was hilarious. The news was like a stab in the heart and her laughter like a slap on the face. (I never liked her after that.) I started crying uncontrollably and went and hid next to a wall where no one could see me. In my family you weren't allowed to show most emotions, especially "weak" emotions. I had been a highly sensitive child but my mother despised weakness and crying would only invite anger and aggression from her and my brother, so I had to learn at a very early age to hide and suppress my emotions. I hadn't cried for many years but that day I could not stop crying... it was like someone turned on a faucet full blast and I couldn't turn it off. My friend found me there and was beside himself because he'd never seen me cry and since I was crying so hard I couldn't speak, he didn't know what had happened but knew it had to be bad for me to cry. I don't know how long it took but I was finally able to get the words out that Elvis had died. I don't remember anything after that or how many days I continued to cry. At some point I stuffed it down like I stuffed down all my sadness and pain and moved on.
At least I got to see Elvis in concert once before he died. It was in January, 1977, just 8 months before his death. He didn't look like himself at all, but he still had "it" and you couldn't take your eyes off of him through the whole concert. I almost missed seeing him in that concert because of my dad (but that's a whole different story). I don't think I would have ever forgiven him (at least until I got older and learned how necessary forgiveness is) if I hadn't gotten to see Elvis at least once before he died. The only happiness I had as a child was when I was listening to or watching Elvis and his death hit me hard.

From a musical perspective, Elvis led a new generation in the evolution of pop culture. Although I would not credit him as the founder per se of this movement, influences before and alongside him in the music industry helped shape the path in the years to come. Whether one believes Presley was overrated or not, he gained an immense following of listeners from around the globe and continues to remain a popular icon in music. That to me says a lot about a musician. It is a shame he died at such a young age, which was 42 years old in 1977. But he was well in decline before he met that fate. Relying on drugs and living an unhealthy lifestyle took their toll on Elvis, not to mention that he experienced later on in his life depression and loneliness. When one would think he was on top of the world with anything easily available at his reach, due to the immense fame he accumulated in a short period of time, it would be hard to imagine someone like Elvis would be unhappy. But the truth is that Elvis, like anyone else, was a genuine human. He was not perfect and fought his internal demons until the day he passed on, even though he may have not expressed the struggles externally to the public eye. Had he sought professional help to rehabilitate himself, I wonder what direction Elvis' career would have taken him beyond 1977 had he not died. We will never know that alternate reality, but all we have is his legacy to remember by that continues to influence musicians of today's era.

Word spread by network News & word of mouth. People were sobbing as walking thru the fair. Elvis music& t-shirts were everywhere. People would stop to listen to radio updates. Asking for any word. It felt like losing family to so many people..myself included. Thank God for still having his music, movies & all the memories.
