    When NBC switched over to the paper cut outs for their Meet the Press logo, I thought of you. Thanks for answering my question before I asked.

    Thanks Rick,
    I do a lot of torn paper effects and never thought of lumping them all together to add the blurred shadow. The new layers set up was being a pain in the wottsit so this will eliminate a lot of the rows of details. Cheers my man!

    Wow, this cutout effect is amazing! Thank you Iron Echo. Now, I was having a lot of trouble with the cutout effect not working. Sometimes I could get the line to change in color or transparency, but that was it. After quite a bit of googling I realized that I can't have the object set to no fill- it has to have an arbitrary fill in order for the effect to work. ...Thanks again!

    Do you have a video where you can fade an images edges into the background color?

    • @IronEchoDesign
      @IronEchoDesign  Рік тому +2

      Great question! I don’t have a video that specifically shows how to do that yet. If I can incorporate it into a project, I’ll see if I can include it. My first thought would be to mask the image. You can create a shape to lay over your image and set up a gradient going from white to black so the edges fade away when mask is applied. Anything that is white in the masking shape will be full opacity. The closer to black in the gradient the more transparent the image will be.

    Great video as usual. I have done paper cut stuff in InkScape a few times, and it’s great fun. Thanks for refreshing my memory about the clipping inside objects function in this application.
    Only thing I would say though, having worked with Affinity Designer a lot recently is that InkScape’s workflow is still a bit destructive. In AD I can hold the Alt key when subtracting/union etc. which will create a compound shape allowing me to move the object (in this case, the cut-out) and reposition it, before committing to the final output. Maybe the InkScape developers will come up with something similar in the future.
    I still love both apps though, and the path effects in InkScape are just second to none! Something Affinity doesn’t (and imo shouldn’t) have. 😊

      Thanks so much! Great insight too. Less destructive and more intuitive would be a nice improvement.

    Hi Rick, I am a beginner to Inkscape. I love how you explain everything, However, with very video that I work along with, there is always something that you use and I don't have. Is it because I am using a MacBook Pro? All videos seem to be done on a Windows computer. I have one laptop that has Catalina operating system and one that has Monterey. It is very frustrating not to be able to get to the end of a video. If you know of a reason why this is happening, I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Thank you in anticipation. Brenda

      Thanks Brenda! I’ll try to help and find out if there is a compatibility issue with your Macs. Is there an example you can share where something stops working? Thanks

      Okay, got it. I'll try to pick something that would make a good project. Do you envision the "distressed" look? I'll add that too if so.

    Hello, maybe you can tell me why the shadows may not work, I do everything as said in this video, I go to the filters, everything is as said here, but nothing happens, everything remains unchanged, the watercolor filter also does not work, nothing does not blur, these effects are only noticeable when you export the image
