- I think we’re all agreed that Steam power is much more exciting than Diesel power - although, admittedly we may have a vested interest in promoting that opinion.
Romantic movies, for example, have never been the same since the passing of the steam locomotive.

steam locomotives are cool more interesting then diesel I would like to see one of them big boy's in person

I think a country or companies should keep a few steam engine incase of a national emergency. Emp can cause lots of damage. Ijs🤷♂️
all of the engines are mechanical the main reason for a battries is to start the engine which can be started manually if designed but some engine require a computer which i really dont have any idea about and the spark plugs will be powered by the engine its self after starting it
@@nopda4095 these modern trains have loads of electronics and computers. You dont mechanically achieve fuel economy without electronic controls......not possible. If could be happen we would still have carbs on cars....
@@nopda4095 and diesels do not use sparks plugs. You not knowing that totally dismissed your statement/viewpoint/ and argument.

@@cjjonez oh yeah and we werent talking about fuel economy at all if anything even a combustion engine without computer will have better efficiency than steam engine
While I like steamies, Steam locos are harder and more expensive to operate than diesels, require more care, EXTREMELY bad for the environment, and overall primitive as hell. Diesels on the other hand are easier to operate, require less care, more fuel-efficient, and very sophisticated. I also like horns better than whistles and I think the puffing and hissing doesn’t beat that nice, purring bass that diesels have. So I’m a bigger fan of Diesels.
what kind of diesels are those in the first clip, and what kind of prime mover do they have? Nothing quite like a side bar diesel. Yes the steam is a lot more romantic and engenders a lot more emotion and feeling. It does breathe and have an animalistic character to it. Is that a 3 cylinder steam locomotive? It sounds so by the exhaust pulses relative to the rotation of the wheels and rod movement. Looking at the video, you can see the center cylinder rod guide in the middle of the front porch at 4:18. Sounds so different than the usual 2 cylinder locomotives. Very powerful too.
From 1954, the first locomotives of the 2400 series were put into service at the Dutch State Railways. The locomotives mainly hauled freight trains and were also used in the shunting service. However, they also hauled passenger trains.

Time to bring steam back, Burn natural gas instead of coal. Super clean at that point.
Why natural gas? Why not nuclear? It is the cleanest and most efficient power source developed so far.

Diesels just don't have the tork. Electric need batteries hence diesel which just as expensive. We need More steam/coal engines. Steam engine can out pull.
