Went on my first group ride yesterday and twice people thought I was on a 600 😅 other thing I like about the R3 as a first bike is it's so confidence inspiring in the corners and it's made me love taking it on twisty roads!
Yeah what's your point? You still can't keep up with my 600cc so you can talk the talk but can't walk the walk. So yeah why even bring this up to tell people you look the part?????
Excited to get one. I was immediately impressed by the ergonomics when I sat on the updated r3. A lot of people I attended track with have been psyched on theirs, and enjoy the speed these bikes are capable of in the turns.
I’ve owned my 2020 R3 for 3 years now. I bought it brand new and it has always been my favorite bike. I’ve owned a gsxr 600 and a Honda RC51 and even though those bikes were STUPID fast, the r3 is my absolute favorite and I would choose it any day out of the 3. From the buttery handling to the way you can shift through every gear without shitting your pants, that is why I’m still in love with my R3. Highly recommend this bike!
I don't even know why people are talking about how fast the bike can go, when majority of the time you won't even be doing those speeds. I own a 2019 R3 and I've done less than 10 top speed attempts because its honestly just silly if your mentality of buying a bike is supported on just its speed alone. I've done over 13,000 kms on the bike and I've kept up with 1000cc bikes on the Twisties. If you have never ridden a bike before, I strongly suggest staying away from 600cc bikes because YOU will be immature towards its power output. Stay on a 300-400cc bike for around a year or so. Until you can ride the bike's maximum potential, don't upgrade. And one last thing, I can see that majority of roads in the US are straight and I understand twisty roads can be far away, which makes small bikes boring. Just buy a 300, who cares what others say. Ride your own ride
I see you are a judgement person. About your question, maybe u should learn why some people love peak performance. I assume you like comfortable motorcycles, that's why you chose r3. When you have r3 and hear someone talking about speed. Your pride hurts cuz you know r3 is not the fastest bike between 300-450 cc (with similar price). When someone talks about how good r3 is at some point (not speed) that boosts your ego and wants to judge (silly) to someone that talks about speed on r3. There is feeling good when what you spend is worth the cost whenever you need or want. Why not switch to r15m if speed is not what you want?! R15m probably increases your chances to reach top speed, good features, good design. You can boost your ego with that bike. 😂
The r3 is more than capable on the highway. If you feel like it is not then you are not keeping the bike in the powerband. The powerband lies in the 7-10k rpm range. If you let it drop below that then yes it is going to feel sluggish if you try and give it acceleration without accommodating with a downshift. So if you struggle with not knowing what gear to be in without needing to actively be looking at what gear you are in then yes you will feel like it struggles on the highway. Otherwise if you learn to get a feel for it you will know as the bike will literally tell you when its slipping out the powerband and thats when you need to downshift. So no being in 4th gear at 4k rpm is not where this bike will be comfortable you are sacrificing so much torque that could be readily available if you keep your revs where they should be. And no keeping the bike in the high rpm range does not stress the engine at all that is how it is designed to run. The r3, r6 and r1 are all high revving engines and their powerbands reside very high in the rev range compared to any other sport bike. Every bike is different you need to learn where the powerband lies in whatever bike you are riding. I have 20k on the odo through 1.5 yrs of ownership, I weigh 165lbs and commute on the highway 35 miles one way and I stay going 80-95 mph for nearly 90% of the commute and reside around 8-9k rpm the whole way, so I still have plenty of torque available in 6th gear to reach 110 mph whenever i feel like it. Bike is totally fine
Yeah you are right. Only thing I noticed on my R3 is that at ~100mph /150kmph the R3 is at ~11k rpm which really sucks the gas. At those speeds you can get like only 100-150 kms distance before the gas tank goes empty... 😂
As someone who lives in Europe and has a r125. Even an r125 with a whopping 15hp it's enough to keep up with traffic. Cruises at 70-75 top out at 80-85, if anyone isn't convinced an R3 isn't enough for longer journeys and highways then you probably don't have enough experience to jump on a bigger bike in the first place.
I commuted via Ninja 250 for most of two years (barring bad weather), racking up about 10,000 miles quickly. The old Ninja 250 isn't especially fast, but could easily reach 100mph. It was also quicker than most cars on the streets from 0-60. It never, ever felt underpowered. They redesigned the Ninja 250 around 2009ish, and that redesigned bike was significantly slower. Although I personally have never ridden it, I suspect that I would find it underwhelming. I've also ridden the Yamaha R3, and I currently ride a CBR 250. The R3 has a fair chunk more power and torque than my old 250 had, and felt far more like a mid-sized bike (definitely not a full 600 supersport, but more like a generic 500-600 cc regular sportbikes) in performance. It was also incredibly comfortable to ride down gently winding roads, just so lithe and nimble. The CBR 250, on the other hand, definitely feels like it's somewhat lacking in torque and power. A 250 cc single should never have been made. Aside from the noticeable lack of power, though, the bike is lovely, once again a lightweight, comfortable bike to ride on winding mountain roads.
easily cruise at 70 is a bit of a lie... you're literally at like 8-9K rpms, not comfortable, but it gets the job done! I love my 125 though for ripping around on backroads and commuting (luckily no highway)

I personally own a 2020 R3 and an 2019 XT250 down here in the mountains of western NC where just about everywhere is curvy and hilly and I never really ever feel outgunned. Those 231CC mills are meant to be ridden pinned and kinda abused if we’re being honest. Past 7k RPM and the R3 turns into Mr. Hyde lol. Yes. It's underpowered. The other companies are making their beginner bikes in the 400cc range. Ninja/Z400, duke/rc390, vitpilen 401. Compared to those the r3 is laughably slower. Especially in the us market, people want something more powerful to be able to keep up on the highway. If they would just bump it up to an r4 with 400cc, it would easily be the best beginning super sport. Idk why they keep it at 300.
@@kuntachente6273 Depends on where you live and what "highway speeds" are, but where I live, people drive around 80mph on the highway. Yes the r3 technically can do it, but you're going to be at redline the whole time and will have 0 power to pass or even get out of someone's way.
@@Xwii610 If youre on the highway like 60% of the time or more its probably better to get a bigger bike just cause its stable and easier on the engine. My gw250 gets like 26 hp and can still take the highway though i usually hang far to the right at 70mph to not overstress the engine but she can get up to mid 90s if i ask her to.
Bro, where in NY. I'm in Wyoming County. Just bought the R3 this past October. Just barely put 600mi on it before storing it. I had a 2011 Cbr250r, and a 2007 R6. I haven't really been able to use the powerband yet (break - in) but I did notice it taking off right around 8500rpm. Only saw the shift light once.
Yeah I've nearly accidentally wheelied mine trying to pass a tractor and forgot to drop throttle and shift up. RPM hit about 11k when I pulled in the clutch and went from 80kph to 135 in half a second when I released the clutch.
I finally decided by a 2015. At 80 miles an hour on the freeway it's not near Red line. It's pushing roughly in the 8000 to 9000 range. Which is just under half of the RPM but honestly up there it just doesn't have much power. As far as in town it seems to be okay but the biggest problem that absolutely has is the massive amount of engine braking. So much so to the point it breaks the rear tire loose and starts to Skid if you fully let off the throttle. And that's even with better aftermarket tires.... I'm hoping to save up enough to do the Norton tune that supposedly gets rid of some of the engine braking problem. I could see a new writer easily crashing because of the rear tire braking free due to the engine braking and not knowing how to recover. As for anybody wondering why I chose the r3, I don't want a larger bike. It's not that I can't handle it I just want the lightest weight bike that I can be on and I need a seat height that is correct so that I can get both feet flat on the ground. Yes that's a necessity for me because I have physical limitations due to health. I've always owned Yamaha motorcycles. I mean technically I guess the two Hondas I ever had would count has owning something else but so minimal it doesn't really count in my mind. I probably own roughly a dozen Yamahas
Thanks for sharing! I can totally agree about the engine breaking. After I got my tune from bauce racing on the r3 the reduction in engine breaking definitely helped smoothen the ride. Current on a 2023 r7 on stock map and the engine breaking on that is still quite intense. When I let off the throttle I get surged forward and it’s quite uncomfortable. Ride safe!
Can a R3 (or any 300/400) keep up with normal traffic? Yes, easily. Is a R3 (or any 300/400) fun? Yes, at any skill level, its also cheaper to maintain than higher CC levels. Will a R3 (or any 300/400) feel fast if i'm a new rider? Yes, super fast. Will I outgrow a R3 (or any 300/400)? You will get use to the acceleration in a month or two. But mastering handling and braking will take years. Can a R3 (or any 300/400) keep up with 600cc+? If they are going all out than no, but rarely people are going all out on the street. On a curvy road you may even pass one if your skilled enough. Is it worth getting a R3 (or any 300/400) if im not knew to bikes? Depends, if you already know you love HP than no. But if having a lot of power is not important to you, then its worth getting because your getting 90% of the experience other sport bike riders are getting. And at a much less cost. (about half the cost.)
no it will do everything you need it to and then some just enough bike, and its look is impeccable. that was the selling point for me it is such a beautiful bike
Clicked on this video because I'm trying to get into bikes as well as looking into r3s and noticed you're in my neighborhood lmk if you wanna cruise once i get it
What I like about Yamaha is that their bikes punch about their weight. R3 series can compete with ninja 400, r6 was a monster that could hang out with 800s, r1 is basically a moto GP bike. Heck even r15 r125 are amazing because you can hang out with 200 to 250cc bikes on track.
Bikes get affected a lot by rider weight, especially the low HP ones. It is for that reason the vast majority of them are geared short, as in top speed way over their top HP rpm, to cater for heavier riders imo. For that reason, If you are a light rider, like below 80kgs, you can easily get away with lenghtening the gearing to reduce highway rpm on the R3.
hm. im thinking of going 46 tooth on the rear because i do mainly city riding. i can deal with a 10 mph top speed deduction, hell that might save me from getting a +100 mph ticket
When it comes to the r3 you better off buying a brand-new one I seen some used with 6,000 miles or better going as high as the prices of a brand new but I guess either way would be good because it's a great bike love the video 🔥🔥🔥💯
I’d have to agree, the prices are too similar I rather spend the extra on new. Also u never know how the bike was treated if used, esp r3 being a “beginner market” bike most riders prolly used it to learn on an potentially has a higher clutch wear
Been riding since 85' ....i have an rz350 for wheelie rips n craziness....i have his grandkid the r3 red in Canada...and kick the crap out of it. Love it...no rz tho!!!!
i totally agree with everything u said, i live in nyc too and its has enough poswer for local and highway riding. but still, i think and just gotta get a bigger bike but i love R3 and i will probally just keep it . and btw CAN I HAVE THE LINK TO UR MIRROR, my bike got into a hit and ran and now i have to buy some part to fix it.....
The R3 has noticeably more power (and performance) than other pint-sized bikes, like the old Ninja 250 and Ninja 300, and CBR 250 and CBR 300. If you upgrade to a bigger, faster bike, you're probably going to be disappointed with the speed increase going to a non-supersport midsized bike (Ninja 600, SFV-650, ETC), so I would suggest looking at the 750s or even liter-bikes.
I’ve talked to you about my new r3 and compared to what you are saying to my bike and also a buddies r3 he can easily ride at about 80 and even top out at 122 obviously my r3 is still in the break in period so I can’t go full out yet so I can’t speak for myself
yes for me. i have owned ninja 300 , 2019 cbr500r , first gen r3 and currently i’m owning currently gen r3 and husky 401. i do find it under power but i think it’s enough fast. it doesn’t have the surge that husky 401 delivers
Have you tried Mt03? I am hiving Mt03 and its nice but the wind at 120+ is an issue. I think R3 fairing could solve this. All aftermarket windscreens for Mt03 are shit :/
As an older rider returning to the street the r3 is a great bike. You only need your hair on fire for so many years then survival takes over and reason sets it. Really was looking at the rc390 but KTM is still plagued with niggling issues that seem simple but I have no desire to deal with changing this that and the other sensor, clamp, hose, impeller, thanks no
I’d say it’s pretty much the same as the r3 just more upright. I sat on it at the dealership and it feels nearly identical, all the components are the same too. I think the mt03 would be more comfortable as a cruiser, the r3 is a bit more of a sporty stance with higher windscreen so you’ll get better wind resistance on the r3. But it comes down to ur riding style
My opinion is the ninja 400 is a much better beginner bike. I don't have any problems keeping up with my friends ninja 650 on the highway. Top speed of 125, I don't have any highway pulling problems. My friend got stuck riding aside a semi, going full throttle cuz he couldn't pass him. I just zipped right on by. Other than that, handling on both bikes is very similiar
I’m from India and I love this bike and from two years they discontinued this bike and they are saying that next month August they will launch but I don’t know they will launch or not, but I wanna know Wat is the bike top speed in kmph
it has as a bit more power as a 125 while still being 70kg heavier for smaller roads its fine probably but the only sports bike ive owned was a ducati 750 and a mito 125 rest were enduro/supermoto and ive never been on bigger roads with them
A bit more power? From 15 hp to 42 hp is a way more than a bit, that's 180% more power. It's like you're saying an R3 is a bit more powerful than an R6.
For me the 300 was a big jump, especially when I first got it I felt like the r3 was overkill. I’m a fairly new rider even though I been riding for a bit over a year I barely rode my z125 and same goes for the r3. I also wanna go through each class of bike and feel the difference gradually as I eventually hope I settle at a 1000
@@RickyMoto I respect the patience taking your time learning to ride and not jumping straight to the biggest bikes but what I think you'll find is that a 1000 is just going to be unfun to ride in the public streets, especially in a place like new york. Anything past a 600 sport bike you really can't use the bikes power on the public roads unless you're willing to risk serious fines and losing your lisence going 150 mph on the highway
If anyone thinks its underpowered then they haven't put the throttle to the wall yet. I'm constantly surprised by how much power it actually has. Mind you I'm new to riding so maybe that's why. Its tame down in the low RPM's, but the power shows up once you are north of 8k rpm. I've hit 110kph in 1st gear at about 11500rpm. Its a good beginner bike. On the other hand if you are comparing it to an R1 then... yeah its underpowered.
The Kawasaki z400 will scare you if you full throttle, full throttle is a 28mm twist from zero, most people that ride the z400 never even 1/2 throttle, it too wicked.😮
I think that 390-400 cc range is perfect for people who want performance at an affordable rate. In India that money gets u a duke 390 which puts out 44 bhp.. which is quite fun to ride tbh. I have such fond memories of the duke 390.
I expected it to run the way it does. If anything when I first got the bike I was surprised at its power being more than what I expected. I thought it would be slower than it is

Oh thank god you got the carbon fiber! Really helps the power to weight ratio!
Great video.. Now I want one!
I’ve had 3 people on bigger bikes pull up by me at a stop light and thought it was an r1
Someone confused my Team Blue 2021 R3 for an R1
How did they confuse an R3 with an R1 lmfao
They dont know shit about bikes then lmao
Lol it happens, but most people that don’t ride that heard the names of these bikes just think they are all the same between the r3, r6, and r1

The R3 pullls bro and helps you learn how to handle real power
Yeah I've nearly accidentally wheelied mine trying to pass a tractor and forgot to drop throttle and shift up. RPM hit about 11k when I pulled in the clutch and went from 80kph to 135 in half a second when I released the clutch.
Highway speed is 75-80 mph. R3 tops out at 125 mph. What's the issue? I'm more worried about the wind pushing me around.since the bike is so light.
When I hit around 90mph I notice the bike starts to go side to side due to wind under that it’s pretty stable
Well said!
I like the mirrors a lot
no it will do everything you need it to and then some just enough bike, and its look is impeccable. that was the selling point for me it is such a beautiful bike
Would you be able to test ride a CFMOTO 450SS best looking bike by far. Everyone seems to love it
If I get a chance I would
Smaller rear sprocket help at all with rpm’s on highway ? Good video mate.
It should help increase top speed, but lose on acceleration
hm. im thinking of going 46 tooth on the rear because i do mainly city riding. i can deal with a 10 mph top speed deduction, hell that might save me from getting a +100 mph ticket
most texas highways are 65, but tolls are 75 and some 80 but very few
When it comes to the r3 you better off buying a brand-new one I seen some used with 6,000 miles or better going as high as the prices of a brand new but I guess either way would be good because it's a great bike love the video 🔥🔥🔥💯
I’d have to agree, the prices are too similar I rather spend the extra on new. Also u never know how the bike was treated if used, esp r3 being a “beginner market” bike most riders prolly used it to learn on an potentially has a higher clutch wear
I guess many haven't heard of the Navi. Never a boring ride and dirt cheap to fill up.
Shout out from philippines always supporting you brother 🇵🇭💜
Euro bikes are more on branding .. yamaha and japanese bikes are bang for the buck youre paying less for more quality instead of paying for brand name
Keep going 💪🏻💪🏻full support for you

Mine too before I sold it & bought a 2017 MTO3 & does the same speed.
0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds
i got a 2021 r3 and the most ive got it too is 192 and that was down a little hill, how did you get it so fast?
Me too, written off long story, replaced by a 2017 MT03 I like even better.
Try put 13t and 45t sprockets, you will be surprice and also R-ecu. Been riding it for 3yrs. Im from Philippines

i totally agree with everything u said, i live in nyc too and its has enough poswer for local and highway riding. but still, i think and just gotta get a bigger bike but i love R3 and i will probally just keep it . and btw CAN I HAVE THE LINK TO UR MIRROR, my bike got into a hit and ran and now i have to buy some part to fix it.....
"I live in NY so I lane split anyway" ya same dude I live on long Island why would I sit in traffic on my grom when I could just not
I’ve talked to you about my new r3 and compared to what you are saying to my bike and also a buddies r3 he can easily ride at about 80 and even top out at 122 obviously my r3 is still in the break in period so I can’t go full out yet so I can’t speak for myself
What bike are u gonna pick up next?
A bicycle
Where did you get the smoked windscreen?
Zero gravity
yes for me. i have owned ninja 300 , 2019 cbr500r , first gen r3 and currently i’m owning currently gen r3 and husky 401. i do find it under power but i think it’s enough fast. it doesn’t have the surge that husky 401 delivers

I am hiving Mt03 and its nice but the wind at 120+ is an issue. I think R3 fairing could solve this. All aftermarket windscreens for Mt03 are shit :/
In tuck position r3 is very stable 120mph and wind is not noticeable. So a windscreen is highly recommended

I’m at the point to purchase for my daughter seems awesome man
As an older rider returning to the street the r3 is a great bike. You only need your hair on fire for so many years then survival takes over and reason sets it. Really was looking at the rc390 but KTM is still plagued with niggling issues that seem simple but I have no desire to deal with changing this that and the other sensor, clamp, hose, impeller, thanks no
This is most likely going to be my first motorcycle. The RC390 looks so good, but like you said I can't deal with the issues.
i wana know your opinion about the mt 03
I’d say it’s pretty much the same as the r3 just more upright. I sat on it at the dealership and it feels nearly identical, all the components are the same too. I think the mt03 would be more comfortable as a cruiser, the r3 is a bit more of a sporty stance with higher windscreen so you’ll get better wind resistance on the r3. But it comes down to ur riding style
How does the R3 handle on the highway going up a hill?
it does pretty well, i have to stay in the low gears to get it going but it has no issues
Not everyone needs 200 horsepower in a motorcycle. It's fast enough to smoke just about any car from stop light to stop light.
Other than that, handling on both bikes is very similiar
i own a ninja 400 too, i think its great for zipping around town and twisty roads but if im gonna do alot of highway riding i take the zx10
hey man question, i have a mt03 and i kinda want a full system. should you get yours tuned after?
I’d recommend the tune because it runs smoother but without it is still fine

lol, this video was posted a week after i got my 2020 R3 Monster Energy MotoGP Edition with 3,000 miles for $5,200. i have 20,000 miles on it now
it has as a bit more power as a 125 while still being 70kg heavier for smaller roads its fine probably but the only sports bike ive owned was a ducati 750 and a mito 125 rest were enduro/supermoto and ive never been on bigger roads with them
A bit more power? From 15 hp to 42 hp is a way more than a bit, that's 180% more power. It's like you're saying an R3 is a bit more powerful than an R6.
@@fj5434 my 125 had 39hp
I'd say give me a used 250... I'll put the thousands I save on it towards the 600 I really want.
Idk which 600 you want, but at least where I live the difference between a 250 and a 600 on the used market is $1000-2000...
Do you wish you upgraded into something bigger than the R3 coming from the Z125? Or did it still feel like a big leap upgrading to 300 from 125?
110 kph is impossible in 1st. You redline 1st gear about 45kph.
Its great for honing your skills
I got a Jordan on my keychain too😂👍🏽
*goes 45mph*

pulling isnt the speed but ok, you probably have a bycycle

Short answer not in the corners yes on the highway
nice downshifts brua

No, you expect too much I owned a 2017 model.
Now I own a 2017 MT03
It's very underpowered. On ramps to the highway, I had to redline the bike in every gear to get up to the flow of traffic to merge (75mph).
It's a great beginner bike and capable of decent speeds.
@@RizwanAnwarAKAFLYTIGER no doubt I had a lot of fun when I had mine, it would be a great track bike too.
I think that 390-400 cc range is perfect for people who want performance at an affordable rate. In India that money gets u a duke 390 which puts out 44 bhp.. which is quite fun to ride tbh. I have such fond memories of the duke 390.
What’s the problem? It’s made to rev.
boy your r3 might get pooped on by a civic watch what you say lol
