- This video is purely based on my opinions. I wanted to try doing something a little bit different so let me know if you guys like it! Lastly, I am still trying to iron out all the kinks with the audio.

Fellow C5Z owners. Make sure to check your valve springs and upgrade to a performance springs because they are and will in time break and will cause you a new motor. This is a known fact and on many vette forums. As preventive maintenance, it should be replaced at the earliest convenience. This information was shared to me by a vette enthusiast and I'm just wanting to share it with you guys. I own a 2002 C5Z myself. Just watching out for our fellow Z owners. This is not to say anything less about our car but it's about protecting ourselves from the inevitable. If you take out the valve covers and it shows the yellow valve springs, those springs definitely needs to be replaced with a higher performance springs .

seriously, I was going to get a widebody C5 Z06 instead of a C6 Z because of the valves...
Sometime in the 2003 production year they changed the springs to the yellow (LS2) springs
2001 Z06: Blue springs (not a lot of known spring problems)
2002 Z06: Blue springs, bigger cam (to make 405hp) = extra lift killed the springs
2003.5 Z06: Yellow springs, 02+ cam (not as many known failures)
2004 Z06: Yellow springs
I'm not sure where, but you can type in your VIN to see what springs you have. I have a 2003 Z06 with yellow springs.

I daily drove a C5 Z06 for 4 years. Put 50k miles on it with zero issues. It got me to me patients every time. Sold it for a GD BMW, huge mistake......... damn, I miss that thing!

I got a bmw 335i, got a 350z as a spare when the bmw breaks.. Now considering adding a C5 to the roster 😜😜😜

Daily driven Z06 was awesome except for clutch foot cramps from rush hour(s) traffic. LOVE getting out of a shitty day of work and driving my dream car.

Agree. Still love driving my C5 after all these years. Especially on long drives out of state, it is so comfortable and smooth to drive.

you forgot blinding lights in your eyes cause the car is so low to the ground.
The rubber that scrapes is on a hinge and made to be deflected. It's part of the aero.
It also brings air into the intake and radiator
I have a 2002 Electron Blue Corvette, not a Z06 but good enough for me right now. Living in South Florida i can drive it all year.
Decent vid for new C5 owners, if they haven't experienced a 'vette yet, in general. Have an '00 now for about 8 years. Long tubes, B&B PRT, intake, CAI, Hurst shifter. Love it, but must store for a few months until this upper midwest weather settles for the spring.
Thanks for video. I am also an owner of a C5 2002 Magnetic Red II Corvette. I purchased mine new when I was 32 years old. I still enjoy it but I got the automatic which was a condition my wife required. Fast forward 18 years and I purchased a 2004 C5 Comemorative Z06 for my son who will be turning 18 this August 2020. I told him how fun it would be to drive a manual. He started to learn to drive stick when I gave him my Dad's Honda Accord 5 speed. He now is asking me for a Z06 C5. I decided to buy one from a local owner who tracked this Z06 Comemorative at Laguna Seca. Beautiful car indeed. My son is upstairs and has no idea that in the single garage beneath his bedroom is parked his dream car. Perhaps when he goes to bed he will dream of driving it. So why did I buy it for him. Last Friday, he informed me that he won the Airforce scholarship which is given to 200 high school students in ROTC nation wide. It is a $22,000 scholarship which allows him to pick from several universities to train 8 weeks flying and aircraft. Purdue, Indiana University, Bowling Green State University, Kansas State University and University of California Riverside are among his choices. So instead of me buying my dream Cadillac CT6 Platinum with Super Cruise, my wife and I felt we needed to reward my son for a great accomplishment. Here are some of my happy memories of him.

A couple comments...
Drone... yours isn't bad. Trust me. Crank that thing up to 800+ HP like mine, and you'll get drone...
Blind spots... if you have blind spots, your mirrors are not actually adjusted properly. The old "adjust it so you can barely see your fender" method is flat out wrong. Use your google-fu to check out no blind spot mirror adjustment.
Cup holders... Nothing without a screw on cap is allowed in my Vette. And a bottled drink fits perfectly between my right hip and the center console.
Nice video man...I picked up my 2004 z06 manual with 120.000 miles for 13,500 ..only problem was climate control dim light an electrical fuse box had short so battery would die with in 2-3 days but had problems fix....not my daily .....fun car

I drive 03 Z06 daily too, as long as it isn't snowing/freezing (I live in Scandinavia). You're absolutely right about other motorists not seeing you when you're in the Z06, particularly on the highway. Daytime, I always drive with the DRLs on, except for on highways, where I always pop the headlights, just to make sure other drivers see me

Btw your z is looking good. Blue with black wheels is an awesome color combo. There is just so many things to love about the c5z, You can't go wrong with any C5. Before the c5z, I was looking at the C5 FRC, it's basically the body style of the c5z, except with less HP.
Ya I think the FRC is really hard to beat when it comes to style and performance
Daily driver is a 2004 Z06 bought used long ago with 35kmiles on it.It currently has over 200k miles and a roller lifter failed scoring camshaft so into the shop for an overhaul of the 405hp ls6.Upon teardown-no ridge found in any cylinder and all bores miked out within specs for stock-no rebore needed.Likewise the crank mikes out to std dimensions so no grind needed.Have torn down and rebuilt more than a few engines and am amazed at the condition after 200,000 miles.Cam will be replaced because of damage and all 16 lifters too...avalve job and overhaul complete.These c5's are a great deal for your money.:)

Careful scraping that air dam. The mounts can and will break. Had to replace mine a few months back, little over a hundred bucks for the part, and not too bad to replace if you can jack the car up
Dan Giaimo my air damn is currently gone.. 😧 no overheating issues but my air pump was damaged as well

Put Corsa exhaust on it, no drone at any speed - Great V8 song one you mash the go fast peddle.

Planning on buying one myself and dailying it as well. Been doing home renovations so funds are tight, but when that's over I will be looking to get a C5Z. Dig the blue too. Probably my favorite color.
btw the front air dam is spring loaded and made to take a beating, as terrible as the sound is it wont ruin it
I love daily driving my 99 C5 Targa Top once Spring hits! I get between 21 & 24 mpg city and 29 - 32 mpg highway no major mods on my engine just k&n air filters & keeping it sparkling clean.
I agree about the blind spots and cup holder. I also daily my c5z with conservative driving when going to work and a mix of spirited driving I see a real word 20mpg. These cars are easy to drive, with a light clutch, I don't see why more people don't daily them. I take care of mine but some people are just OCD about it. its a car made of aluminum plastic rain isn't that big of a deal and its not like GMs paint is something they deserve a reward for anyway lol, good video keep it up

@Brax_beezy every time I drive mine, I have to go WOT at least a few times. Easy to smile with 604/550 rear hp/tq. Lol.
I daily my C5 as well. Its a great car for long trips, as well as short rides in the town. My favorite part is the suspension, its stiff when it needs to be, but it handles potholes pretty well..

Try putting it on your drink on your hip next to the center. The seatbelt really holds it in place without being uncomfortable... unless you hit a corner too hard a fountain drink will pop the lid. Trust me I'm 5'11 200lbs it works

Are C5 reliable? And how expensive are the repairs?
The ls1 is yes but they are old cars with a lot of electrics and parts and repairs can be high.
Its not a low production hand made car as far as parts go but it isnt a toyota corolla. Vette tax unless universal parts.
They are very reliable, the ls engines no matter the size are great. Cheap to repair as well, can't go wrong with any chevt with an ls with a manual.
Very Reliable!!! I love my C5 and not like repairing a Mercedes or Ferrari or Porche!
I feel you on other people not seeing you, I have a 04 and a lady hit me head on while I was at a stop sign.
I spent the last year and a half driving my 1999 C5 coup 6 days a week too and from work, in England. this is not a left hand drive country. Only had 2 issues. getting into car parks that require me to take a ticket and pot holes. UK is very bad for sunken drains and pot holes and uneven road surfaces.
get some ... blind spot/wedge mirrors ... to put on each side mirror .. I put them on every car I own and don't drive without them ... u can see everything that's right next to you and they have wedge mirrors that look good too. Once you use them you will never go without them again.
Ok, all things that yes could be annoying, but these are all very very minor, try driving my supercharged Tacoma with 35” Goodyear MTR’s and trial duals with Flowmaster 40’s, anyway my point is every vehicle has some things that may annoy us every now and then but the driving experience is well worth it all!! Just get out there and enjoy!

Drone sucks. I've been in several Corvettes with lots of types of exhaust systems. Mine had ARH 1"3/4 long tubes with hf cats installed back in 2010 right before the blower went on. To me, it's perfect. Loud enough at WOT, very nice at cruising speeds. Try putting the Ti system back on. You'll like it.
The front spoiler does scrape no matter what height the car sits. Mine was lowered all the way down on stock bolts. I hated it. Speed bumps were challenging. It scraped horribly.
I agree with You on wheel well opening to tire gap. It's a bit wide. Also, blind spots suck.
I live in CT. Even in winter months, as long as the roads are clear and dry? I drive it.

Get your self a good resonator man, it will get rid of the drone but still be good upwards of 3.5k rpm.
Atanas Tripzter how much do a muffler shop would charge to install one?
The muffler shop would charge about 120 bucks to weld them in. If you go to one of those mexican exhaust shops probably around 50-60. Now the main cost would be buying the resonators. Get 2 online from summitracing and have them weld them in.

Thats what i meant. the labor is about 120 bucks. they have to cut the original pipe and weld the 2 resonators in. You have to buy the resonators separately as most exhaust shops dont carry high performance stuff. I doubt you want 2" resonators in your z06.
Well i guess they could pre order them but you'll have to talk with the shop. Should be about 50 bucks per resonator though.

No targa top is sad but after owning both I have to say the z06 is significantly better than a base. Braking, handling, everything. It’s a very big difference speed too, like I think a full second faster to 60 than the base

Question, How do I know if previous owner did the engine work on my 2002 z06
Just got the car and is my weekend drive every time I drive it a light pops on the dashboard I’m getting a little irritated but I’m thinking it’s a 20 year old car, does your 2003 does the same?
You could try pulling the valve covers to see if there are still stock valve springs. Chances are if the car has been worked on, that's the first thing that would have been changed.
Holy crap, you mileage is better than my Miata. I get about 22mpg.
Kyrinky Start driving with the top in place, it saves 3mpg. My stock NB gave me 28 avg. mpg.
That is crazy good. However, about 99% of the time I never drop the top. I own an NB as well.

It's called a trunk partition. Previous owner put it in and I think they just stuck a emblem on it

Nope, partition comes with the crossed flags. love mine, take it out for track days, so I can hear the exhaust better.

Well I think I'm going to get a Z06 C5 DD now.. How would you rate the death factor driving in rain and hydroplaning @ freeway speeds? I've daily driven a v8 stang in tons of shit weather so I think I know what to expect XD

if you just put one of those bicycle orange flags on your car that sticks up like 8 feet then cars will see you coming down the road.

My wife says that she can see that it is me in my melium yellow 03 Z06 coming up the road from about a mile away, on the straight level road here where I live, Happy motoring everyone...

Out of all the sports cars and sedans I’ve owned, my Vette rode the best, even though it had the hardest suspension option. Better than my 4Runner honestly.
I found a 1997 C5 Corvette with 38,000 miles automatic for just about $14,000 is this a good deal or does this sound fishy what should I look for before possibly purchasing

I haven’t found it useless. Fits a medium Dunkin Donuts iced coffee just fine. 😬 I did buy aftermarket cup holder for passenger tho
